We don't have a Sonic near us in DC. I get excited by the seasonal flavors. This location didn't have the one I wanted. We got ripple fries and cheese sticks. I had no idea that marina sauce could come in packets like honey & peanut butter. Yay! I asked for extra. The ripple fries were decent. The cheese sticks were good. This location used to be so wonderful, but now not so much... When we first got there, we were having issues with ordering our food on the app (I know it's not this locations fault) so we just decided to push the button and order while parked. Literally 10 minutes go by after pushing the button and we hear nothing. Then finally a woman comes on and tells us that the parking delivery is now closed, but we can go through the drive thru. 45 minutes later, we finally order our food and the woman taking our order was extremely nice. They guy at the window handing our food, not so much. Now for me this was the final straw: I finally get my food and realized I was missing my Texas toast. I got it as one of my sides for my meal. We go back to the window to tell them that It's not included, and then they bring out a toasted burger bottom bun. I wish I was joking but I'm not. When they gave me that they told me it's because they're out of Texas toast and that's why it wasn't included in the first place. 1.) why didn't you tell me that when we were ordering or when you gave me my food that there was no more Texas toast??!! 2.) if you're out of it, you couldn't have just asked me if I wanted another side instead??! 3.) the "Texas toast" the gave me wasn't even buttered or seasoned. I did an Uber Eats order that was over $140 and when I received my order half of my items were missing and my two year old nephew had to go without dinner . Now it's one thing to forget something little but to miss a whole meal is absolutely ridiculous and when I called to ask them if I could come get the food that I was missing they said it was out of their hands and there wasn't anything they could do for me. I work in the customer service industry as well and I understand it can get a little overwhelming and you sometimes miss items in the orders but never once have I experienced the way my call was handled tonight . Beware of this place: they forget about you. I ordered two shakes in the "drive in" part of the restaurant by pushing the red button, paid and thought all was well. Twenty minutes go by, and after watching several other cars be served and leave, I pushed the button again wondering about my order. I get assured "it'll be right out". It never came. I had to shout to a person delivering food to get anyone else to serve me because the button is useless, and this individual, who I assume was some kind of shift lead, then basically ACCUSES ME OF LYING claiming that his guys said they brought it out. We never received it! He has a "new crew" he says, but no apology no making it right, nothing. It's been thirty minutes at this point, I've wasted gas in my tank idling the car in 90 degree heat, and I ask for a refund. He does so, although I still don't see the money back on my card, so I essentially wasted gas to be accused of lying, leave empty handed and furious. STEER CLEAR: the overpriced ice cream is not worth it. read more

Sometimes you just want to go get a milkshake in your pajamas. That's really about all this place is good for. The service is awful, the location is hard to get in and out of, and it's definitely not the best food. But, milkshakes in your pajamas. If you can stand to put real pants and shoes on, though, I recommend going down Route 30 and getting out of your car at Five Guys. Way more friendly and helpful service and the shakes are worth the extra effort. I was reminded of that on this last trip to Sonic. read more

I'm not usually one to leave bad reviews but this one just made me so upset. First off, we sat in the drive through for almost 5 minutes solely discussing what I wanted on my sandwich. Sonic Drive-In on route 30, Lincoln Highway East in Lancaster Pa. They just built this Sonic last august. They are way more common down south (we went to a friends in Fort Benning, Georgia and they must have had 4 Sonics in town) You can pull into the locatio nand they have like 25 drive-up menus where you jsut park and order. then after a certain amount of time the waitress brings it out to your car. They have great overpriced milkshakes. I dont like the idea that you cant pay with cash at the drive thru window though. Good, for fast food. I stop here on my way to visit family. Best soda's and drinks. Diet Dr. Pepper... with Limes and Cherries (WOW!) and the happy hour 2-4pm when drinks are 1/2 off, brilliant! Sonic, at long last I found you! Darn your temptations. You aren't what I was expecting. Wow, so I actually found a Sonic! I had seen their commercials for YEARS, in MD, NYC and here but NEVER had seen an actually Sonic in real life. I never believed they actually existed until I went to Lancaster to the outlets. Their ads made my mouth water with the crazy combination drinks that no other places dreamed of doing. Oh man, I was so happy when I found it. My happiness died though. Died quick. Real quick. I convinced my wife we NEEDED to go there. I insisted and wouldn't take no for an answer. She relunctantly agreed. I immediately ordered the Lime slushie because that's the one thing I knew I wanted for years from their ads. We ended up getting a couple wraps and chicken sandwhich and fries. Paid at the terminal. Waited. Kept waiting. I kept thinking this food better be worth the YEARS wait plus this long wait. Finally the food came 25 minutes later. I wasn't that into the whole drive-in theme but whatever, I was all about the food. The wraps were bland and TINY. I could have ate 4 and still been hungry and I am a thin guy. The fries were soggy and just gross. I don't remember the chicken sandwhich which doesn't bode well. Now for the slushie. Eh. Half melted lime syrup with bits of crushed ice. Pull into the drive in and park and order and WHAM with in minutes your food is at your car window with a smile and friendly service. There's only one Sonic where I come from (Long Island) and its a bit of a drive. So while enjoying a three day weekend in Lancaster and enjoying the wonderful food options it has to offer my arteries were in need of a greasy fix. Instead of eating in our car, we opted to order and eat at the outside tables in the front of the fast food chain. It was s beautiful day out and I don't like getting in my car the next day to find that lingering fast food smell. That was a decision I quickly came to regret. The place was swarming with bees. They had no problem inspecting your food if you let them. We had to switch tables it was so bad. Also, the garbage cans were overfilled. That probably didn't help with the bee problem. So far as the food goes, it was Sonic. If you don't know it by now something is wrong. :) I chowed down on a Number 1 and my wife had a pretzel dog with a cookie dough milkshake. Yum! read more

Like others, I have never had the opportunity to experience a Sonic, so when we drove by it, we had to stop. In the end, it is a fast food place with the novelty of still being a drive-up car-hop type of place. The burgers are good - you can debate the qualities of them vs. MickeyD's or BK on your own. I'd put them above McDonald's, but below BK, except in size. But its not like they are In n' Out burgers or anything. Nice touch is the availability of tater tots instead of fries. Worth trying to say you've tried, but don't prepare to be blown away. read more

After hearing about it for years, I finally gave Sonic a try while visiting PA for the weekend. The whole drive-in "experince" was LAME and kind of annoying. After some confusion, we ordered our food (the person taking our order kept cutting us off and repeating back the wrong thing). The food came out very quickly- almost too fast. They got the condiments on my gf's burger completely wrong. The burgers were okay...but nothing to write home about. The tater tots were tasty, if not a bit salty. I guess the highlight was my gf's limeade. If we come again, it will be in the afternoon for their Happy Hour drink specials and no food. I know it's their gimmick, but Sonic may have received three stars from me if you could sit down and eat. (There were a few picnic tables but they were in use.) Never have an issue while purchasing food at this sonic location. Everything is always fresh and made to order. Shakes are made with real fruits. I usually tip the waitress/waiter delivering the food to the car. This location is clean and there are a few tables to eat at if you don't want to eat in your car, which is a plus.
