I really loved Sol de Colombia! I got 2 empanadas de cambray, a chicharrón de guayaba, an arepa de choclo, and a hot latte, everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The coffee was perfect. The bakery has plenty of seating if you want to sit and enjoy your food, and I loved that it's separate from the restaurant, gives it a nice, cozy vibe. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable, which made the whole experience even better. Prices are also very reasonable for Bayside. Price gauging ,, with an attitude If an item i$8:00 for an item and at the register they charge you $ 9.10 And you share the their sales tax is off , and then they tell you if you don't like it you don't have to buy it . But you share that sorry but your wrong and please charge me the correct sales tax ..... and they get offended and again tell you don't have to buy here .... What does that mean to you? Well that went back and forth with the female owner that she claimed to be with an attitude and again said if you don't like it you can leave and not but here ....... I think we will take here advise .... bayside has no room for tax guagers and rudeness........ We expect more here in Bayside. And it was a courtesy advise that they are overcharging on tax ..... Uncle Sam will not be to happy .... I am a local in Whitestone and a proud colombian native. I was extremely happy to see SOL DE COLOMBIA open in the neighborhood. I went this past week to see one of the world cup games and have to say the service was 10 out of 10, the food was fresh and the cocktails were great. The staff is welcoming, friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed it so much I have now placed a big order for saturday's game. I hope you all have the same or better experience as I did. read more

Working in the area, I'm always excited for new businesses in bayside. Came here for a lunch at opening and staff was attentive right away. With beautiful interior decor, a photo floral swing, and music stage, this spot wil definitely be a fun contender for night life. I got the calamari and short rib soup that came with rice and arepa. The menu offers a wide variety of food and a full bar. For a drink I went with a caipirinha. Food was amazing and portion was good for price typical for Colombian food in NYC (outside mom and pops). Latin music was relaxing and not too loud. I'll be returning to try their bandeja paisa, one of my favorite Colombian dishes. read more

Food is pricey. However, my skirt steak was fantastic. I did ask for it medium-well, but so was starving. I went for brunch. It was perfect time of the day. A live band performed on Mother's day afternoon. Louder than I can appreciate, but talented. It's a small place. Family-oriented. Location is a bit isolated, but worth the trip. I live nearby. Came back here a couple weeks ago and the service and food were MEDIOCRE at best. Our server seemed to be very attentive at the start but I have no clue what happened toward the middle of the service, someone in my party had to wait 25 minutes for AVOCADO, something that should have been in the AVOCADO salad, the steak went cold by the time he came back?? Not only that but I had to call him over about 3 times before he came over and went to get the avocado.. ALSO, we ordered chips and guacamole for appetizers, they should disclose when you get it that they will ONLY give you one free refill of chips before charging you extra, there was so much leftover guac that got wasted because of this, totally not happy with this visit! read more

My family & I went today for dinner, family of 4. We loved Tequila Sunrise before this location but decided to give this place a try. Service was ok. Food is definitely not worth that value. Grilled octopus should be hot but it was cold. Whatever, we still decided to give the meals a try. "Costilla a La Parrilla" let's just talk about that since it wasn't handled well. There was so much fat on it, it wasn't edible not worth $34. Once we told the waiter Jhojan, it was the typical I'm sorry I'll let the chef know and if my dad wanted another plate and if not he can get a FREE DRINK instead. laughable so my dad declined. We still had to pay. Our entire bill came out to $304... with a "discount" of just 5% off. The manager my dad spoke to was also useless, just another one just apologizing. The food was mediocre at best. One in our party ordered the fajita and this is definitely not tequila sunrise. It was a soggy mess. The chicken in all the fishes was tough. The drinks were good. Ordered a few desserts for us to share. You would think it would occur to the waiter to bring plates. Had to ask six times for plates until we finally just took the plates off an empty table nearby. My husband and I were excited to try this place, especially since it was in our previous favorite second home, RIP Tequila Sunrise. UNFORTUNATELY, we had a not so great experience: 1. Immediately after walking into the establishment, i felt weird vibes. Maybe it's because the hostess table for meet & greet was abandoned for about 15 minutes. Maybe it was abandoned for so long because they seemingly have a bakery next store as well that is connected, and the employee was running back between there and serving drinks at the restaurant. Anyways, when the bus boy was the one who noticed us finally and sat us - we realized, they are understaffed. 2. The menus were iPads (cool) - BUT each of ours showed different items. Ex: my menu showed only 3 appetizers, my husbands showed at least 10. (minor glitch to work out) 3. We decided to play it safe and order the fajitas to share, Guacamole, and Chicharron with tostones. We used to order the fajitas from Tequila Sunrise and though their food wasn't top notch, the margs and fajitas always hit. Welp - the steak looked like leather, the chicken was hard. The sourcream was watered down. The guacamole had no flavor, not even salt - tasted like hand cream? The tostones were decent, but the chicharron was definitely refried many times that day and it did not taste fresh. In sum (incase you do not want to read my long rant) - We are going to rate this place 5/15, I'll give them benefit of the doubt since they recently opened. The decor is beautiful, but They should hire more staff, maybe check their inventory, so food can be more fresh.....we will try back in 6 months (if they are still there), if not any improvements, won't be returning. read more

Tried the new Colombian restaurant Sol de Colombia occupying the former Tequila Sunrise space. Very bright and lively decor, and the food was very good. I had the Arepitas as an appetizer and then Arroz con Camarones (shrimp and rice) as my entree. Very tasty and portions were large. I had to take half of the shrimp dish home. Wash it all down with a Colombian beer. Service was attentive but not annoyingly so. Will Definitely return. read more

Our server was very attentive. However, the quality of the food was subpar and I would not come here again nor would I recommend this place. My friend and I shared chips and guacamole. I ordered the arepas as an appetizer, frijoles, mixed veggies, sweet plantain, avocado, yucca fries, and flan. The picture of the yucca fries looked very appetizing and completely different from what was given.I should have taken a picture of it and I should have asked the server to remove it from the bill seeing as how I didn't even consume one of the fries in its entirety. The sweet plantains were the worst I ever had, they were cold and did not taste good at all but I did eat and I LOVE sweet plantain. The mixed vegetables lacked any kind of flavor, they could have sautéed it with garlic and or sofrito but nope. The beans were okay. The flan was underwhelming and I LOVE flan. Overall, unfortunately the flavor and quality of the food was lacking on just about all fronts.
