the service has generally been ok. however I recently had a modem die and decided to switch to a wireless phone plan combo. I have faster speeds and save about 60 dollars a month. I have been with sonic for over 5 years and they have charged modem rental for that time. In cancelling I have been notified that they will charge about 140 if I do not return the equipment and 20 dollars for shipping if I do. It seems like the cost of the hardware at something like 15/month would have been paid by now. If I had just changed internet it would have been a little cheaper than Sonic with higher speeds. I had rural service and was able to switch to 5g. Download speed increased about a factor of 4, upload speed increased by a factor 2/3 read more

I appreciate him using shoe covers while entering my apartment. Christian explained everything clearly, did an *extremely* clean and efficient install, and he made sure the connection was working perfectly before leaving. The mounted modem and additional cables are routed and cleanly stowed. I appreciated his thorough attention to detail and helpful attitude throughout the hot afternoon. It was clear he took pride in his work. I felt great knowing that he verified with me that the installation was successful and performing better than before! As a very longtime Comcast customer, the first words that come to mind when I think about my switch over to Sonic are... thank god! I switched to Sonic after yet another unannounced price increase that had me paying more than $150 per month just for Internet service. After switching to Sonic I'm now getting about triple the speed at a third of the price. The install appointment went great and was done in less than an hour. When I had a couple of questions and needed to call customer service after buying a new mesh router, that experience was light years better (and faster) than any call I'd ever made to Comcast support. I have been on Sonic for about 4 months running now with zero issues and zero downtime. I consider this service a great value. I highly recommend Sonic lightspeed Internet. read more

Sonic is one of the best ISPs in the nation, hands down--speed, reliability, uptime, and price and I've lived in 4 major metropolitan areas. I was a network engineer working in telecom. And my current role has me remote for over five years with 6 hrs min of zoom meetings a day.... having spotty connectivity at any time of my waking day is not an option in my line of work leading global teams. I can count the times I experienced a Sonic outage on one hand. And this includes PGE fire preparedness shutdowns. Two things still operational in my house during all day power outages--my fridge and my sonic fiber connection courtesy of a nice big battery (purchased separately ). Unlike the cable providers where your speed really depends on how many of your neighbors are not online, fiber is different so your throughput is consistent. Also upload speed is much more important than cable providers like Xfinity makes you believe so symmetric (equal upload and download speed) is a massive game-changer. I would be lying if I said that I won't check Sonic's coverage availability when moving to my next place. I know it sounds like I am a shill but honestly I probably should have given this review many years ago, but I didn't want them wising up and raising their service prices. #gate-keeping #just-do-it read more

We picked Sonic because they had the best quote we got in the Peninsula/SF area. We had a few hiccups in the process, but Sonic went above & beyond to resolve them! I've been very impressed and we've had great service our first week using them for wifi. Bumps in the road & how Sonic resolved them: - Every other apartment in our building was set up for Sonic. When the employee who came to install realized that, he explained the situation & what it would take to get it resolved, and helped us set up a new appointment. - The second employee (who came later this week to install the missing equipment) was very patient when a neighbor began complaining about the noise at 10am on a weekday. He was fast and friendly, completing the entire process in 2-3 hours (even though we'd been told that it could take 4 hours) - After installation, when I filled out a customer satisfaction survey, and complained that "prices weren't transparent", within 1-2 days, someone emailed to ask if I had questions about pricing! Wow, so attentive. I replied to the email to clarify that I was just wishing Sonic provided quotes online, because I had to call to get a quote. Otherwise, pricing was very transparent. read more

Very Misleading, almost False Advertising I went to Sonic's website to sign up, put in my address and it came up with what appeared to be that service as available at my house. It took all my info (including payment) and I put in what was termed a "request". Little did I know that a "request" is not the same as actually having the service available. I received an email that had a link to the status of service in my area, and they are nowhere near getting service around here. Turns out it I only put in a request to be first in line whenever they manage to get service, but that was not at all made clear in the application process. They should tell you as soon as you put in your address whether service is available or not. This really turns me off to Sonic. read more

Was really hoping Sonic was the one , u know cheaper / more reliable internet. Waited 18 months plus , to get it for $45 a month. Finally 2/3/25 it's installed now (3) months free .. great . Turns out it's really $59 a month.10 gigs WOW whatever that means . Only (2) seniors living here , not gamers just use Netflix and such, no phone .Fast forward 9 months now I'm paying $69 a month. Funny it's costing me more now than my old internet. My girlfriend has it too , and she's paying more. Looks like new boss same as the old boss , if u get my drift.. read more

We have a lot of internet needs- my husband works from home, and his job requires him to upload/download/livestream videos a lot. My kids like to stream videos. I like to play online video games. Excellent customer service from our technician Juan today. He arrived super early. And He was super quick and knowledgeable. Willing to answer any questions with no issue. He even offered to take off his shoes after noticing we were a no shoes house ( we did not require him to do so but greatly appreciated he even offered) he had our wifi fixed in about 30 minutes. After he left his supervisor, Antonio came over to check out his work and ask how the service was today. Overall, very happy with sonics quick turnaround time for any technical issues.
