Everything is automated so you order on the kiosk and wait for your order to be made. There are a couple tables to eat at outside the store. I got two taiyaki with hotteok filling (cinnamon sugar with peanuts) and it was delicious. The ice cream flavors were banana pudding, ube, cookies n cream, and matcha. Flavors rotate weekly. They validate parking which is a plus. There is a tablet at the pick up counter to scan your ticket.
My friends & I needed a spot after hitting a couple rounds of satisfying kbbq. A lot of places in Ktown were closing for opertaing hours, but luckily, this Somisomi was rather a couple minutes away. Located on the 2nd floor in the iconic MaDang Courtyard, there's a reason why this place is always bustlin'. Classic soft serve in delicious Asian flavors + whimsical fish-shaped waffle cone stuffed with delicious fillings [Ah-Boong (아붕)] + topped with a delicious garnish = winning combination. Ordering is done by 1 of 2 kiosks. This makes for a rather efficient process as there are droves of customers up until closing. The staff is very hardworking as definitely know how to hustle. It was just a couple of minutes after ordering that my order was ready. FOOD: Banana Pudding Soft Serve + Oreo Crumbs + Biscoff Crumbles + Fruity Pebbles. Ah-Boong stuffed with custard. Macaron = 9.4 / 10 As a banana cream pie fan (and a fan of banana in my desserts), this is such a good way to go. I rarely see -if ever- see banana-flavored frozen desserts. The Ah-Boong provides all the necessary contrasts: hot, crispy edges, with fluffy, chewy interior. The creamy, cool custards cuts through the coldness of the soft serve. This epic combination hit all the flavor & textural spots that my mouth & tongue could possibly enjoy. You can't go wrong with "America's Favorite Cookie" as crumbles. the Biscoff crumbles provide subtle caramel notes. The Fruity Pebbles trigger that classic nostalgia of sugary sweet crisp. The whole thing is like a "flavor orgy" in my mouth & that's not necessarily a bad thing. The macaron made for a nice finish. Although I couldn't really tell the flavor (strawberry?) the texture is like a really delicious styrofoam. Pro-Tip - Go with your Ah-Boong on the side. Everyone in my group had an unexpected surprise of their fillings spilling over onto the floor. Admittedly, I'm a bit OCD & I'm not exactly a fan of my cone becoming partially soggy + touching my soft serve. It's the crispy, crunchy contrast of the Ah-Boong that you really want to keep intact. The plaza is also a great walking area (shopping when open). It's great for dates, or just hanging-out with friends. Note the legendary movie theater - CGV Cinemas Movie Theater (now known as The Regency Koreatown) on the third floor that offer Korean film showings. Shoutout to Luis for being an outstanding employee & a chill, cool dude. Bro deserves a raise for being such an M.V.P. of a worker with the friendliest demeanor.

Personally, I'm always surprised by the strawberry milk -- it is exactly as the name implies it is, but I do think the ones they sell here are just nicer! If I bring a friend, sometimes, we'll make our own swirls if the one we like isn't available since the 3 swirls are switched out weekly (usually).

One of the greatest benefits of having Lactaid on hand is being able to pair the crispy-chewy, pancake-like texture of the ah-boong with an ever-rotating cast of soft serve flavors from cookies n' cream and matcha, to cookie butter and banana pudding. Service was quick! The place is small, so the line tends to go out the door, but don't be discouraged! There were around 15 people ahead of me when I got there and I still got my ah-boong in less than 10 minutes. I ordered the Upside down ah-boong filled with nutella and banana pudding soft serve ($6.95) -- the perfect sweet treat to end any night night in Koreatown!

I got the banana pudding flavor in a cup, and it was delicious. They do banana so well; it doesn't have that artificial banana taste at all. The texture was creamy and perfect. Located on the second floor next to Sul & Beans. There's no indoor seating, but there's plenty of parking available in the parking garage. Highly recommend for a quick and tasty dessert.
Came here after KBBQ for some dessert. I got the earl grey ice cream and Nutella filled (fish) idk how to spell it LOL. The staff was super friendly. The place was clean as well and the ordering system was organized and easy! Overall it was great and the ice cream was amazing!!

One of my favorites dessert places in ktown! It never misses and you get a big portion~ I normally go for the ube matcha or milk flavors with added oreo crumb and matcha powder + strawberry! This location also validates parking and has spots to hang around at. Inside is a small shop but its easy to order and pickup.
Such a solid spot you really can't go wrong. Now I personally love eating all the flavors and having multiple options but with the 5-6 flavors and the many different toppings and fillings. It gives you a chance to put things you normally wouldn't think of putting together. For example I had the matcha and ube ice cream with Black sesame. And I realized that on its own. The sesame was overpowering. But when mixed it was such a unique balance and engaged all my taste buds. They offer free toppings at the end too which is a delight! They don't do tastings. You order on the machine. The store front is frowned when you get 4 people inside. Service is quick. Not a ton of seating outside. Make sure you get your parking validated otherwise it'll cost you a pretty penny.

There's usually a long line, but the turnover is hella fast so it moves quicker than you'd expect. They have a lot of experimental flavors and fillings, plus toppings are free, which is always nice. If you're lactose sensitive, this is actually a solid option. The ice cream texture is good, though it does lean on the sweeter side. Ordering is done through kiosks and everything runs efficiently once you're up. There's nowhere to sit, but it's an easy five-minute eat outside anyway. Somi Somi was sooooo goood! I got the ube soft serve with matcha custard taiyaki, and it was absolutely incredible. The ube was rich, creamy, and had that perfect balance of sweetness and earthiness. Pairing it with the warm matcha custard-filled taiyaki was a genius move,the flavors complemented each other beautifully. The taiyaki was fresh out of the griddle, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with just the right amount of matcha filling. Presentation was on point, too,it looked as good as it tasted. Got the coco chips and fruity pebbles. Service was quick and friendly despite the line, and the store was clean and cheerful. Definitely one of my favorite dessert spots in the area. Just had lunch and was walking around the shopping center when we came upon Somisomi. They had Taiyaki (5pc) for $9.75 which was a great deal. We ordered Black Sesame Taiyaki (not a fan of this one), Custard Taiyaki (it was good, but I want the taiyaki cooked a bit longer), Nutella Taiyaki, Red Bean Taiyaki, Oreo Taiyaki all were good but Oreo was the winner for me. We had soft-serve Ube with strawberry Topping In a Cup $4.50. One of the best tasting ube soft-serve I've had. Service was friendly, they also have kiosks you can order from. One of the many stores in the building with H-Mart, they have available outside seating. read more
Love this branch. Occasionally has test flavors (peach as of June 7th). The line moves fast with two kiosks to order. The soft serve consistency is always reliable. The peach flavor was so good- on the sweet side and tasted like the peachy gummy candies. I wish they included more filling inside the taiyaki. Parking is available in the lot. read more
I love Somi Somi! I've been coming to this location for years now, I wish they weren't so busy sometimes. The service is quick but sometimes the taiyaki wouldn't be as fresh and warm so it doesn't have its normal crisp. But that's okay, I still enjoyed the ube and matcha! Parking is convenient and free with validation, which is a huge plus in Koreatown! read more

came for dessert after eating near the area around 9pm on a friday and there was basically no line!! i looove somi somi and madang plaza gets real crowded so i'm happy we didn't have to wait. they have two ordering screens that make it very convenient. i put in my order on the little device and they basically immediately called my name and asked which toppings i want. this time, i tried the matcha and cookies & cream swirl with the taiyaki on top with nutella filling. every time i try to be adventurous and get a matcha swirled with something other than ube, i end up regretting it bc i realize i prefer the matcha alone. the cookies & cream flavor overpowered the matcha more than i liked, but it was still suuppper good. i love the taiyaki and how you can choose the filling - def my fav part. it can melt pretty quick so eat fast! i like how they ask if you have allergies to hazelnut/almonds bc of the macaron and nutella. the vibes of this place are perfect at night to enjoy dessert and hang out with friends. will def be back! read more
Somi Somi is a soft serve and taiyaki chain located all around the West Coast and especially in SoCal. This location is in the Madang Plaza in Koreatown so there's a bunch of different places you can walk around. You order through tablets and they call your name to get your order. We came specifically to try the Seventeen collaboration flavor, but we love Somi Somi for a nice sweet treat anytime. Dessert The Seventeen collaboration flavor was honeydew or the honeydew and ube swirl. We tried both as the upside down ahboong for $7 each. They also came with stickers and a postcard. This means they came with a taikyaki on top that had a filling inside. You can also add toppings at the end and either a strawberry or macaron. The honeydew flavor itself was so good; if this were a regular flavor, I'd always order it. It tastes like a melona but a little less sweet and the warm taiyaki paired perfectly. I found myself in Ktown with an extra hour or two before I was going to a cooking class nearby, and I thought what better treat than ice cream on a summer day! Just enough to fill me up, but not make it feel too full. I never expected to get such a large experience out of such a tiny little location. To fill my Ah-boong, I did what I always do when I go to a new location with a wide variety of choices, I asked the person working there with their favorite was. I chose upside down Ah-boong because with all the fillings, I figured it would be a huge mess if I tried to stuff it all into the little Fish cone. I started with a custard filling which I actually totally forgot about, so when I bid into the cone and it was in there, that was just another layer of joy for me! For the ice cream I went with a Matcha swirl, I think swirled with the Dalgona (limited time only) and I added Biscoff crumbles! Then I got to choose a macaroon or strawberry and chose the cookie. The many different flavors and textures all came thru clearly and each bite was like a dream come true! Now that I understand the way it is assembled next time I may be brave enough to order the ice cream in the fish cone! To wash it down, and because I love cute packaging, I got the somi somi cold brew coffee. Fantastic flavor and not bitter! Definitely want to try the coffee float and strawberry milk! Somisomi has always been one of my fav spots but now I'm here to make it one of your favorites too. I've been coming to this exactly location for couple years now and every time the first thing I notice is how clean the place is kept , that is very important to me when it come to eating at the place ! The workers are amazing always welcoming and with a smile on their face . Today I tried the Ube flavor with Nutella filling and my friend had the cookies and cream , they were both amazing however , the Ube was maybe in first place . It's not always you get the perfect amount of taste and I did here today which was amazing . It's a super chill spot to come and hand with friends for a quick catch up or a simple ice cream date night . read more
Went to SomiSomi and tried their Upside Down Ahboong with Earl grey ice cream and black sesame filling. Somisomi is tucked away in a cute plaza that has a parking structure connected to it. The line there was a bit long but went by quickly. They have two kiosks to order from and once your order is ready you have the option of choosing between a strawberry or macaron shell and some other toppings. I chose the macaron shell and Captain Crunch sprinkles. The early grey ice cream was really really good. Will definitely be getting it again and it worked well with the Captain Crunch. The black sesame filling was tasty but flavor wise it did not mesh well with the earl grey so I'll probably try a different filling next time. I'm craving it again already, can't wait for the next time I go! read more

After eating MDK noodles nearby, we wanted to explore the Madang Mall and get the famous aboong (fish shaped waffle) and korean ice cream! I always adored Somisomi ever since they first opened in 2016, and I wanted to introduce my partner to the amazing dessert! We walked in on a weekday night. The location is small but service is very fast, they have kiosks to order from and there is limited seating outside. We both got the upside down ahboong (i'm always clumsy with ice cream and always end up with ice cream hands hahaha). I got mine with ube and nutella filling for the waffle, a macaron, orea crumbs, and coconut flake toppings. My partner got the limited flavor cookies n cream & horchata ice cream with custard filling for the waffle, and a macaron topping. Their waffles and ice cream are always so, so delicious! Definitely coming here again! read more
I was today years old when I learned that the Somi Somi next to me is a Lab store so they test their new flavors there. As cool as that is, we got all their flavors except the one they were testing which was dulce de leche lol. I love somi somi but I wish the flavors were stronger like matcha and ube specifically. I honestly like their taiyaki more than their ice cream and we learned to order the taiyaki separately from the soft serve to get fresh, softer ones. read more
SomiSomi in Koreatown is always a treat, and this visit was no different! We having with some bingsu at Sul Bing next door and decided to keep the dessert train going , no regrets! We got the taiyaki filled with custard and red bean, and paired it with bingsu injoelmi and black sesame flavors. Everything was spot-on. The bing su was cold and smooth and black sesame had that toasty, nutty kick we love. The taiyaki was warm, crispy on the outside, and filled perfectly. The custard was silky and not overly sweet, and the red bean was smooth and comforting. SomiSomi never disappoints. It's the perfect spot to cool off, satisfy your sweet tooth, and enjoy a cute, Insta-worthy dessert. 5 stars all day! read more

i loved somisomi so much! definitely coming back soon. it wasn't too busy as ppl say but i went at around 6 pm so maybe then it kinda dies down. the ice cream was so delicious and for the size, the price was great! i got it without the nutella fish on top and mine was.... i'm pretty sure $3.50!!! it's a teensy bit small inside but otherwise i totally recommend!! read more

Somisomi does their soft serve taiyaki ice cream well! I love their rotating Asian flavors that are just so good. Their taiyaki soft serve is always so consistent in rich in flavor and fish cones are always crunchy. We got the sweet corn and honeydew soft serve in a cup that allowed us to get free toppings! The sweet corn had a deep flavor and the honeydew flavor tasted like the actual fruit and a combo of melon Melona! These flavors paired so well with our Biscoff crumble topping and the macaroon. read more
If you like Somisomi then this location is worth checking out. It is their lab store which offers more flavors than other places and lab treats. For example they had banana milk soft serve which isn't offered at their regular spots. They even had a cold brew float, black sesame taiyaki, and matcha custard. I went with one other person to share an upside down ahboong banana milk soft serve. We got black sesame custard in our taiyaki. It was good but didn't expect the black sesame custard flavor to be so over powering. We still enjoyed everything though. This location is more of a grab a go type of spot. There's not seating inside or outside. It's next to a bingsoo spot so it can look really busy. I believe it's located on the 3rd floor of the plaza. I would come back to try other special flavors. read more

I am new to LA and saw this place while visiting Hmart. I was intrigued and upon pulling up their website, I saw the tagline "not too sweet" and I was immediately sold. I hate when desserts are too sweet. I really liked ordering from the digital kiosk, I felt less rushed during the process despite it being pretty busy. I got a fish waffle filled with Nutella and matcha soft serve. The matcha soft-serve was everything I could've wanted, beautiful flavor and just like they promised; not too sweet. I wouldn't get the Nutella again, I found they put way more than I would've desired and I don't think it paired well with the soft-serve. I don't like how they don't tell you what toppings they have on the menu, because when I retrieved my order I felt too rushed to really be able to look at the options. Not inside, but it's in the same mall/plaza as H-Mart, located on the second floor. Parking is free in the structure, you'll get 2 hours parking validation & Don't forget to get it validated!
Is black sesame a seasonal flavor or is it a permanent part of their menu? I haven't been here in a while but the last few times I went, black sesame was not a flavor option!

u are in a prime ktown location so if u are looking for korean bbq, Quarters is a good place. for some good soup and pork ribs, Hamji Park. Yelp both of them and see if it's something ud be interested in.
I saw some pictures with chocolate ice cream with banana, when I was there they didn't have those flavors. Do they rotate more than just the milk,ube, matcha, & black sesame?
I think/hope so! I went recently and was disappointed they didn't have banana as well. I've had it before a couple months ago and it was good. Not sure their exact schedule though.
