Have you watched Hoarders before? Occasionally there are people who used to be tidy and organized and then something traumatic happened in their lives and they transformed into hoarders. Well, I had a similar experience to a much, much, much lesser extent. After life punched me in the face, I let go of my hyper-organized, neat self for a few months and just let mess and chaos consume me. When I picked myself up, I looked at my room and just didn't even know where to begin. I realized I had wandered into uncharted territory of mess that I've just never experienced. Enter Pat. She came in and swiftly assessed my situation and got to work right away. When I got sidetracked, she put me back on focus. I thought I would have trouble throwing things out but I actually didn't. I really just needed someone to help me and provide moral support and Pat wonderfully did that. Can I be honest? The best part is that she folded all my clothes! She also helped me rearrange my room in a way that would optimize space efficiency and gave me a few pointers on how to store things. Storage is a challenge in my room. I'm knocking off one star only because I think it's a bit pricey for what I was looking for. If you are someone who is generally organized and just needs a little help, I would recommend scoping out your options for pricing. In the Boston area, it seems like her her hourly rate is standard, but there are some who have lower minimum hourly bases, some who offer discounts, and some who have lower rates all together. Those who have lower rates tend to have less experience and credentials, but I think I would've been okay with that. With that said, if you need help with a large project or is someone who has struggled with organization, I would totally recommend her. She is definitely very pleasant to work with and takes her time in explaining everything and answering all your questions. My positive interactions with her over the phone was what ultimately won me over, even though price wise she was the most expensive on my life. read more

I received Sort it Out's contact information from a packing company in So Cal as we were moving my mother from California to the Boston area. I cannot recommend Pat Bernabei and her company Sort It Out strongly enough. If you are thinking of hiring a personal organizer, pick up the phone and call her! I considered hiring an organizer for about 18 months before I finally did. I had cleaned out and organized most of our house myself including our closets, kitchen, and living spaces. The only hurdle left was our household papers and setting up a filing system. Despite having gone through 20 years of our household's papers twice, I could not move forward. I was stuck. Enter Pat. Having a stranger go through 20 years of your papers is like standing naked in front of that person. Pat was wonderful. She is non-judgmental, collaborative, and completely confidential. She is part therapist, part sounding board, part hand-holder, and all organizer. Within an afternoon, Pat had further reduced our papers by half and had them categorized and boxed. They were so much more manageable to for the next step of setting up a flexible system that would work for our family for years to come. This system starts from the time the mail arrives in our house and ends with each piece of paper's final "home". For anyone thinking, why would I pay someone to do what I can do myself? Pat is worth every penny. I cannot tell you how much I learned from Pat about systems, and how much easier (and quicker) the process was with her involved. I found Sort It Out by pure luck when I googled "reloacation services, Boston, MA" This company creates moving and organizing miracles. I needed to move from Los Angeles to Boston and didn't know where to start. They found me a mover (never any pressure, only made suggestions) helped me find an apartment, helped me to buy furniture, found me professionals (again, no pressure, just names and competent people) for computer, home and car insurance and went above and beyond no matter what services I needed. They picked up the keys to my apartment and arranged for internet, cable, phone service and waited in the apartment for everything to be delivered or set up. When there was a problem with the utilities and a defective dresser was delivered - they made sure the problems were corrected and the correct item replaced, or service fixed. When my belongings arrived in Boston they worked with me to get unpacked and organized immediately and I was set up, living comfortably and relaxed. They took care of everything and always with a positive attitude. Nothing was too much. On the other hand, if it were a smaller local move they can handle that too. This is truly a wonderful company to do business with. They are certified by NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) and NASMM (National Association of Senior Move Managers). read more

We can't say enough about Pat and Cate (Cate worked with her for our on-going job). -honest -professional -on time -thoughtful about what things cost and frugal/wise when looking at options for movers and so on -excellent communicators on text/email always fast and responsive -creative with ideas about vendors to use and how to approach certain aspects of the project We used Sort it out Now over a 6 month period of time to get my parents home (7 bedrooms and 4 stories) in Newton, MA with 45 years of a family's STUFF trimmed down to where all that remains is the furniture and a few personal items (very few). The project involved clearing all the files and papers from my father's office to emptying a shed, to organizing hundreds of letters and all kind of memorabilia from my grandparents. The project was massive and all done with extreme care as my father passed away in August and my mother was anxious to get the house under control, but also very emotional and conflicted about sorting through so much stuff from her life in this house. AND - Pat's brother is a contractor and came over once on a Sunday AM to rescue us from a plumbing problem (and didn't charge!). He did it as a favor to Pat. We have now used Pat Bernabei and her incredible crew for two moves, one from MD to MA when we sold our house and moved to a rental apartment in Newton. The 2nd move was Dec. 2016 from the rental to a unit that we purchased in the same complex. I must say that I did tons of research from MD and have been told that I am extremely fussy. Well Pat far exceeded my wildest expectations!! She, Cate, and co workers on both moves were so professional, extremely creative, careful, honest, unbelievably hard working and just every possible adjective I can think of and work incredibly well with the slightly older population which we are! They are full service, from soup to nuts and I would highly recommend them and would absolutely use them if ever we decide to go through that insanity again!
