I popped open my trusty Yelp app and it led me to Social Eatery. From the moment you drive up it is warm and inviting. Parking was easy and we saw families walking in, which is always a good sign. Inside it was bright and cheerful with a bright red dragon weaving across the ceiling. There was a happy buzz from the many people there enjoying dinner but it was not so loud that it was difficult to talk. There are three vendors to choose from, Grapeholic (tea), Rice Monster (Cantonese rice bowls), and the one we chose, Noodleosophy. We both enjoyed delicious, filling, noodle dishes. The restaurant has a bit of a sticky feeling inside, so I think they should clean the surfaces more frequently. I really enjoyed my curry ramen, especially after adding on tofu and an egg; my bowl was incredibly flavorful. The portions are generous--one bowl could easily feed two people if you're only mildly to moderately hungry. There were three of us, and we all ended up with leftovers, which felt a bit excessive. Never knew this was here until I have meetup with one of my group. The restaurant is pretty big with 3 or more different vendors, almost look like a food court in a way. There are also long table where people can share tables if they don't have big group. You order using a barcode or they will give you tablet to order. Pretty straightforward and easy to operate. Food comes in a little late but not too long. Servers are all nice and kind. Food is great! I love the cumin lamb, spices are pretty good but I wish it has a little more sauce on it and a tad more savory. But that's what additional soy sauce are for! I like the variety of foods this place offers. It has a little bit of everything that I like- rice, noodles, and boba. I got the sliced beef and pickled veggies rice noodles, clay pot rice with chicken and pork ribs (+ Chinese sausage), and pure grape drink. Everything was solid. Oh, don't forget to order your rice dish with the soup or (Tah-ng). Once your done eating the rice pot rice, there's usually a scorched bottom. Use the soup to mix 8n with the scorched rice and it just makes it into this amazing aromatic slurry if soup. Textures, and flavours! (Overall: D) - Social Eatery is an interesting premise with a bunch of small shops that are supposed to specialize in their own dish -- Rice Monster for their Claypot Rice and Noodleosophy for their Noodles. However, I found the food to be subpar (see below) despite the seemingly interesting menu options and certainly overpriced for the basically non-existent service as it was almost entirely self-serve. The area itself was decorated nicely and comforting, but it's not like you go to a restaurant to eat the decorations... (Beef Tendon Soup: F) - This was a disaster-filled bowl. First, the tendon was ironically not tender because it was not braised long enough. Second, the broccoli was straight up raw it felt like it was just picked from the forest. Finally, for a warm soup this bowl of noodles was surprisingly not warm making this just a very unpleasant experience. (Chicken and Mushroom Claypot Rice: C) - We added chinese sausage and egg. Rice claypots take a bit longer, but the crispy rice on the bottom is sooooo good. It comes with some sweetish soy based sauce to drizzle but we didn't because the rice was already rich and oily enough from the meats and we didn't need extra flavor on top of that. I especially love the mochi and black sesame boba, so fluffy and decadent with a perfectly nutty and slightly savory taste from the black sesame. Anywho, Social Eatery definitely piqued my interest when I saw what this place had to offer: clay pot rice and boba? I'm sold. Even though there are different restaurants (I'm not sure if it's the same owner? Or just three restaurants housed in one location?), it is a sit-down establishment and you can order from the same online place. I ordered a rice clay pot, husband ordered noodles, and we both got drinks. He got a mango latte and I got a plain boba milk tea. The waiter also mentioned that we shouldn't pay via the app, and instead, wait until the end where we would have to ask him for the check. I have my suspicions as to why this is (paying online vs sit down service with a check.... You can figure it out). I unfortunately wasn't impressed with my rice dish. The rice was particularly dry, even though I recognize that clay pot dishes usually are on the drier side. Even though that's the case, it just didn't hit the spot like I thought it would. A group of seven of us decided to go here for a friends birthday dinner. The concept of this place is nifty and honestly a very smart utilization of space. There's a noodle place, rice, and milk tea. Maybe there were four but I can't remember the last one. I ordered the beef stew and while the soup was flavored well and the noodles were nice, the temperature of the dish was lukewarm at best. Pretty sure it's common for folks to order soup and expect it to come out hot! The meat was a bit tough but they added a very decent amount. I really enjoyed the thick cut of the noodle and recommend it. Cucumber was good but missing spice. It's very close to the Millbrae BART/Caltrain station (a 3-minute walk) and also has a pretty big parking lot. There's a screen near the entrance for people that are just ordering boba to-go. If you're there for dine-in, they'll lead you to some seats and you can order from all three places at the same time. Lots of seats for dine-in and there's even a foosball table. Our table had a QR code for you to see the menu and order but they brought a tablet over for us to order. Not sure why but I have no issues with that. We ordered Beef Stew & Tendon (公公半筋半腩) and Pickled & Sliced Beef (知府酸湯肥牛). Took a little while for the orders to arrive (almost thought that they were preparing everything from scratch and cutting a whole cow open on the spot), and there were kids running around in the place so it was pretty loud. It's very interesting that you have to pay to add broth... Nonetheless the broth was quite delicious and flavorful. The beef was super tender. I'm also guessing they ran out of bokchoy cause we were given broccoli (which we didn't mind cause we love broccoli). The cumin lamb biangbiang noodle were also very flavorful, definitely had heavy cumin flavoring. The popcorn chicken wasn't bad but it also wasn't the best. The pieces were definitely smaller but I don't think it's as bad as others make it out to be. For the drinks, I wasn't a big fan of the grapeholic drink but enjoyed the strawberry & lemon. I adjusted for less sugar and less ice but the drink was still pretty sweet so would probably opt for zero sugar next time. Overall I think the concept of this spot is pretty cool, definitely a spot a great spot for socializing with friends and enjoying yummy food! We'll definitely be back! read more

The beef tendon with beef noodles is my favorite thing here! You can do the 2 person dine in deal for $56. This includes two entrees, an appetizer, 2 drinks Service was fast. You order on an ipad and people bring out your food as it is ready. It's always full in here and business is good! I'm happy this place is doing well. There's three restaurants inside and you can order from all of them for nice variety in your meal! Mango sago drinks were also really good! It is currently decorated with red lanterns and a red dragon on the ceiling. read more
