Classic The Gold Coast Breakfast Brunch Eggs, Ham and Cheddar Omelet Breakfast, French Toast Brunch Entree
Cherie G.

I loved this place ( we went for breakfast) we sat inside facing the outside area. Such a pretty place. Waitress and host great. Everything was delish and the coffee kept coming. We had the class eggs, French toasts and omelette. Definitely grab breakfast here on your Gold Coast trip.

I finally made it back to Somerset during this visit to Chicago! It didn't disappoint! I was with a family member and we decided to share all of the plates. We started with the Potato Leek soup. It was a great starter on a cold Chicago day. It had a very smooth and creamy texture, and was garnished with labneh and leek oil. Next up was the Salt Roasted Beets. Salt-roasting beets supposedly increases the moistness and sweetness of the beets. This dish was excellent. The beets were delicious and combined with the salad, whipped ricotta and a layer of crushed pistachios, it was an amazing side dish. Our main course, the Falafel sandwich and the Crispy Brussels Sprouts came together. We shared both, and to be honest, slicing the sandwich in half was a challenge, but we successfully managed to cut it. The falafels were accompanied with hummus and tzatziki. The falafels were crispy on the outside, with a savory chickpea flavor, and light and fluffy inside. The Brussels Sprouts were tender and soft, with a delectable glaze that made them irresistible. The lunch was great, and I hope I'll have an opportunity to return when I visit Chicago!

A little Fever Tree pop up where they offered samples of their zero-proof beverages with Instagram ready backdrops and a DJ pumping some Halloween music jams in the courtyard. This was very impromptu and very cute! I cannot really speak to the restaurant or menu here but it definitely piqued my interest to come back another day as we already had lunch down the street when we came by.

We went here for brunch to celebrate birthdays! The host was so sweet and went above beyond for our group. He took so many photos for us lol I wasnt to impressed with the menu, it's pretty basic. However the calamari was really good and the chicken&waffles was 10/10. They brought us a slice of cake of our birthdays, which was really sweet. But I do not think I would be excited to return. The restaurant isn't memorable to me for Chicago.

First off, the location is in a very busy area, so parking can be tricky--you might have to valet. We had a reservation for a party of 9, and while I understand policies about seating incomplete parties, the restaurant was not busy at all and had plenty of open tables, yet they still refused to seat us until most of our group arrived. That was frustrating, especially given how empty the place was. On the food side, it was a mixed bag. The Brussels sprouts were absolutely delicious, easily the highlight of the meal. The cinnamon roll, unfortunately, was super dry, and the shakshuka was way too sour--it really needed more herbs to balance the flavors. The burger was pretty standard, but the salted bun was a nice touch. What I did love was the ambiance--the open kitchen concept and all the natural light made for a great dining atmosphere.

Came here for dinner and drinks and really liked it! Thought the service and ambience were great. The weather was beautiful so got to sit outside, but the inside looked very nice too. For drinks I had the ciao-biscus and tajinarito. Both were great, albeit a little diluted. For food we tried the crispy pretzel calamari, herb crusted salmon, and baba ganoush. Highly recommend the salmon! It was plentiful, cooked well, and tasty. Skip the calamari - there was hardly any and it didn't taste of pretzels. The baba ganoush was good. Overall had a great experience and would come back! Recommend!

Nice outdoor seating

Normally, we don't look to eat at restaurants in hotels. However, looking at the reviews of Somerset and their menu made us ignore that thought. The inside dining room of the Somerset is very nice and has a nice bar with a TV. The outdoor seating is exceptional, and being a nice day outside made us land there. Our wait person, Liz, quickly greeted us and brought menus and water to us. We ordered a couple of nice cocktails, the Peachy Clean and the Spice is Right. They both were very tasty. The Burrata with strawberry compote sounded terrific. We also decided to split the Prix Fixe Menu for lunch. Our first course was butternut squash soup. It was quite thick with pepitas in it. It was extraordinarily delicious, some of the best we've ever had. The Burrata was accompanied with perfectly cooked ciabatta and was a fantastic dish for the table. Our second course was the herb crusted salmon with lentils and white asparagus in a yummy berbere sauce. The salmon was cooked exactly per our request. We will definitely get this unique salmon dish again! Our dessert was very good key lime cheesecake with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. The restaurant was getting quite busy. All of the staff, including Trish, the manager, was helping everyone else out. Adam, the bartender, came to tell us they were out of the red wine I had ordered. What was really sharp was that he brought a sample of a similar wine that he thought I would like instead. Besides being very friendly, our wait person, Liz, was helpful informing us about different menu items. Overall, our experience at Somerset was one of the best we've had in a long time. And, fyi, the Viceroy, the hotel that houses the Somerset seems quite nice.

I was looking for a bougie brunch and this place definitely hit the mark! Connected to the hotel, it's a beautiful chic space inside. We got a reservation without any issues for a large group. Service was great, our waitress was super friendly. I ordered the short rib shakshuka and the skillet sticky bun. The sticky bun was to die for. I don't even really like sweets but it was so hot, fresh, and cinnamoney. Perfect for sharing because of its size. Maybe one of the best cinnamon buns I've ever had in a long time! The shakshuka was good but not the best. Overall, sauce was very tasty and the sourdough bread was fresh. Unfortunately, the short rib meat missed the mark a bit. I thought it would be the fall off the bone kind of meat and instead it was kinda tough for a short rib. If they had more tender meat or picked another type of meat, I'd be much happier. I did get a taste of my coworkers lobster benedict and wish I ordered that instead. Definitely would come back again and order the lobster benedict and the cinnamon bun, but not the shakshuka. Cool ambiance and great service!

Breakfast Sandwich with crispy potatoes.

I went to the Somerset by myself on a business trip. The food, service and ambiance were amazing. The coffee was fresh and I never had to wait for a refill. I sat near the window and enjoyed the view while waiting for my food. I had the breakfast sandwich which had homemade chicken sausage (patty) and crispy potatoes. I don't usually eat the potatoes but they were so good! Hope to come back soon!

Osasu the manager today was lovely and attentive to me without my asking. She went above and beyond and made my experience great! The food was good... the key lime cheesecake was not great bc the cheesecake itself didn't have much lime but the rest of this dessert was good! The ice cream, the coconut crumble, the whipped meringue... all yummy! The cous cous salad was very fresh and dressing homemade and good (I liked it on the side bc it's full of flavor and vinegar) and the duck pasta dish was flavorful. Ambience beautiful... lots of party events can take place here on 2 floors, nice outdoor seating, lovely bathrooms.

We had brunch here on a Saturday and it was 3/4 full seemed like. Made reservations but still waited alittle bit to get service at the table, so plan ahead. Once we ordered it was quick for the food to come out and it was all very good. If you are looking for a nice patio on a nice day, check it out for sure. The inside has a cool center bar that looks pretty iconic.

Açaí Yogurt Parfait With Coconut Milk Yogurt

Get some pretty good brunch at not crazy high prices for around here. It's actually open later too but it's best known for the good stuff it has in the morning. Somerset is a pretty casual and chillaxing place even though it looks upscale. Has a fairly good amount of typical breakfast favorites. The lunch and dinner has more things. At breakfast the group came and got seated and it wasn't busy yet so there wasn't a long wait like others may have. It was serving the brunch menu. The items were mostly breakfast but there was some lunch stuff too. Has some vegan and vegetarian choices. It's $12 for the Açaí Yogurt Parfait. Added a few bucks to substitute dairy free yogurt made with coconut. Simple yet a good day starting meal. As for the others they liked what they got. The portions were a bit small, which was the biggest complaint about the food it seems. Brunch is the most popular time to come. It has a pretty good variety of both the breakfast and lunch items. The menu also has options for vegans and vegetarians.

Eggs Benedict, French toast

The restaurant looks fancy but the brunch items tasted very average. The French toast was and eggs Benedict were all very average for a pretty steep price which is why it felt disappointing.

Worst meal I've ever had. Bland, each bite harder to chew than the last. Led to indigestion. Sorry but I should have sent the food back.

I was full well before my plate was empty, but I simply could not imagine reheating any part of it later. The egg was cooked to sunny-side perfection, and every bite was ridiculous. It's bar-style, so the fries came out first, hot and paired with a garlic aioli that absolutely did what it needed to do. Everyone moves with purpose. The bacon is truly the highlight, as most will tell you, not too chewy but a melt in your mouth thick cut bacon! Burger was cooked perfectly to order and The only thing that was a disappointment was the fries. Just not that great, not enough salt, but also the texture was off. Not worth the $8 2/5 Overall, it was a great experiment and I'd totally recommend you trying!

The presentation was on point, but unfortunately, the drink itself didn't quite live up to expectations. It wasn't served cold enough, and the sweetness was overpowering, with the syrup taking center stage and very little noticeable vodka flavor. While the aesthetics were there, the temperature and balance of the drink missed the mark. A little refinement in the mix and a properly chilled pour would go a long way toward making this a standout cocktail. The service could also use some improvement, as the staff could have been a bit more attentive. On the plus side, the space has a nice vibe, and the music strikes a good balance without being overly loud. Overall, the atmosphere makes for a pleasant setting, but there's room for improvement when it comes to the cocktail quality and service.

Nashville hot chicken didn't really taste like chicken and the pickles were dipped in a weird vinegar. The tenders also came with four breakfast pancakes...like what? The menu said the Nashville tenders came with scallion pancakes which is a savory Asian pancake...but these were 4 American breakfast pancakes. Bandit also didn't have any butter or syrup...so what the actual heck was supposed to happen to these pancakes-it was just a waste. I remember having this incredible kung pao cauliflower bites here and they said they changed the menu but still had cauliflower. I forgot to ask for them the kung pao style like the appetizer and I ordered them in buffalo sauce-two choice. The cauliflower was so droopy and squishy when I got it. The buffalo sauce only made it worse as none of it was crispy and the whole meal was drenched in buffalo sauce. It was a communication issue on my end for sure, but I also thought it was going to be much crispier and not soggy. The ranch definitely was mixed with water and it dropped off anything I put in it. Our server was a really nice lady and none of this was her fault as she tried to substitute the cauliflower. She was decently attentive and very busy as she started serving a large party of 10 next to us outside on the patio. Unfortunately I wouldn't come back here if someone paid me. I know this is more of a sports bar but for something that was around $75-theres definitely better tasting food literally everywhere else. The only good thing about this meal were the waffle fries which were probably frozen before serving but I'm trying to find the silver lining.

I believe there was a bit of an up-charge for this choice ($45) which was worth it in my opinion since the steak was cooked to perfection and offered the right amount of protein. The hash browns were pretty standard and didn't really stand out. For my side I ordered the sausage links which were pretty tasty. I will say I wish they offered more veggie-based sides like a small salad besides fruit, bacon, sausage, eggs your way, and hash browns which were already part of my meal. My friend ordered the burger which she mentioned she enjoyed! Our waitress was very on top of service and would refill our mimosas frequently.
