Great traditional Chinese restaurant in Lynbrook to go with extended family and large parties. A classic dine in Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere is clean and pleasant. A large dish of their fresh fried noodles with duck sauce and hot mustard is always a treat. The option to make an entree a whole meal is nice including appetizer, soup, and dessert. Two of us had half Peking duck which is wrapped in a flour pancake with cucumber, green onion and hoisin sauce with extra crispy drumsticks. Wow is all I have to say! After walking up and down the strip adjacent to the theater we decided to give this spot a try. It was packed, and I see why. Our waitress Sherry was fantastic. Ambiance - superb, cozy and clean. Food- delicious. Everything tasted cook to order, and NO MSG USED at all. It says it on the menu. Drinks - alcoholic drinks were strong. My boyfriends old fashion had him "bent" haha :) Overall a perfect way to end the weekend and start off the week. If you're in the neighborhood, please check it out. I've walked past this place a bunch of time and always told my self I would give it a try. I finally went in for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. The decor was a it outdated but the food made up for it. I had the shrimp and chicken low mein and my fiancé had the general tsos chicken and shrimp. The general tsos tasted more like sweet and sour but it was still delicious. The low mein was absolutely delicious and I would definitely recommend. I loved this place. It took me back to old school Chinese sit down restaurants. I went with my family; we loved it. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. So Far so Good use to be our favorite Chinese restaurant. But the last 3 take out orders were not as good as they use to be! I don't know if they sold,changed owners or have a new cook but it's not the same as it use to be. We use to call our orders in and spoke to Paula. We ordered from her for so long she knew we were calling by the phone number. Everything we ordered was delicious. Apparently she is no longer there & when we asked about her they told us she retired. I don't know if this is true but ever since she's been gone the food is nowhere near as good as it used to be! I know everyone has an off day but after the last 3 orders something just isn't right. The sauces are different & the quality just isn't the same. We bought take out from here in the late 90's until maybe early 2002. We were used to more authentic Asian cuisine, and simply lost interest. Trying not to be a snob. Shrimp Egg Foo Young, Beef n Broccoli, Chicken w Snow Peas n Straw Mushrooms, and Boston and California Roll and Spicy Tuna. The rolls were good earning this place 4 Stars. The Chicken dish was the best if the lot. Plenty of delicate clear garlic straw mushroom sauce and velvety chicken. Delicious! The usual sauce enjoyed in Americanized Egg Foo Young and Beef w Broccoli was less salty, less greasy and very sparse. Hmm, I'm torn. It's definitely heathier, but I needed more sauce, more taste. Appreciate the lack of grease. Live to eat another day. The staff are courteous, the place is immaculate, and there's parking in the front. Get the rolls (maybe not the plain Boston Roll w cucumber and sparce imitation crab) and the Chicken dishes, stay away from traditionally heavy rich dishes. General So's chicken, no sauce on it and tasteless, egg drop soup- Yellow water - tasteless, Young chow rice, terrible, Moo Shu pork - plain and boring - hoisin sauce in packets and had very little pork in it. So my sister had been saying that this is their favorite Chinese restaurant and originally we were planning on doing something else but they asked us to meet them there. My mom and I had come from Roslyn but we got there before them and we were seated immediately. They brought tea and water and a huge bowl of crispy noodles with really good duck sauce and hot mustard. Omg the noodles! Soooooo good. About 20 minutes later my sister and nephew arrived. I ordered a hot and sour soup, it was delicious and as asked they added extra scallions on top. My nephew loves spareribs but he has a loose tooth so we ordered boneless ribs and he let us have a few. They were one of the best I've had. Not too fatty and cooked well. For entrees, we shared Sesame Chicken and half a Peking duck. The Sesame Chicken was ok, I've had better. I prefer the chicken thinner than in chunks. The sauce was a little sweeter than I like too. The duck was very good, loved the crispy skin. Service was very good and the restaurant was very busy, easy to find right next to the Lynbrook train station. This used to be the ONLY place to go for decent Chinese food. It was more expensive than other "takeout" places, but worth it! Our dinner that we got delivered last night was absolutely disgusting. From the egg roll that was dripping grease and looked like it had been fried 3 times the inside was mush. To the chicken & stringbeans swimming in grease, the string beans were overcooked and shriveled. The pork in twice cooked pork were strongly little rubbery bits and whole dish was coated in cornstarch and completely tasteless. Wonton soup had no flavor and the wontons were bloated and mushy. Having returned to So Far So Good for the first time in a while (and the first time since the pandemic hit), I have to give another 5-star rating. Chinese restaurants like these are very hard to come by. With Asian Fusion and cheap takeout dominating the island, it's hard to find a modest, reliable, old school, high-quality sit-down Chinese restaurant like So Far So Good. I'm happy to say they continue to deliver quality during COVID! My wife and I ordered takeout recently because we were craving Chinese food. After placing the order over the phone we were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. We hopped in the car and headed over on schedule, and I immediately noticed the safety protocols: servers wearing masks, tables socially distanced, plexiglass at the takeout counter, and even 6-foot spaced lines of tape on the ground approaching the host stand. Our food was ready on schedule, so we brought it back in the car and headed home. Some places have seen declining quality since COVID, but not this place. The food was as good as ever! It was even still hot when we got home. We split the Sesame chicken, and something about the way they make it here is so comforting. Some Chinese restaurants will slather a heavy amount of sauce, but So Far So Good delivers great taste with a modest bit of sauce and quality chicken at the center. We also ordered the pork bun appetizers, which were so delicious I almost filled up on those alone. Quality quality quality. Everything is prepared freshly and they always seem to be busy. Lemon Chicken was tender and the lemon seasoning was perfect and not overbearing. Fried wontons were crunchy and not greasy at all. Spareribs were very succulent and seasoned perfectly. General Tso's Chicken is a winner. Big Bowl Chopped Shrimp and Wonton Soup or Velvet Chicken Corn Soup. Yes. So you like spicy stuff. Huh? This is for tonight's visit. We came in around 10 to 5. I didn't get out waitresses name. She had her hair pulled back, glasses. I did notice she appeared older than your other waitresses. She was short with me, especially when ordering. Our appetizers while good, came out cold. In the end, as I left her a tip of $5.00 in cash she snapped at me 'where is my guest check?! Where is my guest check?! I accidentally put it into my pocketbook along with my receipt. Why did SHE LEAVE IT ON THE TABLE TO BEGIN WITH, she had no right to snap at me, especially when I was leaving her a tip at the same time. She needs to treat people with RESPECT. I wanted to take that tip back but I wasn't about to stoop to her level. Maybe she was having a bad night, not sure. But she had no right to snap at me. I am not a child. The lady disregarded us and addressed the party of 5, and we immediately spoke up and said, "We were here 1st". She then turned and asked us how many were in our party, and I said "two." She then dismissed us and said, "I have a round table open, I take the 5". livid, I said to My husband "let's go!". NEVER will patronize a place that is that dismissive to a potential customer. Mapo tofu was not cooked like other times. Very little sauce, overdid corn starch in sauce and tofu tasted like sponge all broken up and the sauce had all mushed up tofu. No taste in sauce and this was the Sunday evening cook. Hope the restaurant reads this. I will add my own sauce to the remaining pieces of tofu. read more
