Hello, I am from San Diego. I took my micro Seki turntable DDX 1000 for repair to Los Angeles. On .9/29/2025. The problem was the 33 RPM drifs. and my tone arm was frozen didn't move properly. The tone arm came with cartridge. after two weeks I received a phone call from George Meyer either the owner or manager telling me that the cartridge was broken that means it was already broken when I gave it to them. I told to them it was not broken and said to just fix the problem about the 33 RPM drift , then we will talk about the cartridge when I will pick it up. They told me it's not easy to find the part of the problem regarding the 33 RPM drifting, I said to them take your time and they told me OK. After five months I checked in again and they told me they couldn't fix the turntable, i said ok. When I went to Los Angeles to pick up the turntable the pitch control was missing a potentiometer. The potentiometer was the 33 RPM and I told them this is unacceptable. I understand you can't fix the problem but you can't give me back my turntable with broken cartridge and on top of that missing part. They told me it was like that when they received it. My mistake was when I gave them the turntableI didn't make a video. Who does that? They charge me $80 for the service. read more

A little money and a long time for nothing I wanted. I had a very old amplifier that was never high-end and stopped working. I called and I think M said it could be fixed without having to order special parts and I soon brought it there. Then after I was given the hourly cost of labor and paid an unannounced deposit, I was told it would take up to 2 weeks for the unit to be looked at. I called at 2 weeks. Nothing. All while I had no good useable music set-up. Repeat, with me asking for a technician to look soon. Never an apology. At about 5 weeks, I got an email estimate for around $900, indeed not requiring special-order parts. I soon tried to arrange a discount (basically with the deposit money) on a refurbished amp. Okay. Except after a little back and forth with M, including an email that wasn't read promptly by anyone there, just as I was about to drive over, it was sold to someone else. Days later, on my birthday which I mentioned, I basically said lower the repair cost or let me have a similar discount in the future if ever something I wanted was available or I'll just go ahead and leave a review like this. The person, already condescending on the call, said that would get me a hostile reaction, I said not on my birthday, and then M called right back talking about possible legal action and cursing a little. Also, I said I had the amp. I left it there and after being hassled to pick it up, out of my way, I forgot to bring the exact address and the signage is mediocre and I never found the place. I gradually forcibly stopped all communication. Right, that saga wasn't normal, and I've never experienced anything much like that. But if you're under warranty, the cost shouldn't be an issue, the technical competence probably is adequate, and you might have no other reasonable option. I broke a wire in the tonearm of my turntable. GM had already done a great job on putting a new power supply in my pre-amp, and they are an authorized repair facility for my turntable brand as well. Morris and Don were very accommodating in arranging to work on the turntable while I was in L.A.. The tone arm wires were replaced. They even fitted and adjusted a new cartridge for me. Everyone was courteous and professional. They are two for two, and will be my go-to repair shop for any hi-fi work I need in the future. read more

Sent in a speaker amp for repair. 1- I sent amp to them for repair. 2- They sent it back. 3- Amp failed the same way again. 4- Returned amp for repair again. 5- They claimed it worked and didn't fail, and said must be another problem in the speaker 6- The Failing speaker/ failing amp they sent me), I moved a good amp from the other speaker. The new swapped amp working fine in the failing speaker, indicating no problem with the speaker. Moving their failing amp to the other speaker, fails the same way. I told them all of this, twice they have worked on it(well technically only worked on it once) , twice they've been unable to fix it. They also lied about me not viewing a video they sent me, even though I responded in email about it twice with no response ever. Later they claimed on the return (2) they wanted me send the entire speaker to them, yet there was nothing in a follow up phone call, or email about it. Nor any mention of packing it up, insurance, liability etc. I would have refused anyways. Sending a rare and irreplaceable speaker via any service would be foolish at best. Great experience with GM AV. Brought my 1974 Pioneer SX 535 receiver to be repaired. Ali told me it would be $80 to look at it and I would receive a call in about 2 weeks with a quote. If I accepted the quote, the $80 would be credited towards the final bill. He told me to call in a week/week and a half and ask for him and he'd try to get it looked at then. I called after a week and a half and Ali told me he'd get a tech to look at the receiver. A few days later, I was given the quote. It was pretty much a complete rebuild. All capacitors and transistors needed replacing as well as power board and other things. The quote was more than I expected and I had to think about whether I wanted the 50 year old receiver repaired or just put the money towards a new amplifier. After thinking about it for a day, I decided to go forward with the repair. This receiver is a beauty and my wife loves the vintage look. Several days later Morris called to let me know the job was done. Upon pick-up, I thought I'd just be given the unit, pay for it, and leave. But Ali plugged in the receiver, attached a CD player and speakers. It sounded great. Then he played the stereo receiver for me. After I told him I mostly play records, he pulled out a turntable and attached it and played a record. Everything was working just as it had when I was a kid. After getting it home, I set up my system attaching my Pro ject Debut Carbon turntable and KLH Model 5 speakers. Wow! It sounds great and looks beautiful on top of my record cabinet. Service was excellent. Ali really took care of me and went out of his way to make sure I was a happy customer. Morris is a character and hell of nice guy. As I write this, I am enjoying some Miles Davis on my new (50 year old) receiver/amplifier. I recommend GM AV for all of your AV repair needs. read more

To start, let me first say, I recently fought a tough battle against George Meyer AV incompetence with my credit card company -- and won a complete refund. I am not unhappy about that...but what I went through for over four years simply trying to get my vintage audio equipment working properly was simply not worth it. I'm writing this e view to try to save you from the same disappointment and frustration. George Meyer AV is owned and managed by Morris Polonski. He can come across as a very nice man...but my experience was that he didn't care about me or my equipment if there was a problem. The long and short is: I took three piece of vintage gear to them in January 2020: A Marantz 250 power amp; a Marantz 140 power amp; and a Marantz 3200 preamplifier. These were all mid-1970s equipment.They needed capacitor updating. All were in excellent condition. That service on all three pieces of equipment cost over $1,000. If they had received a proper and thorough service -- George Meyer AV would never have seen me again and I would not have to tell you how apathetic their service was in my case. Then, I had to move during the pandemic. So things were boxed-up and stored for a while. When I got the system wired up again in 2023, I noticed the speakers didn't sound right. I drove them to George Meyer AV (four hours round trip) and they tested the speaker (audio signal sweep). They could not detect any problem. I went back home and still had sound reproduction issues. But what was it? One of the amps? The preamp? Trying to trace the problem to any one components proved fruitless...as it was actually all three piece of equipment that were never properly repaired (But I didn't realize that at that time. I found out the hard way!) So I finally decided to bite the bullet...and I took all three pieces back to George Meyer AV. After six weeks, they finally gave me an estimate. According to Morris, I needed to spend hundreds of dollars more on each piece of equipment! They said it was really bad not to play the equipment and to store them...and more internal components i.e capacitors had failed since the last service. So they blamed the problem on my for storing the equipment while I moved. What to do? Pay them to fix the equipment or have audio equipment that can't be used and played. I said to go ahead. When I got the equipment back, nothing was working correctly. Meters weren't calibrated, BIAS and DC Offset were not checked and set. The preamp had a buzzing noise in one channel (ground loop?). The lover edge of the faceplate on my Marantz 250 was gouged and damaged. It was a total cluster-you-know-what. I was beside myself with anger and disappointment. Morris did not respond to my emails or messages. He dodged me. While he said he would stand behind the repairs for two years and even drive to my home and pick-up the equipment if there was a problem -- he didn't mean it. He and I both knew he wasn't going to do it. At this point, I had had enough of George Meyer AV and enough of the driving back and forth to Los Angeles (four hours round trip) trying to get my equipment serviced and working. So I filed a dispute with my credit card company. I decided to send the equipment to another tech on the east coast regardless of the outcome of my dispute. At this point, I had too get the equipment working properly -- regardless of cost. I had an emotional attachment with my vintage equipment like most people do with theirs. The result of this tech's work was simply amazing. My system now sounds better than it did in 1974! The JBL 120ti speakers sound awesome now! It is so great to hear the difference this Marantz equipment makes when properly serviced and repaired. Its sounds like new! I could not be happier! And it cost me the same to have the equipment completely rebuilt and recapped with high quality brand parts as George Meyer AV charged me to put in a few cheap, non-branded capacitors at a 1000% markup! We replaced every capacitor George Meyer had put in. And then I found out I won the dispute against George Meyer AV! Hurrah! That's a win-win! But Morris saved face -- he fired his tech who worked on my equipment! He became the scapegoat. You must COMPLETELY rebuild these vintage units. You can't just change a few caps and say its fixed. That won't work. If you do, you are now on the audio repair merry-go-round. George Meyer likes to get you on the audio repair merry-go-round. Its financially lucrative. So do yourself a favor -- don't do business with George Meyer AV. You will get jerked around, overcharged, and your equipment will probably not be fixed to your satisfaction. Look for someone else to do the work. Find a small, quality shop. It's not easy...but the result will likely be much better and it will save you a lot of time and grief read more

I dropped off my Krell FPB600 stereo amp late last year, before the Christmas holidays. The problem it was exhibiting was an inordinate amount of AC hum, primarily in the left channel. In view of the holidays, I wasn't expecting an immediate response, however it took me making at least 3 inquiries late January to find out the status of the repair. I finally got a response and was told ALL of the capacitor needed to be replaced and that was the problem. It seemed obvious they hadn't really determined if that would address the problem, instead said NONE of the capacitors had EVER been changed therefore blindly resorted to this as the solution. That was the response I got when I asked if they were sure this would fix the issue. THIS was furthest from the truth. The majority of the caps had, in fact, been changed 5 years prior! The price I was quoted to do the repair was well over $4,000 without actually determining what the issue was! This coupled with this 'organization's' complete lack of professionalism (employees/managers loudly arguing in front of me as I waited to pick the unit up) confirmed my reservations regarding this not being the place I wanted my $9000 piece of high end gear to be worked on! Never again! And its unfortunate there are so few quality repair places to work on out of warranty high end gear. Bye Bye Georgey! read more

Brought a vintage pioneer Amp for repairs, and fast forward 2-3 months it was complete, but within a week it exhibited the same issue. No problem, they took it back for a redo. They did eventually complete the repair and the unit works and measures as good as new but it took well over a year to get the repair complete. Super nice staff, but the service took far longer than expected. Just be prepared for at least 3-4 months to upwards a year without your item. I actually have two of these amplifiers and have since tried another shop for a similar malfunction in my 2nd amp. Similar pricing, but the turn around was about 1 month. To be fair it's TBD on the quality of that repair from the second shop as I am still working it in. Pro Tip, if your unit is there longer than it should (they seem to have a more standard 3-4 month turn around) Ask for Morris, I believe he is the owner. Once I got in touch with him the repair started moving along again. Overall it's a good shop that does good work. And one of the few places that can service quality vintage gear so I want to support them, but a year+ turn around is just too long. read more

I give "George Meyer AV" five stars! I own a fair amount of 1960's vintage McIntosh equipment, and have been sending it back east for years (not always totally satisfied with the experience), until I found George Meyer AV. "George Meyer" is NOT the place to take your low-end consumer AV component. Skilled technicians are hard to come by these days, and cost money. Parts can also be very difficult to source, and finding a discontinued new old stock or serviceable part can take time. I have a background in electronics; however, I don't consider myself qualified to touch my expensive and rare audio equipment. Morris, the lead person at George Meyer runs a tight ship. My first time visiting their facility from the outside alley entrance was very positive. As I walked around the corner, I was immediately greeted by their employee who accepts all incoming and outgoing equipment. He jumped up and walked outside with me to transport my component into their shop. Morris immediately met us to go over what was wrong, do a preliminary inspection on the unit, and then assign a technician to the repair job. A week later I was contacted to explain what would be involved in the repair, as well as the cost estimate. I approved the repair, and was contacted a few days later informing me that my unit was repaired and ready for pickup. Upon my arrival, the gentleman at the desk retrieved my component and carried it out to my car. Yes, it was not inexpensive, however well worth the money considering the value of my component. I am the only owner of my high end McIntosh equipment beginning in 1974 and have added additional Mc components in the early 1990's when they were first produced. As the original owner, I have taken serious efforts to maintain the equipment in a stable, home environment. Over more than twenty years in Los Angeles, I have had these components serviced by George Meyer AV. It has been very expensive and, in my judgment, not well serviced. I didn't know of any alternatives. Recently, I called the factory in Binghamton, NY to ask if other authorized repair facilities worked on this equipment. In addition to George Meyer (Morris), they also added Audio Specialists in Valley Village (Howard). He did first class work and in a reasonable amount of time at a fair price. Having spent many years in the music industry, I've asked people about alternatives to George Meyer. Without an exception, each person felt they were overcharged and waited a long time. Audio Specialists is an honest company, in business for over 45 years. Reliable and reasonable both in price and time. Marconi Radio and TV Sales in Sun Valley is highly recommended by McIntosh retailers in Los Angeles. My recommendation is to stay away from George Meyer AV. Caveat emptor read more

Well, if I could find an emoji with a foot in my mouth....I would be glad to use it. I did question my initial interaction with George Meyer. I was trying to come from a real perspective. What i need to do know is say....I was wrong! I paid for my repair and picked my B&K amp up. Before they released the unit they did a thorough review to show me it was working. I took the unit home and after tinkering with it (switching speaker leads from one amp) I had the leads in my hand and fell into another amp's speaker lead. POOF! I took it back to George Meyer and to true to their word, they fixed it again. I just paid for some parts! I can't begin to say how relieved I was that they helped me out and the repair was $31. Dropped an amp off 6-1-2023 for repair . Took 3 months to get a follow up. Was told it needed all capacitors. I authorized repair and didn't receive any updates . Had to call every time to get an update. Once the unit was done I was contacted and told them out of town on an anniversary trip and would pick it up on return . For some reason I still got a call everyday asking to pay over the phone. The called everyday for payment but never called to give an update. I picked up the unit and the unit still had the same problem. Called them immediately and they said to take it back for a recheck. Left it again for another 3 months waiting for an update so I decided to show up and see what's happening. The said they were waiting for some connectors to come in that happened to be sitting on the counter . I was told I'd get an update that week. I didn't . Kept calling for updates and kept being told it's still being looked at. Paul was the person that I had to keep calling and wouldn't get updated for from. After another month they said they confirm the problem but still needed to look at it. Still no call backs. The said they would order a replacement unit . Finally 4/16/2025 I brought it home. When installing it thought I notice they gave me the previous generation model and not the same as I had given them. I quickly brought it to their attention and the said it was only to see if I still have the same problem. Now 5 weeks later replacement unit is still working. I've emailed them numerous times letting them know that and no reply. I requested my same model unit or a refund for not fixing it the unit I brought in. No replies. read more

I was directed by NAD to the nearest certified repair shop near me, which was George Meyer AV. After shipping them my amplifier, which was in need of a few capacitor replacements, I was given a ridiculous quote of $850+. After asking around I was old by other technicians that this price is outrageous and highway robbery, and that cost of parts would be $50-$100, and the rest is just a surcharge on their end. So I request my unit back, and they say they're going to pack it for me, then quote me a return price. So not only do they hold your equipment for a ransom, you have to pay their number just to get it back. This is not a reputable shop, and they are priced to gouge you for what they can. My McIntosh CD player was repaired by them three times in ten years even though it had minimal use. I understand the unit needs to be used instead of sitting. However, the last repair this week found one of the belts came off inside. I have decided to use Audio Specialists in Valley Village. Howard is very honest and delivered right in time. I feel that Morris and group are overpriced and too many excuses for delays. His place on Jefferson has several steps up from the street. Had to wait for two and a half months for my CD player to be repaired. George Meyer thought they had ordered a part but they had not. I had to call them seven times and their response was that they were waiting for the part - that they had never ordered. Finally I had to contact the manufacturer to find out what had happened - or in this case had not happened. When I went in to pick up the CD player there was no apology for the delay and George Meyer staff kept insisting that there was a delay on the part of the manufacturer. I showed them the manufacturer' email to me and they didn't even bother to apologize. I politely requested a discount and after a lot of back and forth they discounted a pitiful amount from the bill. In sum George Meyer has no quality control, takes no responsibility for their (non) actions, and wouldn't know an apology even in the most egregious situation where they clearly dropped the ball. read more
