I usually stick to Greek salad, gyro platters, stuffed peppers/tomatoes and occassionally calamari or seafood salad. I had the chicken gyro platter the first time and this time had the combo gyro platter (gyro meat, pork and chicken). Great sized portion, everything was so good and fresh. Chicken Kabob- $13.50 Average chicken and fries, not the best or worst Red Snapper- $30.00 Highlight of the meal, we couldn't stop talking about it, it was delicious! It was huge, super flavorful, moist and had that nice grill taste, and squeezing the lemon on top, put it over the top, worth every penny! Baklava- $4.50 Surprisingly very good, not to sweet just perfect. Vanilla Ice Cream- $4.00 I think this was homemade because it didn't taste like your regular store bought, it was nice and delicate. What a great little place! I came here on a Friday night and this bitch was packed! I havent been to that many places to eat in this town besides the lame-chains on route 17 but it was great! Came here with my loud, drunk friends for a birthday party in early Feb. There were about 10 of us. The staff was polite, and bearing with us. BYOB! they gave us water and cups for chasers. Our apps came out very quickly. I had the grape leaves, which everyone must get. I tend to be picky with these because a lot of places make them too sour and stale. These are the best ones ever, $4 for about 6. The dinners themselves took awhile. I think we were waiting about 30 mins. It wasnt that bad because we were a big group and had a chance to hang out and drink and talk. I ordered the falalfel pita sandwhich. The fries that it came with were nothing special, but the sandwhich was packed and huge. I only had about 2bites. The grape leaves and vodka stuffed me up. But the sandwhich was great. This is a great place for Mediterranean! Came here on a Wednesday evening the day after Christmas. They don't take reservations. I called ahead and was told that there was no wait. My aunt got there a little before me and said she waited like 5 minutes. It's BYOB, and they don't charge a corkage fee which is nice. We had a very pleasant server, she told us about the specials and was very prompt with taking our order. We ordered the Spanakopita for an appetizer. The portion sizes are quite large here so you can definitely order one entree and share. My only complaint is that the bus boy took away my wine glass and didn't ask me if I was finished drinking. You know when someone hypes up a movie so much, then you go see it, and it was just "ehh"? That was me last night at Sofia's. My overall experience was okay-good, but certainly nowhere near omg-amazing good. My first taste of Sofia's was take-out because friends had insisted it was amazing. Everything I had was just okay or sub-par. But it was takeout, I told myself. So I didn't let it ruin it for me. Last night, I gave Sofia's a fair shot at a real dinner experience. Started off with the hummus and a special of the evening (zucchini pie). The hummus was kind of watery; I'm used to a bit more texture, but the taste was good. The pita bread that accompanied it was okay, but the FRIED pita bread that also came with it was super delicious. Then again, anything fried is pretty much a winner to me lol. The eggplant pie wasn't what we expected. We were expecting a bit more savory, but the filling was kind of sweet, especially coupled with the phylo dough. Also the center was still a bit cold, while the outside hot and crispy. It still tasted fresh nonetheless. For my main, I got the Seafood Medley. Grilled Shrimp, Calamari, and Octopus drizzled with some lemon, EVOO, and Greek herbed goodness... yumm! The shrimp was delicious and so flavorful, the calamari fresh, but the octopus... oh the octopus. It was a complete fail. Beyond overcooked. My friend wasn't sure if she's tasted octopus before, so she gave mine a try. "Tastes like chicken!" #FAIL. Octopus is not supposed to taste like chicken if it's cooked right lol. My friend ordered the pork chops, but got the lamb chops. When her order came, I pointed this out to her and the server, but my friend ended up just taking it. She really wanted those pork chops! We also had to ask for water twice. Sorry, not nitpicking, just a peeve of mine (and I know most Yelpers can agree on the water thing!). Overall, it did not knock my socks off as I was expecting, the first time with take-out nor the second time dining in (minus the fried pita + the shrimp which were pretty good). For dessert I had the baklava cheesecake. I took it home to-go and it was still great. It was a layered cheesecake. Cheesecake was on the very bottom, topped with some sort of nut and caramel like mixture, topped with flakey baklava pastry, and drizzled with raspberry sauce. The service was impeccable! The server was so incredibly attentive and sweet. Fun fact: I was passing by and browsed at the menu. I started to walk away, and a gentleman said "if you like Greek food you have to try it out. When I picked up my order, the restaurant was full with people waiting outside during dinner time, so that set a high expectation for the food for me. Walking in here for the first time, it was a charming little restaurant that can seat both intimate parties of two and larger family groups. The staff was really sweet and welcoming and the smells from the kitchen were amazing. Didn't feel rushed at all as we looked over the menu. The selection was nice and we were so ready to get started! We ordered the grilled calamari for apps and decided to share the meats grill between the two of us. Everything was timely and delicious (and byob). We leisurely ate our dinner and chatted between bites. The place did get crowded but the noise levels never got out of hand. The stuffed tomatoes are amazing and definitely well recommended. We also got some beef stuffed peppers that were delicious. Apparently, stuffing something is one of their specialties. The falafel meze we ordered was rather overcooked and quite dry. The only thing I disliked was the Baklava Cheesecake. I have ordered salmon many times at Sofia's. This time, I get a significantly smaller piece than usual. As a patron paying over $17 for a dish, I expect consistency and a good amount of salmon for the price that i am paying (As you can see in the pictures (good thing I am one to take pictures of my food), the fuller one is the salmon fillet I usually receive, and the other one is the fillet i received today...massive difference, almost half the size!) When I go to speak with the manager, I am told that this is how the salmon usually looks. No, it is not, since I've ordered the exact same dish several times and never had to complain about it. Then their answer changes to: "We cut different size salmon fillets, but they are all the same size." That would make sense if that were true, but, as I mentioned before, I ordered this before and never had this problem. The fillet was the same length as the orders I usually get, but one side was significantly flatter, as if the skin was just left on. All in all, instead of addressing a loyal customer's concerns, the management met me with disdain, as if I am to blame for their inconsistent portion sizes.
