Birthday girl enjoying some fried Tempura Ice Cream
Anna N.

First time in the area and was very impressed with the food, service, and everything in between! Here's what we had: - Green curry with Tofu (10/10, made for nice leftovers the next morning) - Pineapple Curry with Chicken (perfect amount of sweet and savory) - Spinach curry with Peanut Oil and Tofu (delicious) - Pad Thai with beef (highly recommend, also great for leftovers) - free tempura fried ice cream for my best friends birthday (yummy of course) - Thai tea (VERY sweet) Our waitress was kind and helpful. She went out of her way to double check peanut contaminants for my friend who is allergic. Got seated right away and enjoyed the overall ambiance of the restaurant. I will definitely be returning!

I am a fan of Soberfish (which has a full bar for the record). Fresh ingredients, artfully prepared at a fair price. The service is consistently attentive. To top it off, the setting is charming. Never had a bad meal here. I should go more often and so should you!

We went out of our way to eat here since the breakfast place we originally wanted to eat had a long wait. Our server was super attentive and friendly. Service overall was great. My wife's cup of water had an imprint of the previous diner which was disturbing. Starting with the sushi, it was evident that attention to detail was lacking. The rice, a fundamental element of any sushi dish, was disappointingly hard, almost to the point of being unpalatable. To make matters worst, this error was repeated not once, but twice during our meal, suggesting a systemic issue in the kitchen's preparation process. Moving on to the fried rice, one would expect a comforting blend of flavors and textures. Instead, what awaited us was a dish plagued by the same hard and unyielding rice encountered in the sushi. Frying the already tough rice only served to exacerbate the issue, resulting in a dish that was difficult to chew and ultimately unsatisfying. The Pad Thai, often a highlight of Thai cuisine, fell flat in terms of flavor and execution. Instead of the harmonious balance of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors that define this dish, we were met with an overwhelming sweetness that drowned out any semblance of complexity. Furthermore, the choice of thick and chewy noodles only added to the dish's lackluster appeal. Overall, my dining experience at Soberfish was marred by subpar ingredients, lackluster execution, and a noticeable absence of flavor. It is my hope that the establishment takes heed of these shortcomings and endeavors to rectify them, lest they risk alienating discerning diners seeking a fusion restaurant. We left the table exactly how it was presented to us, paid and left. Waitress brought boxes for us but the dishes cannot be saved.

Thai holy basil (but where is the basil?).

I just picked up, and threw out, their lunch special. I ordered Thai Holy basil, which the menu says is spicy, and is normally prepared with Thai chiles and holy basil. I was served a pile of barely cooked green peppers and onions with a few pieces of chicken and mushrooms tossed on top. The sauce was clear and tasted like cornstarch - I don't even know what they could have made it with? Thai holy basil is normally made with fish sauce, hoisin and soy. It was flavorless and it's clear that the veg and chicken were precooked and the sauce was poured on top. It definitely was not cooked from scratch in a wok. The person who took my order was nice, but I just can't with the food. It was clearly just assembled and not cooked. I definitely won't be back.

Soberfish has delicious sushi and Thai food! I ordered the salmon roll and California roll and my boyfriend ordered pad Thai. They have two lunch species, both are $14 Thai lunch special: one Thai entree and soup or salad or an appetizer. Sushi lunch special: 2 sushi rolls. Service was great - it was quick and our waiter was friendly. They only have street parking, so parking can be difficult to find sometimes. Overall rating: 10/10

Been here multiple times and it never fail to satisfied my taste bud. Before graduating from college this is a place that is close to my college ( Augsburg). Every time I come back here, the food just always taste so good. First time trying the green mussels and it was pretty good. I don't know what they put on top, but it was delicious. As for the wing, it would be great if the wing was actually well mix with the sauce, but it taste good. The wing are pretty big too! The drunken noodle was good, however i feel like there wasnt enough noodles, it had a lot of veggies. The last but not least, the fiery beef salad. That was so delicious I couldn't finish it . I had it spicy and it was pretty spicy, however it can be handle. The portion of the food was just right and the services was amazing! Overall, a place I would always come back to!

I always enjoy going to Soberfish! It has a good menu with something for everyone, and the happy hour pricing is great. Service can be a little hit or miss, especially depending on the time of day. Typically I'll come here for sushi because it's always fresh and tasty. Recently, though, I tried the drunk fish noodles and was pleasantly surprised! All of their noodle, curry, and rice dishes have the option to add tofu, mock duck, chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, or calamari. I like the options for customization! The portion size was generous for the cost. I'll definitely return to try other non-sushi items. They've got a rotating draft list that always includes some great local brews. The cocktails are reasonably priced as well. Parking can be a challenge, especially during the winter months. There's a small, shared lot behind the building that's usually full. Plan to park on the street and walk a block or two.

Side Kick ($9). Refreshing cocktail on a hot day. Not too sweet.

Soberfish is a Thai and sushi spot that serves mainstream dishes but didn't wow me in any way. The oshinko maki ($5) is vegan by default and not bad but not particularly memorable. The kanpyo ($5) is vegan by default and fine but unremarkable. The W8 Chinese broccoli ($13) is vegan by default but really bland. It's a stir-fry in a bland, clear sauce that was piled on way too much. The vegetables were drowned and flavorless as a result. The W1 Thai holy basil ($13) is vegan by default and also flavorless. There's too much sauce and the the dish didn't really feel stir-fried. It was like they steamed the vegetables and then just poured the sauce on top. The service is friendly. It's a decent space. But if you're looking for better Thai food, go to Amazing Thailand in Minneapolis or Phi Chay in St. Paul. If you want better sushi, go to Kyatchi in Minneapolis.

Thai restaurant. The sushi was decent, like any normal sushi at other places. The noodles was a lot better, the flavors are within every bite. It's classified as spicy but wasn't that spicy. The service was brief and the servers were really nice. A lot of window for light to come through, very open space.

Food was amazing and service even better. I came here for HH and it was sooooo tasty and good. It's right in my neighborhood. Convenient location and intimate spot. Great restaurant for a date night or solo dining by the sushi bar. Come visit ASAP!!!

There is a great variety of rolls so everyone is going to be pleased with the meal. The restaurant itself is tight on space but the dining experience makes up for it. I recommend you beat the dinner rush and go early when they reopen for the evening. Warning, it does get really busy almost everyday because it is just that good! Location-wise it is great because if you struggle to find parking in the small lot next to the spot, you can park on a residential street behind the restaurant and take a short stroll. Everything was perfectly curated and the servers were knowledgeable and respectful. At the end they took our picture for us to keep which was just the cherry on top of a perfect evening. We chose the chef table and it was in a nice quiet corner of the upstairs. A good setting for being able to hold a conversation and not feel distracted by other patrons. Each course was a fun new experience. Being able to brush on the soy sauce was so fun. The sake pairing I'd definitely recommend, and was more than enough for a single person. I saw some people saying that they were hungry afterwards but both me and my boyfriend were not. The portions were perfect, just eat mindfully and slowly and you will feel a good level of satiety. Although it was decently expensive (~$500 after tax) it was well worth it for a special occasion. Also as mentioned by others tips are not expected as they add a 21% surcharge to cover tips. I'd recommend anyone go here if they have something special to celebrate in Minneapolis. We will certainly return next year. Just a brief note on logistics: making a reservation online you will pay a deposit ($100 for 2 people) and that will be applied towards your bill at the end. If you have allergies or are celebrating something you can fill out the questionnaire online. Getting there is quite easy if you take public transit but they also offer valet (I think $10?). There are signs outside the door for the main entrance on the N first Ave side. When you enter the host will check you in on the first floor right inside. There is a foyer if you arrive early with seating. Our hostess guided us upstairs to our table when it was time. Again, 10/10 recommend and thank you to all the people who took care of us and made our anniversary extra special!!!

A lot of the dishes are very novel and not something you'd find in the States outside of very specialized restaurants (like this one). I don't regret trying this once, but I personally don't feel a need to go back. This is an "experience" kind of place, not a restaurant you just go to on a whim. It's like going to an amusement park and riding all the rides. You don't regret going, and you'll have some you really liked and some not so much. But when you're done, you'd rather try a different park with different rides next time. The miso and nigiri were the standouts for me, with the Spanish mackerel being my favorite single thing of the night. Most of the other dishes were interesting in a "I've never had this before, I don't hate it, but I wouldn't order it again" sort of way. It's beautiful inside the restaurant, and we had a clear view of the sushi chef practicing his craft. Service was impeccable. Kudos to the wait staff for making the night feel frictionless. Everything was incredibly well made, but for this kind of price I need to love all the courses, and the egg custard and gourd roll dishes just didn't do a lot for me. But I'm happy to have tried them.

On the other, the menu has somewhat different things I am still not sure how I feel about. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich (err, roll?) I guess is a good and welcome attempt to expand to more American palates, even if it seemed odd. There were some cakes or something also out that, well, some seemed like what I expected, some others did not. They clearly labeled things on the plate holders on the conveyor belt (never seen it done quite so, uh, obviously, before), and since they have six tiers of plates (by color), they can price things accordingly as well. Not going to lie, even tho sashimi was pricer and it looked like the coloring was doing a lot of work, it was nice to have a protein-heavy option without the carbs (as much as I love rice...). Speaking of, their rice is actually decent enough in quality. I guess the overall experience is passable enough, even if it wasn't cheap.
