I got the 1/4 chicken lunch special. The chicken was undone and fatty. I literally saw blood running out of it. I was with a big group for work and didn't want to seem like a drama queen, so I just left it on my plate and didn't make a big deal about it. I'm just praying I don't get sick later. I went to Sonny's to redeem my Father's Day meal with my family. My wife ordered the all you can eat rib dinner. After she asked for an extra to go box so that I could place my food to go and get the bones for our little Puppy. They treated her as if she was stealing food. So she stated that if it's an issue, she would wrap the bones up and put them in her purse. The manager "Laura" was sitting @ an adjacent table spying on her. But refused to bring her another round of ribs thinking that she was gonna take them to go and unfairly denied her more food until we had to almost get into an argument because of the fact she made an error of assumptions. She was very rude and unprofessional. Never have we been accused and treated as such by any restaurant establishment. After 5yrs we've gone there times per year, but today will be our last. I am always a fan of Sonny's and this location was no different. The service was fast and friendly. Our orders arrived quickly and were all correct. Between us, we had sliced pork, chicken, ribs, fries, coleslaw, and baked beans. We all really enjoyed our food. Ok where to start. The pros were that the restaurant was clean and the staff very friendly and nice so that's always good, but the food is what disappointed us. My husband got the brisket. It was like warm and very dry. It did not have any smoke flavor and he had to cut it with a knife. Good brisket is smokey and tender and does not need to be drowned in sauce to make it taste good. Beans were canned and sauce was added. Not very fresh. My daughter got the pulled pork sandwich. Same thing, dry and flavorless. Also when I tasted it I got either some bone or a piece of cartilage. I ordered the salad bar. It was clean but I only had two choices for salad dressing. Not everyone wants to drench their salad in ranch or bleu cheese. Also I tried the chicken salad on the salad bar and again got a piece of bone. Like I said the place is clean and staff is nice but the food was bland. I had barbecue ribs and shrimp. The ribs were outstanding, Nice rub, good amount of smoke but not overly smoky. The shrimp were a disappointment. I am fairly sure that they were bought premade, frozen and fried to order. Tartar sauce might have helped a bit, like there was none. The Coleslaw and cornbread were very good, butter would have been nice.The green beans were a disappointment. I was expecting fresh green beans from the description. If in fact they were for fresh, they were so over cooked they may as well have been canned. My husband got brisket and loved it. Went today was there at 1115 they only had a few people in at that time. Waiter was very slow, ordered all you can eat ribs. When they came out they were small and some very hard. When I ate the ones that were ok . I had to flag the waiter down for a reorder. It took almost 10 mins to get 4 ribs . By then the party I was with had finished their meals. I have also talked highly on Sonny's but today visit makes me rethink that. Not sure what has happen but the place has a new look but service and food has gone down hill. read more

One of my favorite BBQ joints in Mobile. Decor is real down home. The food is always great and service is good. One time, when I was overly suspicious after watching about food poisoning and how undercooked chicken is the main offender, I sent back a piece of BBQ chicken that looked like it was undercooked. To apologize, the manager brought 5 new pieces of BBQ chicken to make up for it. Great customer service. Must try if you haven't. read more

Anytime we are in Mobile and want bbq, this is where we go! All of the choices are so good that my biggest problem with the place is trying to decide what to get!!! The ribs and wings are always spot on, and the brisket is really good too, though not my favorite. They have an awesome salad bar and cold beer which is great for football on Sundays! Great Q! I like the Smokin sauce. I had the brisket slices for lunch, and the service was great. The portion was kinda light though, and it seemed they tried to compensate with two HUGE slices of bread. The taste is great. I still don't understand why a waitress asks me if I want more water in my glass. Really? The empty glass should be a visual cue. And what is the cost of filling it for me? The tip drops just a bit when I get that question, especially when my mouth is full or I'm having a conversation with an acquaintance. read more

Great BBQ! I'm from Texas and haven't had decent brisket at many places in Alabama. Sonny's will be going on my "brisket done right" list! Definitely won't be spending my money here ever again. I used to eat here all the time, but it seems as though management has changed and it's gone down hill. I've been twice in the past 2 weeks and the first time I waited in the drive thru for about 20 minutes for my food. I went back a second time trying to give them a second chance and it was worse than the first. Once again, I waited in the drive thru about 20 minutes and then was asked to pull up to wait on my order. I did so and waited another 10 minutes. As I sat there looking into the drive thru window, the staff was laughing and joking around in the back, throwing around literal potatoes as if they were playing a game. Some were just standing around with their hands on their hips looking clueless. When the employee finally came out with my order, he shoved it through my car window and walked off before I could even check it. He yelled back "I'm not sure if they put utensils in there oops" and kept walking even after I tried to call him back because they didn't give me any forks or utensils to eat my meal with. No napkins either. We had planned to eat in our car, but we had to drive all the way back to our house to get utensils to eat with because our food could not be eaten by hand. We couldn't go inside and get them either due to the dining room being closed. Definitely will not be back. Not worth the money. Moes is far superior. Won't be back. read more

Clean salad bar with fresh ingredients. Half chicken was fantastic. I eat chicken everyday for weightlifting purposes so it was nice to have some chicken that was moist and tasty. Get a endless salad bar + half chicken for 9 bucks. Can't beat that. The service was exceptional. Boss man came out and asked how our meal was and gave us a free bottle of their sizzling bbq sauce. I arrived in Mobile last night from SoCal and was in a hurry for BBQ and SWEET TEA! I was muliti-tasking and decided Sonny's deserved a try - I used the convenient drive thru. I ordered the Brisket Sandwich Deal, this includes the sandwich, a side and a generous 32 ounce beverage. My order was taken without a hitch from the comfort of my vehicle - something I always admire, wait time was around five minutes or so, not bad for BBQ. Total price for lunch was eight bucks and some change. The sweet tea was spot on - we can't readily get this lovely potion in SoCal and the stuff they do serve is generally oh so wrong, I can't tell you how happy this cup of sweet tea made me! The sandwich came on a gorgeous fluffy golden roll with a lovely sheen, the bread was delicious. The meat was tender, generous, but lacked flavor, there was an ever so slight smokey flavor, but not much. It tastes as though they may boil the meat, then finish it off in the smoker. Unfortunate. My side of BBQ beans was about an 8oz portion - generous as a side. Small white beans swimming in a aromatic BBQ sauce with a good amount of meat chunks. The beans were not infused with the flavor of the sauce, which is unfortunate because I did enjoy the flavor of the sauce. While Sonny's was not horrible, it certainly falls short of the beauty of BBQ. While I believe it was a value for the money and it certainly was convenient, it just wasn't what one would expect from BBQ, especially in the South. read more

Excellent customer service! Full on southern hospitality! Food came out quickly and hot with a great presentation. Fresh salad bar with a variety of pre-made salads as well. Drinks very good!! I had pulled pork on garlic bread and it was delicious! They have 4 types of sauce and yummy tastes. The pulled pork sandwich tasted like they cooked it in a crockpot and was very greasy. I would have given it 1 star if just based on that but the service got the 4 stars. Excellent service! Everyone in the restaurant made eye contact, smiled, and spoke. Our order came out incomplete so they gave the kids a sundae to make up for it. Horrible experience. Restaurant was cold which was the least of the problems. We had a party of 5. We were supposed to receive plates for the salad bar and had to go in search of them because it took so long. We waited for our food for a long time, others around us got their food even though they arrived after us. 4 of us got our food and the 5th had to wait because they messed the order up. We were told the manager would bring that plate out. The 4 who received food got their food cold, not enjoyable at all. The 4 of us finished our meals before the 5th meal came out. Finally, I spoke with the manager who seemed to not care. The 5th meal which we waited over an hour for had the chicken wings undercooked. We were told the manager would speak to us a number of times and she did not never did. Overall horrible experience and I do not recommend. read more

We went today (Sunday) when they opened at 11. They actually opened at 11:05 or so and there was a crowd already there. They've totally re-done the inside and there is a nice country decor going on. It looks great and somehow looks bigger. We had the BEST waitress-Kochera- and she was so helpful with the menu. We have been there a lot but no one had ever told me about the extras you can get on a steak burger. She brought the owner(?) around and he talked with us for a few minutes. It was an awesome meal!! Two of us had the beef brisket & it was fairly dry and was rather chewy. The fried okra was as good as I have ever had, but the beans were not very tasty & the potato salad was just ok & the banana pudding tasted old. I felt kinda let down. The food is good but when you go to pay make sure you watch your credit card receipt. Either the waitress either add herself a tip ahead time or she made mistake either way I was not happy the bill was $52.4 and she charged my credit card $55.79 I ask speak to a manager come to find out she was a manager. I sign the receipt left a zero tip figure if she fix it that her tip, what she don't know is I always tip a lot more than that but that her lost. Be careful giving them your card but the food is definitely worth going back I am taking cash next time. read more

To start service was horrible the food was even worse everyone's food was cold except the chicken wings they were beyond burnt. The so called manager offered to take 2$ off the bill instead of replacing the food. After receiving the bill they also tried to charge me 4$ for there 1$ beer and denied it. The food has improved alot since they got new owners that actaully care about making sure that their guest are happy! The food is great and the servers are even better we have one server that we always ask to sit with. If you havent tried it since the new owners took over you must give it another try. Ya know, I know this is a chain restaurant, but I don't care...its great! The food was super yummy, and our server was really nice and attentive. I think if you are in the Mobile area, and really want to come somewhere that captures Southern comfort food then this is it. It has a salad bar, a huge menu with a lot of different BBQ options. The walls are decorated with Southern antiques, and they have all the Sweet Tea one person can handle! It is very down-home country food, and I dig it. read more

Dinner for two just wasn't what we were expecting. I ordered the sliced pork with cole slaw and potato salad, my wife the steak burger with only pickles and cheese only and a baked potato. Took a while to get our food and when it came to the table mine for one wasn't right, I didn't notice at first and I didn't bring it up ether. I got about 6 small slices of beef, instead of pork. Cut really small and thin. There was barely any run on them and no smoke ring even though there meat is supposed to be smoked for 12 hours. My cole slaw was good potato salad sucked. My wife's food, we'll they forgot her cheese, and when they took the burger back to put cheese on it and it came back it was a small piece of cheese that barely fit the burger. And the baked potato was luke warm and tough. Our server was nice but didn't pay us much attention, my drink was empty for over 5 min and took her forever to refill it. And she asked my wife if she needed another mango tea and then took her over 5 min to refill hers. The best part was the desert. Got the Browne and peach cobbler, both were awsome. But the fact I paid 12.99 for the sliced beef and it was supposed to be the sliced pork for 9.99. It was over priced for the portions. I would have been better off to get the all u can eat ribs for 14.99. But we won't be back and that is not what they advertise of being smoked BBQ for 12 hours. Yeah right. If you're on your lunch hour, and time is an issue, avoid this place at all costs. It took us 35 minutes to get our lunch. And pretty much the only reason we got it was I kept asking about it. We were told by our server several times that they had run out of the turkey and they were fixing more. What he didn't seem to realize is this is the barbecue place, the turkey is smoked, and that takes hours. So they excuse didn't fly. In his defense he brought us plates for the salad bar on the house. And of course our meal did arrive right about the time we sat down with our salads. I ended up talking to the regional manager and she comped our lunch but it appeared as if the whole restaurant was having issues with people getting their food in a timely manner. The turkey ended up being lukewarm although all the sides were hot. And it was good, nothing to complain about when it comes to the actual taste of the food. Dec 31st me and my husband went thru the drive thru and ordered a meal to take home. At the window the lady was real sweet and we got a coupon that allows us to come back and get the same meal for free. Had to be used before a certain date and it had to be what was on the ticket. That meal was very good and enjoyed. So Jan 8th was my Daughter's 18th birthday and chose Sonny's for her birthday dinner. Perfect for me lol. We were greeted right away with a warm and friendly greeting. We were seated right away. Our waitress was really sweet! The food was wonderful and the whole family enjoyed every bit.. Our normal $70 ticket for my family of 5 was cut in half due the eat and repeat ticket! Awesome! Plus our waitress gave our birthday girl a free dessert for her birthday!! We only Go to Sonny's maybe twice a year and we have been pleased with them every time!! I don't remember our waitress name but thank you for such great service!! read more
