West Edmonton Mall, owned and operated by the Triple Five Group--the family enterprise founded by the Ghermezian brothers who originally developed it--is a landmark destination in Edmonton. Opened in 1981, it was the largest indoor shopping mall in the world until 2004. Today, it ranks as the second largest shopping mall in North America by square footage, behind Minnesota's Mall of America, and is approximately the 29th largest worldwide by gross leasable area. WEM remains the largest mall in the Americas by total area and boasts the highest store count in the Western Hemisphere with over 800 stores. Its rich history and vast variety of stores and entertainment options make it a wonderful destination for families and shoppers alike. Personally, I cherish memories from my first year living in Edmonton during Christmas 1984, when my sister, now in heaven, visited me. The mall has evolved since then, notably no longer housing live dolphins or animals due to ecological concerns. The entertainment options, including a magnificent year-round pool that lets you imagine being in Mexico without leaving Edmonton, add to the mall's unique charm. Whether you're shopping or enjoying family-friendly attractions, West Edmonton Mall offers an exceptional experience that blends history, scale, and community spirit.

West Edmonton Mall certainly has a lot going on. From a huge pirate ship to penguins, an amusement park, skating ring, hotel, restaurant, car dealerships, and an indoor water park... a lot to grasp and definitely overwhelming to say the very least. Not much to say regarding the service.

west edmonton mall, a place so massive, it's easy to forget everything packed inside. pretty sure i've reviewed it before, but here we go again. it's more than just shopping, there's an amusement park, a waterpark with slides, a wave pool with zip lining, a pirate ship, swan pedal boats, and an ice skating rink. there's even a hotel, casino, bowling alley, dinner theatre, a shooting range, and a dog daycare with a park. shopping wise, there's everything from high end luxury (gucci, balenciaga, saint laurent, tiffany & co) to staples like simons, h&m, winners, sephora, and uniqlo. and of course, t&t, a must stop. you can even shop for bridesmaids and prom dresses, though most formal gown boutiques require you to remove your shoes upon entering. themed areas add to the experience, like bourbon street for dining and europa boulevard, with its colourful european style buildings. scattered throughout the mall are unique art installations, including lifelike figure skaters suspended in motion and a large humpback whale sculpture. would you believe there's even a toyota car dealership inside?! with over 800 stores, you could spend an entire day here and still not see everything. thankfully, there are plenty of places to sit when you need a break. and with only one tax, it's retail therapy at its finest.

Amazing mall. It's massive and great place to shop or unwind. Canada is truly impressive and the people are very hospitable.

$90 for USED FOOD that looked like a BAD EPISODE OF NAILED IT at West Edmonton Mall Waterpark?! Booked a Poolside Plus Cabana on Aug 13. Our "small charcuterie box" arrived with more than half the grapes already picked from the stem and shoved back on the platter -- looked like it had been eaten or handled by someone else. We reported it immediately. Staff did nothing. Told us to call the vendor ourselves. Took 24 hours for management to respond, and when they finally did, they debated the number of grapes instead of acknowledging the sanitation issue. For $90, I expect food that hasn't been pre-tasted. Absolutely unacceptable. This completely ruined our cabana experience. #WestEdmontonMall #WEM #WaterparkFail #FoodSafetyFail

It is a huge Mall and they keep it very clean. Because of it's large size they need more directories so you can figure out were to go. Tried to locate washrooms on the digital directory I did find and it would not show me. I mane it could take an hour to find one of you just wonder around looking. There is an amusement park and a water park inside and both were fun especially for the kids. There is also an; indoor high speed go-kart track for older kids and adults. Plenty of free parking. We also stayed at the attached hotel and also another(part of the mall group) across the street.

This is galaxy land it is a very affordable and there is a lot of kid friendly rides I love this place there is place for kids and adults

I love this mall so much there is so much things to do in there, there is a big amusement park there is a a lot of major clothing brand stores there is a big food court and a big and fancy hotel and also the price for everything is very affordable, and the selection of stores are very vast and also the service in there is very good so far this has been the best mall I have been in Overall my experience is 5 stars

This mall is awesome! Reminds me of mall of America in Minnesota. Soooo many amazing stores to choose from, and endless selection of coffee shops & restaurants, they even have an indoor water park, rollercoaster area, ice skating rink and more! The staff here were very nice and helpful in every store we stopped through. Canadian people are so kind! I love it here! They have stores that vary from lower end Marshall's, h&m and if you want something more fancy they have Louis Vuitton, Gucci and all the higher end stores you may want. what more do you need in a mall? The food court was impressive- such diverse food from African, Korean, Indian, Pilipino, Japanese, Chinese, Greek and more... just wow! Every mall should be like this place. Clean washrooms, clean mall throughout the entire place. The staff obviously works hard. I wish we had this exact mall in Las Vegas, I would be here every weekend if I could! What a perfect mall. The only challenge I had was finding a way out to the Uber pick up area- the mall closed but restaurants stayed open so once I was done eating I had to walk pretty far to find an actual exit so I could be picked up. Haha but I got some extra steps in at least. This is by far my favorite mall I've ever visited.

Have everything you need. From small stuff, cheap to luxury brands. I came here to meet a friend. Most malls in the whole country are the same. The only difference is this mall have waterpark inside that makes it the biggest mall in Canada

Mall has everything from Dollar stores, drug stores, mid-class to high-end shopping , casino, movies, Toyota dealership... my gosh you just need the $$$$ to enjoy everything including buying bags or bring you own for everything including for McDonalds food.. expect to pay deposits for each plastic bottle purchases but goods tax is only 5%... just some thoughtful insights for you when you want to visit WEM...

Vacation in Edmonton? Yes, my wife and daughter made me go to the West Edmonton Mall not once, but, twice during our recent vacation. Yes, we have our share of malls in Southern California. But, none of them can compare to the size of the WEM. At 3.8 million sq ft, the WEM mall easily beats South Coast Plaza and their measly 2.7 million square feet. You want shopping? They got it! They have all sorts of shops from high end retailers to stores like Dollarama. Restaurants? They have restaurants from fast food, to sit down fancy restaurants. You can even be like me and bring your stash from Dollarama into the Halley's Club without getting a snarky attitude from the staff. You need entertainment? This mall has an ice skating rink, a replica of the ship, the Santa Maria, an amusement park, movie theaters and a water park. If you need something more adult, they have a casino and casino related restaurants for you. Let's not forget your Asian groceries from T&T Market. It's Dynomite! My parents and in-laws definitely would stop at T&T, but, you would never find me in there as long as I am on vacation. They even have the Fantasyland Hotel here if you don't want to drive back home or to your hotel. Edmonton people are so nice! My daughter left her brand new iPhone in the bathroom stall of the Hudson Bay Department Store. What was she doing with the phone in the stall, I don't know. But someone found the phone and gave it to lost and found. If she left the phone in a bathroom stall in California, the phone would never be returned. It's ginormous, and is larger than any other mall I've been to. Even though we went there twice, I know there are places that we missed. Why do I have to go shopping while on vacation?

The selection of items is impressive. This is a discount variety/dollar/warehouse store. They have many items you would find in a large big box store but at lower prices. They have clothes, food, home decor, tools, office supplies and more! The store is tidy and well organized. It's also fairly straightforward to figure out what each aisle contains. I found a True Religion T shirt for my toddler for $9. A 6 pack of toddler socks for $6. A 3 pack of baby socks for $1.50. My mom bought many cans of coconut milk for $1 each. I saw Starbucks coffee grounds and brand name cereals. They have some good stuff if you have the time and patience to look around. The items are new with tags. However, not all the items here are in perfect condition so you do need to make sure your item doesn't have a flaw you can't live with. You can find some pretty low priced items that would be fine condition for gifts. This is a new location that moved from another location nearby. After shopping for a while I had to go to the bathroom, I asked if I could use the washroom and was told no. I know they have washrooms as we have used them in the past but not anymore. I had to leave the store and went to Shoppers and they kindly let me us there washroom's. I returned to Marshalls and found what I needed and went to the till to pay, I mentioned to the clerk that it was very disturbing that they don't offer washrooms to the shoppers, especially seniors, she was very understanding and understood my concerns. She wanted me to speak to a manager I said no, but she called her anyways. The manger came and told me that its a company policy, which I mentioned that the Red Deer branch offers a washroom so why wouldn't they, I then said I probably would not shop there again as it was a huge concern for me to not be able to use the washrooms. Then another manager person came to the till and decided to put me in my place, he told me he would tell me the store perspective and I said no thanks I just want to pay for my stuff and that I would not be back. He then continued to tell me his story, and I said I still would need to use the washroom, he got aggressive with me so I then said I had enough so f--K this, asked for may card back and I was leaving, not to return. He followed me to the door, making a big seen for all to see and hear, he badgered me all the way to the door, even after I asked to please stop he continued. Their craft section is a bit small (which is expected given that they're not a dedicated craft store) but they have a fair bit of stuff, and it's easily comparable to what you'd find at places like Michael's. I was impressed by that :) They also have some rather nice stationery & cards. Also, they do bulk orders as well, which is pretty cool (I didn't end up needing to do this cos it turns out they actually had 20+ bags of craft moss on hand, but I did call to ask in advance & they do it for people). I like they have a large Petite section as well. I went on an early morning so it didn't seem there were many sales people. I decided on a suit and went to pay. I was returning a top, so she had to get the manager to ring in my sale. When I was in the line up, I saw at least 2 other sales staff on the other side of the store who were standing around. It would have been nice if I received some service while in the fitting room. For a top, pants, and suit jacket it was just over $200 which is quite reasonable for something I know will last years to come. In this shopping experience the price was good but the service wasn't. It seems to be the trend these days.
