Don't call them. Don't use them. Call anyone except them. They took 2 hours to get to my building after first saying 40 minutes, then saying they would be there in 30 minutes. The technician then called and said he would be there in 15 minutes. When he did finally show up, I was charged...wait for it, $538.56 for them to drill the lock. They said it was because of the type of lock I had - but it took literally less than 2 minutes for him to get me in. I felt and still feel robbed. My roommate and I were locked out at midnight one night and someone MEGA Locksmith came to let us in. The gentleman claimed he could not let us in, and would in fact need to change our lock completely to get us into our home. We are brand new to the area and saw no other options at such a late hour, so we agreed. It took a long time, but finally we were in with a new lock. The lock looked okay to us and we paid the man. The next day, we realized the key was not turning in the lock. Instead, it was turning the actual locking keyhole all the way around. I'm talking 360 degree turns. This means our door could not be locked or unlocked from the outside. We called MEGA Locksmith back and asked for someone to come back out and help us. We were assured someone was on the way. No one showed up that night. The next day, we called again for someone to come out and help. We were again assured that someone was on the way. AGAIN no one showed up that day. They knew they provided scam service and did not want to fix their mistake. I called again and demanded to speak to a manager. This man asked for photos of the issues. After I sent these photos, he assured me someone would come out to help us. When no one came in a few hours, I called back and asked what was happening. He finally admitted he didn't actually have any control over sending someone out. Instead, he told me he would come out and fix the lock if I sent him an additional $100 over the phone. Of course, I did not do this and immediately hung up. At this point, I knew MEGA Locksmith was of zero help and was a scam. I decided to call our landlord and business manager. After calling our building manager, they sent someone from their team to help us out. These gentlemen were shocked to see our door in such an awful state. They said MEGA Locksmith had stripped two screws, severed another screw basically in half and totally ruined our door. Thankfully, our building manager was able to help us in the end. I have filed for a refund with MEGA locksmith. I would stay as far away as you can. They are a SCAM company. They never apologized for their awful work and never sent anyone back out even after promising to do so. It cost $350 for a job that was not done properly. DO NOT WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE. read more

This place is obviously struggling with its operations. I wouldn't bother calling them because they take your information, say they will reach out and.... then don't. I had used them a few years ago without issue so I did try inquiring a few times, leaving messages, and (upon their request) emailing them pictures and a description of the problem (twice I sent pics/description). They never called me back and the final straw was I tried them again in the morning, they said they would arrive at 2:30, I called them at 2:40 to see where they were, but the guy seemed to have forgotten and said he would leave soon, which never happened. BOTTOM LINE - Not only did they not fix the issue, they charged me for parts that were not installed. My strong recommendation - I WOULD STAY FAR AWAY from them. It's been a long time since I have dealt with a vendor that is frankly dishonest. I am a building manager and manage a number of buildings in the Chicagoland area. We had an issue with the front door of our buildings and I called a service that referred us to "Mega Locksmith and Security." A technician came out in a timely fashion and told me that the "strike" in the door had to be replaced. He explained that he would use a higher quality strike and according to the invoice charged me $180 for a "HES 5000C Electric Strike" (labor was additional). Unfortunately the problem was not resolved - I asked them to come back out and take care if it, but they refused to do so, with out an additional labor charge. At that point I called another company out - who along without maintenance man, took care of the problem. But here is what is interesting - the strike that was installed was not the one that I was sold, but one of much lesser quality (see pictures) and hence why the door was not still operating properly. Not only was it of a lesser quality - it was passed it warranty - so my assumption is that this was an older strike that they had found/ replaced from another job. read more

After the follow-up customer service and a rep physically coming out to offer to look at our doorknob and keys, I thought this was a great company. But I just didn't want to pay for new keys! So I chose to go back-and-forth on BBB with the prior property management company to avoid the board having to pay for a new doorknob and/or 40+ new sets of keys. Enter a second property management company, who apparently had the Mul-T-Lock key card for THREE MONTHS and never said a word about it. I get the key card. And after Mega Locksmith insisted that their company name or phone number is on all their Mul-T-Lock keys, it turned out to be them who made our keys. I'm just shaking my head. They should have better record-keeping. I gave them the property management company, the property manager's name at the time and even a time frame. They insisted they didn't make the keys. Then I get the key code and a receipt, plain as day their company name is on the box and proves they made the keys. If you work with this company, you BETTER keep all your records. I'll stick to working with the locksmith who helped us in the middle of me going at it with two property management companies. They called Mul-T-Lock and really tried to figure this missing key card out, and they weren't even the ones who made the original keys. Mega Locksmith was! I have used them 2 times and they have been awesome they usually come within a few hours pricing is ok.. Service is $125 plus 55 an hour so it will cost you $200 first hour but I think its worth it. The installer was honest the entire time, and made a genuine effort to fix our broken intercom before we installed a new one. They did not charge us for the little bit of time they spend trying to fix the old one once we decided we needed to move forward with installing a new one. Today, we noticed the microphone on the intercom was not working. They were great about popping by on short notice and fixed the issue in 5 minutes. I would never use them again. Me and my downstairs neighbor inadvertently used them three times. I used them twice and they hit me up for upward of $500 in time of desperation. The more desperate i was the more they charged me. Each time the person who showed up from a seemingly local locksmith shop which turned out to not exist, left us a card with that logo and name. They are scam artists and they operate out of fake listings all over the city to make them appear to be close by / neighborhood locksmith. The door to my unit would sometimes slam too hard shifting the mechanics of the lock to the point that I couldn't unlock it with my key so I ended up using yelp to find a locksmith twice. My downstairs neighbor lost her keys and did the same thing once. Their type of scam got written up in the news: search for David Segal "locksmith scam". Update: The gentleman making the comment below on behalf of this business is asking me to produce invoices to prove a review I posted two years ago, which he had Yelp remove last week. There are reviews going back to 2010 describing the same bait and switch experience as I had in my original review. He has no explanation for why three separate bait-and-switch locksmiths dispatched from seemingly local shops left business cards behind with that name and logo ringing their number. I'm glad the business has started to care about negative experiences starting last week, but the past can't be erased. I'm thankful Yelp reviews has helped them move toward being a legitimate business after more than 7 years, and I hope the business focuses on creating more positive reviews going forward, and stop harassing me and other negative reviewers from the past. read more

Unprofessional and terrible service. They only "guarantee" their work for 90 days, which seems unreasonable for a business that installs locks that presumably should last many many years, but that's their prerogative I suppose. The knob handle always had trouble turning; when it would get slightly cold outside (anywhere even near freezing/32°) the lock wouldn't latch to the gate so we were left with the front door just exposed/accessible; and the keys would constantly get stuck in the front part of the lock handle unable to turn. When we called about 6 months into the lock being installed asking for them to fix it because we couldn't physically get out of our front gate they insisted on a $55 fee for sending someone out and $95/hr service fee be paid JUST FOR SOMEONE TO CHECK IT OUT! When I called for another issue and suggested that it was possible that maybe the lock was installed improperly from the get-go and that they should stand by their work and fix something that wasn't ever right (and after saying that in many different ways for several minutes and getting nowhere I said "listen, I'm not sure if it was the wrong hardware or if someone installed it improperly but the thing has never f*ckin' worked"), the man I spoke with told me he wouldn't listen to bad language and he hung up on me. I ended up having to call from a different number because he wouldn't pick up from my cell number. When we spoke again he insisted that he wouldn't keep listening to insults (aka me suggesting that someone installed the lock wrong to begin with) and we were left at an impasse because he said since it's been "such a long time since it's been installed" (1.8 years) it's probably not their fault because a lot can happen in that time and it's $150 to send someone out to troubleshoot. Anyway, I called another place and they acknowledged my concerns instead of deflecting and blaming me and sent someone out for $15 to check it out. Do NOT go to these guys for ANY of your locksmith needs. Period. read more

Of course, if you're locked out of your house, you have little-if any-leverage over the locksmith. I was locked out on a Saturday morning, called the 24/7 number on our buzzer, and was directed to Mega. They were over in the 20 minute promised time, which was good. The original dispatcher told me the cost would be $120 (when I asked why so high, he just said that's the cost for labor and lock.) When the locksmith came, I led him to the back door in hopes of not messing up the communal front door I share with a neighbor (who wasn't answering his door). Locksmith tells me that the price is $120 PER LOCK and because the door had a deadbolt and a knob lock, the price would be $240. I balked, of course, and he quickly lowered his voice and said "But for you, I could make it a cheaper. Just for you." This shakedown felt straight out of the movies. I ask how much and he says, "For you, I'll do both locks for $150." There is nothing legit about this at all. He clearly is just milking the situation. It's raining, I'm locked out, and have no choice but to agree. We go to the communal front door instead because he said it would rather not damage/break the deadbolt. I explain my neighbor wasn't answering but I'd try his house again. While I'm ringing the neighbor's doorbell so he could come open the communal door, Locksmith pops it open in under a minute. I wish he had waited like I asked but seeing the door open was a temporary relief. We go to our front door just as the neighbor comes out. I apologize for inconveniencing him (though why he hadn't answered the door the 30+ times I had been ringing it earlier is annoying. It was 12:30pm, not 6am...) Locksmith says "Oh that sucks. If he opened the door, he could have saved you $30." I said "I was ringing him while you popped the door. There was no time." Locksmith says "Ah, should have been faster then." 3 minutes later, my door is popped open. The entire process took under 10 minutes and no actual work (he used what looked like a plastic sheet and a screwdriver), no keys were replicated, etc. and it cost $150?!?! While writing up the un-itemized ticket, he asked if I wanted to add a tip.I clearly said "No thanks. I think %150 is more than enough." Locksmith looks at me dubiously. The guy clearly is scamming me for minimum $30, I'm not about to pay him more. Like I said, there's little I can say or do when in such a vulnerable position. I felt like Mega purposely used this against me and extorted more money for the basic job. I won't be using their services ever again and I'm taking many, many precautions to ensure that I won't have to. Despicable business ethics. read more

Stay far away from these guys. Back in July of 2009 I returned to my condo in the Sandburg Village Apartments to find the deadbolt completely stripped and inoperable. My luck it was a Sunday so our doorman provided us with the contact information for supposedly a reputable locksmith for our building. We were thankful to have the gentleman show up within a reasonable amount of time however while we were pleased with the drill job allowing us to regain access to our place, we were really unhappy with the install on the new lock. First off the replacement was some generic deadbolt that looked extremely cheap. I asked the guy whether these were quality and he assured me it was. But no! Starting just this past spring (less than a year later), the bolt already started to jam. Now it's Fall and the bolt is jamming more regularly (to the point I could barely get the door open today). I tracked down the company and called requesting service and they said I'd have to pay them more money because they only guarantee their work for 3 months. I'm disgusted and suppose I should take this as another example of a hard learned lesson that if you want anything done right in this world you have to do it yourself because the alternative is a half-assed job with substandard materials. Our management company recommended this locksmith for our use although now that we have had issues with Mega Locksmith, our management company claims they didn't recommend them. You had to come back and put our original door handle and deadbolt back and now the original lock does not fit because of the cutting and drilling you made to our door. 2nd is that you did not provide us key code cards that allow us to go to any vendor to have multiple keys made. When I called to ask for them, you responded that you destroyed the cards but you have our codes on file. When I asked for these codes, you said you would contact our management company with this information. Now you have our MUL-T-LOCK codes held hostage and we can not make duplicates without using your company. There are all sorts of things wrong with this and I have also filed a complaint with the BBB to help with the resolution of this issue. Other locksmiths I have called have asked who we did business with and they had nothing good to say about your company. Buyer beware! read more

I called Mega Locksmith because their number was on my intercom and I needed a second opinion on repairs for the intercom's microphone. On the phone, they stated that the service call was $55 and $85 an hour for labor. I agreed, knowing that I wouldn't need any labor performed and was happy to pay the service fee to get another opinion. When the technician arrived, he opened the panel and tested the electrical circuit. After attempting to test the microphone while adjusting the volume controls, he deemed that the entire unit would need to be replaced. I wasn't surprised and asked if they accepted credit cards. The tech said that the fee was $55 plus an hour of labor. Given the brief nature of the visit, I made it clear that I did not expect to pay for an hour of labor. After speaking with the home office, they were unwilling to compromise and let me pay for the 15 minutes of "labor" received. I had another company estimate this fix and only charged me $45 for the visit with the same level of "labor". I don't recommend working with this company. read more

DO NOT USE. I called, no answer, left message. No one called me. I called again, no answer, left message. No one called me. Supposed to be 24 hours service. I called back again and a lady answered. I was given the estimate of $29.00 to review and $69.00 to get my condo door open. They said they were busy and didn't seem interested in this service call. They said you can call another company if you want. I said you are on the approved vendor list for the condo building. The service person (Victor) called and also didn't seemed interested either. It sounded like my call was an inconvenience for him. The only thing they did that they said they would was call when on their way. Victor called and said the key worked fine. Then he said it was the deadbolt. I said install a new lock. Oh I can't do that, this is a $800 lock. Then while on the phone he said, no it isn't the deadbolt, he said that wood doors expand and it was the hole that the lock goes in. He can't do anything for me. I asked him to leave the door unlocked so I could get in tonight after being out of town for five days. He then says it is $180 for this SERVICE call. The painters I hired ended up disappearing with the original key I had to my condo, and I needed to get into my unit as did the building management. They came by my condo and changed the lock really quick. It did not take more than 20 minutes. I ended up calling the exact same company a month later to change my locks again. I called them over 2 weeks ago, the person who answered phone said they would send somebody on Tuesday between certain time, nobody showed up. called back, they forgot to schedule but somebody was nearby and they came by later that day. Showed them all our issues and said we would have proposal in 48 hours, even gave me their cell number to text. By Saturday still nothing (website says they are open 24 hours). Left a text and informed back they are closed on weekend, will get proposal Monday, Got nothing, texted again on Wednesday, no response. Texted the office and no response. Two weeks later still nothing and no response. Called another locksmith and they got back immediately and work scheduled. Worse service ever. read more

I'm extremely pleased and impressed with Mega Locksmith, and Lukas particularly. My condo building needed a new phone intercom system, as well as significant gate repairs and upgrades. The job required intercom/wiring expertise, as well as metal welding for the gates, plus locksmith work too. Lukas came initially to provide an estimate. He was extremely knowledgeable and thorough about all elements of the job. He laid out the options directly and followed up with two pricing scenarios. I was very impressed from the start. When the work began, Lukas coordinated all elements on site. Being an old building, there were some elements of the job that required more time and effort than originally anticipated. A one day job became two days of work for the crew of three--but impressively and honestly, Lukas did not hesitate to bring back the full crew and he held true to the estimated pricing. Days later we discovered one more tweak necessary and he came back with his crew to make sure the work was perfect and that we were satisfied in full. The final work is exactly what we had hoped to achieve. I would hire Lukas and Mega Locksmith again and I recommend them highly for this type of project.
