Down home cuisine. Was there on a Sunday morning and there was a line when I got there. Great food in a family environment.

The staff here are amazing! Very kind and patient. There are several items that are cooked fresh and you're able to pick a meat and two sides , and make customizations. After we ordered, we chose to eat inside. This places gets a lot of foot traffic and is definitely a local fav! Unfortunately, for us, only the chicken tasted like it had some good flavor to it, everything else looked good, but was missing something. I'd still go back and try again, there seems to be a rotating menu. I will say that the chicken is delicious! It has to be their specialty. We tried almost every available chicken options the day we went except for the baked version. For two plates and two drinks, we paid about $35. And they were not light on the portions! We've eaten at this local gem a few times over the years, and it never disappoints. Today, my preschooler and I stopped in for breakfast and shared the 2-meat plate--cheese grits, scrambled eggs, a fluffy biscuit, bacon, and sausage--and it was absolutely delicious. The grits, which are surprisingly hard to get right, might be the best I've ever had. The bacon was perfectly crispy, the biscuit was soft and fresh, and there was more than enough for both of us to share. The vibes here are like having breakfast at your favorite auntie's house--warm, relaxed, and full of love. There's even a TV in the corner with gentle background noise, which somehow just completes the whole experience. Our server was so kind and patient, taking time to explain the options and make us feel welcome. We stumbled across Southern Kafe on 17 after a nice stroll at the Guyton Summer Sale Along. The food was delicious and the selection was great. Everything was freshly made and ready to plate. The service was great at the order counter. While we were dining, the owners came out to thank customers for dining with them. I loved that came out to the dining room area to check on folks. Lots of regulars came in while we were dining. Families brought in other family members visiting from out of town. Right off I could tell that Southern Kafe is a cozy, local staple. Can't wait to return! They serve oxtails, Brunswick stew, greens, creamed corn, yams, chicken baked and fried, macaroni and cheese, and so much more delicious soul food favorites, and lots of cake! read more

Road tripping, as we are, requires stopping at a place and eating when it looks like it might be great. In this case it WAS SO GREAT. Had ribs, mac-n-cheese and and collards for one order and fried chicken, dirty rice (I hope that's what they call it in Ga.) and creamed corn for the other order. I had one bite of the perfect-smoked-pink rib and made embarrassing happy noises. Mac-n-cheese was very "family recipe" and SO good. Collards tender, fried chicken moist and outstanding and creamed corn sweet and creamy. We've been eating "traditional southern food" for about a week now and I actually wanted to stay until four p.m. when the next selections became available. Oxtail on Sundays. We stopped here for a quick bite on the way back to Atlanta. Food and service was great and the price was great!

My husband and I have driven by the location a few times, but were never sure if they were open. There's also a "masks required" sign on the front so we never went in. The sign is obviously from the beginning of COVID days and just never took it down . Don't let it stop you! Firstly, the portions are massive. Like 3 meals massive. The food is laid out typical cafeteria style where you tell them what you want and they plate it. I ordered the ox tails and my husband ordered the meatloaf. The ox tails were soooo tender and flavorful. I was in heaven on the first bite! The greens were cooked well and they had pepper vinegar sauce to put on it which added my typical preference of a more vinegary taste. The peach cobbler is outstanding and I'm not a peach cobbler fan. Very flavorful without being too sweet and the crust is yummm. 10/10 would recommend. You'll get a couple meals from the one plate! The service is great with the typical southern, small town kindness. We will for sure be repeat customers and I'm excited for the fried chicken! read more

I ordered the rib plate and my husband the crab leg special... everything was cooked perfectly. The ribs came effortlessly off the bone, Mac and cheese southern style, collard greens, just like my momma makes. The crab legs came with 2 clusters and low country boil, made to order. The snap and pull on the clusters were perfect, shrimp came easy out the shell... 10 out of 10 would defiantly recommend. Thank you Tracy and friendly staff for an exceptional meal. We have lived down the road from this place for probably seven years now and somehow this is the first time we've been. Soul food served in a cafeteria style that made it hard to decide what I wanted when practically everything in front of me looked good. My wife got the fried chicken with Mac n cheese and green beans with potatoes. I got the Parmesan wings with creamed corn and green beans with potatoes. The weather hasn't been very nice lately and the A/C was not keeping up, so we got everything to go and headed home. There is plenty of seating if you want to stay and eat. My wife was blown away by the fried chicken and I'm happy to say my fried wings were the best I've had in a long time, maybe ever. This was my first time eating creamed/cream corn NOT out of a can and I loved it. Green beans and potatoes were perfect. Supporting local business is important, but this food experience has made it easy to come back and continue doing that. read more

This is such a great spot for great food and gracious service. The biscuits and gravy are the best I've ever had, and we've been all over the place! I recommend having an order no matter what!! The rest of the food is great and tasty as well. The cafe is clean and the service is outstanding. It's exactly what this community needs - a place that isn't a big commercial machine with good food and good people. Make sure you stop in, say hi, and have a great meal (ESPECIALLY THOSE BISCUITS)! Traditional "meat and two." Today they had BBQ pork, ribs, fried chicken and fried/flavored chicken wings. Sides included Brunswick stew, rice, mac and cheese, greens and creamed corn. Delicious Southern cooking! Fried chicken was very juicy with a good, crispy crust and good seasoning. Mac and cheese was creamy and tasty without being too "wet." The Brunswick stew was light on meat but also delicious with lots of good veggies. Price was excellent for the volume of food. We'll definitely be back! read more

Red Rice was soggy the sausage in the rice was soft. I bit into the parmeasan chicken wing & got a mouth full of grease. Macaroni was dry wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.. terrible food . And they didn't even have peach cobbler my main reason for the visit. read more

Best southern comfort food around! They treat you just as family and are incredibly sweet! They had seasoned chicken that was to die for, so moist and seasoned perfect! Cornbread was one of my favorites as well it tasted like cake! My baby is a very picky eater and was gobbling everything down. I plan to make this a place I take all my visitors. The owner, Tamela & her husband are always willing to help us out whenever we are in need to make a quick decision to order food due to the type of business that we are in, as well as always accommodating our needs for other functions. I even order from here for my own home. We can always count on them to come thru for us. This is great group of people and they serve outstanding food and desserts. A must try place. We were from out of town and stopped here to ask about catering and using their space for a gathering place after a funeral service. It was an odd request for a Saturday before Labor Day and we needed the space on Labor Day. They were so kind - it was Tamela's only day off but she and her husband Tracy agreed to help us out. We took some catfish and shrimp back to the hotel that evening and it was amazing. I knew we made a good choice. It was a difficult time for us and their hospitality and food made it special and hassle free. Everything was set up when our group arrived and the food was excellent. Mac and cheese, fried chicken, baked chicken, cornbread. I'm not a big sweets fan but Tamela made a key lime cake and a peach cobbler and I ate both! Home cooking at it's finest. read more

I hired Southern Kafe on 17 for my wedding catering. When we met for the tasting everything was great I had my menu set and the price decided. Fast forward to my wedding and one of my meat selections was not at my wedding which wasn't an issue mistakes happen. We were just going to discuss it later with the owner. The owner over heard my parents discussing the issue and started yelling at my mom. She took out the contract and waved it in my mom's face while yelling at her. It was a very embarrassing scene for all of us. After my wedding when trying to resolve the issue the owner called me and started yelling at me over the phone about the contract. When I brought in the contract and showed her the contract we had she sat there and was very rude and unprofessional. She did not keep her agreement with the contract and did not give us our money back for the missing entrée. She told us that she didn't charge us for the cake cutting out of the goodness of her heart but then turned around and said that the money we paid over was for the cake cutting and serving. I will never use Southern Kafe on 17 again and anyone who ask me about it I will tell them the truth about how we were treated. It was very unprofessional during my wedding and after. read more

This was our first stop here. The only reason we stopped was because we were waiting for the post office to open. I'm glad we did! The people are friendly and the food is great. Try the fresh sausage and definitely the biscuits! We will be back for sure. read more
