I always love swinging by Palace Bakery and slipping to the back to see what's going on through the large viewing window showing the bakers at work. Don't skip this part when you drop by. A friend warned me that Saturday market was happening so parking might be difficult but the 30 minute and one hour slots in front of the bakery are very helpful. I ordered a 20 ounce Matcha with water, a 20 ounce iced black black tea infused with vanilla bean -- it's incredibly refreshing! -- and one of their amazing freshly squeezed orange juices. It's a bakery to be sure but don't let that fool you: the beverages here are just THAT GOOD. One drink doesn't feel like it's going to be enough... and in my experience, it's usually not. There are staff are all very helpful...there but today one young woman stood out fif only I could remember her name!) but she has glasses with hair tied back and was going through the line taking orders to ensure that customers were greeted and welcomed and had a chance to place their orders in advance. Their jalapeño biscuits are outstanding -- don't skip the honey butter... it deserves to be slathered on -- and if you're looking for comfort food, try their banana bread loaf or their zucchini bread. One more thing that I find really wonderful here: at 2 o'clock there espresso goes on sale. Yes. You heard that right. So for those of us who feel that coffee should happen all through the day... Palace Bakery (now known as Palace Coffee Roasters) is has been around Eugene for decades, but I've never actually been here until recently. When I was growing up we didn't really visit bakeries, I don't drink coffee, and my mom was a black coffee only sort of person, so not really much need. Whilst visiting Saturday Market I stopped in with my tired, grumpy toddler to get her a hot chocolate. I got myself one too, and it was excellent. The whipped cream especially was nice; I am positive it's made from heavy whipping cream and it was so yummy I just wanted to eat some whipped cream. I know my kiddo enjoyed hers, especially if the state of her face and clothes was any indication. I've had a lot of hot chocolate, including from Mindy's in Chicago which many like to claim as the best (it's good, but honestly a bit too thick for me), but I think Palace may have the best. The secret is that they use ganache for their hot chocolate. It's the ganache that they sell in the shop, so it's easy to acquire. The staff member mentioned that she likes to dip strawberries in it, and she said they keep it in the fridge and it stays good for a while. I'm not sure I'll pick some up this time since we're heading into the warm weather months, but we'll be getting some (or having my sister send some) as we move into autumn for sure. I will say that if you get hot chocolate you will need to check work--TWICE I asked for whipped cream, at two different visits, and they didn't put any on (though they left space for it, so either fill it with chocolate or add the cream please). I was planning to get a maple bar here, but when I saw them changed my mind--they didn't look particularly appetizing. They had several other pastries though so it was an easy swap out for a kouign amann, my favorite pastry, and a marionberry strudel. Both were great. The marionberry strudel was particularly special since marionberries are more tart blackberry variant native to Marion County, Oregon; marionberries are rarely found outside Oregon, and if so not much beyond the border states. It was overflowing with marionberry and hit the spot, and my little one was a fan too. There was a good amount of seating, too, spread across two rooms. There's an entrance both from the Park Street side and Pearl; on the west side you'll get to see the bakers hard at work. They had some huge breakfast burritos that looked really good, but since I wasn't heading home immediately we took a pass on them--this time. Parking is street only, though it's not unlikely that you'll find parking on Pearl, Broadway, Oak, or Park. read more

Palace is great! They're open earlier than most of the places nearby which is great, they have an excellent selection of sweet bakery items, savory breakfast choices, and of course the coffee. Plus, every month there's new art and/or a non-profit that they feature and they're always so interesting. And they always have pics of customer/employee pets up by the checkout which I enjoy looking at. I really like the local connections they seem to have. I've been trying to expand my coffee tastes and have ordered a different drink and snack when I've come in. So far I haven't tried anything I don't like. There is a cheesy pesto twist they have that I get most often. I believe they've opened a second location in Springfield but I haven't had a chance to really check it out yet. read more

Every baked item I have had from there has been pretty tasty. It is interesting to me that the different bakeries in Eugene has unique twists and their own niche. I would say for Palace Bakery they have a large selection of baked goods, and their coffee drinks are also good! (Sometimes it seems like you have to choose between baked goods Or good coffee/espresso, but in this case they have both! That is a nice treat!) However, their tea drinks are not as good. I tend to make my tea pretty weak as it was, but I order the "London Fog" but it didn't taste like any Earl Grey was in there. So, I wouldn't recommend ordering the London Fog, but previously I have ordered their Hazelnut Latte, and it was exquisite! And, the actual space/ambiance of the place is quite odd.... I recently read a review from "Steve P." I think he described it pretty well. ANd, unfortunately I don't have a history in Eugene, since I only moved here in May 2024 and am writing this in August 2024, so I don't know the backstory of the bakery. It is possible that this could have been some sort of Covid precaution perhaps. But, there is only one door that enters Inside Palace Bakery and it walks you through this display case with carrot cake, and other things, but you are shuffled to the other room where the baristas and cash register is. And, it feels frazzled to order quickly instead of taking your time getting to think and consider what to order. The service in general has been friendly and brisk. I have always gotten my items to go- and I feel like if I were to try to eat and enjoy there, I would want to make sure the weather is a good day for eating outside, since there were not many options for indoor seating. I was able to attend a special one-off event during the Olympic Trials for Track & Field, we ran to Palace Bakery and they made really cute cookies that looked like "New Balance Running Shoes" the event was sponsored by New Balance, and we were at a back entrance of the bakery for that private function and it was really cool. One of my highlights of the summer. Their sugar cookies they made were really good looking, and also delicious to eat as well. The perfect amount of softness and sweetness. So, far my favorite item that I have ordered from there has been their "Orange & Chocolate Biscotti" it was firm like a biscotti but just a little bit soft and fresh, and delicate. And, the flavors were really well balanced and not overly sweet. I will get that again, with an espresso drink (Not their London Fog/Earl Grey Tea Latte). read more

I used to go here all the time when I worked at the county, but since getting a new job I hadn't stopped in until today. It's just as good as I remember! I picked up some baked goods for friends today and got a coffee to keep me warm on my walk back to my car. I got a brioche, raspberry muffin, chocolate croissant, chocolate hazelnut scone, and a decaf chocolate latte. I ate the brioche when I got home and it was so so good. It's so buttery and fresh, I could eat a hundred of them without getting sick of them. We haven't broken into the rest yet but I'm already looking forward to them. The coffee was also good and hot. The shop is nice and warm inside and it's fairly cozy. There are some tables towards the back, so you could sit and work while enjoying your coffee and treats. The staff are super sweet and work hard. I've been here when the line is out the door and I've never once encountered an employee who wasn't incredibly nice. There is street parking pretty much everywhere. If you're lucky you can get a metered spot that still has some time left on it. They have a restroom upstairs that they provide a key for. I miss going here regularly and want to make more of an effort to support them, especially since the brioche is so good. read more

Outstanding coffee spot & local bakery in downtown Eugene! Wonderful bean roasted just for them and their artisanal coffee drink game is strong. If a business has a wall of community doggos & puppers, then I know I've found my people. My Duck shared this spot with me during a visit and I simply had to make return visits. The baked goods range from housemade English muffins (more later) to assorted scones to artisan pastries such as a kouign amman. I sampled a slice of their banana bread along with a cuppa and it was simply outstanding. (Pro tip: always get end pieces. As a middle child, I had to fight for the loaf end pieces.) There is an off-menu series of secrets such as the 'breakfast sandwich', a lovely gift of egg, bacon, & arugula served on the aforementioned housemade English muffin. This sammich is delicious and you have to know the code or whatever, but if you have read this, then ya know. The baristas are super friendly, and if the living collage of doggo selfies are any indication, this is an exceptionally *human* place. Seating sprawls across both the bakery & coffee slots, bistro-style, plus there are a couple of tables out front if you wish to brave the weather. In or out, Palace is fabulous! read more

What an odd little store. You walk in and there is a narrow hall type of a room with a small display case to the left with some treats and sandwiches. Along the wall to the right there are several small tables and an open doorway leading to another narrow hall type of a room. This room is where the baristas are along with another small display of treats. Towards the back there are a few more small tables. Seating is limited with small tables for two, but we managed to grab another chair for the three of us. Lighting is pleasant and the soft background music gives the place a mellow atmosphere. Coffee is a pleasant medium range blend. My Breve was very smooth and rich. It was also made perfectly. I also had a breakfast sandwich that I thought could have been a homemade English Muffin. It was not. I wish they had lied to me because it was really very good and well prepared. They credited their preparation for the quality of the muffin sandwiches. Fresh and not tough. Nice bacon. Fresh arugula. The square egg appears to be something from a carton but is good nonetheless. Service is very cheerful and informative and the staff greet you warmly, answering questions without missing a beat on what they are doing. Extremely very good dog friendly, neat little bakery/coffee spot with a fun city vibe. We go here a lot because it's right in a convenient area we often find ourselves. For us, not really a sit down and stay location but great on the go. The baked goods look scrumptious, and the baristas are always enthusiastic and fast. There's a window to the bakery you can sometimes watch them work their craft which can be fun with my kiddo... and I like it too. The coffee menu is solid, and there's well made creative spins as well as old favorites. Strong without tasting burnt, the coffee itself has a great flavor. I had a spinach and Brie croissant last Friday morning and it was really disappointing. The first one had been heated in the microwave and was floppy and limp. I took it back and opted for one that was not heated. While it wasn't so floppy, it was a bit limp and the filling unpleasant to eat and soggy - not crispy like a croissant should be. Amazing place. Cute shop that really knows their customers. My first time here and the coffee is AMAZING. Taste divine- the best I have had in Eugene. The food- top notch! Homemade gourmet pastries, breakfast sandwiches, they make their own bagels and all food. They are cheap too. Only $22 for 3 pastries, a breakfast sandwich and a Voodoo coffee. They even have homemade donuts. I can't wait to try them next time. This cafe is so cute, with puppy photos all around decorating the space. I tried Palace Bakery for the first time this morning and it will definitely be added to my coffee shop rotation! I got my scone and coffee immediately after I ordered. Together it was on 6.50$ which is pretty good! Employees were very friendly. I loved the large selection of unique pastries they had. The scone I got was perfectly crispy on the outside and cakey on the inside. Also not too sweet. I definitely want to come back and try the others. They had a stuffed "bagel bomb" that looked super yummy as well. There's a good amount of seating and some nice art you get to look at while you're enjoying a coffee! This is a cute little bakery/coffee shop just north of downtown. It's a little bit cramped inside, but could still be a decent place to study. I knocked off a star because there were gnats flying around our table (which was next to the trash can, so that's probably why) and we ended up being so distracted that we left before we would have normally. They serve Wandering Goat coffee, which was great (as expected), and their brioche cinnamon roll was incredible. I wish it had been warmed up a little bit, but it was still super good. read more

The best coffee shop and bakery in Eugene! They roast their own espresso / coffee and it is very good. The pastries and baked goods are high quality and they have a nice variety to choose from. My favorite thing about this cafe, though, is the staff - all the baristas are very friendly and go out of their way to learn your name and drink, and genuinely brighten my day each morning. This bakery is a great little gem in downtown Eugene. I came here on a Sunday morning around 10 to study, and I got a veggie cornish pastry, which was flaky and delicious. The girl at the counter was also awesome and warmed it up for me without me even asking! There's a fair amount of seating, although I can see how it would fill up quickly during busy times, and I had an xfinity wifi hotspot so I was able to get on the internet to do some work. Note that on Sundays they don't unlock the bakery doors so you enter through the coffeeshop next door. Super friendly service and a great veggie cornish pastry! I just wish they had a few more pastry options, but overall this is a great spot! read more

this place is...... okay. their pastries are amazing, and the customer service is lovely. but the coffee.... oh the coffee. it was burnt and bitter. the flavor of our mochas didn't even attempt to cover up the burnt espresso. they really need to adjust their shot window or something. they don't even call mochas mochas, they call them chocolate latte's which is honestly where we should've known we weren't going to be promised a good coffee. good service but unfortunately won't be coming back. read more
