He replaced the capacitor for one, and took the turntable for the other with him to fix. He brought it back the next day repaired. The work for both was over a thousand... maybe 1200 or so. Fast, efficient. Worth it... if it had ended there. But it didn't. The console with the replaced capacitor still had the same problem and the turntable had a new issue and wasn't playing out of one channel. These things happen, no problem... so I texted Chris this, and he would occasionally get back to me but would not commit to come out and finish the work. After months of this I started to get worried. Finally, two or three months later of hounding him constantly, I got him to come out to at least fix the turntable - but only AFTER I had diagnosed the issue myself (was simply a loose wire in the cartridge that needed soldering) and told him not to worry about the second console for now (which he said he'd have to take into his shop since he had no room) if that was what was preventing him from coming out. That worked. He came. Soldered the one wire and one player was working fully. I was happy for at least that. We discussed having him take the other console into his shop in a month or so when he had room and finish what he started... I knew there would extra costs and told him so. Nevertheless, he has stopped responding to any communication from me at all since that day. That was months ago now. Judging by other reviews on here about Chris ghosting them, I fear that is the treatment I'm getting and it's the last I've heard from him. I'll have to find someone else to finish the work I suppose.

Huh..well, I certainly never thought I'd be writing a review like this. I'm not even one to…read moretypically leave a Yelp review. I'll start off by saying I decided to take my business to this shop because of a recommendation from a good friend who had a great experience getting their synthesizer serviced. My initial phone call was pleasant. I'm unsure of the guy who works up front at Future Music but this phone call, dropping off the synth and picking up were all the same dude and he was nothing but cool. Really nice guy and good but quick conversation. Essentially I was having an issue with a Juno 60. I got in contact over email with Boomer. All initial correspondence was cordial. He seemed like a nice guy and understood I'd be driving from Bakersfield (2 hours away so a total of 8 hours to drop off and pick up). I dropped it off. He said it was finished and let me know the cost. I Venmo'd him immediately and drove down to pick it up the next day. This is where the silly problem started. I expected to receive some sort of work order/receipt showing what had been replaced, etc. You know.. what you get any time you have some sort of work done on an instrument anywhere ever? See, you never deal with Boomer (LA Synth Co which works alongside Future Music) in person/directly.. just over email. Which is fine. That's the way they do things. After I got home, tried it out and the synth is good as new. Great. I would like a copy of what exactly was done just to keep it for my records. So, I email Boomer this exact message: "Hey Boomer Picked up the Juno yesterday. Thanks so much for the work you did on it. I was hoping they would give me a receipt/work-order, itemizing what you had done. Just to throw in the case and keep for my records. Is it possible for you to make something like that up and send it over to me? Thanks again. So stoked to have it in great working order." of which his reply was: "Yeah. It will be a few days." That was Saturday November 21st. Today is Tuesday December 1st and I hadn't heard anything yet and just wanted to check back in. So, I sent this email: "Hey Boomer, just wanted to check in about this. Thanks a lot." of which his reply was: "You've now pissed me off. I'm one guy. I'm insanely busy. We just had a holiday. I have a life outside of work, too. You're on my list, but not at the top. Now I'm done with you cause this is entitled and annoying. Make your own." Uh, what? This was such a ridiculous way to reply when all I was doing was simply inquiring. Boomer, my man.. I'm sorry if you're overworked and overstressed. Your skin shouldn't be nearly this thin to not be able to accept someone emailing twice with such a simple request. I did send a reply but my email had been added to the dreaded BLACKLIST so I'm not longer able to contact him directly. So, to summarize.. the shop is cool. They seem to have a ton of cool gear. They obviously stay busy enough to be able to treat their customers like sh!t because return business must not mean much to them. This was such a bummer. I have lots of friends who are looking to get gear fixed up and was hoping I'd found somewhere to send them.

Not just because it is archaic but more importantly, every little thing I need fix (tune) required me to call my dealer who charges an arm and a leg. One day, all my speakers died, so I called my dealer, and they wanted my first born. So I decided to venture out and I found Definition AV. 1st, their service call price is very reasonable. They diagnosed the problem (the Amp died) surgically, but what's great about them is that they asked a lot of questions to truly understand my use cases. They recommended me to switch half of my system to SONOs and leave my living room TV's 5.1 audio system alone since it was still working. My previous dealer would had never recommended that because SONOs is more DIY and they would not be able to charge as much service money. Before they left, they even tuned up my 5.1 system just because they found some misconfigurations on they way. It sounded WAY better. I got the quote, the price is very reasonable and they came out quickly and upgraded my system. Now, my system works way better and I can use my voice control (my main method of controlling everything else in the house) to activate any speakers or speaker groups. I'll be a returning customer!

I left the item with a highly reputable audio repair center in Los Angeles, but unfortunately, they were unable to make any progress on restoring it after two years in the shop. The shopowners insisted that parts would have to be salvaged from other TEAC players and this could take a very long time. I resolved that I needed to do something about getting this item restored immediately. On account of this, I am very happy that I discovered Adrian's service center. I made phone call to Adrian, and he confidently assured me that he can get new parts installed in a matter of weeks. I retrieved my player from the first shop and brought it in the Adrian's shop within that same week. After a nice conversation explaining details about tape quality, he gave me an estimate immediately without even dismantling the unit. He provided two estimates, one basic restoration, and one that would bring the unit back to full factory TEAC specs. I opted for the latter, and this would involve what is known as a tape head relap. This meant bringing the unit to a 3rd party specialist that resurfaces the heads, as cleaners would be insufficient to get the job done. Out the door, the full cost of repairs was under $600 which is a bit less than I expected. But more importantly he promised all the repairs to be done in less than a month. He spoke with me later on the phone and discussed what kind of tapes I had on hand. Armed with this information, he was able to calibrate the bias on the machine for two kinds of tapes to optimize sound quality on recording. I brought the TEAC home last week, and immediately tested out some of my father's classic tapes, and the sound quality was just marvelous. I am so relieved that I discovered a local place in Los Angeles that can specifically repair such a rare commodity these days. I would shudder at having to ship such a fragile, bulky item across the country.
