We got a VHS/DVD combo from my husband's grandmother who passed away and after testing it we realized it's not powering. We wanted to fix it. Who used a VCR nowadays? Well, us, for work related transfers and as cinefile-s (some movies - and they're rare were never released passed the VHS era). I started to look into Electronic Repair stores in the area and there aren't many left. Not surprised, but it's LA, so luckily, there are a few left in business, like FET Electronics. I read the Yelp reviews, it was encouraging and bookmarked it! Fast forward 3 months later, we had another issue with a similar Panasonic model that we own, so we decided to give the place a shot. My husband called over, talked to Mark, the owner and felt reassured after their conversation because he identified the issues just over the phone. We stopped by one day and dropped them and met Mark, who is very nice, knowledgeable, a real professional. Not many like him left behind! Too bad that is a profession that is going away. You don't always feel like throwing out equipment that has an issue and get a new one, not always that easy for your set up. Everyone has their reasons! The place is in Burbank, on Burbank Blvd. (close to the Hollywood Way intersection), we found street parking in front. The store might seem small, but it goes all the way back! It's a geek electronics paradise, lots of audio equipment around. Mark also did work for major musicians like Van Halen among many others - check his photo gallery on the wall! Famed clients! We left the VCR-s, called in about 2 weeks and he fixed them, he was testing them to make sure! After a few days we picked them up, he checked them for us, and he gives you a 3 months warranty which is great. If you're in a rush, this might not work out since Mark is busy, but if you're patient, he will get it fixed in a few weeks. It's not cheap, but he gets high quality parts and it makes sense for the repair to last. If you have an old piece of equipment that needs to be fixed, Mark is the guy. Hurry in before he retires! He is very nice, kind, nice to chat with, reassuring, calm, and very, very knowledgeable, you will trust him on the spot. Closed in the weekend! I needed to fix my dads cd player. It's a really nice one and it only had a small issue where the cd door wouldn't open. I asked so many places if they could repair it but it was either super expensive or undoable. I looked inside the player and knew it was just a small piece that needed to be replaced. It's great that places like this still exist. Mark (owner) replaced the usb jack on my Micro Korg. Now it's no longer useless. Fet's glory days were during the big DAT phase of the recording industry in the 80's and 90's. Now that technology has moved on from this medium, Fet is open to fix anything analog. This was very disappointing. After going to this establishment because of the high ratings on yelp, I felt confident in the owner, Mark's abilities. I brought in a subwoofer amplifier that was very noisy. I received the unit back approximately three weeks later. Once I tested the unit at home it was clear that the noise was gone but the volume controls were no longer working and the only sound that came out was very loud distortion which was different from the original problem but worse an in it's own right. That night, I used the receipt that Mark texted me in order to make initial contact regarding the problem. The receipt is actually some type of review app, Squareup, that will register either a positive or negative experience. The next day, I called to follow up and Mark started yelling and screaming at me that "I ruined his reputation!". I explained to him over and over that that was not my intent, my intent was simply to initiate the warranty process which he stated that his work was guaranteed for 90 days. He continued to yell and scream, which at that point, I found extremely inappropriate for a business owner and gave me absolutely no confidence in having him do any further work on my audio equipment.
