Had a wonderful meal in this cozy out of the way tapas restaurant. While we waited on the delicious paella we enjoyed the squash blossom stuffed with chevre and a share-able skipjack/bonito small plate with cream cheese on a pistachio cracker and fresh edible flowers on top. When the made to order paella arrived, we found it to have lots of seafood for two. This is a perfect, old Barcelona experience with lots of old world character. This could easily have been a five star review, if not for one unfortunate dish. Most of the food was delicious. We got the crab "don't touch my eggs", queen clam ceviche and corn, wild boar with sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts, cauliflower with eel, butarga, and strawberries, sea urchin, and steamed wild cabbage and rabbit roll. The sea urchin came in a cleared out urchin and was incredibly fresh, not containing a lot of the unpleasantness that accompanies subpar uni. Their steamed wild cabbage and rabbit roll was delicious as well, not particularly gamy, which is something I always look out for when eating rabbit. The whole plate was full of umami goodness. The wild boar wasn't gamy either. The only issue was the queen clam ceviche. The first clam had a smell that actually reminded me in the moment of an open latrine. Being of the culture that willingly makes and eats stinky tofu, I decided to keep an open mind and give it a try, and it tasted about like what you would expect from the smell. Then, for science I picked up a second clam and it smelled fine and tasted citrusy and clam-like. Another person in my party also experienced a huge discrepancy in the quality of two clams, so it seems like some of them had gone bad. Luckily, neither of us had stomach issues, so even though it was bad, it wasn't dangerous. Still, be wary if you try this dish. It will be really obvious if a clam is bad. It's too bad, because the rest of the food was amazing. The waiters were extremely helpful and spoke good english, and they had every single dish written out in english on a chalkboard. It's definitely worth trying. Just be careful with the ceviche. read more

Nice locatie in the middle of Barceloneto in Barcelona. It has a great atmosphere and it looks pretty old. It's not very touristic, but the menu is in English. The tapas are really suprising. After a week trying various restaurants, I can confidently say that this was the case. Of course we Yelped this place and it was a HIT! We ordered the seafood paella for 16€. They let you know that it'll take at least 30-40 mins so we ordered a few tapas to hold us up until it arrived. Potatoes with spiced sauce tasted great, the potatoes were cooked and salted perfectly, the sauce was different from the others I have tired and it was delicious. The Sangria was strong, but smooth. As we were waiting for our paella the waitress was updating the menu as the fresh produce got delivered. Once the paella come, it was over! So far I'd say it's the best I've had here. I loved Somorrostro. It was my second favorite meal in Barcelona. The menu is large, with plenty of amazing tapas choices. We ordered so many different things because it all looked so delicious! FOOD: 1. Grilled seafood mix was awesome; variety of clams, mussels, prawns. 2. Cod Fish Cannelloni with white beans was amazing. 3. Duck Magret with sweet potato and passion fruit was really good, but took forever to be served to us. Not sure if this dish takes longer to cook, or if the server forgot about it. 4. Black Rice with smoked Sardine and Rabbit was one of my FAVORITES! I can't believe how packed with flavor this amazing dish is, but it looks so boring! Don't be fooled, order this! 5. Red Shrimp from Barcelona was great, very fresh and juicy, however we didn't realize this was so expensive at 20EUR for only 4 shrimp. Opps. All the other dishes are half this price, so we should have noticed. 6. Steamed Mussels were great.. actually much better tasting than the mussels in the grilled seafood mix. And the sauce was wonderful, order bread to dip in the sauce. 7. Oyster with Passion fruit was very nice, raw on the half shell. 8. DESSERT: Burrata with Cocoa and Fig bread was amazing! I've never had a chocolate paired with burrata before. Very unique and so delicious! We didn't order the Paella because we ordered so much other food. But my friend who ate here the following day said it was fantastic, one of his favorites. Great find, great food, great prices overall. The staff was very nice and sat us with no reservations for lunch. But the restaurant itself is small, so I would imagine it would be very busy during prime dinner hours. Sangria was great too! We found this place on yelp and debated taking an Uber 2 miles out to check it out, but we are so glad we did. They had a rotating menu of elevated tapas. The food was very fresh, and delicious. It was by far the best value of any of the food we ate in Spain-it wasn't cheap by any means, but food of this caliber would easily cost double in California. Great restaurant, location is great for a tourist visiting Barcelona for the first time simply because you get a "locals" feel. The food came fast and was extremely tasty. Service was okay, the chefs seemed to have more personality then the servers. One chef smiled and greeted me, another gave me a big smile and asked how many seats we need and the servers just kinda ignored us, but for me that's minor. Great paella! Best of 3 that we tried on a two week trip to Spain. Much of the menu is locally sourced and organic. The Thai Green Papaya salad was one of the more interesting (and healthy) side dishes we were able to find on our trip. A little heavy on the dressing, but definitely fresh and tasty! Flavor was ok, but I can't over the fact they charge $20pp for a pan that is meant to serve one. With the depth of the pan, they could have definitely put more rice at least... SO delicious!! One of the best meals I've ever had, DEFINITELY the best paella I've had in my life. The seafood paella is a fairly large serving and we could see the chef make it in the kitchen to our peripheral (it is a little bit of a wait because of the process to make paella). However, in that time, we had steamed mussels as an appetizer as well as sipped sangria, which made the wait pass quickly! There are plenty of other tapa choices but we were in a bit of a financial bind (traveling student struggles..) The paella was fresh with lots of seafood and the rice was perfect -- not too hard or soft/tacky like in some other restaurants, and the ambiance was nice and homey. Definitely recommend checking it out! While a possible complaint could be that for a seafood-focused restaurant, it's not particularly close to the water, I am confident in saying that we didn't fall for the tourist traps by the water (like where the waiters kept trying to hand me a Chinese menu even though I definitely don't know what "paella" is in Chinese..) In addition, it felt like we were paying for quality and genuine paella meal, and not a touristy experience. For three more petite girls, the paella + mussels were sufficient but didn't make us 100% full. Would definitely recommend dipping into the other appetizers if you can afford to! read more

Amazing! Went here for lunch around 4pm on a Tuesday. It was our last meal before we returned home. And it was the best thing we probably ate in Barcelona and MORE. (We have been in Barcelona for about 5 days already) We got the mussels, oysters, clams w/corn, the rice with octopus, and the carob fingers. All were delicious. Our total was perfect. AVOID Pallea here, if you are American!!! This place does not provide a typical taste you are familiar with back home. I would not say it's authentic because I don't know how authentic tastes like. Or maybe this is just too authentic for me. I had much better Pallea with yellow rice elsewhere even on every crew ships I've been on . Rice here is not even yellow and it's just too salty, no other flavors at all and I mean it. Seafood on top was abundant and fresh but rice itself is just so poor. People here are either Yelp or TripAdvisor trapped. We also ordered catch of the day (8eur), red sangria (15eur for 1litre) and panna cotta (4.5eur). They are ok but not worth the money, especially Pallea for 2 (28eur)! I can't believe that it's even a recommended dish. Big Scam! read more
