The Bolognese had ZERO flavor. The description of the item said it was "hours reduced all grass-fed beef bolognese topped with shaves 24 month Reggiano and basil". No way! Terrible service, I don't know how to start, I used to come to this place before but not anymore. I was hungry after a wonderful massage and decided to come back I finally had a day off to spend with my mom. I also work in the restaurant industry I walked in and sat down and waited at least 10 minutes to be offered a drink or be greeted possibly because I'm a Hispanic woman. The server took my drink order and said I like when people know that they want lol okay sure. I ordered a cheese and charcuterie. I ate it and he never came back to check on me, by the way I wanted some more bread. For a platter so big only got 4 small slices for two people. No big deal. Had to flag my waiter to get my entrées because he was busy drinking at the bar talking non stop to colleagues and people at the bar. So finally he came over and took my order the same plates and utensils that was used for my app was used for my entree. No check back he was still drinking and talking. I wanted another Amarone which was delicious and I had to flag him again. I really wanted to order Tiramisu for my mom. This was my Christmas dinner since I won't be home for Christmas. Then I got so frustrated and more than that embarrassed. The food was delicious ordered eggplant parmigiana and paccheri bolognese. All the food was delicious and the wine outstanding but the service is bad. I feel bad for the chef his food is being served for mediocre servers. This is not the end, I asked for the check and the server took my card and 20 minutes later he says his system is down, wth but ok I had other stuff to do like Christmas shopping. I could have went out to the atm and gotten some cash and that's it. The problem here is the server disappeared with my card. Then I told the bald server hey what's going on I have to and I told him this has been the worst Service of my life seriously. I told him his colleague was terrible never came back to check on us he said I don't believe this he's a great worker. I was so frustrated and he told me to go back to my table and grabbed my arm. This place is so cute! My friends and I came on a Wednesday night around 7 and it was PACKED. We were lucky that someone was just leaving as we entered. Service was very quick and we instantly received water and menus when we sat down. We ordered a bottle of red lambrusco and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. Our waiter was quick to pour our drinks and ask us if we needed anything else. Overall this is a fantastic place to spend your evening. It's noisy, but you quickly feel at ease after a glass of wine. The bar also has an outdoor patio, but it was closed down for the winter season. The only thing I did not understand was the 80s pop music selection, it seemed like traditional pop or jazz was needed. Crowd: Busy, but not packed. My experience at Sofia has only been top notch. My fiancé and I shared a pizza and the meatballs and it was perfect for the two of us! The meatballs were the best I've ever had- no exaggeration!!!!! I also thought the wine list was a big improvement over Chateau something or other around the corne I ordered veggie lasagna. The food was good, not great, but this is a wine bar after all so the wine and vibe are the most important criteria. And the wine and vibe are great at his place. I fell for the ambiance and loyal patrons who love this place for good reason. After a glass of wine I have forgotten about Chateau 100 yards away and the champagne bar that I had considered for my next stop. Prices are expected for Manhattan, they update and change a few of the wines to keep it fresh. Food is also yummy and tasty. Overall I always leave Sofia's happy and more than satisfied! This place is fantastic. We stopped here after dinner recently for some drinks. But because of the Covid rules, you must order food also. Luckily they have a fantastic small plates menu and dessert list. They also have a great list of shareable meals, pastas, cheese plates, etc. A real authentic Italian gem in the city that not in little Italy and that's decently priced, quite romantic with lots of little dark nooks. Plus outdoor seating if you don't feel safe inside. If you do feel safe, they take your temperature and make you write your info for contact tracing. The tables are spaced appropriately and the staff is taking all the precautions. I highly recommend the Sancerre by the bottle and the yummy tiramisu. I'll definitely be back soon! read more
