Trust the negative reviews and stay away from this incompetent company/owner who also LIES. He called me and stated he was at my home looking at the problem I was home and he was not at my home, HE LIED. Second, he said he looked at the problem and provided me with the issue which also was wrong and a Lie........stay away! There needs to be negative reviews for this business. read more

Is this business operating? We have been calling for several days but unable to get thru to anyone and the voicemail is full. When I went to store, they had a sign to call the number we have been calling. read more

I hired these guys based on the good reviews (before the other bad one had been written.) Guy named Matt came out to do four small jobs; among them, to fix one lock that was misaligned, and put one doorknob back on a door. A month later, lock was misaligned again and the doorknob had fallen off again. (I'm not surprised; Matt showed up with a toolkit that looked like it had been dumped out and then shoveled full again. He would find a screw that was "close" and told me, "It's not a perfect fit but I can force it.") Called after the failures so that they could come back and fix their work. This took at least 5 phone calls (perhaps more; I lost track). Most of the time I spoke to Tony, who was instantly defensive and would put me off by saying things like, "Well, I don't know what the problem is. I'd have to take a look. We have 70,000 products [something he repeats like a mantra--irrelevent because we did not buy any of their products, we hired a locksmith to repair existing hardware.] I can come out and take a look and see where we go from there." I kept repeating that all I wanted was for a locksmith to come out and repair the two things that had not been properly repaired the first time. FINALLY, I pinned Tony down to a time to come out. He showed up (a half hour late, but whatever)--with no toolkit. I asked where his toolkit was, and he said, "I told you, I'm an estimator, I have to look." I pointed out that this was the SECOND day off from work I had taken to deal with this (first repair, and now "estimation"), and now he expected me to take a third off so that an actual repair guy could come out? He left in a huff. Wow. I've never met a small business run so unprofessionally. (Small, unrelated tidbit: if they do work for you, and you need to ask them about it later, you better remember the exact date they came out. Because they organize their files by date. That's right, not by client name, not by address, not by telephone number. By date. I would hate to be their auditor.) Run, do not walk, from these guys. UPDATE: Just reread the reviews; mine is actually the SECOND bad review they received this month, but it looks like the other one has been removed (which I saw last week; it had been posted in the middle of this month). Guess Southport Locksmith waits until you complain on yelp to make good on their work. Again, caveat emptor.) SECOND UPDATE: See my very positive review of the locksmith (Bob Williams Locksmith) we hired to clean up after Southport's failure. Short version: "Bob came out when he said he would. Better yet, he fixed the locks that Southport couldn't (even though Southport charged--no lie--THREE TIMES AS MUCH, took twice as long, and refused to stand behind). Bob quickly showed me the problem (a screw on the inside of the deadbolt that the other locksmith didn't even look at, that was clearly loose). It now works like the day it was installed. He quickly fixed the other problem, too (a doorknob that had fallen off, that Southport "fixed" and which promptly fell off again), in a way that "felt" solid." read more

I needed all of my keys copied so I asked around and was told to check this place out. They were very nice, quick, and inexpensive. However, since I needed all of my apartment keys copied, this included the main key to get into the building. That refused to make a copy of this key because it was a "medical" key (whatever that means) and needed special permission. I found it odd they would not make me a copy as I had to get one copied not a week ago at another locksmith, and it was fine. Plus, they told me they didn't have any in stock, so they'd have to order it. I went to local, reputable locksmith and had it copied without question in under 10 mins. I checked with my rental company and they had never heard of people having issues with this nor had they heard of any permissions needed. read more

Full disclosure: I know a locksmith here. I can say honestly that this place will do right by you. The prices are competitive, and the service is top-notch. The owner really cares about his business, and everyone I've met there seems genuinely happy, if not passionate, about his job. The locksmith I know works 6 days a week, usually over 8 hours a day during the week, and really does enjoy working there. He will take the time to explain what's up with your locks, and if you have something else you'd like for him to look at while he's there, if he has the time, he'll do it. I should also note that they have an emergency number if you need a locksmith on off-hours. Additionally, if you need to make an appointment outside of their normal business hours, they are usually quite accommodating. read more

Southport Security is the BEST place for your security needs. I work at a doctor's office and we had a robbery and needed some new equipment for our door -- a new lock and a buzzer. From the moment I called for an appointment, their customer service was tip-top. TONY came out for an estimate and calmly walked us through all of our options. And within a day, someone (RAPHAEL) came out to install the our new lock and buzzer. Everyone who works here is kind and very knowledgeable. And put you at ease. I highly recommend Southport Security for your security and locksmith needs. read more

Asked this company to come by for an estimate; they were on time but the gentleman had a serious attitude with a fear for your life tone in order to defend overpriced items/labor. He was scribbling numbers down on a paper and when I asked for an itemized quote he just brushed me off and wrote a final price on the back of the card. When I asked if they could lower the price (since it was a big sale) They kept trying to compare themselves to other companies with a higher than though attitude and were implying that if I didnt want to spend that much money (basically that I was being cheap) i should go with a no-name brand recommended by a different company. After that I got a few more quotes from 2 different local companies and needless to say I went with their major competition who was significantly less in price and significantly higher is quality of customer service....WITHOUT compromising quality of locks...there are other options out there...bottom line, the "standard" labor prices mentioned by this company turned out not to be so standard since other companies beg to differ. Even if u think u have the best merchandise and are the best company out there...it imperative to match that idea to a improved quality of customer service. read more

Bad service & very arrogant. You literally have to stalk them to get something done from them and they will forget about you like they did me for weeks. Super unprofessional.... if you need to beg someone to take your money for a service you do not need them. read more

I am very disappointed with the service I received from this store. To begin, they failed to cut keys that worked. I tried to resolve this with the store, but they were closed on a Saturday (Feb 2) when I wished to return the keys. I was forced to purchase an additional set from Klein Hardware (that actually worked) due to an emergency situation. But worst of all, when I tried to get a refund for their mistake, they claimed the keys weren't their product and refused to give me a refund! Awful experience and awful customer service. read more

FANTASTIC! So I am the type of person who loses keys. I am always losing keys. For the most part, I find said keys quickly. Well, this time life threw a curve at me - my mailbox key broke in half. Yep, it sure did. I was walking down the street and I heard a clink. I looked down to see a sad key severed at the waist. As much as I would love to avoid the bills in my mailbox, it's really not a great idea. Not great at all. I'd been stalking the mailman for the last few days. I think he was tired of my obsessiveness. I called my property management company. Of course, since a toilet full of shit isn't overflowing onto my downstairs neighbor, they didn't return my calls. I sheepishly walked in this place and asked if they could make a key with the fragments I had. The man who worked there said it was likely they could. Much to my delight, they did make they keys and THEY WORKED! Yeehaw. Really nice people work here and they provide fantastic service. Now I can quit chasing my kind of hot mail carrier down the street and check my mail like a seemingly normal person. read more

I live in the neighborhood and I am a Realtor and I get keys cut frequently and have recommended Southport Security to many of my customers over the years. I even have a neighborhood web site where I have recommended them for many years. We lost a set of keys to our house, most likely in front of our house. It is Saturday and and I take my locks out to get them re-keyed. I show up as they are closing the blinds in front right around closing time. I talk the guy and explain my predicament and he says "we're closed" - I decide to mention that I have been using his services for years and have been recommending them for years. I have taken all the locks off of my doors to do this and it will take 10 or 15 minutes at closing. "I'm sorry, we're closed." I'm sorry, I'm done with doing business with you and I will no longer recommend your services. I always thought that a locksmith was a high service and a high trust business. You put your trust in a locksmith to protect your home and family. When someone where you expect that kind of relationship leaves you out in the cold -- it's time to find a new trusted partner. Good bye Southport Security. read more

I used to go to Home Depot to get keys made only to find that I would always have one or two keys out of a batch that didn't work. I came here twice and will never go anywhere else to get keys made. read more

Great shop! I've gone in a couple of times to have keys copied and they're always EXACT copies - none of the approximate versions that I've gotten elsewhere. And they've come out twice to do work on my house, both times coming out very quickly, both times telling me about a coupon for $30 off that they honor even if the customer doesn't ask about it. Now that's classy! read more

This company did a great job and came out to our condo within an hour of my call. That's the kind of service you really like, if you have reason to change your locks! The person who answered the phone was incredibly polite and sympathetic to our circumstances. It was kind of expensive, but I'm not sure how the prices compare to other locksmiths. read more

I cannot recommend this company enough. I came to them with a problem and they knew exactly what I was talking about and offered several solutions. They had a professional out to my location in less than the time specified and he did an amazing job while being honest and down-to-earth at the same time. He answered ALL my questions, listened to my suggestions and made sure I was 100% satisfied before he left. I will always call A-AAA first from now on when I need a locksmith! read more

We had an issue and needed to have all of our locks rekeyed as soon as possible. Tom was amazing and came out the same afternoon that I called, was SO friendly and very fair with pricing. Great experience and we will definitely use them again! read more

A friend of mine suggested Southport Securities to do some lock work in my house. The day I called they showed up, gave me a quote, and scheduled someone to come to the house. The guy showed up and did all the work fast, and well. He also pointed out that my gate was loose, which he could have just ignored. I would suggest these people to anyone. They are great and do a wonderful job! read more

I needed another key for my apartment and after going to several places (getting keys made that didn't work) and calling countless other places who couldn't give me any helpful info, I ended up getting my first informed response here. I was selling my condo and agreed to put a new lock on the sliding glass door to the balcony as part of the sales agreement. I saw A-AAA Southport Security's good reviews on Yelp. They came out a day after I called them to give me an estimate and, right on the spot, scheduled the work for a few days later, when it was more convenient for me. The locksmith who did the work was prompt, efficient, clean and courteous. I would definitely use this locksmith again. read more

Excellent service. Advised me on why my $25 lock from Home Depot broke and sold me a top of the line lock. The gentleman who helped me was very knowledgable and got the new lock keyed in less than five minutes and even custom fit the dead bolt for me. Thank you Thank you Thank you. Best of the best! read more

$225 and a 1hr20min wait for a 30 second lockout job? I locked myself out at 7pm on a weeknight - just the basic doorknob lock, not deadbolt or anything fancy. I had used Southport Security years ago when changing the locks on my house so they were my first call this time. I asked how much and how long. "$50 to get there plus whatever they find. They'll be right over." Well, it seems he just farmed it out to some guys in a van ("DD Lock Service" on my credit card statement) who charged what they felt like. OK, now I know better how to get in myself if needed (they didn't teach me - I learned another method later). And I should have asked for a fixed price. I'll let you be judge if you're figuring out whether to select Southport Security or someone else based on that price. read more

Southport Security does a great job. The only issue I have with them is that they are very very expensive and keep reducing their hours so it is very hard to get keys made. Their new hours are so limited I feel like they don't really want any business. This being said, they have always done an excellent job in terms of doing my locks and making keys. read more

If you are going to hire them because of their convenient location, make sure to ask a ton of questions on the phone before having them come out. We ended up paying $75 to stand around for 15 minutes get a lecture on how the "blue key" locks from Home Depot and Menards (which it turns out we have) are horrible and how they are meant to put locksmiths out of business. After a half-hearted attempt to fix an unrelated lock, they were gone. I would have expected a professional with more knowledge than us to ask us the right questions, or when they notice that we have something they cannot change, to provide reasonable customer service, but this is not the case. read more

Brought in the lock from our front gate because it wasn't working so great and we wanted a valet key made. He lubricated lock and changed something inside so both the valet key and the existing key would work with that lock. Gave us 2 keys... all for $15. read more

Great people. Great product. Excellent service. I will be a repeat customer for all of my security and key needs.

My condo building recently became self managed so we are now responsible for making any needed repairs, etc. Our front door has become increasingly difficult to use the key and it seemed like the key mechanism was broken. I called AAA and they suggested I try WD-40 on it before they send someone out and charge us for it. That worked like a charm. It's nice to know there are still honest businesses out there and I will go out of my way to recommend them in the future. read more

Very shady. These people have absolutely no customer service skills, and are so rude that it makes me wonder how they could have stayed in business at all. read more

I was locked out of my place. Thrilled that they showed up on time but that was it. The gentleman was not friendly in the least bit. I was charged $89.00 and away he went. I received a call about an hour later that my card was declined. I asked him to read me the number which he would not, so I gave it to him again. I asked what he wrote for the security number on the back of the card (note that it has rubbed off and the only numbers on the back of the card are 3 of the 4 digits from the front of the credit card.) he told me that the security number was *** and I explained that the correct number was ** and they had rubbed off. He said he reran the card and was still declined. He asked for another card. I asked him to rerun the card with the correct security number. He then proceeded to tell me the the security number didn't make a difference and he needed another card. I used another credit card and low and behold he asked for the security number. When I asked why he needed it since he said it didn't matter if he had the security number . I am so frustrated by this point. I wanted to hang up. He ran the card and it went through. Of course it did as should the first one I gave him. It was completely rude how he acted on the phone...it was his mistake that he wrote the wrong security code down and didn't want to admit it. If it would have been handled in a friendly manner then I wouldn't be pissed. And my card being declined because the WRONG security code was input! I stopped at an ATM before I went to meet the locksmith and the amount in my account could have paid the guys salary for a year! All he had to do was say oh, sorry ma'am I input the wrong code. The bottom line is I got into my place and that I am happy about. Would I ever use them again, NO. read more
