Two of us had lunch at SoCo today. First the good: great meat loaf, good collards, good but not great shrimp and grits. The bad: green beans were raw; some may like their food uncooked; I am not one of them. Service was neither good nor bad; indifferent instead of rude but definitely not friendly and welcoming. When I got the bill, I saw that the price charged for my meat loaf special was higher than listed on the menu. I said nothing but have no intention of going back. Wasn't worth it...the service was extremely slow. Our waitress was pretty much nonexistent most of our time there. Took forever to take our order, longer than it should have to bring 2 waters and then we didn't see her again. Someone else brought our food and the bartender brought our check and took our payment. On to the food...Sunday brunch sounds great. It wasn't. Ordered the egg sandwich, thought it'd be something more than it was since it's on the menu. I do not know what the one star reviewer is talking about. My wife and I just had a fabulous meal. I had the Ribeye and she had the veal chop. Both cooked to perfection and very flavorful. Amazing food from beginning to end. We stopped here during a boat trip. The drinks were delicious. The cowboy ribeye was cooked perfectly and the sides were not only big portions but extremely tasty as well. The bread pudding was the topper. We have been here several times now and it is our go to place in Georgetown. While it does not have the waterfront views some of the places do, it has the most amazing food. The service has been prompt and friendly, but the food... oh my. Where to start. My dad had the pear and goat cheese chicken sandwich which he loved and devoured. Stopped in for lunch while visiting the Front Street area in downtown G-Town. I'm genuinely amazed at the quality of the food we ordered. Every entree and side that we got was absolutely delicious! It's like they have a grandma working in the back putting out the best of anything you've ever made at home. I had the blackened local grouper with Cole slaw and butter beans; my wife had the grilled local shrimp with collards and squash casserole. If you want a fast answer about some of the dishes my family and I had for dinner, scroll to the bottom for quick reviews. Just had this place for the first time on vacation. Showed up hungry with family. I ordered a burrito expecting it to be really tasty. When I got my food it looked good but the taste wasn't there. My shrimp burrito had some odd items in it. It had rice and beans and queso like normal but then there was a weird slaw and mango and pepper jam. To me, that did not sound like a good combo. Any I tried it with pepper jam on the side. Back to the burrito. I ate it and was underwhelmed. I took another bite and it just got worse. I really wanted to like this burrito because it looked good and I can usually eat food even if I'm not crazy about the flavor, but this slaw flavor was too over powering. I am also not a big slaw fan so if you like slaw it could be different. I kept trying to eat my food but it was too much. I wanted to throw up from the slaw flavor. I would definitely try something new if I ever go back. For I would get the burrito with the more basic ingredients. The burrito also came with homemade fried chips. They were mediocre and pretty thick. Definitely better than the burrito. I also asked the rest of my family what they thought of the food. Here are some other opinions: Mom-Grouper Tacos- 3/5 star review. "Fresh but not a ton of flavor. Fish was really good." Grandma-Beef Tacos- 5/5 star review. Omg. This place was divine! During our week stay here, we ate there twice and went to their Thanksgiving lunch at the Belle Isle Yacht Club. We tried their tacos on Taco Tuesday, grilled fish sandwich, burgers. All superb! The Thanksgiving meal was outstanding ... the owner smoked what I can only describe at beef brisket nirvana. I took my Mom here for Mother's Day after church. We had a great experience. The food was very good, both of us got different sandwiches. I think I had the Pear/Goat cheese and she had the Pimento. They were both delicious. Everything was great as far as the atmosphere and the food. The only room for improvement that I can give is the timeliness of getting our food. I had the grouper tacos, they were pretty good only thing that I would have liked different was smaller pieces of grouper instead of one large piece. We sat outside and it was comfortable. The appetizers we ordered were delicious: seafood chowder was excellent and onion rings freshly battered and good (accompanied with "white bbq" sauce--horseradish sauce--that was a fun addition). But then it went downhill. We ordered the special: fish and chips. The fish portion was very small (dare I say minuscule?) and the fries were soggy and slightly burned as well. We had ordered the fish grilled, thinking there would be some kind of coating or flavoring. It was SO BLAND! Very disappointing after reading other positive reviews. Just finished a delicious lunch at this awesome restaurant. It was our first time and we will definitely be back. I had lunch size flounder...can't imagine how large of a portion the dinner size would be! It just melted in my mouth. My husband had a grouper sandwich. The grouper was more than twice as long as the roll. He couldn't stop raving about it. The sides were delicious as well. Happy hour was a good deal. However, they were out of the happy hour vodka and bartender didn't offer an alternative vodka just said, "We have enough for one drink". There were 4 of us. 2 people ordered food. On the recommendation of the bartender (who seemed put out that we were not locals & also stated that she's never eaten anything bad there), one person ordered the pimento cheese chicken it wasn't distasteful but it wasn't noteworthy. The person who ordered meatloaf said it was soggy and probably some of the worst meatloaf he's eaten. I wouldn't visit again.
