Sunday night, my car wouldn't start. I had it towed to superior on Sunday night and it was there for them first thing Monday morning. Superior noted on the invoice that the car was dead on arrival. Said they tested the battery and that they were able to start the vehicle with starting fluid after multiple attempts. Well, to me that means there were something wrong with the car battery. They got the car running and charged me $155. They kept the car all day, over seven hours to do the safety maintenance inspection that I didn't ask for. They didn't ask me either. Two days later, the car would not start again. I called superior to let them know and they said that the battery was OK when it was there. The battery was dead in their own words when they checked it. I don't understand why they didn't replace the battery. I was unable to go to work on my new job on Wednesday, I would think that an auto service center would recognize when a battery needs replaced.. I am homeless and sleeping in my car. I have no money to get it towed. Fortunately, somebody helped me in the Walmart parking lot to get the car running so I can drive it to a Walmart service center. If that kind person did not help me, I would've been stuck there. I would not have been able to go to work. I wouldn't had a place to sleep. Anyway, I think they should've changed the battery on Monday when the car was in their shop. I think they should've recognized that since it was dead on Sunday and Monday and it was a really old battery, they should have replaced it. Since they didn't, it was a big hassle for me not going back to Superior auto service again. It said on the invoice that they recommended that I monitor it. That is ridiculous. I'm supposed to just drive the car around and hope that it starts when I get back in. I would have to have an expense of it being towed. Shouldn't they fix the car so you don't get stranded somewhere ? Walmart charged me $150 for the battery and instillation. Superior charged me $155 and didn't fix the car. They just gave me a list of $2000 worth of stuff that needed to be Repaired. read more

Tried to charge us $1200 for a $600 job. We ended up leaving and taking our car to an honest and trustworthy mechanic. We were told that it would not cost anything for them to look at it, then charged us almost $200 without our permission for the exact diagnostic we came with that we already paid a dealership $100 to complete. They changed their story multiple times. We wasted our time and money coming here. Will not be coming back due to their dishonesty and lack of transparency. read more

My car needed a brake job to solved a persistent noise problem After my Inspection Report showed my car needed both discs and pads ( and I saw the damage on the lift ) was the source of this problem. Dave Taggert and his team of seasoned professionals are knowledgeable and they care about doing things right the first time. My 2002 Chrysler Sebring LX simply died while idling at a red light. It was made further awkward because I'm deaf, making it difficult to communicate or obtain assistance. I had to walk through traffic to a nearby gas station, then I asked them to call the police as I needed help getting the car out of traffic. Soon, the police came, and they helped to push the car out of the way to the gas station. If I could leave a review for the police, I would! Once the car was out of the way, they called for a tow -- Mark's Equipment company, I think it was the name. In any case, they recommended Superior Auto services, and said they were honest, had good prices, definitely worth using. The tow driver called them on my behalf to confirm they were able and willing to look at my car. They confirmed. My car then was towed to Superior Auto. They didn't waste any time at all. A guy there named Jim Gray (assistant service manager) immediately got started on my car. He asked what happened. I explained to him that my car was in pretty bad shape, that I wanted to know if it was worth fixing. He then said he'd take a look at the car TODAY. I was surprised, as many mechanics usually wait a few days before even taking a look at a car. He was extremely friendly and courteous. He offered a shuttle home so I could wait at home while they checked out the car. There was no charge for the shuttle. Simply amazing. I of course accepted. They took me home. The shuttle driver was very friendly, and was a remarkably smooth driver; I suspect I could learn a few driving tips from him. A few hours later, Jim sent me a text (due to my being deaf) and told me they had it up and running. They sent the shuttle to pick me up. As soon as I got there, Jim came out of the garage immediately and provided me with a detailed report of the issues my car had. It turns out it was due to a blown ignition fuse that my car failed to restart after it stalled. Jim informed me that my car was leaking transmission, oil, and coolant. Furthermore, he informed me that the leaks were major, that it had gotten on the belts, and so on. Pretty bad. Total estimated cost of repairs: $2,400. Of course, I winced, but I wasn't surprised. I knew my car was pretty bad off. Jim told me that while he would love to do the sale, he couldn't recommend fixing the car, that the cost to fix the car exceeded the value of the car. I found this admirable-- this guy could be milking me for all I was worth, and here was he telling me it wasn't worth pouring money into. The total cost for diagnosis, inspection, and replacement of the fuse was $104. We came to an arrangement for the bill. I walked out and drove off in my car in amazement. This was the first time in my life I met a honest, ethical mechanic who actually gave a damn. I plan on using Superior Auto permanently. They won a loyal customer out of me. I plan on recommending them to everyone I know. In fact, they come with my highest recommendations. If they ever in the future tell me something is wrong and that it's pricey but worth fixing, I'm trusting them. They definitely have earned my trust today. I've already said this, but once again, they come with my highest recommendations. If you're in need for auto repairs, they're the people to go to! You actually can trust them. I turned up on their stoop first thing in the morning with a mystery problem, and after driving me to work, they managed to diagnose the car and make multiple repairs in time for me to pick up my vehicle at the end of the day. They promptly called me once they knew what was going on, and I feel like they gave me honest input on what was most critical to fix on a vehicle that is 16 years old. I had a rattle in my 2012 Elantra. I thought it was my brakes and I tried to figure it out myself but gave up on that. I chose superior auto purely because of the yelp reviews. I fully understand why all 6 reviews are 5 stars. The prices were extremely affordable, they fixed the problem in half a day, fixed the mistake I did by breaking a screw in my brake caliper, and provided a shuttle service which is really a huge plus as everyone in the world has had the problem of finding a ride to and from when getting car work done. These guys are ridiculously nice and knowledgable. Felt almost like a 1960s barber shop old school feel. Genuinely nice people. I'll be back every time from now on. Great job by the staff. read more

I took my Mazda CX-5 in for diagnostics for the first time at Superior. I recently moved to the Frederick area and needed a place closer than my usual auto shop in Gaithersburg, MD. My car was making a noise and I suspected a wheel bearing needed replaced. Superior said my front and rear wheel bearings need replaced as well as my rear brakes, engine air filter and an oil change. All for a whopping $1400. Picked up my car to take it to my usual auto shop that I trust. When picking up my car, I was asked if the shop I was taking it to was "astronomically beating their prices". Took my car to my auto shop and was told my car was misdiagnosed. I only needed the front wheel bearing replaced and right brake, all for only $630. Little did Superior know I had my oil changed a week ago so for them to say I needed an oil change was a blatant lie to get money. I would never bring my car back here and do not recommend it to anyone. All they care about is making more money, not actually fixing your car for what is wrong with it. read more

Although I continue to have an oil and water type response to one of the customer servicemen, I continue to use them because the management listens to my concerns, explains things in a clear, non-condescending way, and goes out of their way to personally help me in any way I need, like financing a large part of the bill. (I live on a fixed retirement income, and my vehicle is 15 years old, so it has big jobs come up at least once a year, and I have little in savings.) And although I find the current hourly labor rate for auto mechanics to be absurdly high (as someone who has a science Master's degree I never came near to making that kind of money, or even half of it), and even if they are 'competitive' within the Frederick area, they are high for the area I live in), that is certainly not just specific to Superior, and they have a great customer rebate card that helps considerably. They also seem to be slow in the order they get to your vehicle even just to diagnose the problem, even if you have an appointment, and when they are busy, can be a little pushy to leave your car even if that is not a good option for you (they act genuinely surprised when you want to wait.) Bottom line, however, they do quality repair work, I never get the feeling that they are padding the bill by finding things that need repair when they don't (like a dealership will do), and have the best guarantee I've ever seen. And again, the owner and his son the manager are really great people to deal with. read more

I called for a quote on replacing front brake rotors/pads, antifreeze change, oil change. All together parts from autozone would cost between $200-250, but they probably buy them at the price autozone gets them at though, so they make that profit too. They quoted me at $840 for what shouldn't be more than 2 hours of work. So we're talking $300 (minimum) per hour for labor!? Does it come with a hooker? Needless to say I can't review the service because I'm not paying these outrageous prices. read more

This is the best auto service and repair center in the greater Frederick area. Dave (Owner), Jim (Service Manager), and Dave (the other Dave) are fantastic. Their technicians are second to none and the customer service is phenomenal. Where could you find another shop where the owner and his team will give you a ride while your car is being serviced? Nowhere. Yes, sometimes car repair is expensive. That is just a reality of life. Yes, sometimes they need all hands on deck, so you may have to wait for an update. However, their work is of the highest quality, they stand behind anything they do, and their prices are more than reasonable. Here's your five stars, Superior Auto Service. We called Superior Auto Service Center because the car was over heating and I could see the car leaking antifreeze. They told me I could bring the car right away. When I arrived the place was empty. I tried to explain to the guy what is wrong and where I saw the leak. He told me not worry about it because they are experts at fixing cars. After 45 min he came back and told me they need to replace the thermostat housing and it will cost at least $500 to replace it with the labor. I told him to give me a second. I looked online and the part was $70. I could not believe it will cost over $400 in labor so I refused the service and he charged me $25 for the diagnosis. I did some research and found a different mechanic. They took the car the next day. After a few hours they called and said one of the hose clamps was rusted and another was broken. They replaced them and only charged $67. No leaks or overheating since. The Superior Auto Service Center personnel was either not that expert or they tried to clip me for at least $500 for nothing. read more

Took my car here for a State inspection. I made the appointment multiple days in advance, yet on the day of the appointment, they didn't have anyone available to inspect my car, so they brought it to another shop. Then, they told me they would not pass the inspection unless I paid them extra to "fix" a "problem" that I knew was non-existent, because I had just been working on the car myself. It would seem they were trying to find a way to still make money, despite having to bring it to another shop. I went to this place because of the positive reviews on this website and regret it. I'm not sure how many cousins and friends wrote good reviews for this place but here is my honest review. I took my car for inspection and he came up with a list of things like cracked exhaust manifold (something that you can not check by yourself) and brakes job...he wanted $750 for manifold and $700 for rear brake job. Considering time I couldn't replace exhaust manifold but the brake job with decent parts (Roter + brake pad) cost me $95 and took me less than 2 hours to changed it in my garage and I'm not even a mechanic. He was trying to get $600+ for labor??? that's far from fair. Long story short, after all when I got the inspection and took the car home it sounded like a tractor with loud nose (which it wasn't making before)...when I checked, they had touched the muffler exhaust and they broke one of the screws from the middle pipe. I didn't even bother to call them back (sometimes its priceless if you can save your stress) and got the exhaust fixing tape and its fixed for now. The issue with them is they try to talk so nicely to make it seem like whatever they are doing its according to law, and you as a customer you just get ripped off nicely. He said the manifold fix was for my safety but the fact that he damaged my exhaust that caused fumes entering in my car I guess wasn't important. My experience is they are far from being honest although they try to pretend that they are being honest and nice. read more

I picked this location based on reviews. I wanted my tires installed without any paint removed from the wheels - 2010 GT 500 Shelby. They assured me they could. Picked the car up and it looked okay...they had it backed in which was somewhat unusual. Went into a parking lot to do a thorough inspection and saw white glaze on my back bumper. Sure enough - they had gouged the bumper on something and removed the paint- white glaze looks like a rubbing compound or something that had dried on it. So they rubbed the car against something and left a one inch by 1/4 inch black spot on the rubber bumper where the paint was. It was not coming out - paint was physically removed from the bumper!!! Really pisses me off after making an issue of not scratching the rims. So NO...I don't recommend them - all they had to do was put on tires and now have scratched bumper with a black spot in the blue paint...thanks! I will not be back. read more
