The bread is wonderful and made with several varieties of local flour from the Camas Mill. I love the Kalamata Levain, the regular Levain, and the New York rye for open faced sandwiches, canapés, & Rueben's, the baguettes for dips and hors d'ouvres. Love the chocolate croissants available on Saturdays. This local bakery is a real gem. The Levain is fermented over five days, naturally risen, and somehow my Celiac friend can eat it. read more

The Saturday morning pastries are AMAZING. I got the chocolate scone, a chocolate croissant, and a regular croissant and was thoroughly pleased. The croissants had a pleasant crunch, and were just buttery enough. The scone was rich, moist enough (but still as dry as a good scone should be), and pleasantly crumbly. We also grabbed a baguette which smells divine and tastes even better. We'll definitely be back! read more

Saverio's is an interesting little bakery. Turns out the best way to order is through pre-order and pick up. They have a few breads offered for sale day of but it seems that the regulars know to pre-order. The sourdough was good, not great for the high price. It was strange inside, I almost felt I went to the wrong store. Probably won't be going back here, as I can find sourdoughs cheaper in that taste just as good if not better. read more

This is a small little place and very easy to miss if you don't know about it. They have limited supplies of their goods and limited hours and they take cash or check ONLY. Sounds like too much trouble??? Oh no...this is the REAL deal! A delightful owner, with super delightful breads and "pastries". Their levain white French bread is to die for. I got some croissants today as well and I am extremely picky when it comes to baked goods.... These did NOT disappoint. The croissant was crispy and flaky on the outside, airy and light on the inside, not greasy and a beautiful light buttery taste. I can't wait to try the pain au chocolate (croissants with chocolate pieces). Now, only to wait for them to start making almond croissants, and I would be there every day they are open. (Closed Sunday and Monday, open from 10-3 the other days). Again, limited options but all made right there and soooooo fresh. Definitely worth the "search" for this little gem. Saverio's levain is the closest thing taste-wise to good sourdough that I've found in the Eugene Springfield area. Baguettes come either crusty or soft. The pastries on Saturday are good enough to cause a line to form outside the shop. Croissants, chocolate croissants, meat and cheese croissants, fabulous biscuits, pretzels, chocolate scones. This is the most accommodating baker on earth. His bread is beyond great. Sourdough is the best I've ever eaten. You can eat it fresh with just butter and it is heavenly. I've plowed through 8 loaves of this bread and still haven't made a sandwich. It's too good to wait. Now for the best part. I've lost THREE pounds eating this bread. Wow is all I can say! I had been searching for a bakery that makes fresh whole wheat sourdough loaves. I saw a post on a local Facebook page about Saverio's and discovered they make whole wheat sourdough Thursdays only. I marked my calendar and drove on over. It is small and hard to miss if you don't know where it is. Luckily I found it and it was very fast and easy picking up. When I got home I was eager to cut into the loaf and try a slice. It is SO very good! So soft on the inside and crunch on the outside. The only problem is I'll have to restrain myself from eating the whole loaf in one day! I'll definitely be back. read more

This is the best place for bread in Eugene/Springfield hands down. Not a wimpy/flighty bakery that does not know the importance of offering real east coast style rye bread. Best bread I've have in a long time. I got the batard. It is beautifully soft on the inside, and perfectly crunchy on the outside. Available when I went were baguettes, the batard I got and a wheat sourdough batard. Wednesdays and Saturdays rye is available. During the week most of the bread is sold wholesale to businesses. Saturday the owner said he also makes croissants and other things. Go, you won't be disappointed. Update....I went today which is a Saturday. Oh my, I had trouble not over buying. I got another batard, and a lot of other stuff. The biscuits are divine, chocolate croissant heavenly, the pretzel bites were good ( I would probably love them more if I hadn't had the other items). Then there was the bacon and cheese filled bread thing.....wow. Thank god I had family over to help sample these things, and since these items are fairly large we split them in half. Again, I have failed to take a picture. As others have said this is a small place run by the owner. From a distance it looks like it's not open...do not drive by and think it's closed. IF one prefers European-style bread instead of the 'wonder bread' type usually found in this country, then Eugene/Springfield options are somewhat limited. There are several but the shining star, in our opinion, is SAVERIO's bakery. As a small, one-person business, it is hardly surprising his retail side is limited on open days and hours, also a small chore to find - but well worth the effort. Being from NJ I 've been searching for 3 years for an authentic Jewish rye bread. in our area. I finally found one at Saverio's that is to die for! Crisp crunchy crust and soft pillowy interior.
