You get all the best stores from West Ed without the intense crowd. This mall is the cleanest is ever been to! It's fantastic, although every corner/inside intersection looks the same so I'm always lost and winging it. You'll find everything you need from expensive taste to budget wear. Examples of stores: apparel, shoes, home, department, electronics, camera, flower, pharmacy, jewelery, craft and specialty.. all of it! Parking is easy to find. read more

There's absolutely nothing in this mall for me anymore. There's only two stores in the mall that offer plus size clothing - Reitman's and The Bay - neither of which have much of a collection. The only unique option in the food court is Koryo, but it was shut down this weekend for a massive cockroach infestation :( Even though I used to go there quite often when I lived on the southside, I still find it incredibly difficult to navigate. Southgate isn't the kind of place I recommend visiting in December, but then again I don't recommend visiting any mall in December (not if you can help it). That being said if I'm gonna go to a traditional indoor shopping mall then Southgate is my top pick. It's mostly a convenience factor (I like Kingsway too, but I live closer to the south side). The mall is older, I think 25 or 30 years old, but they've don't a lot of renovations in the past 5 years so everything looks new and bright. Southgate has a nice amount of stores, not too many, and I can usually find what I'm looking for when I come here. There are some higher end stores like Michael Kors, and the Apple Store (well high end depending on what you by) to your run-of-the-mill Canadian mall standards like The Bay and Sears. There are also a few stores here that are great to go to because for me it means avoiding a trip to WEM or going downtown (I love downtown, but I don't love driving/parking downtown). So yes it's great I can buy my makeup at Sephora here instead of going to WEM or going to Evoolution (delicious artisan olive oils and vinegars) instead of having to go downtown or to St. Albert. One of my favourite things about Southgate is the food court. It's open, and can be a bit loud, but it's got a decent fast food selection from Koryo (Korean) to Opa (Greek). I also love how environmentally friendly Southgate is...they've got bins for recycling, trash, and they even have drains so you can pour out your beverage down the drain instead of dumping it in the trash. There's even a separate spot to put the utensils. The other high point of Southgate, as strange as it might seem are the washrooms by the food court (well the ladies at least, can't speak for the men's). Why? Because the washroom stalls are huge (seriously you could probably get 4 people in there), they have a heavy wooden door, and when the door is locked it goes from a green vacant to a red occupied. I wish all public bathrooms did that, instead of playing the knock-to-check-and-see-if-someone-is-in-the-bathroom-stall game. The bathroom stalls also have a a big purse ledge for you put your purse/bags on. And when you go to use the sinks after you're done there is a automatic paper towel dispenser in front of every sink. No waiting in line to dry your hands. Score. Regarding parking it can get busy here, but I usually find the parking lot is pretty decent, particularly if you go to the upper level there's usually always spots there (maybe not right before Christmas). Southgate is also on the LRT line (right after Century Park) so it's convenient if you take transit. Just know Southgate isn't park and ride, so if you park here and take the lrt you could get a ticket (yeah they check that). One thing that is a little weird about Southgate is the layout. It's a mall that was just designed a bit weird, but it's not a big mall and easy to figure out. It can get busy, but it doesn't have the insane crowds that WEM does. I don't frequent Southgate too much but I recently stopped in to have a look. It was a weekday morning and I was surprised to find quite a few older and younger shoppers inside. I went into a pop up shop and browse and then to a few of my regular stores include Bath and Body Works because one can never look at the newest scents for bath and body products. With a leg injury, I paid attention to the seating and they are great. There's quite a few couches and chairs around the mall to have a sit. They must know that sometimes shoppers come with non shoppers and they want to sit and wait while looking at their phones. The washrooms in the mall are also clean when I have used them even if busy. I still can get confused on which corridor I should go to reach certain stores or entrances but somehow walking around in circles, I eventually make it to the way I want to go. Not my go to mall close to home, but don't mind going when I'm around. read more

Southgate has been my mall of choice because it's on the south side. It's not crazy busy, like West Edmonton Mall and I love that. I hate fighting crowds! I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the new renovations. Yes, the mall looks nicer - but only in that area. I don't usually go down the newly renovated part of Southgate because I don't shop at those stores. They are all overpriced! I don't like get taken for my money so I stick to what I know. The new food court is pretty sweet though. All of the good places stayed, and they brought in some new food too! I always shop at Southgate, it has everything I need. read more

When a friend of mine who was visiting Edmonton last year asked if she could meet me at Southgate, I was hesitant. The last time I was here the lighting was dim, there were few stores, and maybe a handful of places to eat. I agreed, and when I arrived, I got a huge surprise. The place had been completely renovated and was virtually indistinguishable from the way it was. I even had to ask directions to get to the food court. There were loads of shops, and the food court was much larger with far more choices. I don't come here often because there are other shopping choices closer to where I live, but I certainly would head here if I had a reason. read more

This mall is one of the brighter, better maintained and newer looking malls indoors in Edmonton ever since their renovation a few years ago. I really like their washrooms in the food court for example, and the diversity of stores. I especially like how easy it is to access ever since the LRT station opened here -- until the LRT got to this part of town, I was very unlikely to visit this mall, prefering Kingsway, but now it's a much more likely place for me to visit. The food court is a great place to meet folks for a casual meet up or to relax after a few hours of shopping. Other things that make this mall great are the Apple Store, the LEGO store, the Ghost Armor kiosk, The Science Store, MAC cosmetics, the department stores and grocery store, and of course the myriad of clothing and food options. This mall is also really well lit with skylights and well placed seating areas, which are particularly convenient if you're waiting for another person in your party to arrive or finish shopping or if you simply need to rest before heading off on your next adventure. read more

This is probably the second best mall next to West Edmonton Mall. Mainly because it has less stores and no theme park or water park. However, this mall got extended recently and they have done a good job. They added a few more stores and made the food court bigger. It looks a bit fancier now but still does not have the variety of West Ed. This is my favourite shopping centre in Edmonton. It's not quite 5 stars (the addition of some more high-end, as well as staple chains like H&M, would put it up there) but it is definitely close. I love that it is not gigantic; that it has most everything you could need, from the Apple Store, the best Hudson's Bay in the city, awesome furniture/home stores like Restoration Hardware and Crate & Barrel, make-up must-haves Sephora and Mac, lovely children's stores such as Laugh & Learn and the Lego store, fashion from Micheal Kors and BCBG, Bath & Body Works and Rocky Mountain Soap Co. and on, and on. Parking is always abundant. They have an LRT Station to whisk you downtown and to the stadiums. The mall is always clean, they have really nice, new, well taken care of bathrooms. If you need a high end spa their is an Evelyn Charles and for low end nails and waxing there is a place too. And I also love that there is a Safeway. You can go do some shopping, pick up groceries and you are good to go! Even if I didn't live on the South side, I would make the drive to make this my go-to mall read more

The continual harassment of customers and mall tenant employees by the company you've hired to manage the parking situation at Southgate Centre has made it one of the worst places in Edmonton to go shopping. Here's the problem... Why would the parking enforcement team at DPS write that they watched me "walk off" the property at 12 (noon) when I was physically in mall shopping beginning at 10am? Essentially Southgate Centre has hired a company that is lying and cheating and harrassing its tenants and their customers. The explanation Southgate Centre management gave was that the "Park'n'Ride" facility at the Century Park LRT station would be closing in 2016 putting pressure on parking at Southgate. This "fact" however is false. The Park'n'Ride facility will be moving to the northeast side of the Century Park site to allow for construction of new residential buildings. This will actually result in more parking than is currently found at Century Park. Southgate Centre's inability to manage their parking situation shouldn't become the problem of it's tenants, their staff or their customers. Get your act together Southgate Centre and DPS... And it's probably good if you actually have your facts straight before you make up a story. Pathetic. read more

There's a wide variety of stores at this mall to cater to all budgets and ages. This makes Southgate a great place for Christmas shopping, especially with all the vendors that come in the winter. The only complaint I have is that the food court is ridiculously loud. read more

I remember this mall when it was one corridor with a central fountain that used to shoot up to ceiling and there was a Woodwards where the Safeway is now (they used to load your groceries into your car for you from a special lane you drove up to). There were some lost years when the Woodwards closed, but unlike the disaster that is Westmount Mall, Southgate has found a real identity for itself. Clearly, they have set out to be come the fashion destination for south Edmonton. The expansion to three corridors and targeting specific retailers like Michael Kors, Khiels, Coach, Fossil and Bench to compliment older tenants like the Gap, Birks, Eddie Bauer and American Eagle carves out a nice niche in the middle fashion market. Now with the addition of the Apple store and Restoration Hardware make it the destination shopping stop on the south side. Safeway rounds out the mix to make it a great one-stop option for the young professional crowd. There's not a lot for kids, but that's not what they're aiming for. It's a stop for the dual income, no kids crowd. It's actually nice to see a mall that's focussed on targeting a market for retail business and not flailing away with movie theatres and other non-sense that just increase foot traffic at the expense of a nice shopping experience. read more

This mall has nothing about jewellery stores in it. The mall offers nothing since HMV went under. The only other decent store there is is EB Games and maybe one or two clothing stores. But other than that the mall is completely boring. They need to offer more interesting stores like WEM. Get a Hot Topic, or a record store in there. Make it interesting. read more

Southgate is definitely my favourite mall in Edmonton. It's bright, well-decorated, and the perfect size. I even like the food court (which is rare for me). Normally I'm grossed out by the smell of all the food and grease, but Southgate's court must be especially well ventilated. The variety of stores is one of the most important factors for me when determining how much I like a mall. Southgate really excels in this area. It has higher-end clothing/accessory stores like Michael Kors, BCBG, and Coach, and more affordable places like the Gap or Smart Set. I also LOVE that it has both a standalone MAC store and a Sephora. Another thing I love is that this mall has a grocery store (Safeway) attached to it. I stop by the Safeway for a couple items every time I go to Southgate. It's a really convenient feature. I don't know if I'd want to utilize this Safeway regularly for large shopping trips as it's often fairly busy, but it isn't bad if you just have one or two things to pick up. Why not five stars? Southgate is missing some of my favourite shops (e.g. Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, etc.) meaning I still have to venture out to West Ed from time to time. The layout is also somewhat confusing. I've been coming here for more than a year and I still manage to get lost. read more

This southside shopping center is one of the only ones I go to. Of course, it helps that I live on the southside so it seems like a natural choice. I am in the westend a lot as well, but I don't choose West Edmonton Mall. Why? Now that Southgate has undergone extensive renovations it is just as good as WEM. In my opinion at least. Yea, it may not be as large, and it may not have 3 food courts and multiple stores that sell the same things, but it has something that WEM does not have and that is the ability to not cause panic attacks. Southgate center is relatively busy, but I never feel overwhelmed by crowds when I am there (well maybe during the Christmas season, but I am pretty sure this is unavoidable..). I also LOVE the new stores. It is all very high end. They have a coach store now, and finally, a Sephora on the southside. The food court is really nice, it has so many different options for food, and there are even some healthy ones snuck in there. I would recommend anyone go and at least SEE the new expansion. If you can remember what Southgate looked like 10 years ago, and you have a chance to go and see the renovations, do it. The place is somewhat of a masterpiece as malls go. I feel as if I am shopping in a mall in LA when I walk in here! read more

While I admittedly do not spend as much time at Southgate as I do at say Kingsway I still think there is alot of positives in this mall and do enjoy my trips there when I do find the time to head south. While housing mostly high end retailers I do think whether your a man or woman this mall has everything you need to really beef up your wardrobe. There are also places like Stitches and Reitmans if your like me and not prepared to pay for higher end clothing. I also really enjoy hitting the specialty stores like the science shop and groovestone. There are not many places in Southgate that WEM doesn't also offer but having retailers like that combined with less crowds and better parking makes Southgate a more desirable choice for many Edmontonians. The food court here is also a big draw with it's numerous options to choose from and hard working staff that keep the space sparkling clean. Honestly if I was in a higher income bracket and the mall offered more sit down dining options then just State and Main I could easily rank Southgate five stars and drastically cut back on the number of trips I make to WEM. read more

In my opinion, southgate is the best mall in Edmonton. Why? ...... 1.) Size and Variety - it's a great size. Big enough to have great variety, not too big to allow creepy stores to exist. It reminds me a lot of the Westfield mall in Century City (Los Angeles). Well trimmed to a good size. Has some really nice stores here. High-end clothing to medium-to-low end Gap kinda stuff. I agree that Southgate could appear a little classist, in that there aren't any really cheap, bargain places. However, I still insist it's great! David's Tea is a decent tea shop too. 2.) Location: Usually not an important criterion for malls, given that most people drive to a mall, but I really appreciate that it is on the LRT. Most people would remind me, now, that Clareview also has some shopping (on the LRT) and that probably half the buses in Edmonton go to WEM. For me, though, the ease of going by LRT, without traffic hold-ups, is a big plus point. No comments on the ordinariness of Clareview - I guess my views would change if I were a homeowner. 3.) Direct "shuttle" to Southpark Center: Nott at all a place I'd like to go to, but given its proximity, people could easily do the Southgate + Southpark Center route. By car, the great thing about southgate is that it lies close enough to Superstore, Italian Centre shop, Southpark Center, Sunterra etc. 4.) Other nice things: Yeah! Southgate is new, clean, good washrooms, pretty good food court, has a Safeway too. It's almost like a little mall with certain things that could satisfy the weekly needs too. read more

I'm writing this review on the van Gogh exhibit. This was a good display! There were a lot of his iconic pieces of work, had great descriptions and tidbits of information regarding both the painter and of the individual pieces. The price of admission was reasonable and I thought we got our $'s worth. The "gift shop" was also very fairly priced. I bought a beautiful gift, and was half of what I thought it would be. read more

I didn't realize the breadth of stores housed here at Southgate. It really has become a one-stop shopping centre with the addition of a ton of great stores (hello, Michael Kors!) and a recent renovation to add a more modern look the whole building. (Along with that came the addition of these cool electronic mini-towers, that look like they might be directories, but aren't.) I still find the layout confusing, but sometimes that can be a bonus, like when I discover a new store for the first time. (Fossil? Have you been here the whole time?) Don't skip the food court, either. Cool mix of fast food in here (most of it unhealthy, though!), from Greek to Chinese to Italian. I haven't tried to the Korean BBQ yet, but the pictures, at least, make the food look delicious! read more

Southgate is a good sized mall with a variety of different stores in it. The food court is also awesome and it has a good spread of food types. Beware of walking by Cinnzeo when they are making their buns fresh... It's almost impossible to resist buying. Be careful of the floors by the Crate & Barrel, Sephora, Zara area. They are insanely slippery. I honestly cannot tell you how many times I've almost wiped out just trying to walk across there. It's worse than the bananas in Mario Kart. read more

In general, I hate malls. I avoid them at all costs. Unfortunately, there are some stores that are only located in malls, and those stores don't always have good home shipping deals, so I have no choice but to walk into a mall. When I do go to a mall, I do try to avoid busy times like weekday evenings or weekends, but sometimes that's not always possible. The main thing I hate about malls is people walking really slowly -- and suddenly stopping -- right in the middle of the hallway. Thankfully, I have learned to breathe through these annoyances, most of the time! PROs: Southgate, thankfully, is actually a really nice mall. I find it to be bright, clean, open, and accommodating for all types of 'shoppers.' I like that it has lots of places to sit. And I like that it has wifi. Their corridors are wide and open, with only a little bit of clutter, so it's fairly easy to weave in-between the slow people. It also has a modern look, and is maintained nicely, so it doesn't look rundown like some other malls in Edmonton. The food court bathrooms are amazing! CONs: The transit centre is located in an awkward place beside the mall, with awkward access to the mall. Why there isn't a 2nd floor walkway from the LRT, I'll never understand. The food court has a good selection, but the tables are setup such that it's impossible to walk a straight line towards anything. While they have wifi, it's slow and often unresponsive. read more

Southgate is a really great mall, but I don't get to come here very often, since I live way on the northside, and I don't have a car. I kind of feel like it's the rich-person's mall, since the mall seems kind of fancy with it's electronic mall directories. I actually find this directory cool (I love the little footprints that show up on the screen to show you where you need to go), but I also find it slightly confusing. It would be faster just to read the old kind of directory. I also like that this mall is just one floor (except for the offices and other services upstairs). I find that it's not so confusing then, and I'm not wondering if I'm on the right floor or not. It's also neat, because the mall is like one big square. The Bay at this mall is great. It's rather large, and they have lots of great stock. I was recently here to look at winter coats, and their selection was at least four times bigger than the selection at Londonderry Mall. I also like the Coles store here, because it's like a mini Chapters. There's a Starbucks inside! The food court is great too. They have a small, but good selection of food places, like Taco Time, A & W, The Extreme Pita, and Sukiyaki (kind of like Edo). The court is rather dim, which I like, because it's nice to sit and eat without bright lights shining into your eyes. I really like the seats too, because they are round and large (so your bum stays comfortable). There's some pretty cool stores here too, like Laura Secord (the only one left in the whole city), The Science Shop, GAP, and MAC Cosmetics. The store selection makes this a great mall to go shopping, but every time I come here, it's busy. I was here last Friday afternoon, and the parking lot was full. I can't imagine what it's like on a Saturday. read more

Southgate Mall caters to a different demographic than West Ed. It has a Lego store which is very unique and a Crate and Barrel, also unique. There may be some other exclusive stores too. They also have State and Main which is now also at Windermere. Lrt access is nice for those that don't drive. For men they have a number of stores, not a giant selection, but the Bay is probably the best in the City. One very unique feature they have is a concierge and also the Southgate stylist program where you can make a two hr appointment with a professional stylist, I select Brittanee and have the glamorous experience of finding that special outfit or a whole new wardrobe the cost is a donation to a great charity called suit yourself and there is no pressure to buy since there is no commission! You just have to try this great experience. They often have appreciation events too. Southgate was also recently renovated so it feels a lot newer than other malls and has an elegance about itm It can get quite busy but most people are there to buy and not loiter, which helps move things along. The food court has a decent array of food and overall this is a great mall with lots of shops and a pleasant atmosphere. Parking is generally not too unreasonable. read more

Southgate is one of the best malls in the city, I find. It's my second favourite mall in the entire city because it's got some great stores and selection. I don't think too many people come here though, because it's all the way on the south side, and for most of the local population that's far. But for those of us who do live on this side of town, it's great. And being in the south, it's one of the newer malls in Edmonton as well. They have some unique stores that you can only find here, like the Science Shop and RW&Co. Other stores include Sears, The Bay, Gap, American Eagle, Stokes, and Lord's Shoes. You'll also find many services here, from medical and dental to banking and hair salons. They have major hair salons here like Hennessy and Eveline Charles. There's also a Safeway attached to the mall. While they don't have much in terms of mall entertainment like West Ed does, they still offer a lot for shopping. There's a mix of high end brand stores with more affordable shops for those who don't want to spend too much. It's all about the shopping here at Southgate. They're undergoing some huge renovations right now, since the city is planning on expanding the LRT and connecting it to Southgate. Needless to say, the roads outside the mall are currently a big mess, and they recently moved the bus terminal across the street, closer to the mall. It's a bit frustrating right now, but I'm sure it's going to be great when it's all done. And then everyone, not just south-siders, will be able to enjoy Southgate! read more

Easily the second-best mall in Edmonton behind West Ed. The place was recently renovated and is looking much better than it did a few years ago. They've added a bunch of new stores and redesigned the environment to feel more vibrant than before. Hmm, maybe they did it so we would spend more money? Well, it definitely worked. I always get the sense that the mall sets itself as the go-to mall for fashion and clothing. Maybe it has something to do with the huge billboards with fashion models plastered outside. That a good thing though: it seems to be the only mall in Edmonton with its own personality. If you live in the South and don't feel like driving all the way to West Ed, then Southgate will definitely suit your shopping needs. Its never really crowded (unlike West Ed.) either, and always seems to have to right amount of people. Guys: the better-looking Edmonton girls seem to hang out here a lot. Thank me later. read more

Always thought of Southgate as the 'cool' mall. The south has always been the richer half of Edmonton and maybe Southgate reflects this by having great stores for people that love to spend money. I dive straight for Restoration Hardware because I would like to believe I could buy a $7,000 bed frame without a sense of guilt or financial repercussions. Crate and Barrel is another favourite. Southgate boasts an impressive men's clothing section at the Bay. It's large with a mix of brands and style to suite whatever you want to spend. It reminds me much of the downtown Calgary Bay in terms of selection, it's on that kind of par. Overall it's a good mall. However, given the choice, WEM is more my cup of tea because there is just more variety. Good place to people watch. read more

I have a long and sordid history with this mall. I went to high school across the street from it, and spent far too much time loitering there. A few years after high school, I ended up working there, and even managed to suffer a rather serious injury while employed. As such, I've seen the mall in each of it's incarnations - in the early 90's, it was a dark, somewhat depressing place. Actually, that's what made it so appealing as a place to loiter while skipping class. In the late 90's, they did a fairly extensive renovation, turning the mall into more of a family-oriented shopping experience. Now, after the latest renovation, it truly is a first class shopping center. While I wouldn't be shopping at 95% of the clothing stores in this mall, I do like having The Bay, Sears, and the Apple store all in one place that isn't WEM. read more

I have a store I look after in this mall an I find that half of this mall is pleasant...the other half however, not so much! The new section of this mall including the bus station is very nice and classy. The food court is huge and pleasant to be in. Lots of selection to chose from and lots of great seats with tvs to preoccupy your brain. The second half of the mall leaves a taste in your mouth that is not to be desired which unfortunately takes away from the entire mall. The lrt is very convenient being right outside the mall. The parking is also plentiful and is very easy to access coming in from any direction to the mall. -1.5 for the old section of the mall -.5 for having a grocery store attached to it as this takes away from the overall outer appeal of the mall read more

I grew up near Southgate and it has been (and still is) my favorite mall. They have large department stores like The Bay and Sears, specialty stores like Crate & Barrel, Apple and Restoration Hardware, to grocery, pharmacy and an abundance of various clothing purveyors that it is truly a one stop shopping experience. The mall is always clean, parking can be a bit nutters on weekends but I have never seen the third story of the parade completely filled up. The food court has a lot of options, the mall has WiFi, and they have wonderful seasonal decorations. Visit if you haven't; much better than the insanity that is WEM. read more

Definitely my mall of choice, mainly due to location. I like the southside of Edmonton best in general, and this mall is only 15 minutes from my house. It always feels clean and airy inside, never swamped with people. It feels very new inside. Recently, Southgate has expanded and now has many more stores that I enjoy. They also have many high-end stores. There is rarely a store that I need, that I can't find here. Also, it is a nice medium size, making it easy to navigate and walk around. This is in my opinion is the prettiest cleanest best mall in Edmonton. Really nice clothes shops for men and women luxury salons and spas within all under one roof. With body care from natural soaps to the body shop to MAC and Sephora. It has a decent food court and one restaurant state and main which is nice but another restaurant and bar would be nice to have to offer!! read more

Lots of stores and there are many options to chose from. If you get hungry there is also a cafe with really good food. Prices are usually reasonable. There are also coffee shops. It's a little hard to figure out but only because it's so big. read more

This is a very good mall. It isn't too busy like West Ed but it has all the stores you're looking for.
