I was really excited to try this NEW place, but unfortunately both drinks missed the mark. The Biscoff Matcha was very bitter and not sweet at all. Employee let me know I can adjust anything if needed so I asked for a bit of vanilla and one of the employee said "More Vanilla?!" well yes it's definitely needed. Still wasn't good and just thrown away. The Nutella Dalgona was also very strong and not sweet, so neither drink was enjoyable for my taste. I paid $17 for two drinks, so I was expecting a better experience. I would suggest making the matcha a bit sweeter to balance out the bitterness, especially for flavored specialty drinks like the Biscoff Matcha.

The rush happened after we placed our order, others who came after us got their food first and again Abby told me: we're busy. No apology for not getting our entire order (2 items) at the same time and for the extreme delay (more than 30 minutes). Thankfully, Nate was honest about our ticket getting lost and made things right. He was very apologetic and kind. I appreciated him so much. Update: Nate had said he would refund our meal. Called a week later because I wasn't seeing the refund and he said he'd take care of it again. Nothing. Really says a lot about this business.

After walking up a few steps to reach the restaurant's main entrance, we entered and were pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-organized the restaurant was, both inside and out. We were greeted by a restaurant employee who immediately seated us and led us to an empty table. After placing our breakfast order, we waited no more than ten minutes before our food was delivered to our table. I ordered an oven-baked Mediterranean and cheese omelet, which was AMAZING!! And my wife had eggs and pecan hot cakes, which were tasty and filling. The service we received from our waitress was excellent; she was friendly and attentive. Our dining experience was positive

We were nervous about a wait, but it wasn't very busy when we arrived. It feels like you could be in any generic cafeteria as far as vibes go, but our waitress was very nice and there was a good energy in the air. Our waitress made a mistake and put in the wrong omelet for us, so ended up with the Santa Fe, which was...OK. I guess they bake it, so it tasted a bit dry and it definitely needed more seasoning. The hash browns had the same problem. Our daughter got the chocolate chip pancakes and she loved them, but we found them to be pretty average. Their showcase dish--the baked apple pancake--was definitely spectacular when it came out on the plate, but the actual eating experience was only so-so. The crispier parts on the outside were really good if you ate them with some maple syrup, but the rest was a bit mushy and the whole thing was shockingly sweet. We had a very pleasant morning here, the staff is nice, and apparently the business is family owned, so we wish them well. We're happy to have tried it, but it's not like we would full-throatedly recommend the place. Three stars with no ill will.

This Achilles Coffee is tucked smack dab in the middle of a health-centric mall surrounded by wellness centers, nutritional experts, and yoga studios. The decent sized parking lot is typically busy but has a good churn throughout the day. There's street parking too and the commuter rail nearby for those looking for a light walk. With seating outside on both the ground level and up on the roof, it's a perfect spot to soak in some sun, breathe in the ocean air, and have a sip and a bite in this quiet part of town. The menu here is comprehensive with coffee (espresso, pour overs, cold brew), teas, specialty drinks, as well as breakfast and light bites to pair with a good start to the morning. We primarily came for a coffee run but a few of our team members decided to visit for breakfast the following day and from what I've heard, they're solid with the food! I look forward to coming back to give their bites a try. In theme for Saint Patrick's Day, they had a few special drinks but I opted for a traditional flat white this time. They had milk options but as a traditionalist, I went with whole milk. The coffee had great flavor and balance. The richness was bold and rounded out after every sip. I was tempted to grab a couple bags on my way out but seeing they had free shipping for online orders over $40 (about two bags), I decided to save some luggage space and order some when I was back home. The staff were friendly and efficient. I was impressed how many of them they were able to fit behind the small work area but they were experienced and worked collectively as a team. The drinks were prepared quick and for those liking them hot, you will be pleased with the freshness of that first sip. Overall, Achilles Coffee is a perfect small batch roaster to visit while you're in San Diego to get a great cup of coffee, a breakfast to go with it, and some bags of single origin or blend to bring back home for your own brew. And if you're interested in trying them out before you visit or just looking to restock, consider checking out their website and order from there. They even have a sampler to try their in-season batches. I guess their only Achilles' heel is that there aren't more of them but with five spots all across San Diego county, at least a San Diegan (or visitor) can get a taste of the sweet nectar marketed under this Greek warrior's moniker.

I decided to have brunch there but when I arrived everyone was watching a soccer game...rooting for the French Team. It was pleasant to see the owners, staff, and guests so into the game. It created a welcoming and fun atmosphere...making my French experience more authentic. Just be aware, that majority of the seating is outside with an overhead shade. I looove eating outdoors so the setting was perrrfect. When it was time to order, I went inside to place it at the counter. Not too long afterwards, my warm latte came out then my breakfast...I didn't have to wait at all. Everything was sooo yummy. C'est vraiment bon!! I can't wait to go back to try the other menu items. I highly recommend Madeleine to the Yelp Community :-)

(editing to add this is a French-owned and Black-owned business, in case folks are looking!)…read more I usually come here when I'm doing errands on Cedros - and I usually just want to get my français on and order a café crème and a croissant. But today I needed a little extra je ne sais quoi because my morning was annoying, so I decided to splurge on lunch and not just a pastry here. I asked Steve, the (très beau et gentille!) co-owner what the quiche of the day was. There were two: one with jambon (ham) and one with épinards et fromage de chèvre (spinach and goat cheese). When I hesitated, he told me that the spinach one was amazing. Even though it's $20 for a quiche plate, I decided to go for it. I thought I was going to get a sad little quiche slice for that amount and might regret it. But OMG, it was more than worth it! Already they have a lovely patio on this pretty street in this fancy design district. But it was also a HUGE and exceptionally savory rectangular slice, alongside a DELECTEABLE petite salade. I asked Steve what mustard they use in the vinaigrette, and he said plain old Dijon - but the proportions and the seasoning were EXCELLENT. So it was salad perfection, not heavily dressed at all, just delightful. The patio was full on a Friday with ladies who lunch - but did that include me, as a solo diner, since I am a lady who had lunch? I'm not sure, but you can feel comfortable here no matter what. And now I know Madeleine Cafe is much too good to just come for coffee and for ordering in French from Steve or his co-owner Emmanuel. I don't want to spend that much for lunch every day - but I'll be back!
