Came here for a quick lunch. No one inside so it was intimate for sure. The wait staff was quick to seat us but didn't remember to bring us any water even after giving us the menus. After ordering, she walked away to put in the order and never returned. Thus I had to waive her over to ask for water. Lunch specials are a great value but the lack of service and attention leads no desire for me to return for a sit down. There was no one there and so we ate, paid and left. Assuming it was an off day because this visit left me perplexed as I've been here quite a few times over the years for sit down and to go orders. It was always bustling and lively with patrons. Think management changed as well, noticeably the decor too. Guess they were too focused on taking pics for their IG, and of burgers no less, not even their own Columbian food. Burgers looked amazing but that's not what I ordered. Appetizers: beef empanadas - nothing memorable about these, need more flavor. It seemed it needed another minute on the fryer. Lunch specials we had: 1) Grilled pork chop with rice, beans and plantain. My pork was a tad on the dry side but it was also very lean. The beans were very good. 2) Carne Asada was also served with rice and beans and a plantain. My friend said it was fine (texture) but the meat was not seasoned enough. Holy moly! Come hungry! The portions are huge. The lemon pepper wings were crispy and delicious. Grilled pork was so juicy and flavorful. First time having paisa rice and the flavor is a punch in the mouth! Very tasty and has everything in it. Plantains, sausage, chicken, pork. Food coma! Service and ambience was fine. I went last Monday for the first time , it was great! I had a really nice waiter that took great care of myself, my daughter and my mother. Check was 120 ( no gratuity included) in paid cash and tipped him very well because I'm a server as well in the industry for 20+ years , well I went again this Monday ( yesterday ) just myself and my best friend. The check was 42 dollars plus a service charge of 18% !!!! I felt ABSOLUTELY INSULTED that the waitress added a tip to my 42 dollar check ( a party of 2 )!!!!! That was 100% discrimination and 100% illegal!!!!And also adding gratuity to any tables check a manager has to OK that or owner, especially for a smaller party!!!! In restaurants, you are allowed to add gratuity to parties of six or more But it also has to be posted on the menu!! The fact that she added a 7 dollar tip FOR HER on my check ( especially when I was going to tip her 20 dollars ) because like i said IM A WAITRESS MYSELF !!!!!! I am ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED, INSULTED AND NEVER GOING BACK THERE!!!! As I was handing her the check with 50 dollars in it ( the check was 49.48 with the grat included), I told her that I was there exactly a week ago with a higher check three people, and the gratuity was not included, and I also told her how I felt insulted that she added a gratuity to my check and I let her know it is not legal to do that in a restaurant and she replied she's very sorry THEN STARTED SPEAKING SPANISH FAST LIKE SHE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH !! Luckily my best friend speaks Spanish and he translated that she said a party of three yes, they can put gratuity on the check but not a party at two and I said I'm a party of two ( she also put party of one on the check) and last time there was no gratuity for a party of 3!!! I said so why did you put gratuity on it? She didn't know what to say, but then she said that the owner that took care of me last week , that he was my server ?? I told her I'm never coming back and that she lost money by doing that because I would've tipped her half the check. This place is a good size has a few tables available for sit down service. My daughter and I sat in a booth and couldn't wait to start our visit. For drinks my daughter got a recommendation of a Specialty Barbie Mocktail it was pretty, pink and tasted good. I got a BlackBerry Mojito which was not made correctly so it was very sour. It was made with lemons and not limes so it was very, very sour. My last drink was a Frozen Passionfruit Margarita and it was very very good it was frozen I highly recommend the frozen drinks. For Appetizer I got the Fried Chicken Wings & Fries which my daughter enjoyed the wings looked crispy. I also ordered Stuffed Green Plantain Cups Shrimp the shrimps were cold and made in a creamy sauce it was good but am not used to it being cold. I also got the Beef stuffed green plantains which my daughter did enjoy. For our Main dish we got the Fried snapper w. Yellow rice & sweet plantain it was presented well and had good flavor. The PARRILLADA MR. POLLO was the star dish the presentation is 10/10 everyone will be looking for sure. The dish includes steak, chicken & shrimp and two sides of your choice I got the Yuka fries, a salad and rice with mine. Chicken was moist, tender and juicy. White rice with beans were good. Wish I ordered yellow rice instead but that's just a personal preference. The meal also came with a plantain. Unfortunately, it tasted like a old stale dried out banana that was left out in the sun. Not good at all. I was also disappointed they didn't have any green sauce for the chicken. They only had a spicy red sauce which was tasty but It's better suited for their empanadas rather than the chicken. Beef and chicken empanadas were very good. Perfect amount of meat stuffed inside. We ordered Typical Platter and Breaded Chicken for delivery and the price quoted on the phone was $46.76 including tax. I was going to give $51 to the delivery person but when it was delivered the bill was $49.76 ! I ended up giving her $55 for she will get a decent tips. I asked for the bill but was told she have to take that back to the store. She showed me the bill to verify that it was for $49.76. On the bill there was an add on of $3 tips ( she told me it was because of the drive to deliver). This was never mentioned in the phone order ! Will never order or eat at this place again. We ordered number 57. Grilled skirt steak. It comes with rice, beans, salad and sweet plantain. They charged us $36. The salad and sweet plantain never came. I called and asked about this and they said they changed the menu which is only beans, rice and the steak. They said it was a mistake and they should of updated the menu. I said ok just reimburse us a few dollars. We paid $36 for what was on their menu which included salad and sweet plantain. I visited last night with a friend for dinner and had a subpar dining experience. We arrived around 6:45pm, and were seated immediately. Music was not as loud as other reviewers commented, so that was a relief. Our server was also patient and attentive. I also noticed that Happy Hour was from 2pm to 6pm. (Is that a common thing on Bell now? Who gets off at 2pm? High School Teachers?) My friend wasn't too hungry and had the mini beef patties (and they were really mini, like the size of a small dumpling) and coconut shrimp. She said that they were okay. I had the chicken platter, which comes with a 1/4 piece of chicken, chicken consommé, fries, rice and salad. The chicken consommé was hard to eat because the chicken was boiled to the consistency and texture of rubber, the flavor of the broth was deep. I wonder if it's because they cooked the chicken for so long? I was supposed to get 1/4 of a chicken, but man, didn't know I ordered the mini chicken. It was a tiny piece of chicken! I couldn't help but laugh because I felt like I got a small piece of cornish hen. The salad barely had any dressing on it, and the lettuce was rather yellow and wilted. When I was living close to Jackson Heights years ago the good spanish food was on every block,now in Bayside I was so lucky to have found this spot,conviently located on busy Bell Blvd My mouth started to water as soon as I started to eat my order of Carne Asada,oh my delicious fresh tasting and the meat had no fat. They didn't have green sauce when I went so it was slightly disappointing but they did have an alternative hot sauce which is more like the salsa/ hot sauce they use with empanadas. The price is pretty cheap. They have mixed rice here which I like. The plantains were sweet but they give you whole ones. Pickup is fast. Small dining room if you want to eat in. Over priced bad food. I stopped in thinking I could grab some quick cheap unhealthy fried chicken. Well, I got the unhealthy fried chicken. But, I paid a full restaurant price. Chicken was dry as tatooine. As I was eating realized that this is a more authentic Colombian way to cook the chicken. But as an American, I expected fried chicken to be more moist in the inside. The fair in general seems fast food quality but the place is set up as a sit-down restaurant. For the price I paid, I could have got a full lunch special at a nearby sushi place. I got a coke, and it came in a dirty can. But they did give me a straw. But for two bucks, it wasn't worth the gross out factor. Checked out this place as we wanted a quiet dinner and bell Blvd is packed out to the max! The food was great! Ordered the chicken platter and the "typical platter" which consists of steak, fried pork, plantain, beans, fried egg, rice and an avocado. The steak was thin and decent but husband enjoyed the fried pork much more! My chicken and rice was delicious.
