My family and I tried Penguin Yogurt Factory for the first time and we loved it! It's located in a shopping center with Vons, so there's a large parking lot. The frozen yogurt is self-serve with plenty of flavors to choose from. I got the French vanilla and my girls got strawberry, and we topped ours with Hawaiian Hawaiian Delight Sorbet. Everything was delicious! The topping bar had so many choices, and everything we picked tasted fresh. They also have a pretty large menu beyond frozen yogurt, including teas, milkshakes and other drinks and treats, so we'll definitely have to try some of those next time. It was really hot the day we went, so we were glad there was seating inside. There are only a few tables indoors, but they also have more tables outside with umbrellas. The person who rang us up was very nice. They also have a punch card where you can earn $5 off a future purchase after buying a certain number of yogurts or shakes, which is a nice bonus because we already know we'll be back. Staff were friendly and helpful, making great recommendations (since it was our first time). The vibe was cheerful and pleasant. They had a great indoor and outdoor space to enjoy your delicious treats! It is a bit pricey compared to other froyo shops! But they do offer a loyalty program which offers a stamp card for frequent customers. Overall, the frozen yogurt was creamy and slightly tangy. The dole whip and pomegranate sorbet were the perfect combination of sweet and citrus flavors. My daughter is pretty basic- she ordered plain vanilla with boba. That place is unsanitary. A piece of strawberry fell onto the ledge where every customer places their hand. I touched the strawberry as well. The employee grabbed the strawberry and put it back into the serving bowl for new customers to consume. That's completely unacceptable and disgusting. People can get sick from that. I told him (older guy with glasses) about it and acted as if he didnt know what i was talking about. He then Proceeded to remove the one piece of strawberry from the serving bowl. I am use to paying $7-$8 in North County but I guess in Santee it's a whole lot higher so that was my lunch since I spent $12 on one cup of frozen yogurt. Like I said it was delicious. Time and again, Penguin Yogurt Factory has never disappointed. It is hands-down the best yogurt shop I have ever been to and I have absolutely no complaints. The man who runs this place is kind of a neat freak, but it makes for the absolute best froyo experience possible compared to other places which do not give much attention to detail in keeping the toppings bar stocked and clean. They have a variety of flavors of yogurt, including for different dietary needs , and I don't think I've ever tried a bad one. They have tons of toppings, sauces, etc and a huge variety of drinks, shave ice, chamango, etc. This place has a special place in my heart and is where I have gone with family for years after days or nights out. We have a running joke after having a huge meal at dinner of saying "Time for Penguin Yogurt?" I have gone here with all my friends, those who I have kept throughout the years and those who have not stuck around. I've gone alone during some of my darkest times. My best friend is from Britain and had never tried froyo until he came to Penguin with me, he exclaimed "Now that is delightful! " upon taking his first bite. It is not just a yogurt shop, it is a place of community in Santee which brings people together and makes them happy. My husband got the sparkling watermelon lemonade and boy was it crisp and refreshing It sort of tasted like a less-sweet, more naturally flavored watermelon soda.
