Southgate has been my mall of choice because it's on the south side. It's not crazy busy, like West Edmonton Mall and I love that. I hate fighting crowds! I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the new renovations. Yes, the mall looks nicer - but only in that area. I don't usually go down the newly renovated part of Southgate because I don't shop at those stores. They are all overpriced! I don't like get taken for my money so I stick to what I know. The new food court is pretty sweet though. All of the good places stayed, and they brought in some new food too! I always shop at Southgate, it has everything I need.

This is a very good mall. It isn't too busy like West Ed but it has all the stores you're looking for.

Although there isn't a huge selection of stores, the quality of the mall as a whole is much better than WEM.

I have lived close to Whyte Ave all of the time I have lived in Edmonton. Whyte Ave is one of the hottest destination spots in the City. It is host to some cool and unusual shops: Great restaurants and nightclubs/bars. Quirky shops. The Farmers Market, A great library in a historical building, Host to many great festivals and events, and so much more. Whyte Ave is also always evolving which makes it vibrant and fun. If you want to know what is happening on Whyte Ave and in the area check out the Old Strathcona Business Association website and event calendar. You can also see what sales are going on and maybe even find a job! http://www.oldstrathcona.ca/

There are lots of great stores (some of which are pretty unique too!) and restaurants. It's a colourful place with an interesting crowd depending on what else is going on in the area. I've been here for parties, festivals, special events, theatre and more! It is quite popular with the university student crowd. That said, it's imperfect: some of what makes it awesome is also what causes issues: it's a pretty popular place with the late night crowd and can get very busy/crazy on occasion. Additionally, these events/festivals can cause trash and whatnot. It's busy enough that parking can be limited and transit from downtown is sometimes awkward. But it's a great destination to reach on foot. And there is reasonably good transit to this area. I definitely recommend a visit, particularly during the summer months.

The outdoor side of things is pretty standard with a Walmart, Winners, Dollarama and Ardene's etc. I come here quite a bit to pick up some shopping but never consider it a mall. The indoor part is hard to find, I was driving around and around trying to find the library! The day I went inside was Sunday and was delighted to see a mini farmers market on the go. It's really small but it has all the things you go to the larger markets for. I was impressed and will head there on a Sunday for my vegges instead of venturing to Whyte Ave and scrambling for parking! I heard form my last visit to Edmonton Public Library that they will be closing this location down so I wonder what will happen to this remaining building after they move out?

I had never been before Friday so I had no idea what I was in form. While WEM is famous, Kingsway is a secret gem, and Southgate is gaining fame as a great mall too, Capilano has been left behind. The "food court" only has 4 or 5 food options and few tables. The most on-trend womens' clothing store is Smart Set, which, while not bad, is never my first choice. I came for a massage at Makami College located in the mall, but I didn't take too much time to stick around post-rub. Not much to see here, folks.

The mall is the old style of one long line of stores but it does offer a decent selection of stores and there's also a bowling alley in the basement too which is fun if you need a break from shopping! Since they were full of volunteers, we had some time to kill before going back. We went to a few stores including HMV (found some great deals with gift merchandise marked down), Carlton Cards, and Shoppers Drug Mart. There's not much for women's clothing stores though, but there seems to be a good number of jewelry stores. They also have kiosks and vendors in the middle of the mall who are selling their goods. We ate in the food court and not a lot of selection but there's always available seating and it's clean as I see the staff wiping tables and taking away trays. There are also anchor stores including Safeway and Sears. Upstairs of the mall there are a few organizations that have their offices here so you can go to a meeting and shop in the same place! Not a mall that I'll find everything I'm looking for, but has some good shops that I can find some good buys.

Deals can be good if you search long and hard enough. I'm not a shoe person myself but there are plenty of ladies looking around here, just saying . Washrooms if you need a break from shoe wearing. For guys there is benches to sit at almost each aisle, so if you need a break i'd take it. Don't get me wrong there do sell shoes for kids as well. It also is an outlet store so they have a few designer shoes but nothing too expensive or extreme. Staff is friendly and helpful. Parking is massive so you won't have trouble parking here. Recommended for ladies who love shoes more than men but there are shoes for everyone.

Maybe I could skip the mall?? While I have been to other DSW locations, I had no idea this one existed. Before we get too into this review, I should mention that I REALLY love shoes. I recently did a substantial purge of my collection and even still, mine rivals Imelda Marcos' (if you're a shoe fiend, give her a quick google. You won't be disappointed). I have a problem, but I digress. Today I was on a mission: I needed a pair of neutral pumps... and maybe some ankle boots... and maybe some brown knee-high boots... and maybe... This store is massive! I tried to go up and down all of the aisles but I'm sure I managed to miss something. The selection here is very good and quite well-rounded. You can get some decent deals on higher-end women's shoes (think Nine West at 20% regular price) and you can get even better deals on the lower-end. I ended up trying on at least 5 different pairs of beige pumps before deciding on a favourite, but alas they did not have my size in stock. They did offer to order them in for me but I wasn't that attached an ended up settling for my 2nd favourite. I also took a good look at the boots to see if anything caught my eye. This section was a little less exciting. The selection wasn't great and most of the brands are lower-end. I'd prefer to try and get something higher quality on sale elsewhere. They did have some great deals on Sorels and Cougars though but not in styles that I was looking for. I ended up resisting temptation and passing on the boots. The back of the store features a large clearance section. A friendly sales associate let me know that everything on clearance was an additional 20% off. Score! Again though, nothing really caught my eye. When I was at the checkout, I was excited to find out that the shoes I had chosen were actually an extra 40% off. Great news for me! Overall I was very pleased with my visit to DSW. It's definitely the kind of place I would check out if I am looking for something specific as they have a well-rounded selection and reasonable prices.
