This is the fourth time I have gotten in the drive thru lane and had to wait over 5 minutes just to be acknowledged. Today I got out of line after 15 minutes. Sonic cheeseburgers are the best! But the burger I got from this location tastes and looks nothing like any Sonic burger I've ever gotten. It tasted like a McDonalds burger and that's not a compliment. First the burger was still pink. If this were a nice restaurant that used quality beef, I wouldn't mind that. But it's Sonic and I'm sure they don't use the highest quality of beef so that was kind of disappointing. And after taking my first bite I knew this was not the normal Sonic burger I'm used to getting. Very disappointed. I hope all the Sonic food around here don't suck as bad as this location. About a week ago I came here and ordered $59 worth of food? One of the items of my order was a kids meal for my daughter, I never received the kids meal. I came today and I was about to order $47 of food and drinks and I mentioned that last time I came here I never received my daughter's kids meal, the cashier was cool enough and said he would honor me one kids meal on the house, right after that he comes on the intercom and says the manager didn't approve it because the managers needs a receipt. I didn't have the receipt with me because I don't keep fast food receipts. I told the cashier to cancel my order and I didn't want anything. I am not that type of person that tries to get free food, I pay for what I get. Anywho, so they just lost a $47 order for a $4.59 kids meal that I truly paid for but never received. read more

The rest of the staff was great.... Unfortunately they had to pick up the slack for an employee who was chatting with a very obnoxious customer. They seemed to be friends... she delivered him his drink and then stayed there for 20 minutes!! I hope sonic checks the cameras for the employees who had to cover her. At one point (after 15min of still waiting for my food) I turned my car back on. The customer she was talking to YELLED at me "Shut up". Well. Because I turned my car back on? He turned and yelled at me? I have to small children in my car. My food finally arrived...over cooked and not "cold" but not warm. I grabbed my soda and because the lid wasn't on all the way the large soda spilled all over the inside of my car. It went down between the seats and I will need to get my car professionally cleaned now. I never eat here. Period. The food sucks. They used to have a really good drink/shake that was the cherry limeade mixed with vanilla ice cream. They stopped carrying it a long time ago. So I stopped going because literally nothing else on their menu is good. Tonight my son decided to have dinner here. So he pulled up the app ahead of getting to the drive thru. He found HONEY BBQ popcorn chicken. Our turn to order. He orders honey bbq. The guy doesn't say anything (like "we don't have it even though it's on the menu and the app") he just adds regular bbq to the order and continues. My son pointed it out and he said he couldn't find honey bbq. And that he would add the sauce at the end. So the end comes around and he adds some kind of wing sauce for an additional charge. No. This isn't how it works guys. He then tells us that they don't even have honey bbq. So why is it on the menu AND the app. Here's the fun part. If you're a grubhub driver or any other food delivery person.. This is a problem The customer orders, you get there and you have to hold everyone in line up because these people cant get their act together enough to fix their app or their menu. " Great Travel Back In Time " My wife and I visited the Sonic Drive-In in Santee, Ca the other night and had a great visit back in time. This was the first time in the San Diego area in 50 years that I had visited a place where you drive up and park your car and order, get carhop service, and eat in your car. It brought back many memories when years and years ago I was a kid. Oscars drive in had several Sonic type experiences restaurants in the San Diego Area. Which were always packed with cars and people. After we decided what we wanted to order I pushed the Big Red button and Brittany the order taker, was so nice in taking our order. Brittany was so bubbly and nice helping us with all of our questions, as she took our order. Katelyn was our Car Hop person who brought our order out to us as she quickly roller skated out to us with ease. Katelyn was also very nice and had a big smile on her face. My wife and I shared a cheese burger with onions rings and a grill cheese sandwich. The burger was very big and very tasty, and the onion rings were delicious. The grilled cheese sandwich was to soft for me as I like a crispy bread crust. To drink we shared a huge blue raspberry lemonade. For dessert we had a butterfinger custard concrete Dessert which was Yummy ! The employees were great, the food was good, and the experience was historic ! read more

Lately the service here has been horrible which was usually never the case. The last 2-3 times we have gone our order has been entirely wrong and when we bring it up to them they seem the cashier seems very irritated to make it correctly. The worst part is that we are just ordering slushees which should be very simple but it some how is wrong often. I hope this is just a temporary thing and the service gets better. read more

We've been to Sonic many times before, but the recent experience with the fast food restaurant was not satisfactory at all. The service wasn't the best. The microphone from the stand wasn't loud enough to hear and the workers didn't get my correct order right. The time it took to finish was very long. The screen said that our food was coming soon but it was no where near that. To add to this, the quality of the food was not good for any of our orders. The chicken was tough and dry, while the fries and tatertots were salty. Everything seemed a bit off from the usual. Overall I didn't have a good time at the establishment. read more

I came to sonic at 9:20 PM to order a late night snack with some friends. After we had ordered we waited for 40 minutes until we pressed the button again to ask where our food is. We waited 10 minutes and no answer. My friend and I had got out of the car to hopefully get someone's attention only to have them avoid eye contact and what seemed like them lounging around conversing. I had seen that the orders were cleared on the board as-well. When my friend and i got back to the car we had called to ask them about our food. They then stated that the order was put in at stall 6 which the men at stall 6 when we ordered declined that as their order. When our order was brought to us around 10:40 PM they told us they were out of one of the items and replaced it with a different item without asking what we preferred. All in all they should really re train there workers to do their job correctly since this doesn't seem like the first time this has happened. read more

We came to the park and order section of Sonic and waited for about 20-25 minutes before someone helped us. When we finally got our food about 15 minutes after the order was wrong, the food was cold, and they didn't bring any utensils with my boneless wings as if i'm supposed to eat them with my hands. We got to Sonic as a little evening outing at 8pm for some slushes to get out of the house. Half the drive ups were closed so we went to the drive through. When we had the opportunity to order 20 min later the girl seemed to not understand our very simple clear order and didn't bother to read it back. It was very busy even when we arrived having to wait in that same line until a parking place for carhop became available. This is one reason why we have not eaten at Sonic many times before, only twice prior to today. We had two pleasant experiences prior at Sonic Santee, both inside the restaurant. Here is the major issue (of today's visit to Santee Sonic), that I finally decided to write to you about (May 23), as I was only going to leave negative feedback on a public ratings forum and contact my bank. However, I feel that I should address Sonic directly before plastering the bad experience we had today on the internet for everyone to read. The Sonic #2 (correct me if I'm wrong) is TWO PATTIES, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, plus choice or ALL- mayo, ketchup, mustard. WE ORDERED TWO #2s, we received (TWO) SINGLE PATTY BURGERS WITH CHEESE, TOMATO, LETTUCE. ONE had pickles, ONE HAD NONE. NEITHER HAD ONION. ONE HAD MAYO, NO MUSTARD, and NO KETCHUP. ONE HAD MUSTARD, NO KETCHUP, NO PICKLES, and NO MAYO. SOMEONE EITHER MADE OUR ORDER COMPLETELY WRONG, OR SOMEONE SWITCHED OUR ORDER WITH ANOTHER ORDER INTENDED FOR SOMEONE ELSE. Only the sodas, cheddar peppers, and tater-tots were correct. I PAID FOR TWO #2's WITH EVERYTHING ON THEM LARGE SIZE. What we received was NOT WHAT WE ORDERED. We ate only part of our sandwiches, part of our tater-tots, none of the cheddar peppers, and we left almost immediately to offer our parking spot (stall 7) to someone waiting. We did not come into the restaurant, we did not call the carhop back BECAUSE THIS LOCATION WAS SO BUSY. As we were driving back to Julian where we reside, I finally spoke up by saying "bad day for Sonic, my burger was terrible." My partner then opened his mouth to me about how his burger was NOTHING NEAR what he ordered. I confirmed that mine was wrong also, he then commented he had a REGULAR SINGLE PATTY CHEESEBURGER just as I received. WRONG SANDWICHES! To add, both burgers were dry, the sandwiches themselves were dry. I PAID FOR TWO sandwiches which WE DID NOT RECEIVE! So someone was having a bad day in your kitchen. Quite frankly, it was a bad experience, and I don't think we will ever return to Sonic for carhop, at least. We avoid Sonic due to the lines. We expected Sonic to be GREAT considering the long lines, both drive-thru and carhop. This visit was terrible. I love Sonic but more times then not at this location we've had TERRIBLE service. The employees have been rude. Before I complete order they're cutting me off and telling me my total. Then I order a sonic blast and they say they're out of M&Ms and Reese's so I get an Oreo blast. We get to the window and after 15 min they hand me my blast and tell me they're all out of spoons and offers me a fork! Smh read more

The Oreo cheesecake master shake is horrible unless you like drinking pure cream cheese.

ordered just large grape slush and route 44 cherry limeade slush with strawberry. they gave me a normal limade instead of the cherry slush but it wasnt a big deal and we just asked for the right drink. i was disappointed when she took away my wrong drink. i understand she was going to replace it but wasnt she just going to throw it away. sadly the slush they gave me was missing the strawberry and only had one cherry and one lime. the drinks were good, i was just disappointed about not getting what i asked for. i get that mistakes happen but i hoped they would at least let me keep the wrong drink. read more

Just say NO to the 30+ min wait for tater tots that tasted like the end of a 12 volt battery. Not even Napoleon Dynamite would stuff these tots inside his cargo pants' pockets. I sat there in my car, wasting precious gas and A/C to sit in Santee's scorching heat wondering if any female escapees from Los Colinas had stopped by Sonic. I figured 0 out of the 10 escapees would grab a quick to-go order. Even THEY can tell that this is no ordinary fast food joint. There's nothing fast about Sonic. I guess the fastest thing to hit you is how dumb you feel after waiting and paying to stuff your face with sodium, trans fat, and cholesterol.
