Terrific hole in the wall with great quick food for dirt cheap. I've been very satisfied every time I've been here, I've never had any of their sandwiches but every soup they sell is excellent. The menu changes from time to time and they have everything from vegan to meat so there's never a shortage of options. The staff is very friendly and service is always quick, especially for the soups. They often get very busy during lunchtime on weekdays when people from nearby workplaces stop here on their lunch breaks so be prepared to wait line a bit if you're here during lunch hour but it's well worth the wait. The only downside is that there's no outdoor seating and it's small so isn't ideal during Covid. They do have a substantial carry-out operation so for anyone wanting to play it safe I'd recommend calling your order in and carrying out. Small quiet dining area, most orders appear to be take away. They always have veg/vegan options. I like that I can call, walk over the 5 blocks, and my order is ready to go when I arrive. Sandwiches are good and the lunch soup/sandwich combos are a great amount for a normal lunch. As they always seem to be busy with call-ins, I think it is best to know what you want prior to approaching the counter if you are ordering on location. The regular soups that come back around every so often are amazing, and that's not hyperbole, they are really good, but every week, with every new unique menu, he brings out something special that is just superb. You really get the feeling that you're going into someone's house when you enter Soup's On. Part of that is because you really are, as it's located amongst row homes. The store itself is a bit narrow but they do well with the space. As you can see in the pics they have a few tables off to one side, then if you step up into the other "room" there's more tables there. Both areas have windows views of the street. I'd consider this a nice spot for you and just one other person for quiet conversation or if you want to have lunch by yourself for some reading. They also sell bowls of their soup in the fridge for purchase. Your orders are brought out to your table if you eat in but I ordered to go. While waiting I noticed a sign that said 25cent charge for debit card which I was a little put off by but luckily I had cash on me (I know, I was surprised too). I also noticed an order was sent back because the person asked for their sandwich with no ham but it had ham on it. Sadly, my order met the same fate but I didn't realize the staff error until I was back at work at my desk :| What makes it even worse is that the soup I did get had the name of the soup I ordered written on top of it though it clearly wasn't what I asked for. I did call and the person who answered the phone said to just come in and I'd get a store credit for another soup. He said he didn't need my name because he's always there answering the phone so stay tuned to see if those words & offer hold true or if he was just trying to throw me in a trick bag. I was quite excited to try this place...still am I guess, once I get a soup I want. The incorrect soup I received was not good at all. Went in the other day for the first time to pick up soup for me and my partner. He asked for their vegan white bean and garlic soup; I ordered the french onion myself. Both in their largest, pint-sized containers. Apparently, for every 12 pints you buy, you get one free (I think it was 12....but don't quote me on that). Both were handed to me in a plastic bag with spoons, napkins, packets of real sea salt, and two chunks of what seemed like Italian bread. $12 total. Both soups were flavorful and filling, and the guys who work there are friendly and welcoming. Can't recommend this place enough. Parking was on the street, but it didn't take too long to find a spot on a Wednesday afternoon. Upon entering, it was almost refreshing to see the simple, no frills layout. We ordered at the register and the food was brought out to us within ten minutes or so. I got the tofu bahn mi and a cup of their vegan roasted cauliflower soup. Both were wonderful. The place is not huge, it's just right for it's location in the Mt. Vernon area. You walk in walk up some steps you are greeted by some pretty friendly folks. You can place an order to go or order and go sit in the dining area they have available. The atmosphere is super casual. No place settings. Grab your own utensils, salt, pepper, water, etc if wanted. Seat yourself. And your food will be served to you when ready. Like I said the place is not that large but there is plenty seating. When you're tight on time to grab lunch, this is a great stop for some quick, inexpensive, filling food! With so many options, I suggest doing a combo of soup with either a salad or sandwich. I had the Maryland crab soup with the tarragon chicken salad- you really can't go wrong there. The soup had nice chunks of crab in it, but I added salt because I'm a sodium fiend (they don't add any for those folks on low-sodium diets, how awesome is that?!) The tarragon chicken salad had a huge portion of chicken salad on top of a bed of lettuce. It came with a vinaigrette, but it honestly didn't need it with all of the flavors just from the chicken salad itself! The other soups like the French onion also looked pretty awesome, so I'll be back to sample those in the future. read more

I have had the opportunity to enjoy the French onion soup, chicken salad, broccoli/cheddar soup and the pork with strawberry sandwich. All items have been soooooo very tasty. I came for lunch the other day after studying nearby at University of Baltimore. It was walking distance from the school so that was a big plus. The building itself is pretty interesting. Seems like it might have been a house at some point, but I think that just adds to the charm. The tables are hand-painted with the different soups and their ingredients. We went up to the little window to order and I believe the owner took our order. We told him it was our first time, so we gave us the run down. He said they make everything in-house (the broth, bread, etc). He also mentioned that he purposely doesn't put a lot of salt in the soups so that customers can add to taste. He was really helpful and helped me decide what to get. They had soups (meat, vegetarian, or vegan) and sandwiches (hot or cold). They change up the menu everyday, but you can always check their website for the daily menu. The owner also mentioned they have free wi-fi, you just have to ask for the password. They had a $10 deal for a soup and sandwich, so I got the pork banh mi sandwich and leek and a potato soup. There was a 3.75% service charge if you paid by card, so you might want to bring cash. After we ordered we sat down and the owner brought our meals over to our table. The food was amazing! The pork banh mi was so good -- tons of fresh cilantro and the pork was tasty. And the soup was great too! The owner recommended that I add Old Bay to the soup, and it was perfect. The soups also come with some bread with rosemary and poppy seeds.
