Cute coffee place! Hit the spot for me. All of the biscuit breakfast options sounded amazing, but I went with the cheese/bacon/egg option, sans bacon. They were nice enough to suggest subbing in sliced turkey since I don't eat pork, which I took them up on. I also ordered a seasonal cardamom coffee drink. Call me basic, but yes, I'm a total sucker for any spiced, seasonal drink situation. The drink was good, not too sweet, but could have had more of that spice flavor for me. However, I'm usually never one to refuse or dislike a coffee unless it's Starbucks (sorry not sorry). The biscuit was crumbly goodness that filled me up, and I liked the toppings with it. My only complaint was that the egg on top was ICE cold. It was an unexpected twist considering the biscuit was warm and the cheese was melted, but clearly the egg had been pre-prepared and had been in the fridge. I would have much rather waited a few more minutes for a nice, warm egg. All in all I was happy with what I ordered and would come back when I visit Eugene in the future. read more

Quite possibly the softest fluffiest biscuit I have ever had. I ordered "the Jewel" and besides the biscuit itself, the pepper jelly really stood out. Unfortunately, I was pretty caffeinated up by the time I arrived to Southpine, so I didn't try any of their specialty coffee drinks, but I will next time they sounded so good! There's a smattering of tables and some bar seating inside. I would consider this cafe good for groups, although groups on the smaller side as any more than say six people would be hard to really accommodate well in the space. My visit was on a cold, rainy weekend morning and they had both the front and back doors open. Don't know if that was something for Covid-type ventilation or what, but it was pretty chilly inside and I had to keep my jacket on my whole stay. read more

A definite must go to place in Eugene! I expected to be disappointed by Southpine, especially after I stopped by one day and it looked like they closed early (sold out maybe?), and then they closed for staffing the next day I was going to go. I finally got in today, and it was busy. They had no bakery items, and i didn't think any biscuit and gravy would be worth $9. I am happy to say that despite all that, it was worth it and I left impressed with the staff and Happy with the food and drink. They were busy, but they got people in and out quickly and efficiently. I don't think I waited even 5 minutes, despite the crowd. My drink (a crème brûlée espresso) was tasty. The star was the biscuit though. It was so good! It was buttery and tender and everything a good biscuit should be. I get a random craving for biscuits and gravy every once in a while, so it won't be a regular order for me, but probably more than it was before I had theirs! The gravy was good too, flavorful and full of sausage. That biscuit though... if you go, do yourself a favor and get one! It would be great plain, with butter and honey or jam, as a sandwich, with soup, etc. it was really just that good. I'll be back to try some of their other coffees, and definitely some other biscuits. The sandwiches looked good too, and I've heard the seeded bread is amazing. Can't wait to try more! read more

I mean, just look at this BnG, it's perfection. Biscuits are light and fluffy yet moist and flaky. Gravy is not too thick, not too thin and well seasoned. Chunks of pork sausage aren't just bland bits of meat they're perfectly seasoned morsels with crispy edges. Sooo perfect. Every single baked item I've tried here is just delicious and with such lovely textures and attention to detail. And they're sweets are never too sweet. The service is also always top notch and the ambiance is perfect. They even have CD's for sale, which, if I had a CD player I'd definitely swoop a few. Definitely a favorite for me. Ordered to go: got coffee quickly, but watched as someone started my sandwich (Goat Herder), while doing several other things simultaneously, my sandwich just laying on the prep counter and being made in a here-and-there manner, while same staff stopped making my sandwich and chatted and laughed with female owner. I waited 20 minutes for it. When I got home, my coffee was cold, and when I opened the to-go box, it was a mass of arugula tossed all over, with very little of anything else. I really love the food I've tried, their menu is much better than their bakery options. I was so excited when they added a separate entrance for takeout because their cafe side is SMALL and absolutely no standing room for takeout orders. I showed up Saturday morning around 9:30 and their takeout side was closed, and the cafe side had about ten people crammed in-line with nearly every table full. Exactly why they need the takeout side. I turned around and left immediately because there was no way I was going to be smushed inside waiting a while for my takeout. Really disappointed because I live close by and was planning on making this a regular grab and go breakfast, but not if I can't rely on the takeout side being open! read more

They do not have as much gluten free options as they tout online when it is looked up. The only gluten free options when we called them was toast and a muffin and when we went to the store the same lady we talked to was really rude about it. Welcoming atmosphere with happy, smiling employees. Table space can be an issue, depending on traffic. I had heard tales of their famous biscuits and gravy. The tales did not exaggerate. The written reviews sounded good. Delicious coffee was mentioned over and over. Best biscuits I've ever had was mentioned several times as well. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and a black coffee. The coffee had no flavor at all. Nothing but tasteless brown water. The biscuits were too done on the bottom to the point of being crunchy yet they were doughy in the middle. The sausage used in the gravy was cooked way to much as it was crunchy yet the gravy was thin and watery. Very disappointing. Either great Coffey or great biscuits would have been worth the trip. Have to say this place has become one of my favorite spots. There Pastries rotate daily and are always a hit. Other favorites are the Turnovers which always perfectly flaky, lemon poppyseed muffin Burt's with lemon flavor. The honey cakes in the pictures are my favorite and they went above and beyond to make them special so I could get them. The staff are friendly beyond words. And they are seem to be on task working hard. The pricing is not cheap. But not crazy either. Most everything is House Made items. Which make it worth the price for the delicious fresh flavors. The quality is worth more money but if you come try to eat with only a 5 dollar bill you will still get a delicious pastry and can wash it down with provided ice cold Water. Stopped in for some treats and have to say, was blown over by the awesome service and the baked goods. This pumpkin brioche was so so good, I made some French Toast with it and I can honestly say I'll regret making it with regular bread going forward. Awesome cafe very close to Coburg Rd, tucked into a small cute strip mall. Outdoor dining is very nice, quiet with nice trees and green area surrounding. Easy parking. I just wanted to update my review to say that this has become our go-to local spot for pastries, coffee, and breakfast. Everything on their menu is fantastic. The biscuits, the sandwiches, the coffee- all of it is great! They have been so kind throughout all of the COVID craziness and have adapted so well during the different guideline changes. Just visited the spot in person for the first time. Other people have brought me pastries, but today I went in on my own. Had a wonderful chocolate banana Bundt cake. But the highlight was a fennel latte! I was shocked when I saw it on the board, but asked about it. The barista perhaps owner told me that she makes it from fennel herself and add some simple syrup it was fantastic! She said it's a February special but if people really like it, she will continue to have it on the menu. I REALLY LIKE IT.!! read more

Excellent bakery near Gateway area of Eugene/Springfield. It is definitely a neighborhood favorite because it was busy the whole time we were there. The atmosphere is casual country. There is a good variety of indoor and outdoor seating for a restaurant their size. The service was friendly, quick and accommodating. My friend and I ordered the tuna sandwich and the egg salad sandwich. They came sliced in half so it was easy to share. Both sandwiches were filled to the max and very tasty. Entire group has sandwiches and everyone is super happy. My salad had tuna added to it and it was perfect. Great prep. Great combo. And perfectly filling. The chocolate chip cookie is epic. I wanted to shout out my favorite local cafe! Pictured is The Jewel (my all-time fave, one of the best things I've ever eaten - two warm biscuit halves, sweet pepper jelly, bacon, soft egg, sesame seeds), their Sugar Pine Honey Latte, and their coffee cake. As a former southerner, let me say: their biscuits are just perfect--crisp edges, perfectly soft middle, incredible texture. They make everything in-house, with a different selection of pastries and baked goods every day. I've rotated between their lattes/coffees both soft and hot, sandwiches with herbed bread, the Gone Country (savory biscuit with toppings), Bee's Knees (biscuits with local honey and butter), the South Pine (biscuits and sausage gravy - again, as a southerner, it's just so delish), and various sweets like chocolate chip cookies (literally perfect, my boyfriend and I talk about them constantly because they're the best we've ever had), baklava, cinnamon roll, cardamon roll, coffee cake, etc. The staff/owners are always sweet and working so hard every time I go in. When my family flew in, I brought them there first thing, and they were floored by how amazing everything was. Moving to Oregon, I felt like I needed to find a nice cafe/bakery to ground me (plus, feed my coffee and sweet cravings and give me that warm feeling). Oof.. I really wanted to like southpine after seeing the high ratings online but it's hard to give it more than two stars after our experience this morning. Came on a Sunday around 10:15 (a somewhat early time for a weekend breakfast by most standards) and their sign outside actually said 'open for breakfast'. A promising start. We then overheard the barista taking orders mention that the kitchen was closing after the people's order in front of us, I guess their baker was out sick the entire week and they were short staffed. Something that is always a tough pill to swallow when you're next in line to get biscuits. But okay, we understand that staffing restaurants is hard these days and it goes without saying that all employees should have sick time. We ended up ordering the pumpkin chai and maple nut latte. The drinks took around 20 minutes to come out which by any standard is a long time to wait for an espresso. The chai was 3/5 but not really that pumpkin-y or chai-y. The maple nut latte tasted like it had been mostly flavored with coffee mate (no kidding)! So that one unfortunately gets 1/5. So this rating is actually intended to be a reflection of just the drinks along with a report of the overall experience there. The staff was kind overall but a little more 'what can we do' could have gone a long way. The employee just kind of told us the situation and shrugged. We will try southpine again and can only hope we'll hit it on a better day as the biscuits did look pretty good and I've heard good things about the pastries. Maybe we had too high of standards after being in Portland for work earlier in the week and having good service, good coffee, and good food with fewer staff at each of the places we went. read more
