    Pork tamale
    Demetrius G.

I heard about this place from my sister so I decided to stop by since it's close by my workplace. I tried the pork tamale, and it was delicious! The meat was seasoned and the red sauce was very good. The masa was good, could have used a little sauce for extra flavor. I will be back to try other tamales!

The café de olla coffee was good, the location is a small hole in the wall with only outside seating. I'm a picky chilaquiles critic, so I'm sure most people would be delighted, but I felt the white raw onion overpowered the flavor. The meat was okay, what I call cheap meat, with an off texture and flavor. The salad verde was delicious, and the rice was okay it was very soft and mushy like bean consistency. There were too many raw pieces of white onion that also threw off the flavor. Overall, it was a good average plate of chilaquiles, hence the 3 stars. The location was clean, but there was no menu when I arrived, so I just ordered what I wanted without knowing what was available.

Their beef tamales are hot and delicious. I prefer their beef over their pork tamales. Their chips and salsas tasted like it was made fresh.

Honestly, I was skeptical about the place because of the prices and the lack of good pictures but decided to take one for the team and try them out. I didn't think anything could justify the price of the tamales but honestly they are larger than most and hefty. I would say it's about 1.5 times the size of a regular tamal. I got the green chicken and red pork and they were both really great ! I also had the asada sope, while I'm not sure if the sope was made in house or not the flavors were still great. Also i can't forget about their guacamole , it was delicious ! Definitely recommend people try it out !

    Trash

The worst ever!!! Jalapeño and cheese tamale with fake cheese or cheese sauce it's disgusting The nerves to sale this trash u can find better in a parking lot or street corner!! And for $4 yuck!!!

Living in the IE for over 15 years, it's hard to find a good authentic place. This place is actually under new management and they have a variety of Mexican dishes. Everybody is very polite super friendly. The food is really good and I am picky about food they actually have something going on Friday through Sunday. They have a buffet now where you get to try a little bit of everything. The ambience is great. The buffet consist of many Guisados and posole also seafood and homemade taco station.

As of now 1 star due to inaccurate business. Establishment was closed upon arrival. There hours online and on their door states a 6 pm closure arrived just under 15 minutes before closing and they were already shut down.

Pricy Tamales but the tamale size is fairly large, and the beef had a good portion of meat as well as flavor.

But some shady charges or maybe we'll call it miscommunication just rubbed me the wrong way. I always order the mole chicken enchiladas and my wife (being vegetarian) asks for the same dish but if the enchiladas can be vegetable or cheese. Apparently this means a 8$ up charge? We've done this many times in the past and always been charged the same price for both. I asked the server at the end "the veggie version is 8$ more expensive than chicken?" And he just shrugged and said yes. Just found it interesting that a meat dish would be 8$ less than a purely cheese/veggie dish. Especially since done this in the past with no issue. I also asked for "hot sauce" for my dish. They brought out a spicier house salsa as the hot sauce...totally understandable and the salsa here is usually free. Apparently it's a 4$ "chipotle sauce" that the waiter did not inform me would be charged. I would've easily just said I want tapatio or no "hot sauce". I used maybe a teaspoon for 4$. I told the waiter this when we questioned the bill and he just shrugged. These may seem like small inconveniences but when they seem like they intentionally don't tell you the details and then when called out about it just kinda shrug it off, it was a disappointing end to an otherwise tasty dinner. We love it here and will certainly be back but it just sucks that I have to be extra cautious & skeptical when ordering from now on.

After trying Chef José's Zacatecan style fare, consider a new addition bullseyed and pinpointed! I'd stumbled in here a few nights ago- Mexico had just defeated a hearty South Korea squad in their second WC game, clinching the Group for El Tri and creating a palpable buzz among the Green/Orange & Red clad partisans who'd thronged El Ranchero... Leti and I shared a bowl of hearty Albondigas Soup to start- This is probably the finest restaurant take on the soup we've ever sampled! Most places will serve watery, tomato/carrot dense broths w/ a nominal, wan meatball. Not El Ranchero! Here, the soup is lovingly ladled w/ copious amounts of carrot, onion, cabbage and yes even a trio of meatballs. Hearty, decadent soup! We also shared a Jamaica Margarita. On the plus side it's $13 tab is decently priced- but if we are honest the drink was weaker than the Trump Administration is on corruption! Leti chose Shrimp Fajitas, which arrived steaming...Multiple fat shrimp partying w/ grilled onions + peppers. I went w/ a two item combo- A fantastic duo of machaca filled enchilada y taco. The machaca was everything you love re: that protein- Stringy, crispy and well seasoned. Xochitl was our server on this late SAT afternoon as the sun began its lazy descent to the western horizon. The rest of the restaurant staff were busily prepping the banquet room for a graduation party- So poor Xoxhitl was jamming like a trio of cats playing w/ a dozen mice. She was even mixing drinks in between serving her sextet of tables! Pro Tip- You can add a side salad or soup to most entrees for $3.99- Just ask! Our bill was $84 and for two plentiful entrees, a large if wan margarita and a side of wondrous, soul-warming soup...plus tax and tip. It's very easy to see why El Ranchero Claremont is a buzzing hub of its community- We've added El Ranchero to our must-visit Mexican staples. So should you.

It was Taco Tuesday, and we were excited to see fresh tortillas being made. Unfortunately, instead of serving fresh tortillas, they opened the container holding older tortillas and plated those for us. We ordered three different meats, but when our food arrived, every single item was cold. The tortillas were so cold they had become hard and stiff instead of soft and fresh. When we mentioned it to the staff, we were told the food gets cold because they have a fan blowing directly toward it. That's not really an acceptable explanation Between the inconsistent seating, poor customer service, and cold, flavorless food, the experience was extremely disappointing. We left feeling unwelcome, and the food itself was far from the authentic Mexican cuisine we were hoping for. Sadly, we won't be returning.
