Came on a Friday night during happy hour though and got seated right away! Happy hour is 20% off (most) food and drinks. We got plenty of soju bottles, a couple pitchers, and food. We're fans of the kimchi and seafood pancake, Popcorn chicken with spicy rice cake, bulgogi, and calamari. Can also never go wrong with the tots if you're looking for a snack food to go with their drinks. They give you a free bowl of popcorn when you sit as well. Came upon Sojuya for Happy hour with my group of friends. I do like the idea that you don't have to drive all the way to k-town to go to a Korean lounge and also the idea that you can get Korean and Izayaki all in one place. We were greeted and seated down. It was nice to see many items are 30% during happy hour, but not all. We took advantage and ordered bulgulgi, pork katsu, and fried seafood udon. All of which came out in timely fashion, but the portions are pretty small. We also ordered a pitcher of Hite, which they ran out.. That's fine so we ordered Cass, which they ran out too! Are you kidding me!? We ended up sticking with Asahi as an alternative. Service is good, I love how they have a button to get your waiter to come. Also, they have kpop music videos playing in the projector screen in the main dining area. This is the perfect place to go if you want to feel like you're in a hole-in-the-wall Ktown restaurant minus the stress of traffic and parking! I loved the atmosphere of this place! The lights are dim, there's music playing, and people are genuinely having a good time at their individual booths. There's also a huge parking lot right next to the restaurant. You also get the best Japanese/Korean comfort food. The fish cake soup really warmed me up and the savory and seafood flavors tasted clean and delicious. We also ordered the spicy chicken which came coated with a blanket of soft gooey cheese. It was pretty spicy but it's that tasteful pain that makes you keep coming back for more. My friends and I came in about a hour before closing. Service was fast. They were able to get our meals out fresh and hot with our soju drinks. We ordered 2 cheese corns and 1 fried chicken. The sweet corn paired with the cheese made every bite delicious. The crispy and saucy chicken was also everything we wanted in a Korean fried chicken. Let's face it. Cypress and the OC is not Koreatown - not when it comes to Korean restaurants or especially Korean-style pubs/bars. Therefore, I'm always skeptical when people tell me a spot in this area is as good as Ktown. Fortunately, they're right about Sojuya - it's a place that holds its own, even when compared to bars in L.A. That definitely makes it heads and shoulders above most of the other places in the area. So what makes this place good? Well, I'm glad you asked. First of all, they have actual, authentic yakitori! You can see them grill the skewers over the coals when you walk in. The authentic cooking method results in authentic smoky yakitori flavor! The one downside is that the yakitori items are not part of the happy hour. The upside is that the rest of the menu is -- and it's all 1/2 off during happy hour! We tried the spicy octopus, which was spicy and delicious, but I've also tried their okonomiyaki, which is pretty darn good. They have the usual soju and beer, with a few good beers on tap, and a decent selection of sake! The place has ample parking and is pretty big inside. I don't remember ever having to wait for a table, even on the crowded weekend nights. I came here a few times in the past (pre-pandemic) and it was pretty good, but this last time left a seriously bad taste in my mouth. However, I am keeping it to 3 stars as the other servers that helped us out were very sweet and I recognize that we had a large group (17 people) which may have affected our experience. I'll let you be the judge, though. This review is almost entirely due to the poor attitude and rude behavior of one server or "sort of" manager in particular, David (when I asked if he was the manager, he stated "sort of", so that's what I'm writing). I have some choice quotes from him that resulted in my bothering to write this review at all. As stated we had a large group and unfortunately, 2 of our party came a bit later than the rest. I understand that sometimes that might be a problem for the servers if they have to pull out extra chairs or move furniture around but we're a friendly group and just squeezed them into the bench seating area with no issues. However, David was pretty annoyed, and in an indignant tone stated, "This is why you were supposed to let me know exactly how many people were coming!" which I would've understood if we had made a fuss about it but I didn't hear anyone complain or say anything about seating, other than David. Later, after we'd paid the bill, he came back and loudly and aggressively waved our credit cards around, asking "Whose card is this?! Whose card is this?!" which is a bit crass and rude. We took a group picture in the lobby on our way out (we were there to celebrate a coworker's birthday) and maybe hung around for a minute too long because then of course David showed up and said "You guys need to go outside now!" Yes, I know we are a large group and that we are kind of in the way, but I think you can be slightly more polite when moving people towards the door. The last bit was when I requested his name and position. Me: "So you're the manager?" Him: "Sort of. Is there a problem?" (with impatience) Me, internally: "Pretty sure it's just you that's the problem but I don't have the energy to be a Karen and escalate this." Well, that was our experience. Hopefully the REAL management / owner can see this review and figure out what to do about this staff member. I'm fairly certain this is the same server that was complained about in a couple other reviews, so I'm not holding my breath, but I would caution people to stay away from Sojuya unless they're willing to roll the dice with the servers and potentially have to deal with David. read more

I came here last night and had a great time with friends. I ordered a soju Lychee yogurt cocktail and it was delicious and sweet. They have an extensive menu for you to choose from and happy hour at the start of the night for 20% off. The staff is kind and attentive, they have a call button whenever you need them. My friends and I shared the kimchi spam rice, spicy pork, and kimchi stew. All the dishes were a good portion size and were hot,fresh from the kitchen. The kimchi was flavorful and tart in both dishes. The spicy pork had a delightful kick to it and was so satisfying. Highly recommend coming here with a group and enjoying a great night out. Been here a few times surprised I never reviewed it. We came in late Friday night, they do require masks, check temperature's, and have an outdoor tent for dining. Honestly eating here made me miss the unique interior they have, the wooden furniture, and dim lighting gave off such nice vibe. We ordered Spicy pork belly, beef Yakiudon, and takoyaki. Everything always tastes great here never had a bad experience. It's a cool spot to come by have a few beers order some food can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Unfortunately it was all downhill from there: the sake we requested was out, multiple other apps we requested were out, etc. Last call for food was at 12; also not advertised. Should've left and gone somewhere else when we heard about the yakitori. If it's between this place or 7-11 across the street.... Choose 7-11. For our main dishes, I ordered Spicy Squid with Pork Belly for $29.99 with a side of white rice (during happy hour it's 20% off the menu) and my boyfriend ordered the Beef Yaki Udon for $14.99. Both dishes were super delicious, well seasoned and had the perfect about of spice. Dishes come in big portions, enough for 3-4 people so the pricing makes sense and is well worth it. GREAT FOOD, BAD SERVER Background: (I am also a server) I have been coming here for a little over a year and the food here is just wonderful, however... The service can be spotty. Most of the time the service is okay and on occasion it will be terrible. Example: During my last visit our server had the worst attitude. I had no idea why, but we brushed it off since it didn't seem like a big deal. Then he forgot part of our order. Again, wasn't a big deal. Then he got part of our order wrong. Decently annoyed but still, not a big deal. Then when he dropped off part of our food, he used the portable stove to clear some space by pushing all of our things to the side. He did this rather aggressively which dropped my phone to the floor. His eyes looked up at the phone that fell and without saying anything, walks away. That was so disrespectful. He made us so uncomfortable during our meal that we didn't want to ask him for anything else even when he got our order wrong. He did calm down towards the end but the damage was already done and it was a bad experience. Super fast service! I love when Korean bars have the little button to call the server & the cherry on top is when they come right away! The prices are decent, and they give really good complimentary popcorn (yes there's refills). Parking is super easy as well. This is one of my faves- I thought it was Korean at first , still don't know what it is but the food is amazing, the customer service is unique- but efficient! They have a few tv's playing Asian pop videos which are kinda cool, lots of people just laughing and having a good time, I really enjoy the energy there. My go to is spicy pork belly, pork belly with octopus, cant go wrong with chicken guizards and my nieces love the breaded chicken with rice cake. I've read through some of these reviews and noticed the owner chiming in on most of the one star reviews claiming that they check everyone's IDs if alcohol is ordered. THIS SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE. There should have been something in all our research of this place that said that yakitori stopped around 10:30pm and food stopped at 12. The waitress also did not even attempt to keep our orders (two couples) separate and freaked out so much when we asked for separate checks that we had to pay as one group and figure out each other's order on our own.
