Spoon has a deep bowl. A small nitpick.
Kathy J.

Another place on our rotation of casual lunch spots. When it's chilly out, the clam chowder in a toasted bread bowl sits well in my belly. Crispy crusty edges encircle the tasty hot soup. Strong clam flavor, visible clam bits and potatos. There's something wonderfully nostalgic about tearing a hunk of warm sourdough off the bread bowl cap, dunking it into the soup and eating it. We've bought sourdough loaves. Tastes best if they're toasted in their hot oven before taking home. Not a lot of tables here. Can get full easily during lunch hour. Two small tables are outside. Bring a hat if you're sun adverse. There's steady to-go and online orders happening. No iced tea offered of late unfortunately. The AC can be mighty. I try to bring a sweater. If there's music, it's usually guitar strumming rock of 60's or 70's vintage ala James Taylor and other artists I haven't heard in years. Too bad I'm not a fan of Mr. Taylor's music. I've tried. Service is friendly. The establishment clean. Parking is ample in the Lucky's shopping center.

You get what you expect! For a late lunch, I ordered the chicken salad sandwich. The filling was cradled by 2 crunchy yet soft in the inside sourdough buns, paired it with chips and a cup of root beer - yum! The lady in the counter was pleasant and unfazed despite the small crowd - that's service. Inside the cafe, the tall tables and matching chairs will charm you.

Today I ordered the Cholula Chicken Specialty sandwich. The cashier was very friendly and helpful! The store is clean and inviting. Id give the service and the ambiance an A+ Now the sandwich itself wasn't bad! The bread was soft and crunchy. Had a great balance of flavors. Nothing was overpowering. The spice level was a little tame. I suppose my only issue was the value of the sandwich. It was by no means the greatest sandwich ever. Nor was it the biggest. $16 for an 6"sandwich and it didn't have the usual premium ingredients that usually bump the price like bacon or avocado. This was just chicken tomato lettuce and some sauce. I also didn't understand the additional $2 charge for ordering a specialty sandwich. On the menu it stated the Cholula chicken specialty sandwich price for a 6" as $12.99 but I was charged an addition $2 on top of the $12.99 and all it says is special pricing $2. All in all it was an okay experience. There's other sandwich places I'd rather go to but I'm glad I tried it!

This place SMAAAACKS. I'm usually not a sandwich person but this place was so dang good. I had some sort of grilled chicken caramelized onion sandwhich and it was amazing. I don't even like onions but I didn't taste any of that part. It was so good and made me become a sandwhich guy now

Brisket sandwich (plain)

This is my 2nd time getting a sandwich from this location. The first time I had a turkey sandwich and this time I decided to get the brisket sandwich. Comparing the two, I would stick with their deli meats and not get the brisket in the future, it's very thin, almost Shredded slices and not super flavorful. One side of the sandwich did have more meat than the other. The turkey on the other hand was very good, and what you would expect. The star of the sandwich is their bread of course which is delicious. Their prices are a little higher than some other sandwich spots, however I think it's in line with the going rate.

Sandwich and chips

It tasted good, but I had a bad stomachache shortly after eating my sandwich. My boyfriend had the same stomachache after mine started. I'm not sure what the issue is, or if it's a sensitivity to the bread or spread. We got different sandwiches. He got pastrami and I got the peppered turkey. I wanted to like this place. I'm not sure which thing caused the stomach issues.

Variety of sandwiches available. Seems that each sandwich can be customized to one's preference. Good eatery.

Would have loved a little bit more broth to egg noodle ratio but it was delicious nonetheless. Beef with Vermicelli Salad: Delicious! They give a great amount, it was fresh. This place has the usual fair like beef or chicken pho with different variations of meat. As well as Bun Bo Hue which I love but did not try here. My wife also loves Bun Rieu (a type of noodle soup with crab/meat balls). We both didn't order our favorite soups so we can share some light dishes instead. Shredded chicken salad in most Vietnamese places consists of thin shredded cabbage with onions and other thinly sliced veggies to complement the salad. Dressing is vinegar based and it was pretty tasty here. Shrimp chips are provided to use as a vessel for the salad for a crunch. I wish they provided more. Only three shrimp chips were provided for the salad. The tofu skin crispy shrimp cakes are really good. It's a light shrimp cake. I was surprised as I was expecting a dense shrimp cake. The spongy shrimp cake contrasted well with the crispy fried tofu skin that wraps the shrimp partty. Tofu skin on dishes like this ends up with two textures, crispy initially then a slight chew once the skin is moist from the juices of the shrimp patty. I enjoyed this very much. The Banh khot is the reason why we wanted to stop here. Banh khot lately has been making its viral fame circuit. But being a street comfort food it has a place in my heart. The shrimp banh hot here is a bit more in the plain side, being just the banh khot shell and a whole shrimp. I think some other places also has a bit of ground pork and onions mixture. The shell was flavorful with a coco nutty essence. If you dislike coconut then this might not be you're favorite but that's usual for this dish. My family makes it without but this version is still very tasty. Id come back if im in the area and wanted some Vietnamese street food snacks.

Yelp helped me find Denica's Real Food Kitchen and it was a delightful experience. From Liliana's recommendation of the Chorizo Breakfast Tostadas which were DELICIOUS and exactly the sort of unique item for which I was looking, to Server Wilmer rapidly delivering the superb food outside to me, who was also gracious enough to bring me out some water and additional salsa, which I didn't realize were available inside as "self-serve," yet he didn't bat an eye. He was great to follow up a few times as well. The chow had fresh sliced avocado, and tomatoes with perfectly cooked eggs on top of crispy tostada-style & chorizo with excellent flavor. Well done!

I almost forgot we had to order first before sitting down lol. I have been on a French Toast kick recently, looking for the best French Toast in the bay. This Ube Stuffed French Toast might have a spot in the top 5. I scarfed this down in like... 10 minutes but it was so good. Ube custard wasn't overwhelming. None of this was overwhelmingly sweet even though it presents itself like a dessert. I have a sweet tooth tho so take that with a grain of salt lol. I only used a little bit of syrup but could've easily went without it. The banana in the middle was perfectly ripe and gave a nice relief of sweet freshness. Toast was thick brioche toast so not the lil flimsy slices of bread. Because this was $22 + tax and tip... I will try to recreate this at home. Their napkins had a nice message on it! Didn't remember seeing that the last time I was at a Denica's. They also have what looks like a kid area with toys? Kid table? Idk I saw it in the corner of my eye but I thought that was cool too. I had a bite of the kalua pork hash and * chefs kiss I would've been happy to order that. My lady really enjoyed the cookie butter latte as well. Will happily come back soon.

Cure What Ales You…read more This locally-owned restaurant is run by a Canadian expatriate couple, Tom and Teresa Lawrie, whose love of comfort foods and libations has borne two similarly named restaurants and a speakeasy, the Honeycomb Lounge, also in Livermore. This location is in one of my favorite quaint downtowns in the Bay Area, Livermore, and really delivers on the comfort food front with lots of creative riffs on American classics that will make your cardiologist shake their head in disappointment. The Good: * Happy Hour M-Fri 2:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. * Outdoor dog-friendly seating * Online reservations and waitlist via Toast (access through their website) * Seasonal menus so there is always something new to try. * Friendly service * Full bar with signature cocktails, as well as local beers and ciders on tap. * The brisket dinner wasn't quite what I was expecting, as it was more of a pot roast than a BBQ classic, but man, it was one of the best pot roasts I've ever had. The beef was smoky, succulent, and melted in your mouth. The concomitant jalapeño mashed potatoes were a fantastic accompaniment, as you got all the flavor of the jalapeño but just enough heat to make it an excellently balanced dish. * The BBQ beans were more of a bean soup, but delicious and smoky nonetheless. The Meh: * Limited menu for vegetarians and vegans The Ugly: * Street parking can be tough to come by, especially on weekends, but if you don't mind walking, there is a free city-run garage on Maple St. that has tons of spots and is shaded from those hot Livermore summers.
