Customer beware. Maybe I caught the technician on a bad day, but regardless, when questioning him about the vehicle milage during a follow-up inspection, he had inaccurately represented the milage. Then when questioned, he responded defensively. The Md Auto Safety Enforcement Division suggested that most vendors, when required to conduct a follow-up inspection due to milage, offer a discounted rate to their customers; not Spectra. This was my first dealings with Mr. Pheobus and Spectra. What a dissapointment. read more

I have a 2012 Fiat 500 and kept getting the battery drained. These folks went over and above, making all kinds of effort to figure it out, testing module after module until they located the extremely unusual problem. They researched solutions online and found something that was practical and reasonably priced. I'm very grateful for their attention to detail. I'm just a customer, not a fan, not a relative, not an employee. I took my VW in because there was smoke coming from the motor - pretty sure that this was cam seals, but wanted to make sure. Nothing major because I wasn't losing much oil but, the smoke was annoying. They took a look and said it was seeping oil everywhere and for a little over $1100 they could take care of it. I asked them to double check the steering and brakes because this was alot of money. Money that may be better spent on the down payment for a new car. Dave said he would have his "best guy" take it for a ride and take a look. The report was that everything was fine. I pay the $1100+ for this smoke problem and we are good to go. I love this car. It has leather, it is all-wheel drive, a V6, it has low miles - I say go for it. I pick it up, pay them $1000 + dollars take it home and notice two things right away. First, the engine is stil smoking and; second, the blue VW emblem is missing from my engine - no big deal they just lost it in the shop. Nope, they act like I'm scamming them for the emblem and regarding the smoke: "Darius, the engine is leaking from the back, we didn't notice this at first because of all the other leaks, unfortunately, we cannot fix this leak it requires special VW tools - I suggest you take it to the VW dealer." Likely another $2000. No kidding. I'm thinking I should have gone to VW $1000 ago. They are like, oops we missed it - sorry about the fact that your engine smokes just as much as before you paid us $1000. After making me run two more trips back to the shop while making me feel like a criminal, they give me the $5 VW emblem and then make me install it myself. You decide. Am I a just a disgruntled customer or are these folks pros at doing the easy jobs for max money and passing the hard stuff along after taking your easy money. I know - do you? Check my other reviews, ones that go back years. This isn't like getting a bad meal or slack service at dinner this is $1000s of dollars. read more

This is the only place I really trust with my foreign car. They always do excellent work. My car is a bit finicky, so I'm over there a good amount. They are always super honest. Recently I thought something was really wrong and instead it was something pretty minor, they called me to tell me it was nearly nothing and charged me $30 for the work. The work can be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for and my car has expensive parts. Is rather pay for good work than be cheap and have constant problems. Took my vehicle in for the state inspection and the gave me a list of stuff that needed fixed. I fixed all but the emergency brake. Less than a year later I find out that the lug nuts were on there so tight that one lug broke off and another lug nut was rounded off so you could not get it off. I called about it and they would not guarantee the work because it had been almost a year and other things could have happened. Took the vehicle to a different shop and when the got the tire off they found the the emergency break that was supposed to be fixed wasn't fixed properly. I will never take another vehicle to Spectra nor will I recommend them to anyone. read more

Not the most convenient for us since we live near Middletown- but worth the trip. They have caught things we didn't mention, (yes, we were testing them!). They have also told us things didn't need to be done as far as maintenance such as changing fluids when they were still clean. Could have done it anyways and made a few more bucks off of us. read more
