We did a lot of research and got bids from multiple providers before selecting Solar4America to install our 33-panel solar system in Fontana last fall. They were slightly more expensive than some of the other bids, but we have absolutely no regrets, and we definitely got a great system. Jessica was our project coordinator, and she was always on top of things and was very communicative. The installation crew did a top notch job, including painting the new under-eave electrical conduit to match the house. The installers were very professional, and they did a complete cleanup afterwards. Brent was our salesperson, and he walked us through everything so that we knew what all would be involved before we signed. Terms --------- We paid in segments at each phase of the installation using multiple charges to our credit card so as not to go over the credit limit, and in order to use our credit card's cash back feature. There was no surcharge for paying with a credit card. Solar4America also gave us plenty of discounts (check their website and their TV ads for specials). Cost ------- We're happy with the installation and the results. We now pay $11-14 per month instead of $300 a month or more during the summer. We bank electrical credit every month, and the 30% IRS tax credit didn't hurt either (2019 is the last year for that). With the cash back from our credit card, the electric bill savings, and the tax credit, we expect to fully amortize the installation cost within 6-7 years. Passed on Backup Battery ------------------------------------ We did not opt for a backup battery because those need to be installed indoors, and we didn't have free wall space in our garage. We have newer all-underground utilities, and we've only had one brief brownout in the time we have lived here. We now generate sufficient power during the typical brownout periods to have sufficient solar-generated power so that we're no impacted by any future brownouts or rolling blackouts. Equipment --------------- Our panels were made in the USA by Mission Solar, and generate 2.77MWh. Solar4America uses Solar Edge for system monitoring, which we can access online, and which reports any problems with the panels, We sometimes get 60-mph wind gusts, and we have had no problems with the panels. Bird Guard --------------- Our neighbors have pigeon roosting problems, so we opted for the bird guard add-on to prevent birds and rodents from nesting and defecating underneath the panels (suggest that you investigate bird guards online and watch some of the videos to see if you think that is worth the additional expense, which is charged by the foot). Positioning and Results -------------------------------- Zillow has our Sun Number as 77.18. Our home faces east, so we opted to install all panels on the back (west) side rather than position some on the garage and the south side of our house. It's nice that no panels are visible from the street. On clear days, we start generating sufficient power for anything except major appliances and air conditioning within an hour after sunrise even though there is no direct sunlight on the panels. We get the full benefit of power generation from midday until late in the afternoon, which is when our utility company charges the highest rate. On clear days, we are fully self-powered and banking credit by mid-morning. On cloudy days, we typically generate about 60+% of our peak power. We even generate a small amount of power just before the sun sets. Installation Timeline ------------------------------------- (1) a 1-hour inspection to verify the roof structural integrity (nice that it was done by a professional roofing company), and to get the details to create the actual installation plan and building permit application, (2) next, a one or two-day installation about a month later (after the building permit is issued and the panels arrive), (3) a 30-minute follow-up inspection and system test (add extra time if you buy a bird guard, since it is installed after the post installation inspection), and (4) then another two to three week wait for your utility to issue a permit to operate (PTO) before the system can be turned on. Conclusion --------------- Our daughter used another provider for the solar installation she had done at her new home just a few months before ours was done. Unfortunately, she did not have the same positive results that we had with Solar4America. Extremely happy with Petersen Dean. read more

I started searching for solar about a year ago and came upon petersen dean. What swayed me towards them was made in the usa panels and they had been in business for awhile (not an overnight solar place). I liked the fact that they only carried the one type of panel and inverters. A lot of places I called kept changing the prices and panels to fit my budget which just made me think twice. If your just selling me what ever panel fits my budget how good can the warranty be years from now if that company isn't around who makes the panels etc. From the start working with Ross from petersen dean was great. Always answered my questions right away,called back same day and made everything easy. I also worked with Minnie who was just as professional with great customer service. After all was said and done I got 36 panels installed and pretty much eliminated my bill. I pay about .98 cents during these hot summer months (7-1-17). I have 3 bedroom house, a pool,a shop,guest house,etc. My house is 1750 square feet if that helps anyone else out and my shop and guest house add another 1200 square feet I believe. The shop and guest house run ac and heat as well. The panels keep up just fine with a lot of use. I pay $198 a month and bought the system. I used the rebate to pay down the system to get the payment low. Hopefully that info will help someone with cost etc. I never had any issues besides a few clay roof panels they put up that didn't match the rest of mine and they didn't Paint the conduit properly. But they came out the next day and fixed things. They also had a recall o8n a few things and contacted me to take care of it. I think that's what you pay for. We signed a contract in March 2019 with Petersen Dean to reroof and add solar panels. June 17th was our install date. No one showed up so I called the project manager. I was told that no one was coming out until I approved a change order. What change order? The head of sales called me later to say that the original contracted amount was incorrect and that it would cost an additional $8,000. He tells me this three months after we signed the contract. So, I'm put in a bind on the day the roof was to be installed. I called BS. Switch and bait. Worst company I've ever dealt with. read more

We were sold a product that they knew we could not use and in the end didn't have a permit. After the permit debacle they tried to upsell us $8,000 for the type of roof that we could use which we refuse to pay becuz we were already in a contract as a CASH PAYMENT YES CASH!when its finally said and done we had $2,000 worth of water damage and they did complete the job but, it took him three months to do it! bottom line be careful with this company they took advantage of my wife while I was gone read more

My wife and I just had our third roof installed by PetersenDean. It is an old bed and breakfast inn that had three old layers of asphalt shingles. One of the layers had asbestos contained in the shingles The two other roofers I contacted made no mention of this and when I brought it up they said it was no big deal. However the representative from PetersenDean informed me that there was a protocol for removing and disposing of this hazardous material. Having used PetersenDean in the past I hired them again for this project. They were not the low bid. However they consistently demonstrate professionalism and competence. The old roofs came off (while we remained open) and great safety was also demonstrated for our guest. The new heavy duty shingles went on without a hitch and they cleaned up perfectly. So while looking at solar companies here on yelp. I had a live chat Conversation with an individual from Petersen Dean. During the conversation I informed him we were a small farm that wanted to have solar placed on our (fixed in place, city permitted) barn to help with our electric bill for the farm. After our conversation, he had his assistant call me that asked the same questions to confirm what was said in the live chat. I again informed them that we are a farm that would like solar placed on our barn to help offset our electric bill for the farm. She again asked if the barn is fixed in place and city permitted. In which I again told them yes. She then asked how much we spend on electricity to confirm if solar would help us. Once it was determined that they could help us with lowering our bill. She then transferred me to someone to schedule an appt for a quote. That lady again asked me all the same questions and again I told them for the third time that we were wanting to get solar on our barn to help with the electric bill for the farm. She at that point placed me on hold for about 10 mins. She then comes back on to inform me that they cant do barns, that they only do residential. So why couldn't the first person I talked to inform me of this. It seems to me that Petersen Dean doesn't want business from any farmers and just wants to waste people's time. I was on the phone with them from start to finish for about 50 minutes. No worries here Petersen Dean, you won't be getting our business. We have 3 other companies to choose from. read more

The entire process was very painless, and they had my system installed in only 5 hours! I would give them 5 stars if it weren't for their deceptive marketing and advertising practices. In all of their marketing and promotional literature (as well as their "about us" wording on Yelp), they boast about only using American made panels, inverters and racking. This is true of the panels, but alas, that's the only American made part of my installation. My inverters (Enphase) are made in China. As is my racking (Magerack). I've raised this issue with PD more than several times, and have yet to receive ANY response. In the end, you certainly do get a quality installation with PD, but be sure you know up front that regardless of what they tell you or put in writing, they DO NOT use all American made products in their installations. I would have no problem with the origin of the products (Enphase is probably the best name in microinverter technology, and the racking is just a bunch of aluminum), but I just wish they would be completely honest in their sourcing and not try to deceive the public into thinking they are being patriotic and using all American made products. On Edit: My thanks to Jim Petersen for responding to my advertising concerns below. I've since spoken with the president of their solar division and they've made everything right. Apparently the use of Chinese racking on my project was due to supply issues with their normal vendor and the decision to use this supplier was made at a lower level without the knowledge or approval from top management. PD has offered to replace the Chinese racking with their USA made racking. That's what I call commitment to customer support! Additionally, the use of Enphase microinverters is not part of their standard package, and the advertising verbiage is based on their central inverter systems (which are all-American). They've revised their contracts to reflect the fact that by choosing microinverters, all components may not be American made, so customers are well informed ahead of time. I've gladly revised my review to 5-stars! Petersen Dean has gone out of their way to make things right with me, and I know future customers will benefit from the dialog that this review has opened up between PD and me. This review is NOT based on work done...just about their website and lack of information. So I heard an ad for this company on KFI and since I had a roof leak I figured I would call them. I looked at the website and saw that they primarily do solar install. They did mention roof repair so I called them. The customer service person was very nice and helpful. When all was said and done I was told that because they did not put the roof on the house or the solar panels on the house they would not be able to bid on a leak repair job. I completely understand that but if you would have made mention of that somewhere on the website then I would have not wasted my time (or yours) on the phone. read more

Don't really know if it had to do with foot traffic from installation, being that it was on other side of roof or just needed to be fixed because its old. P&D came out after we got a quote from a roofing company and P&D fixed it for free. I teared up with emotion when Jose said he will take care of it. This really made my year. Sales person Marvin Jimenez was great. Knowledgeable and professional. That's all the good I can say. Once the operations team got involved things went down hill. They used a subcontractor that was amateur at best. Installation took a month on a simple solar and subpanel install. Seriously a month. Should have taken a day for install and a week for inspection. Nope there was a 3 day lag in communication between subcontractor and ops team. I actually had to tell the ops team that the sub panel wasnt done because they thought the subcontractor completed. Well a month of return trips from the subcontractor and failed inspections I finally spoke to the operations manager since I called him. Gilbert Villareal had every opportunity to save my customer experience but only got involved when I called him. He told me that we should finish installation and he would make it right once complete. Well his idea of making it right was blaming the subcontractor and offering a less than 1% discount. I didn't pick the subcontractor nor did I pay them so i don't care if it was all the subcontractors fault. Gilbert and the operations team need training in customer service and need to learn to under promise and over deliver. At this point every time I hear a Jim Petersen commercial I want to vomit. Go elsewhere- sometimes you don't get what you pay for, I payed top dollar and got a poor quality installation and crap customer service. read more

This is our second home that we had solar installed. First, Richard Bruce is so professional, knowledgeable, and represents this great company he works for extremely well. The entire process, was quick and easy, and Richard was always there if there was ever a question. The panels, made in the U.S.A., are of very high quality and we had to have fewer panels installed with this home then we did with another company that used panels that were imported. Yes they both produce electricity but Patterson Dean's American made panels are more efficient and I don't know of any other company out there that will give you the warranty and after purchase care. The installation of the panels and inverter were great. They did a great job installing everything and it looks great. The problem I have is during the installation one of the guys stepped on one of the 2x4's above the kitchen while in the attic and it broke. It caused a crack in my kitchen ceiling. What was great is the man who did it told my wife about it and apologized. He said he would fix the 2x4 the same day and for my wife not to worry . He also said Petersen Dean would send someone out to fix it the ceiling. The installers were very professional and courteous to my wife. 5 stars for the installers. Petersen Dean sent a guy that knew nothing about paint. He basically took a sample and went to Home Depot to get paint. His problem is he got a satin when its a flat paint. He kept on trying to match it but couldn't. Now it looks like I had a water leak in my ceiling. This happened in October 2014 and i've been getting the run around ever since. I've spoke to a representative numerous times to try to resolve this matter and haven't got anywhere. The representative told me she was going to look for painters and never did. So I had to look for a painter to come out and give me an estimate. The painter who came out said he would have to paint the whole ceiling since the guy from Petersen dean messed it up. That he would need to primer the area that looked like a giant water spot or else the paint would bleed through. The estimate was for $700. I emailed the representative with the estimate and she called me telling me that she spoke to one of her managers. Her manager told her they would only give me $500 to get it painted. I told her how is that? I didn't cause the damage on my ceiling and now you want me to come out of my pocket $200. Doesn't seem fair to me. She told me she would have to speak to a manager to get it approved. After a couple of weeks it was approved and she would be sending a check for $700 to paint the ceiling. I received the checks and one for $250 was made out to me and the other for $450 was made out to the company that was going to do the painting. Well i've been trying to get a hold of the company to paint and no one has called me back. Now I'm stuck with a check thats not even in my name and I called The representative again. She told me she would have to speak with a manager again to see what they could do. That was over 4 weeks ago and I haven't heard back from her. I've even called and left her a message. Thanks!!!! Good way to treat customers Petersen Dean. All I can say is your customer service is horrible Petersen Dean. What really pisses me off is that my wife and I see your commercials all the time. Hard to express how pleased & impressed with this outfit I am. I'll sound like a commercial for them, but this was amazing, beginning with our consultant: Rich Bruce. Honestly, after much research I had concluded it was just too early for most folk to get good return on solar. Nobody I talked to was entirely happy. I was referred to PetersanDean from a very trusted source, & decided to hear what the fellow had to say. In only 1.5hrs around my house, roof & at my dining table, I had not only all the details about the company (roofing & solar), product (American made panels-very important), my setup (number and placement of panels), installation (approx start date and time for install), and the pricing (NO OPTION for leasing, since they think it's bad for consumers - and my research showed exactly that, plus in-house financing if needed), but also, most importantly, the projection of our future bills. Rich made sure to say that he PROMISED NOT ONE WORD of what he projected would go exactly as he said, but it's what he projected. His knowledge & clarity, sincerity & total belief in the company & product (along with a few safeguards for us) had us sign. Well! Despite engineers who design the layouts, and administrators and actual installers etc., what Rich set out on my table that day is exactly what went down and went up on my roof. Amazing! And our new power bills (OMG!!!). Plus, he's still with us; comes by & emails to make sure we're happy. Outstanding young man. Helena Shi, our administrator gets a shout too, a great rep of a great company. She kept us fully up to date every step of the way; if they sneezed, we got an email. Finally, even the installation/installers were awesome. They said they'd start at 7am, and guess what? By only just afternoon the crew boss, testing the completed system, showed me our Edison meter arrow for the first time sending them power instead of the other way around. Too Happy! read more

After several phone calls, and much information sharing, I decided to go with this company for a new roof and solar on a house I just purchased. The sales person, Jason, seemed knowledgeable and friendly. We talked at length about what would be needed for the project, especially the roof, which needed new plywood, as the bottom layer is wood shakes with split sheeting. He quoted me a price that was a few thousand dollars more than another bid I got, but I figured it was worth it because of the warranty and that it was connected to the solar installation. I signed the contract and put down 2,000 dollars. I got a call tonight from Jason's"supervisor", telling me that he needed to talk to me about a change order. He asked me if I knew that I had 3 layers of shingles, and that I needed new plywood. I said that I had already discussed this with Jason. He said apparently Jason "forgot" to put this information in the quote and that I would need to pay an additional 10,000 dollars for the roof. That would be a 37,000 dollar roof. Are you kidding me? We went from one solar company to the next. I sat down with a dozen companies and non of them could compete with Petersen Dean. The name of the Rep who helped us through this all was Richard Bruce.From the very beginning there was no BS spewing. Right to the point. Here are the numbers and here's what cost. PERFECT. That's what I've been waiting for from all those other companies. Before they came out I researched their company, just like I had the others. The only option is to purchase with them. We wouldn't lease a car so why would we lease solar, After the name came out to inspect, we made the appointment to install! The day they came to install it was suppose to rain, so they sent out a few crews and my panels were up in 3 hours! Talk about fast! The panels are up, the conduit was hidden and the parts exposed were painted with a color match of my home. They ran us through all the details and explained everything. They have been up and running for a couple months now and out meter is going backwards! the phone app is so easy to use too. Only bad thing I have to say is the Project coordinator never had a clue what was going on. But that's okay bc we had Rich to help us out! He always answered my texts and calls and did everything in his power to make sure we were happy! read more

A little over 2 years ago my wife and I decided we were going solar. We had been warned by a family acquaintance who is also a SCE home office employee of the impending rate hikes. If took us about 1 year and three different solar companies to finally pick Petersen Dean. Alot of factors played a role in this decision... #1. Cost.. Petersen Dean was the cheapest per kilowatt hour compared the SCE rates. Money talks bs walks! #2. Materials.. call me a patriot and I am proud to be an American! All materials were made in the good ol' USA including the solar panels. #3. Confidence.. after reading multiple reviews and personal research I knew using a roofing company that has adapted it's business model to match demand into a roofing and solar company was the right choice.. after all if something went wrong during install on my roof who better to fix it. #4. Install crew.. we watched a different crew install for a different company on our neighbors house and it was a disaster including watching them drop a panel off the roof onto the driveway. Our install was 100% professional. The crew was on time.. spoke English and offered me a small adjustment to the original plans. This change is a huge deal and has proven to be the best placement of the inverter. Not to mention they replaced and installed several roof tiles which I had broke a few years ago without even being asked to do so. #5. Customer service.. top notch service from my personal install representative. Great idea BTW to give each customer a single "go to" person for questions, concerns and follow up. #6. A simple repeat of #1.. cost... my annualized SCE bill after the first year was approx $165. Yes $165 for 12 months! Even with my financing payment for my solar power system and the annualized bill I saved about $2,000 dollars in the first year.. not to mention my dollar for dollar 30% tax credit. I wanted to make the best decision by investing in a Solar System that I would not regret making. It's like laying a concrete foundation. You have to get it right the first time. I am fortunate. I learned from PetersenDean that they, unlike many of their competitors do not rent their solar system. PetersenDean sells you the system. The rental solar power company gets the 30% Federal Tax Credit - not you. The rental company will remove the system after a given agreed upon amount of time. When you go to sell your home, if you are in a contract with the rental company, the buyer of your home is obligated to commit themselves to a completely new agreement with the solar power rental company. Not many home buyers find it attractive or appealing to get themselves into home purchase that requires a third party contract agreement. PetersenDean sells you the Solar Power system. So this means that from the start you get the 30% Federal Tax Credit and not the Solar System company that rents the system to you for an agreed upon amount of time. Once you pay the system off - you own it and the free electricity that your system is generating. There are some solar system companies that you commit to paying a discount for the electricity the system your roof is generating. Who do you think is generating profits from the electricity that your roof is generating? What I did was I took the total annual amount that I paid my Public Utility, divided the total by 12 for a monthly average. My average monthly electric bill was $192. I told my PetersenDean sales representative that I wanted the largest solar panel system mounted on my roof that would cost me no more than $192. I ended up with a Solar Panel System installed on my roof that is capable of producing 125% of the amount of electricity that I used last year for $183 a month. The system was financed through a financial institution and after I finish paying the loan off I will have no more payments to make. I run my pool filter pump for four hours daily. I have central Air and Heating. So when the summer temperatures soar to 105 degrees, my wife and I can use electricity knowing that the electric bill will not put us in the poor house. The PetersenDean Company provided us seamless service. From sales presentation, system design, City Permits, financing, support, along with product and workmanship guarantee. It's nice to know that the craftsmen your roof are part of an organization whose roofing experience and expertise is in their DNA. My wife and I own our home. If your system generates more than what you consume, the Public Utility will pay you at wholesale which is approximately $ .02 per KW. Consumers pay approximately $ .15. Do not quote me as I am a layman and am not an expert in any of this. I am just a consumer home owner. Our home has an annual 13,000 KWH average generating Solar Power generating system on its roof. I expect to get a substantial return from my investment in my solar power system when I sell my home. Imagine buying a home in which the electricity if free. read more

I decided to go to Peterson Dean for Solar mainly because of the roof and solar equipment warranty. We have a Eagle lite roof which every solar company I contacted would not touch. Tom Semark, Peterson Dean's sales consultant came and explained everything about Peterson Dean and the process of installing the solar system. He satisfied our main concerns about our tile roof and how they work on the roof. We were sold. After we signed the contract, Jessica Ingles, our project coordinator, contacted me directly to introduce herself and explain her role in the installation process. They are a very professional , courteous, and knowledgeable, had someone to contact during the process and again on the conclusion with followup calls from the company. We researched solar companies and decided to call Petersen Dean because we don't want to lease solar panels; we want to buy the product. We have seen the problems some of our neighbors have encountered who leased the solar panels. We set up an appointment for a sales rep to come out, which he did in about 3 days. Our sales rep, Milo, was very courteous and helpful in explaining how solar panels will help us save money as well as the different loan programs. He answered all of our questions, both in person and via e-mails/texts. We would recommend Petersen Dean and feel that Milo is a definite asset to the company. We did quite a bit of research into getting solar on our house. After meeting with a company about leasing and researching it, we decided buying makes more sense. When we met with Milo Razo of Petersen Dean, we were immediately impressed how knowledgable he is and how he spent a lot of time with us since we had an endless list of questions. He never lost patience with us. The other things we liked about Milo were that he never pressured us to make the sale. Also, he is very fast at responding to calls and texts. In addition, since Petersen Dean is a roofing company as well, it seemed to make sense. Petersen Dean's financing plan also seemed reasonable. We opted for going ahead with them. We are glad we did. Just before Christmas during an unusual rain in the desert, our roof began to leak under where some panels were installed. Milo answered a late night text and has been responsive ever since. Petersen Dean is fixing the leak in our roof. We are very happy with this firm. They have been really good all along and Milo is a super guy who really cares. I decided to purchase my solar photovoltaic and roof system through PetersenDean. I had been getting quotes off and on for 10 years. Once my wife and I decided we need a roof I contacted PD and to my surprise the cost of the solar panels are now affordable. Once work started it was completed in a few days. They also worked with the city on the permits. I did have a small issue last week. I must say Nora at the Riverside office worked with me to clear my issue.
