One of my favorite spots to grab breakfast and coffee on-the-go. I typically stop by here when I'm visiting SF for a work trip because service is fast and the food is high quality. Highly recommend the Croque madame - the egg oozes through the sandwich. When the yolk gets absorbed by the ciabatta bread... YUM. Anyways, this place can get extremely crowded around the peak lunch/dinner hours and may make it difficult to find a table. The decor and layout of this place is actually pretty cool, complete with take-out pickup line, a large bar and a ton of craft drinks, juices and other drinks. The food is a bit small in portions but healthy and delicious. The egg salad sandwich was good, BLT was awesome and the salads look pretty delicious. This snappy spot epitomizes what most of us residents like to think of as the SoMa style. Tall ceilings, industrial-chic decor, rustic wood posts, a splash of teal to bring some urban whimsy to the place. Let's start with their ambitious hours: 7AM-10PM, every day except Sunday. That's not the way it works here apparently. When Jamie W. tried coming here on a Saturday night at 8PM, it was closed. Completely dark. No staff. No craft beer to be had. Nada. Perhaps no one stopped in for a half-hour. Bored much? So what? If a business doesn't fulfill its published schedule, then they should add "...or whenever we feel like closing" And what about not being open on Sunday when we SoMa residents are looking for sustenance and a beer on our purported day of rest? That would have made it the ideal neighborhood hangout. Ah, but there's still time, and let me share the upside. The food is quite good here. I had to order dinner for a small dinner meeting in the city. SOMA Eats was near the meeting location, so I thought I would give a shot at ordering from there. I ordered the meal around noon online to be picked up at 5:30pm. When I arrived at the place around 5:30pm, my order was ready to pick up right at 5:30pm. Their manager told me that he had set aside the 7 cookies I ordered for my order, but it looked like someone sold them. He apologized and said he only had two cookies left which he gave me and asked if I wanted a refund on the cookies or to grab some chocolates. This actually worked out well for my meeting because only two people actually asked for cookies, and I had bought everyone a cookie (because why not give everyone something a little sweet?). I opted to get some chocolates for the meeting, which were a hit with everyone. Food: From what I can tell, everyone enjoyed their food. What I ordered - Salmon Nicoise Sandwich - This is like a tuna fish sandwich meets an egg salad but with salmon instead of tuna. I enjoyed my sandwich, and it was pretty flavorful with the sundried tomato tapenade. Service: Thought service was great. It is amazing to order your food in advance and it being actually ready when you want it to be. The perfect spot to grab a quick bite! The staff are friendly, service is speedy, and the environment is cute and casual. I ordered the Spinach, Date, and Goat Cheese salad - super delicious and filling! All of the ingredients go so well together. Everything tastes fresh and the portions are generous. I grabbed a RAW drink as well, which I highly recommend if you want something refreshing and nutritious to go with your meal. Definitely stop by this place if you work nearby or are in the area. I have worked a block over from SOMA Eats for about two years and have been coming here regularly. This is one of the most dependable restaurants in the area and always has food that is fresh, quick, and generally healthy : ) Their salads are especially hearty and amazing. I LOVE the goat cheese and fig one so much. It is a pretty big portion so you definitely won't leave here hungry. Also I have a great experience with the soups and salads. The turkey meatloaf sandwich and the tomato mascarpone soup are both bommmb! Highly recommend. The prices are slightly higher than other lunches but I think they make it worth it. ALSO their beer selection is crazy huge! Both on tap and bottles/cans. I haven't gotten a chance to drink here yet but I see it every time I come in for lunch and wish it was after work. Wonderfully calming and subtly design oriented space with great attention to detail, from the physical structure of the place, to the design accents, to the display of the food and drinks. The stores manager greeted me and was so warm and generous with walking me through what was available and finding out exactly which order would be best - since everything sounded so good and I had a hard time picking between things. I've dropped into SOMA Eats a few times for their meatloaf sandwich, and while I've enjoyed it and would return - how it's been prepared has been a wide range of not-spicy to almost too spicy for me to eat. It's always incredibly busy at this location and we usually get into the express line, but I tend to prefer to go to Proper Foods down the street as their pre-prepared meals and ease of checkout are much easier to deal with. read more

I stopped in for takeout around 8 pm on a Wednesday night while in town for a conference. The place was pretty empty--about 3-4 other parties in the restaurant. Not knowing what to really expect, the ambience was much fancier than I had imagined given that you order at a counter. They had a very large selection of bottled/draft beer and wine but a rather limited food menu. I believe there were a few salads and 3-4 sandwiches. I ordered the turkey meatloaf sandwich and side cranberry salad. While the turkey meatloaf sandwich was certainly the most interesting I've ever had, full of indian spices and peppadew peppers, it was a bit too spiced to the point of being overwhelming. It could use some sort of dairy based sauce or a sweet component to even out the flavors. The cranberry side salad was really good, with plenty of cranberries, walnuts and goat cheese, but the dressing was a bit too oily. Overall the food was good but could be improved. I was really surprised by how huge the salad is here, and only for $10! I came here at dinnertime and it was mostly empty, but the space is huge with seating inside and outside, which would be great for a company happy hour or large event. I ordered the New Greek Salad, which came with generous portions of chickpeas and chicken. These days it's hard to pay $10 for a salad with that much protein. I ate half and still had a good amount left for lunch the following day. The dressing is really tasty and zesty, and the chickpeas and avocado will really fill you up. Good thing is that that there are a number of tables but a lot of bar area seating. So, it didn't seem like seating was an issue. This is one of my go to places when I want a tasty, healthy meal. Their salad bowls are very large. I can never finish it in one go. But the sandwiches are on the smaller side. The lamb tagine special is my personal favorite. They had a pomegranate chicken special one time which was to die for! It sold out pretty quickly. Bit of a wait, smaller portion but a great sandwich! Went here on a Friday to pick up lunch. It was pretty packed. The line at billing moved fast but it took a while (10 mins maybe) to get the food. I really wanted a hot sandwich - the only Vegetarian option they have was a BLT and zaatar sandwich without the bacon. I was a bit skeptical when I ordered but it turned out to be fantastic. The bread isn't toasted which was a nice surprise. The veggies were fresh. The egg and avocado in particular blended brilliantly. It was a like a super nice homemade sandwich. In a rush, I asked if he could prepare the yogurt quickly and he personally went to prepare my parfait to get me where I needed to go, which I appreciated. I met up with a girlfriend for lunch at Soma Eats and it was super crowded! I am glad that we met there right before noon as the seating filled up really quickly. We ordered at the counter, self-served our water, and sat down with our order number. The food came pretty quickly, about 5 minutes, and service was generally quick, but courteous. I ordered the new Greek salad and the soup of the day, which was corn chowder with granola. While I wasn't a big fan of the soup, as I felt it was too sweet, I felt that the salad was right down my alley taste-preference-wise. I usually order dressing on the side, but forgot in this case as I hadn't seen my friend in a long time and was distracted when ordering. However, the amount of dressing was actually quite perfect; there was enough to cover the leaves, but not overwhelming to the point where I felt like I was eating pure dressing. The chicken was a little dry, but the dressing rounded it out nicely with a moist mouthfeel. I liked the sun-dried tomato tapenade, but there was only about a tablespoon of it, making me wish I had more of to go around my salad. I My friend ordered a salmon salad, which she said was good. I must admit, I'm fine with those packets of apple cinnamon Quaker Oats oatmeal, but SOMA Eat's homemade steel cut oatmeal is such a light delight, it's lightly topped with honey, granola and fresh fruit. It has just the right amount of sweetness. I also enjoy their scrambled egg, cheese and bacon sandwich. It has the right amount of seasoning, maple bacon and sandwiched in between a toasted ciabatta. I went with the : Spinach, Date and Goat Cheese Salad $11.95 - Pulled chicken, almonds, goat cheese, shredded carrots, pickled red onions, dates, mixed greens , spinach, kale and croutons with a strone ground mustard and sumac vinaigrette Hearty and "different" type of salad that I enjoyed but didn't love. Ok I got the New Greek Salad w/ Eggplant and it was v bad. Compared to sweetgreen across the street, there was really few options and only 1 that was vegetarian, with no clear alternatives. When I asked if I could replace the chicken with something else the cashier was confused.. ?? I surely can't be the first to ask for that. Anyways, my salad just didn't taste that good, the ingredients like the chickpeas had some seasoning, but not enough to get the salad to be like oooo yummm. Can't take credit for picking this place but it was right up my alley. Also from the large crowd of people in there it's clear I am not the only one which thinks this. Awesome menu with great salads. I had the salmon salad and was really impressed, the creamy basil dressing was delicious, the salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly and it was a large portion so you were definitely full after the salmon and all the extras in the salad itself. The drink options in this place are plentiful, walls upon walls of drink options. It was fun to check out everything they have to offer, although I just went for a green juice there are all sorts or drinks that looked very enticing. Service was fast even though we were a large group and there were quite a few bar or counter spots for larger parties to sit for lunch.
