I only knew this was the best salon when I was lured away by a chichi North Scottsdale salon that had all the bells and whistles, except my almost-to-the-length-I-wanted hair and nearly shoulder-length bangs now became an homage to Jennifer Anniston (circa Friends do). I wanted to speed to SnapDragon and beg their forgiveness for cheating. Flash forward a few months and my thick, ethnic, wavy (just plain difficult) hair grew back enough to be ready for a fix. Sure enough, Michaela worked her magic. The layers are blended and virtually disappear into one another rather than remaining like a tiered cake. Yes, their prices are a bit higher than other salons, but you get what you pay for. What is a few extra dollars spread out over a few months? I'll skip a Starbucks or two to have my hair looking nice every day for months!!! ONLY other drawback is limited parking. I echo many other reviews; owner Kandi (sp?) and Jenny are amazing with cut and color in every circumstance. Both perfectionists and always speaking the truth; if they don't think your hair is the type that will hold that color or be right for that cut, they'll tell you! I've overheard them talk to a client who wanted their jet black hair to be a blonde ombré (immediately) and a frizzy, curly girl to have a straight bob. Yes. This salon is amazing. I've had some great experiences at other places, as a hair model or a regular customer. But I don't think I've ever been so well taken care of as I am at Snapdragon. I went in as a house model, and got just the haircut I wanted (long layers) and for the first time, I got an ombré. Joanne was my stylist and she absolutely nailed it!! I am picky and particular and can be reluctant to ever have anyone touch my long hair! I could not be happier. We looked on Pinterest for something pretty to help transition me going lighter. Even Kandy the owner did not have any further instruction on the color. I just love it myself. I look like me but better than before! Isn't that always the goal?? As far as general customer service went, everyone was in a chill mood, happy to help. I had a few cups of coffee and water as well. For a salon there is definitely ample parking too. It's very clean inside as well. I saw a lady get the length chopped off her locks. She looked fabulous when her hair was finished being cut by another stylist. I decided to be honest with them and state that it wasn't really what I'd been looking for. Snapdragon worked with me to set up a second appointment and have my balayage brightened and re-toned so that it would match what I'd been wanting. About a week later, I left the salon with the hair I'd been originally hoping for. What maybe a great styling salon for some is a very expensive mistake for others. I went to Snapdragon because they represented themselves as a salon where different styles are known and supported. It's not. It's just an overpriced regular salon with the same old styles being prominent. You can get the same at Supercuts for much less. DO NOT GET EXTENSIONS AT SNAPDRAGON! I recently had a very unfortunate experience with extensions put in by Kandy, the owner of Snapdragon Salon. Summary: Kandy put a poor extension product in my hair that slipped after each wash. I had the extensions removed about 1 week later due to too much slippage, and I requested a refund. After 3 weeks of waiting for a refund and some back and forth on the amount of the refund, the salon decided they could give me a full refund but they could not invite me back to be a client at Snapdragon. Read on for the detailed version. The complete extension experience required 6 appointments: 1. Consultation 2. Coloring my hair to better match the extension hair swatches 3. Applying the extensions 4. Returning to cut the extensions to the desired length 5. Returning for slippage 6. Returning again for slippage which resulted in the removal of the extensions The extensions slipped after each hair wash. Note: I washed my hair every 3 days as recommended. I bought Bumble and Bumble shampoo, conditioner, hair mask and styling pomade as recommended. I also followed the extensions care guide that was given to me by the salon. After the first wash and hair slip, I went to the salon to get the hair reapplied to the appropriate position on my head. On the second wash, different sections of the hair slipped. I returned to the salon again to get the extensions removed as this was clearly either a poor product, poor application or both. The day I had the hair removed, the owner and stylist Kandy had swatches in her hand and told me she was vetting a different extension hair brand because she was "tired of this happening". I was unhappy that she likely knew she was putting a bad product in my hair from the start. I gave the hair back and requested a refund. After 3 weeks of waiting for my refund, Snapdragon said they could only refund the cost of the hair ($590) and not the service ($310). I had the extensions for about 1 week and returned to the salon twice during that week for slippage, so again, I requested a full refund as the product and services were completely unsatisfactory. Snapdragon said they could give me a full refund but they could not invite me back to be a client at their salon. CONS 1. Several appointments * The complete process required 6 appointments, almost 7 because Kandy forgot to color match my hair to the extensions during my second appointment when she colored my hair. She asked me to return for a color match but I was not available in the timeframe requested, so she best-guessed the color and ordered the hair anyways. * Kandy said she couldn't cut the hair the day she applied the extensions due to possible shrinkage when first washed. I left the salon with 3" longer hair than I wanted and had to return 3 days later for a cut. I was not told this ahead of time. 2. I took excellent care of the hair, but the extensions still slipped during each wash. I was careful not to allow conditioner to touch the extension bonds while washing my hair. 3. A LOT of time and money was invested. 4. Kandy was pretty rough when working on my hair. My head experienced some soreness after I left the salon. 5. It was disappointing that Kandy may have known she put a poor product in my hair and then uninvited me to the salon after I asked for a refund. PROS 1. Mia does an excellent job washing and blow drying hair. 2. Aimee kept me up to date on my refund and was empathetic towards my experience. read more

All of the staff is super knowledgeable about hair!! The best part is they all communicate and provide best practice and advice for their clients which is great! As a girl with curly hair I've had some bad haircuts, some mediocre ones, and a couple good ones. This haircut was my first fantastic haircut. I love it so much! Ana cut my hair, she was super cool and personable and really took the time (over an hour) to get it right. She encouraged me to incorporate my previously-straightened-everyday bangs into the rest of my hair and wear them curly. Turns out it's much more flattering and more professional looking. Nice salon but until the crazy Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, don't bother going. They are not using blow dryers which means if you get your hair colored, you'll have no idea what it looks like until you get home and are able to dry it yourself. Paid around $200 for a cut and color and once my hair was dry, it looked EXACTLY the same as it did before the cut and color. I was very clear with the stylist about wanting something new and for my hair to look different. I was super bummed with the results. The no hair dryer thing is a deal breaker if you're getting your hair colored. Had I seen the results of my color at the salon, I surely would've asked the stylist to try again. I need to find a new salon in Phoenix area so I chose this place based on reviews on yelp. Around 1:30pm or-so, I called to ask if they take walk-ins (according to their yelp, they do) the receptionist said "Not typically, but what are you looking to get done?" I said I just wanted a hair cut, she asked me to describe my type of hair... after that, she asked me to hold and see if anyone is available. A few minutes later, she came back on the line and said 315pm with Lizzie would work. I thought that was perfect! As I was driving across town, literally 3 miles away, around 3pm I got a call from Tasha (I think her name was) and she apologizes but the appointment is taking longer than anticipated and Lizzie won't be able to fit me in today! What a disappointment. I had already driven across town! HOWEVER, she did offer a solution and comp'ed my rescheduled appointment. Then asked me if I can come in the next day. I had plans to leave town for the next 4 days and wouldn't be able to until after. She gladly accommodated and we rescheduled for after my return with Emily. A couple days before the appointment, I received automated text messages to confirm the appt. I arrived at the salon on my appt time and Emily was there waiting. WHEW! She sat me down and asked me what I wanted with my hair.. after a quick discussion she took me over to wash and blow dry. She did a dry cut, which is my first dry cut. To each and their own, I'm sure each hairstylist have a method to their madness. Emily was very sweet and detailed with the cut. NO COMPLAINTS for her! She was great. But it wasn't just exactly my style. The cut was comp'ed so I just tipped. I'm not sure how to even explain it but the layering wasn't what I was looking for. It's I guess my fault because I dont know how to explain what I want to her. Maybe I'm just a little nostalgic about my old hairstylist that moved away. Oh well. My search continues! The interior was very sleek and modern, with mirrors everywhere! Very stylish. The product they use is Bumble & Bumble. I didn't purchase any but seems to work pretty good. I was very upset about my hair, she listened and assessed my hair and we talked about a plan to correct the color. She did a great job and I felt MUCH better after I saw her. I've been to a few places seeking a good men's cut, and Snapdragon has become my go-to place. The best hairstylists in Phoenix work here. My personal hairstylist is Shelby Sherwood. She's preternaturally good at both men's and women's cuts. She's a very tactile artist--she cuts hair very deliberately by sense of feel. I tend to come to her with ridiculous demands: I asked for a mullet one month; another month I brought in a picture of a 19th century aristocrat and asked for his haircut. Whatever I ask for, she works slowly and deliberately with my skull shape and hair to deliver something that will look good for me. I recommend her to everyone I can. read more

Zero stars would be more appropriate because I didn't even get my hair cut. I was wanting to donate my hair but have a few very faded sort of copper colored pieces grown out from a year ago. Totally understandable that it is hard to find places that donate hair that is colored at all, which is why I did thorough research as well as asked and confirmed several times that this was doable here. I had called and asked about it three weeks ago, followed by text confirmation a few days after that. I was told that they DO donate hair if the cut is a minimum of ten inches and the hair must be a natural color if it is colored. I later booked the appointment and again confirmed that this was possible, and yet again have text confirmation that they DO take naturally colored hair. I was also asked to send photos of my current hair, which I did, in which the color of my hair is very evident. Not to mention the confirmation text I received a few days before my appointment. This is opportunity after opportunity to tell me they cannot do what I had asked for but repeatedly I was assured all was well. So tell me why I stay awake after my night shift and drive an hour away from me after spending months searching for the perfect place to donate my hair and get a curly cut, to then be told they don't take colored hair of any kind. Complete waste of my time and energy. Extremely disappointed by this experience. Not even an apology for the inconvenience or any explanation as to why I was blatantly lied to. Relieved I didn't trust such incompetence to touch my hair. Will absolutely never return. read more

Snapdragon saved my hair!!! I had naturally dirty blonde hair (never dyed) when I went to another salon to get it dyed silver-grey. What came out was a weird dirty blonde mess that was slightly sliver with horrible blue streaks. Needless to say when I showed up at work they were pissed. I called around to different highly-rated salons to try to get in same day to get it fixed ASAP, but it was a Friday before thanksgiving so it wasn't looking possible. Thankfully Snapdragon could squeeze me in. I was so lucky to be matched up with Lizzie. I was in her chair in tears (I HATE crying in front of people and it rarely happens, but my hair was terrible and work didn't want me to come back Monday with blue in my hair). Lizzie was understanding and calm and assured me it can be fixed, but it would take a while. She was all booked up, but she managed to work on me between clients that same day to get the process started. She also made time for me to come back the next day to finish fixing it. She did such a great job and my hair was still healthy and didn't need a cut! She is so dedicated, talented, and caring! I absolutely love my hair and she fixed it to exactly what I wanted to get. My first time going to Snapdragon Salon, my expectation was high when I got my haircut. I had a hairdresser, Ginger, who did my haircut in disappointment. I knew Ginger messed up my haircut, but I was polite to pay her well with a good tip. With so much gel on my hair matted down, it was hard to tell until I got home. I washed my hair to see the actual cut. I was appalled by the poor quality of the haircut. Nothing was even or blend in smoothly. Everything was uneven and my bottom haircut looked like a falcon tail and my side haircut looked like a bowl on top of my head. It was so horrible that I was ashamed to go in public. I still have to wear my cap for more than a week. The worst part was when my friends and family members asked me "Who cut your hair?" That did feel good to hear the news. I don't think this is a place for a male salon, in my opinion. It was the worst haircut in my entire experience. I was reading other reviews on Snapdragon Salon, and I couldn't disagree with their comments. I would never go back to that place again. My experience is that these stylists are amazing and expensive but honestly? It's worth it. I've been going to Ultas paying like 20$ less just for a subpar haircut-nothing special. This is worth the extra money. They really take their time with you to make sure it's exactly what you want and also giving advice and some information about the decision you want for your hair. For example my stylist talked me out of bangs cause I said I wanted them at first but then I was like wait youre right LOL! I think she could tell i wasnt sure whether i wanted them or not. :) Glad she gave some info about what I'd have to deal with if I got bangs in the Summer and I am all about that low maintenance! My stylist also gave a lovely head massage when washing my hair xD. Then her blow drying skills... honestly impressive.. sorry I am being highly detailed! I just thought she was amazing! And to top it all off my haircut ended up perfect and exactly what I wanted. Honestly, I have never walked out of a salon with 100% happiness. I've always just felt like "oh, it's nice. It's basically what I wanted but, it could be better. Thought maybe I was crazy but I found the better I was looking for! The only negatives I could find at this salon is that they keep their thermostats at 80 degrees (had a note saying keep at 80) and it was honestly hot in there with all the blow dryers and people standing in one small area. Last negative is apparently their website is not up to date and so I thought I was getting a 50$ haircut with a coupon of 20% but instead come to find out my stylist is normally 60$. So it would be 48$ instead of 40$ like I had thought when I booked. Not once did I hear "she's 60$" over the phone when I booked or when I had said the "the prices differ by stylist right? Is Lizzie Starkey available?She just booked me and that was it. Idk I just dont understand how nobody said anything until I was already paying. They ended up giving me the 40$ discount after the lady from the back came out and said 20% of 60 is all we can do. Then I said to her "Okay just so know I would have gotten a different stylist I wasn't trying to pay that much and its not even my fault so its not really fair."
