Halibut Almondine* and garlic bread
Marty K.

An amazing surprise! Hit this place up on a whim while visiting. Great food, exceptional service and it didn't break the bank. I had the halibut with lobster cream sauce smothered in mushrooms n almond slices as an entree, garlic bread and a salad. I was hungry but not starving and devoured it all. So much yum. Thank you. Highly recommend. I'd been to a few other recommended places on my month long work trip yet this place tops them all.

Spaghetti Carbonara. Different presentation than I have had before but delicious

A local eatery in midtown Anchorage serving Italian food. People were waiting in line at the bar to be seated and the parking lot was full. The decor is old world classic Italian but the service was on point. My husband had the lasagne with a side of minestrone soup while I had pasta carbonara with a green salad. We were served garlic bread as well. My pasta was delicious and the leftovers were as well. There was no leftover lasagne- lol. For dessert, we split a piece of cheesecake made with ricotta and topped with strawberries. A nice find for sure. Oh- and a decent wine list too!!

When we lived on west side, this was one of our favorite places for a quiet romantic meal. Then we sort of fell out of love with this place. We decided to revisit and see where it sat with is now. We went two weeks ago and I'm sitting here now to write this review and neither of us can remember what we got. Our takeaway is ... average. They took a very long time to wait on us. People who were seated after us got waiting on us first. That is a common theme when someone on your party is not white. Wanna see me not return to a place. That will do it. Doesn't matter how good the food is, which in this case wasn't even memorable.

The food was really good, the service was great and the price could not be beat. There were plenty of patrons there so you know it's good when they have lots of customers. The ambiance was romantic. We went casual which was fine but we could have dressed up.

We really enjoyed it. My wife and I shared the Meat Ravioli, a cup of Minestrone Soup and a Dinner Salad. The meal also came with Garlic Bread. The Ravioli was very good and was cooked perfectly. The Meat Sauce was meaty and flavorful. The Meatballs were smallish but tasty. The Salad and Soup were both simple and adequate. I'd eat here again.

This place was good. I was happy to come here for someone's birthday. They were able to accommodate a party of five. This place gets busy and busy fast. While we were waiting for our table, we watched another 10 groups come in. Didn't this place just open for dinner? This is crazy. The food was good We got a large variety of options. I had pizza. My wife had pasta. Someone got eggplant Parmesan. They had it all. Definitely a place that can fill up pretty quick. Definitely has that Homie feeling to it. Was happy to get in when we did. Enjoyed the bricks and the fireplace. The ambience was pretty nice.

Soggy wet pizza crust yummy

Ordered 2 Sorentos specials. The usual we get every week.... Well this time I think the change recipe the crust or soggy dough fell apart the whole 8" of the middle was wet . I called to speak with manager and 3 different people interviewed me why I need to talk to manager then I was hung up on

Regular side salad with dinner

Stopped by here on our way to the airport. Arrived around 6:15 on a Monday and had a 25 minute wait. Place is an old school restaurant. Dark with booths and tables with a light above each table. We ordered the regular and Greek dinner salad. Both were good but the Greek came with a lot of vegetables. Good salad. I ordered the portobello chicken with Marsala sauce. The chicken was perfectly grilled covered in cheese and sauce. They also gave me a lot of mushrooms which I enjoyed. My wife liked her eggplant. Nice pieces of eggplant covered in cheese and sauce. Our waiter was ok. Not much of a personality compared to the other waiters around us.

In the future I think I'd come for an appetizer and a couple of drinks and that's it. I felt the veal was tough on both ordered plates and potentially I would have preferred chicken. That being said the sauce was great. The grappa sauce had amazing flavor and the Marsala sauce also had great flavor. Plus the funghi appetizer was great with the bread. All of it was enjoyable enough for a return visit. This spot has very friendly staff, they move at a classic Alaska pace. Meant for sitting down and enjoying the company of someone you're eating with but not designed for getting in and out the door quickly. Come with the intention to get things as they come and enjoy the ride.

Both are packed with flavor. Whether ordering in or ordering to go, keep in mind it takes quite a while--almost 10 to 15 mins--for the staff to make your sandwich, so I wouldn't recommend that you stop here in you're in a hurry because you're not going to get it out fast. In this case, call ahead about 30 mins or so if you're picking up. The prices are a little high, but it's worth the price for the quality of the food you're getting, which I can't say for most restaurants in the present era (2020s for those that are reading this in the 2030s and 2040s, if this platform still exists then lol!) Either way, the quality is HIGH and the flavor factor? HIGH! The Classic Piadina is very fresh tasting and comes with greens. It only comes in one size, so it's a little small for me. Still delicious! The Nonni is a pretty large sandwich, if you're getting the full sandwich. The onions combine with the meat enhances the flavors. The building that Originale is in presents itself as a very quaint and relaxed lunch spot with bright colors and large windows. It's a place you can go to sit and talk with friends. I look forward to trying more of their sandwiches.

I went with the "Favorito," and let's just say, it instantly earned its name. The prosciutto cotto was pure-savory-bliss-melt-in-your-mouth good. And the focaccia- fresh, herby, and perfectly balanced in thickness. It hugged the fillings just right without stealing the show. Also, the tomatoes- I did not expect them to be so buttery and delicious. I may have paused mid-bite to appreciate them. Yes, I'm that person. As a die-hard cheese lover, the little bonus cube of cheese on the side felt like a tiny gift--like the sandwich was giving me a wink and saying, "Hey, I see you." Originale, I'll be back. Orso was one of the few nicer restaurants in Anchorage that was open on a Sunday so we headed there after a very long day out at Seward. We arrived around 7:30pm. It wasn't super busy so we were seated immediately. Our server suggested some drink options based on what we liked (me: gin; my husband: bourbon). They were very good. We got the calamari appetizer - I loved the artichokes and thin lemon slices added in, plus both fried and fresh calamari in the dish. I got the Parmesan crusted halibut and my husband ordered the halibut with diavolo pasta. Both were very good. My dish came with asparagus and mushroom risotto; the risotto was pretty salty but still good. The fish was cooked well and I enjoyed it. Overall we had a very nice dinner at Orso, and I'd recommend if you're looking for a more special dinner. As I mentioned it was later on a Sunday so not busy - so the atmosphere was pretty quiet and the ambiance was cozy.

Even when it was time to leave, the hospitality continued. They boxed up our leftovers for us and took extra care packaging everything because they knew we were traveling. That small detail meant so much and earned them even MORE brownie points with me. The food, the flavor, the service, the hospitality--10/10 across the board. The PERFECT way to end my Alaska birthday adventure. I'll definitely be back whenever Anchorage brings me this way again!

Our server was patient, and very pleasant, bearing in mind that one of our party was a crotchety old man. Prior to ordering, he and i arrived first, and were perusing the menu, and he was relating the items he liked, and what he planned to order. He told me he liked both Shrimp Scampi and Shrimp Sinatra. Our other 2 attendees arrived and we ordered - i got Italian Chicken, which came with Soup or Salad, and Garlic Bread. Crotchety Old Man ordered Shrimp Scampi, I'll leave out the other 2 in the party, because I'm the reviewer, and i can only give feedback on what i ate, and my experience. I got the lemon chicken soup, i did like that, it was quite a thick soup, and the citrus flavour was noticeable, but not overpowering. I did get some chunks of chicken in the soup The entrees came out relatively quickly, and IMMEDIATELY there's an issue. Crotchety Old Man announces that he ordered Shrimp Sinatra, and he does not want "that" and he was actually quite rude about it (Hence the name I've given him) the 3 of us and the server told him he had ordered Shrimp Scampi, and he was getting ruder, "Take it away, i don't care what you do with it" and the highly patient server, said she'd have a Shrimp Sinatra made for him. Honestly, I'd have walked off, hence why I'm not a server I did not wait for his entree to be served, as it was WAY past my personal dinnertime, and I'd already been hangry when i got there. Ok, so there was a huge amount of food. Mine was served on fettucine noodles, in a white wine and lemon sauce, with what appeared to be 2 chicken breasts, butterflied. Some parts of the chicken were very tender and juicy, others seemed to be quite tough. The noodles were ok, the sauce was not that creamy, and somewhat lacking. Just ok. The garlic bread - i am not a fan. I like my garlic bread to be made from scratch with real butter, and real garlic, and in my opinion this was not that. I make good garlic bread at home. And it like it made with a french baguette, aka small round slices, with liberal tiny pieces of freshly diced garlic. I rarely use garlic powder or onion powder at home. I prefer real garlic, real onion. I will say that quality beats quantity every time. Serving me a huge pile of food won't impress me. I will not take this home in a box. It's just not worth the calories. Just give me 1 butterflied chicken breast, juicy, tender, well seasoned, over an adequate portion of beautifully cooked noodles, in a perfectly creamy white wine sauce, topped with browned, finely grated Parmigiano Reggiano and my eyes will roll in my head with delight.
