A friend and I ordered the Bee Kind pizza on their Mini Monday special which is a 6x6 Detroit style pizza, a side of onion rings, and a couple of IPAs to wash it all down with. I've never had Detroit style pizza mainly because it never really interested me (not a fan of thick doughy pizza) and I already know based on the "real" Detroit style pizzas that I've seen, this isn't that. In fact, it was thinner than I expected but no complaints here. Anyway, it was absolutely bangin'. Big bold flavors that jump out and is very rich. This pizza satisfied my craving for SURE. The 6x6 sounded a lot bigger on paper, but it was actually pretty small when it came out. It's a good snack for 2 people, but for 1 person it would definitely be filling. Their onion rings were FIRE. Seriously. Some of the best onion rings I've had in a long time. Very well seasoned breading and perfectly cooked. The breading was crispy, but not crunchy. I love craggly, thick onion rings, but sometimes those do a number on the roof of your mouth. These? I could eat 'em all day. Service was great although it did kinda take a little too long for the food to come out, but I guess it was worth the wait. I love the inside of the space too. It's an old building with some character to it. I will definitely be back!

We were fine with it, and were given two menus and told to sit anywhere we wanted. After 15 minutes, no servers had come out to take drink orders or anything, so my boyfriend went inside to ask if someone could come take our order. I looked around the patio area and realized there were two other tables whose patrons were there before us, waiting for drinks and service, just like we were. One of them was fanning herself with the menu, as it was close to 100° outside. (There are no misters on the patio, just a slight breeze now and then. And, if you sit near the patio entrance, you should know that the huge dryer vents from the adjacent hotel are pushing hot air into the patio.) My boyfriend came back and said that he was told "someone will be out soon", and he noticed that all the servers were watching the soccer game inside. We waited another minute or so, and decided to leave and find another place for lunch. We were so glad we left...we ended up at Gus's BBQ across the way, and OMG...save yourself the trouble of the weak menu & non-existent service at The Back Abbey and walk over to Gus's. You won't regret it!

Fresh, flavorful... no notes. That being said... the place. I wanted to like it. But there were so many factors that I was just not enjoying. For one, the temperature in there is so stuffy. They have fans going but it's just not enough. The air coming in from outside the entrance door was so much better than the fan. I can't imagine how horrible it must have felt during the heat wave. Plenty of seating, but the "bar" area vs the seating is separated by a wall it almost feels like the people sitting at the bar are exclusive. It's not inviting at all. The barrels in the main room are kind of a burden to weave around if people are hanging around them. That wall just needs to go, or maybe the bar area should have been in the bigger room instead. I don't know. It just felt very uninviting. I didn't get a chance to play video games because it was so darn hot in the rooms. The bathroom was great. Nice and clean. The only downside is that there's only one bathroom. And it's in a room smack in the middle of everything. I would come back for a special event, but other than that, it's definitely not somewhere I felt comfortable relaxing at.

We really appreciated how accommodating everyone was and would absolutely recommend them for anyone looking for a relaxed, fun place to host a large gathering or celebration! We had such a great experience celebrating my dad's retirement at Pro Five Brewery! From my first call, their team (Nick and Rudy) was reassuring, cordial, and incredibly easy to work with. They were one of the few places I found that could comfortably accommodate a large group, they take reservations for parties of up to 36 but will work with you to meet your event needs. They made planning easy by allowing us to pre-order shareable plates and set up drink tickets for our guests. The food was delicious! The shareable menu had somewhat limited vegetarian options, but it wasn't an issue since we were able to order additional vegetarian dishes from the regular menu. They also let you bring in your own small deserts so we brought in mini-Bundt cakes and it was the perfect compliment. Keep in mind, they don't have space for you to place food in their fridges so we did have some melted frosting but nothing we couldn't work around. What really stood out was how attentive and flexible the staff was throughout the evening, forgive me for not remembering everyone's names but our even was on 9/25 :) so you know who you are! We were originally set up at picnic tables, but once they saw that we had a slightly older crowd, they had no problem moving us to a more comfortable table setup. That small gesture was really appreciated. The space itself is great for gatherings. The indoor area is a bit smaller than the outdoor seating area, so the patio gives larger groups plenty of room to spread out. They're also dog-friendly, which is always a nice bonus! We loved playing with Ollie :) The live music was another highlight. "Checkered Daydreams" was fantastic! The band fed off the energy of our group, and our group fed right back into theirs. They adjusted their music and creating the perfect vibe for dancing. It made the celebration that much more fun and memorable. Our party ran from about 5:45 PM to just before 9 PM, which ended up being the perfect amount of time. Even with a large party and live music happening, service was timely and the crew remained attentive throughout the night.
