The check-in process is a nightmare! There's no designation for ordering from the window, ordering to go (sit outside), or sitting inside. We placed our name on the list and told 30 minutes. We stayed close by. We thought he called our name, but we verified and it wasn't us. People who checked in 10-20 minutes after us were then being seated before us. When we questioned, the older man said "we called your name!" Which wasn't true because we were standing about 8' from him and our name was never circled or crossed off the yellow paper list. We heard many names not being pronounced correctly such as him calling "Steve" about 6 times before seating another large party. When the Stone party inquired , they were told that he was calling "Steve" We were seated at the back, near the restroom, and people, without masks are lined up next to our table-very uncomfortable! They finally asked them to wait outdoors and opened the back door to shift the line. Way too many people were inside. The small booths that comfortably sit 2 adults and 2 small children were being seated with 5 adults (one chair in the walkway). With all the mess of getting seated, our server was amazing!!! So sweet, she checked in with us several times. She was 100!!! We ordered aebelskievers to share (We always get these when visiting). The raspberry sauce is delicious. We tried the danish sausage with mayo/mustard sauce, for the first time, and it was fantastic! Not at all what I expected...It tasted like a meatball. Visited for lunch 12pm on Thursday. They have a line for dine in and a line to just order aebleskivers, which is the popular Danish pancake with raspberry sauce and the option to add ice cream. We must have arrived just before the rush because we waited only 5 minutes for a table. We wanted to order more authentic things so my husband ordered the open faced sandwich plate which contained tilsit cheese, sliced ham with peas, sliced roast beef on pumpernickel, a danish meatball and potato salad and pickles. The Solvang Restaurant is probably most known for the aebleskiver, which is a Danish breakfast item. Note that they open early at 6am and close early at 3pm on weekdays. I expected a long wait for breakfast on a Monday morning, but it wasn't busy at all. The restaurant was clean inside, and I liked the booth seating. I ordered the aebleskiver just to try it. It turned out pretty good; I enjoyed the raspberry sauce. I think I like eating my pancakes rolled up into a ball instead of flat now. I got the Danish sausage just to try it too, but it tasted like the inside of a pork dumpling. It has a full pork and peppery onion taste, which is not what I would like for breakfast. I don't recommend it. My eating partner got the country fried steak as part of the two eggs breakfast. The food was pretty standard. Nothing stood out. Service was ok, not really there except to take the order and bring food. You have to bring your check and pay at the front. If you have a credit card, you have to include the tip as part of the total. I think I would try breakfast/brunch at a different location. It was a good experience going to Slovang Restaurant. My wife and I wanted to try something "authentic" and after doing research we heard Solvang was as authentic as it gets. Upon entering the restaurant we only waited 15 minutes which is reasonable based on how long I've heard people typically wait for during the weekend. I had the sausage platter which came with 4 types of sausages and included cabbage, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. I must say the sausages were good but nothing out of the ordinary. My wife orders the open face sandwich plate which has an assortment of smaller sandwiches. The experience was the same, nothing out of the ordinary. What we did really enjoy was the Aebleskiver which is a traditional Scandinavian Pasteur dessert stuffed jam and topped with ice cream. Overall the food was good. I was super excited to come to Solvang, a token "Little Denmark", especially to have fresh Ableskivers. A local bakery recommended I go to Solvang Restaurant to have some, and so I came to find my Danish Donut. Growing up, I went to a family Iowan farm for the summer where the grandparents would make these tasty delights for our breakfast treat. I remember them having a special crispy outside and a fluffy baked inside. Walking up to the restaurant my first red flag was that the outside window served the Ableskivers one way with powdered sugar and raspberry sauce. They made them by the masses and under a heat lamp. We received them and they were more or less a rolled up slightly sweeter pancake. ALL WRONG. I understand needing to make these in a way that could easily be fed to a mass amount of people. These were fed to many who didn't know what was good by the traditionalist on the Danish Iowa farm. But. This did not come close to that I expected. I still purchased a dozen to take back with me, and the raspberry jam was put in separate containers for later rather than pre drizzled on. They were put in a large donut box, so they were easy to carry. The family enjoyed them nonetheless. We were hungry and still had a drive home so my boyfriend also bought a danish sausage. This was Magic. It was full of flavor, juicy, and I almost stole his half. Perhaps this should be their specialty. This place gets 3/5 stars for the attempt at the donuts and because of the danish sausage - this made it better. The product still tasted good and they used the correct pan, but the execution doesn't meet the expectation for someone who really knows what Ableskivers are. Also, it would be great to offer more than just powdered sugar and raspberry jam. We used to enjoy cinnamon, strawberries, and many other delights with these delightful foods. read more

This is only a review of the aebelskiver since I came to the Solvang Restaurant specifically for this little dessert. To be honest, I personally wasn't a fan. Compared to the other dozens of bakeries in Solvang that you can go to, I would prefer to have gotten something somewhere else. When I walked up to the Solvang Restaurant, I noticed that they had a bunch of aebleskivers sitting under a heat lamp. And I should have taken this as a red flag, but this definitely means that the aebelskivers you're eating probably won't be made fresh. And I was right about this because as soon as I ordered, I was given three little aebelskivers. There was no time delay between ordering and receiving. Had they been made fresh to order, they may have tasted better. Essentially, the aebelskiver here tasted like a mashed up pancake that was made into a little ball. While pancakes are delicious, a heat lamp pancake isn't that great. To eat the little sucker, you definitely need a healthy dose of the jam that they include. Otherwise, it's pretty dry. These aebelskivers are apparently a specialty of Solvang. But, I could have gone without it. read more

Definitely don't miss out on ordering the aebleskivers. Another thing that I found tasty was the Danish sausages. Not very greasy but cooked just right. Even my toddler wanted a bite, which is rare because she's going through an oatmeal only phase. My only issue is the tight seating.
