I want to share my recent experience with Specs at One Paseo to help other customers make an informed decision. The first thing I noticed right away was that I had been overcharged on sales tax, which the staff corrected when I pointed it out--but I really shouldn't have to double‑check something so basic. I purchased a pair of Vuarnet sunglasses here for $324 after the staff told me they were polarized. When I wore them in my husband's car with UV‑tinted windows, I noticed they didn't show the usual rainbow pattern that polarized lenses create. After double‑checking (including testing against another pair of polarized lenses), it became clear these were not polarized. I returned to the store to give them a chance to make it right. Here's what happened: * The staff admitted the sunglasses were not polarized. * They refused a refund because I was "past 7 days." * They offered to swap my Vuarnet glass lenses for plastic polarized lenses, or charge me another $50 for the correct Vuarnet lenses. * They asked to keep my sunglasses to show the owner, saying the owner would contact me. The next day, instead of the owner reaching out, a staff member contacted me with the "resolutions" the owner had decided on. Given the seriousness of selling me sunglasses under false pretenses--whether it was a mistake or not--I felt this was poor customer service. They had the opportunity to make things right twice, and chose not to. I left this process with no sunglasses and no refund, and the staff I dealt with were unapologetic and unhelpful. If you plan to shop here, I strongly recommend double‑checking everything they tell you about the products and watching your receipt carefully. Personally, I will not shop here again. read more

Went to specs with a case of dry eye. Specs advertises a specialty in treating dry eye. The front desk attendant was professional and efficient and I was seen on time. She also efficiently pulled up my insurance information. I filled out some forms and was taken for my insurance examination roughly on time. They have a nice online appointment system. Dr. Fitzgerald was fantastic. She has great 'bedside' manner and after an examination discussed her findings as well as the possible treatments which ranged from homeopathic to somewhat expensive treatments. She outlined the cost and benefit of each procedure and didn't try to oversell. I chose an in office procedure that she performed professionally and expeditiously. Nice personality as well. I will certainly be returning for all of my optometry needs. Highest recommendation! read more

I have purchased multiple pairs of glasses from this Specs Optometry location and have always been treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. This location carries an extensive variety of eyewear including Jacque Marie Mage which is my brand of choice. Jordan Edwards is the optician I specifically request each time and his knowledge is extensive. This person has a genuine interest in helping people and it shows. During a previous visit, I was interested in a particular JMM frame but was advised against it since it was too small for my face. Jordan could have just made a sale but he didn't. Instead, he spent time with me going over different options which ultimately led to me choosing the correct frame. These people actually have your best interest in mind and it is the reason I continue to use Specs Optometry for my eyewear needs. The Doctors are also very kind and pleasant. I started as a patient a couple years ago under the care of Dr. Michelle Fitzpatrick. She is hands-down, the best optometrist I've ever encountered. these exams are thorough and she takes her time with making sure that the prescriptions from my contact lens are accurate. In addition educating me on health requirements and tests that would be beneficial. I am extremely impressed and will continue to be confident on her professional and well educated service. Specs caught my eye when I was perusing South Park a while back, and I'm so glad they opened up a closer location in Del Mar at the One Paseo plaza. The quality and local/hipster-ish vibes drew me in, and the exceptional service and knowledge definitely have me hooked. Dr. Fitzpatrick was so warm and thorough, and she made sure to explain the purpose behind every step of the process. Both her and Jon were so patient with helping me pick out my new frames, and I absolutely love them! They're efficient, advanced and clean, and the aesthetic is super chic. I am so frustrated with the results from this place. This review is a looong time coming -- actually it was late last year that I used their service, which is not cheap. It's quite expensive in fact. First round of problems: my glasses took longer than quoted. Their response: well, that's just an estimate. Fine. But when I got my glasses, they were wrong. All they had to do was use a prescription from another ophthalmologist. Literally. It's a second pair that I bought for the look/style so I know the prescription is right based on the first functional pair. Anyway, they fixed it (well, kind of -- more on that below) but that meant more wait time for me. I got it and the prescription was "okay" enough for me to just take it for what it is. I'm so tight on time I don't have the luxury of waiting 3 weeks dropping more than 3 times for a pair of glasses that I spent over $500 for. Now I've been frustrated for almost a year trying to accommodate this less than optimal prescription. And every time I try to wear the glasses I bought for style I can barely keep them on through a meeting because they didn't fill the prescription right. I feel like I wasted so much time and money and it's not fair to me as a customer. read more

Such a wonderful place for glasses lovers! I was looking for some new glasses as a Christmas gift for the bf as his were literally awful. Jon and Lee helped me out so much with all of their knowledge! Jon was helpful in educating me about the various styles and how well they work with some faces rather than others. He helped me pick out the perfect pair of glasses and sunglasses and surprise surprise my bf loved them so much! Jon and Lee make the process as easy and painless as possible. Leftover FSA money has been tough to spend, but at Specs I was able to call and get a contact order in without having to have an eye exam. Normally they wouldn't allow this, but Covid times call for covid measures. Always friendly and professional here. Really appreciate that they're being considerate and flexible given all that's going on. read more

I had been experiencing persistent blurry vision in my right eye and was extremely worried upon my visit to Specs. Dr. Bajpai guided me through several tests and was able to diagnose an emerging cataract and offer immediate next steps for treatment. You can start over there for small frames and go though all the drawers." I initially thought I had a good experience here. I really liked the staff and the doctor. I ordered contacts and glasses after my eye exam. They spent time with me picking out frames that looked best on me and I was extremely happy with my glasses. My contacts, however, were another story. I was given a pair of trial contacts. I mentioned that my vision was a little blurry and the assistant told me that they were a different brand than what was ordered and my new contacts would be clearer. Cut to me picking up my contacts order and getting home and realizing that my vision was blurrier than before. I called and they said I couldn't return the contacts because I opened them. I told them that I couldn't use them because I couldn't see so I'd have to get rid of them. They asked me if the doctor asked for my previous prescription and I said no. I compared the prescriptions and my new contacts were not as strong as my old prescription. They said that my old prescription was higher than they like to order so they would go up a half step and only replace the unopened boxes. I agreed and they said they placed the order (they didn't). They never replaced my contacts and didn't update my prescription so it was unusable for me to order from an online contacts company. Strangely my glasses seem to be the perfect strength for my vision. I was really disappointed that things turned out this way because I was excited to be supporting a woman owned and run business. They really dropped the ball in the end even though my visit here was initially a great one. read more

My favourite optometrist! It is just happened that due to unfortunate events I had to get a new pair of glasses and was so excited to find this local optometrist! Everything from the service to frames was supper ! I got one pair of beautiful sun glasses and later got a new pair of prescription glasses which a both stylish and very unique ! Now that I am no longer driving downtown for work, I decided to find an eye doctor closer to home. After reading the reviews for Specs Optometry, I decided to swing by and check them out. I loved the clean, modern shop and cool selection of glasses. I asked to make an appointment and was given one for the very next day (a Saturday!). My exam was terrific. The doctor was very personable and indulged my inner science geek with plenty of detailed answers to my questions. I was shocked when she said that my prescription hadn't changed enough to warrant new glasses. She could have pushed me into new glasses, but didn't. She even helped me to understand my insurance plan so that I can maximize it for when I do want new frames or maybe prescription sunglasses. I am very happy with my new eye doctor! read more

Today I got my eyes checked by Dr. Fitz Patrick. But I got a lot more than a simple eye exam. Today, I truly understood how a medical professional can be fully present before a patient,Slowly and methodically explaining images of my eyes with all the latest technology, walking me through the process of so many new ways to understand my vision. Dr. Fitz Patrick took her time, as I could tell she truly loves what she does. She's a healer which goes way beyond an optometrist. This is my second appointment with her, the first time in her little Italy office about a year ago. She's got a great staff, very attentive to all their patients needs as I could see lots of smiles in the office. Super cool Optometry shop. I like that they carry frame lines that are independent, nothing like Warby Parker or LensCrafters. They have a cool line called Jacque Marie Mage. That's my wish list pair. Everyone is super chill, they explain things to you and you don't feel pushed. Very disappointed in Specs Optometry now after giving it a 5-star review on my first visit there. This time was very different. I walked into this very small store and noticed there were 6 people in the store. None were wearing a mask even though there is a California mandate stating that businesses must adhere to the mask mandate. I asked the girl who was fitting me why they were not adhering to the mask mandate. She told me the owner has made it optional. Optional? Very surprised a doctor-owned business would make mask-wearing optional. She did tell me she could put on a mask if I wanted her to. How about just doing the right thing in the first place. The other employee gave a big eye roll towards me and walked away. The reason I am so upset about this is because one I was with my daughter who has not had a booster and two I am on active chemotherapy for cancer. After seeing how angry I was both employees put on masks, but by then I was already leaving. They didn't say anything to the customers who also didn't have masks. I am livid right now and would love a call from the owner explaining her optional mask-wearing rule. I am also making a complaint to the board of optometry for gross negligence for failing to act to protect patients. read more

All Specs locations are beautiful and have a great staff but this is by far the nicest optometrist office I have been to in my life. The decor is so cute, and Dr. Michelle has such advanced equipment that the process is faster and easier than any other appointment I've had. They don't carry Moscot here so she brought a selection from her other office in anticipation of my appointment, and I ended up picking a frame that she brought over. I would recommend all their offices but if you can make it to Del Mar, it's worth the trip. read more

I was in the market for new glasses and my coworker showed me the Specs Instagram page and I decided to check out the office. The staff is super friendly and makes you feel comfortable during the entire appt. Dr. Fitzpatrick was very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining everything going on during the eye exam. Corey (hope I'm spelling it right) was accommodating in helping me choose frames, they have a huge selection with a lot of nice brands as well. The office is in a prime location with lots of food and retailers nearby as well if you want to make a day out of your visit. I used to go to Specs in Little Italy, but their new location at One Paseo in Del Mar is a lot more convenient. Dr. Fitzpatrick is the best because she makes things comfortable and relaxed so you have a solid eye exam. They have the best service and helpful staff that aren't awkward or pushy. They make great suggestions with frames and are honest with how they look on you. They helped me find great looking frames from a wide selection of designers that you don't see at other optometry offices. Their shop and overall vibe fit in at One Paseo. I was on my way to SD for a quick getaway and noticed my contacts ripped in my eye.. of course, I didnt bring an extra pair AND didnt have an updated eye prescription to purchase new contacts, i felt mad and helpless knowing I would go through the weekend with blurry vision.. luckily I was able to make a new patient appointment at short notice, which is unlikely to do so being that sometimes new patient appointment book out at least days or a week in advance, this office was able to accommodate me!! I was so thrilled! Once arriving in office, the staff was soo welcoming! So easy to talk to.. made my visit VERY PLEASANT. Jonathan was very helpful and very friendly.. also gave us tips on local places to eat at, in which we appreciated very much.. also LOVED the Dr.. she was super sweet and very in tune with what I needed to do and get done. She made the process so easy and so fun. Usually other Drs make it so serious and boring.. but she made it quick and easy and enjoyable.. I LOVED EVERY MIN being in this office.. noticed there wasnt very much reviews for this office.. but if I could give more than 5 stars I would.. if i was a local, I would def have made this office my primary office for my Optical needs. read more
