Just happen to be in the area, and being new to Savannah, I depend a lot on Yelp to find places to eat. This was highly rated and close to me so I decided to stop by and boy am I glad I did! This is first rate Jamaican food done really well. I had oxtails a couple of patties, jerk chicken, and carrot cake and everything was on point! I especially loved the oxtail gravy which they poured plenty over my rice and peas and I thought the jerk seasoning was authentic. This is a small spot in a strip mall with a couple of tables so this is mostly a takeout operation. But the young lady that waited on me was very helpful, explaining a lot of of the menu, what was fresh and what the days deals were. Definitely plan on making this one of my go to spots. read more

I'm in town for business about twice a year. I found this place a few years back and I haven't found anything as good as them in the area since. I am from Brooklyn NY but live in California where there are hardly any Jamaican spots in my area. So when I'm in town I make sure to support this place. There are always people there, all kinds and the service is great! It's a nice place to sit down and eat as there are plenty of tables, unlike most places. Now to the food. The Oxtails are a 10/10 but expect to pay $30 Ackee and salt fish 10/10 All flavors of patty 10/10 Sorrel 20/10 Pineapple ginger 20/10 If you want any type of seafood, Bammy or festival you must order in advance. I don't usually care for Jamaican food, as it's usually too spicy for me. But my nail stylist was offering plates for customer service appreciation, so I decided to try it out. The chicken was so tender and flavorful throughout. The first few bites were spicy, but it was bearable. By far the best part was the mac & cheese (not shown). My parents have been here several times whenever they come to visit the Savannah area and this was our first stop after we checked into our hotel. When pulling in, the restaurant is located in a shopping mall next to a Chinese takeout. To be honest, I did not know what to expect from a Jamaican spot in Pooler, GA especially since I lived in South Florida and was surrounded by the flavors of the Caribbean. From first glance, it's clean and has ample seating. We ordered oxtails for my dad, jerk chicken for my mom, and brown stew chicken for myself. Since we were dining in, we did wait for some time for our food. However, we watched as the kitchen staff replaced old rice with new trays, and other menu items. In the meantime, we also ordered jerk chicken patties, coco bread, and a beef patty. Once our food was delivered to our table, my mom went in immediately hence the picture of the eaten chicken lol. When opening up my box, whew the portions are huge - which is how I like my Jamaican spots to be! My brown stew chicken was very moist, flavorful, and freshly cooked. It had that hint of spice, and was covered in that rich stew. I requested for extra gravy on the rice - which was perfectly cooked, subtle flavor of that coconut milk. The cabbage was the highlight for me and went first out of my box. It was steamed very well, swimming in flavor, and chewy. My parents loved their food as well. As far as the patties, the jerk chicken patty was filled with their jerk chicken that was served and had great spice and the chicken was moist. The coco bread was fluffy and had the texture of warm soft potato roll. You have to split the coco bread and put your patty in it to give the balance of the sweet bread with the savory patty. Like landing at John Wayne, SFO or LAX and going straight to In N Out, when landing here at Savannah/Hilton Head airport - you must proceed directly from the rental car parking lot and go straight to Mo'Bay!! The oxtail meal was so, so good, that I got another oxtail meal just for the hotel. The young lady was very inviting and explained what was popular on the menu. The oxtail was very soft and that gravy should come in a jar. I loved the chicken and beef Patties as well. The plantains were sweet and soft and the cabbage had a nice snap. All my years, I've been a big fan of Filipino oxtail (cooked with peanut butter sauce) but I think Jamaican oxtail has moved up to first place. What I really need to do is learn the recipe on YouTube because I do have a slow cooker. Very, very tasty. I was on my way to Savannah last Friday and saw the great reviews for this place and knew I had to get some on my way into town. I called to place an order for carry-out when I was about 20 minutes away and after a few minutes on hold, I was able to get my order placed. It was ready when I arrived. This place is located in a smaller strip mall. There's some seating inside, though not a ton. Bright yellows and greens and Jamaican memorabilia make this place very inviting. There are drink coolers with beverages and you order and pay at the register on the counter. To my surprise, much of the food was in a hot bar on display at the front counter. No big deal or anything - just thought it was interesting. I liked getting a brief glimpse of some of the other yumminess. :) Service was friendly and warm and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Would have been less than five had my card actually agreed with the card machine, but luckily I had cash, lol. I got a medium plate with curry chicken, rice and peas, and macaroni and cheese. It was an ample portion for the money -- two meals for me, easily. Yay for leftovers! The chicken itself was very succulent and fell off the bone. Unlike curry chicken I've had before, this one had a couple of cubes of potato and carrot mixed in, rather than just chicken and curry. I really enjoyed the extra veggies. The rice was fluffy and soft. Little low on the pea ratio but overall yummy, and I'd say mild-moderately spicy. Very much enjoyed it. The macaroni and cheese was good too, though personally, I like mine more with milder cheese. Just a preference thing rather than any actual complaint. I do wish I could've had a slice or two of plantain to round out the experience but I didn't want to add on a third side. Overall, I was very happy with what I got. It was an awesome pick that our friend chose to eat at. Finding good Jamaican food is pretty tough, because some places are just alright. Mo'Bay is a hole in the wall, but the food here was awesome. I ordered the oxtail, and it was great with a side of greens and rice. The rice was flavorful and with the sauce from the oxtail it was *chef's kiss*. The amount of oxtail as well was well portioned and it was fall off the bone tender. I also tried the curry patty, and I have to say it was definitely flavored really well as far as the curry but there wasn't much meat or anything else in there. I may have missed it as I went through that patty really quick. Overall, Mo'Bay is definitely a place you should check out if you're in the area and looking for Jamaican. read more

Well it was my first time at this location and it was easy to find in the little shopping center. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice & peas with Mac and cheese on the side. I did add the jerk sauce to the chicken that was REALLY HOTT (the lady that served me did give me a disclaimer lol) but needless to say despite the level of heat, I ate it cause I was hungry. Born and raised in Brooklyn, we were definitely excited to discover Mo'Bay. We thought we'd have to go back home to get some Caribbean food and while not quite the same there are definitely some winners here. We've had many things from this restaurant but our favorites are the stewed chicken, stewed beef, curry goat, spicy curry rice, mac n cheese, veggie patties, beef patties, and variety of chicken patties. Not a fan of the oxtails, not enough meat and flavor and too much fat. The jerk chicken was also a miss, too much jerk seasoning and the meat was dry. Also not a fan of the fried chicken, not seasoned enough and bland. If you love fresh ginger definitely get the sorrel, it's some of the best I've had. The girl explained it to be similar to a Hawaiian Roll, but Jamaican style. When we got it, I was surprised to see it was a lot bigger and flatter than a Hawaiian roll. It was good and another great item to mop up the sauce! - Kiddos - There isn't a specific kids menu, but there are a variety of things that my kids would eat like Beef Patties, Fried Chicken and all the different sides. Pretty good island food at this location, particularly for the area. There only seems to be two or three people working there so the service is a little bit slow. When I walked in, I wasn't even sure anyone was in because they don't regularly have someone in the front of the building. However, it's understandable as this place seems family run/owned. The food I ordered was very good. I made the mistake of not getting rice, and I think it'd be well worth the extra money just to have a little starch to soak up the juiciness of the sauces. I just asked the lady what the most popular meats were. She told me oxtail and jerk chicken so that is what I ordered with plantains. I prefer the sauce on the jerk chicken, but i think it could stand to be a bit spicier. There wasn't much jerk to it, if you will. I came here with my mother and father n law and we absolutely enjoyed our meals. I planned to take pictures of our meals but it was so good that no one stopped to even take a breath. As a whole we got curry chicken, oxtails and jerk chicken which all had an underlying spice to it that was perfect! The only downfall was that there are not any refillable drinks options and if you take frequent sips throughout your meal like I do then that can be frustrating. For my sides I got plantains and rice and beans which were absolutely delicious. The employees are very friendly and make you feel welcoming. I went with the jerk chicken wrap and a beef patty. When they brought out the food they also gave me a relish they said went well with the jerk. Everything tasted great. While I was eating, it looked like the couple that owned the place came out of the kitchen to watch some TV and talk to the staff. Saw this place on Yelp and it had 5 stars. Yes, it IS 5 stars. You pull into the parking lot and you immediately have doubt. "How could this place be 5 stars?" you ask yourself. Especially with the typical strip mall Chinese place right next door. But we braved it and marched on! As soon as went in, we were greeted warmly and the very nice woman did all she could to help us. She explained the drinks, the foods, the cooking style, options, level of heat etc. We started with the jerk wings and she warned us "they are very spicy". She was right but wow were they delicious. Not for the faint of heart but not unmanageable. Good portion and average sized wings but very tasty. I moved on to the jerk pork with curry rice (spicy) and green beans. The green beans were the only knock. They just seemed like they were out of a can but it did not deter from my overall meal. The jerk pork was the same jerk seasoning as the wings but not nearly as spicy. The woman explained to me that the pork is simmered in the jerk sauce for quite a while so some of the "heat" cooks off. The curry rice had a bite but just enough heat to let you know it was there... not serious heat. Service was off the charts good. Some of the best I have ever experienced.
