I scheduled an appointment for a trim. My hair is a short very blunt Bob. Needles to say I called after getting home and flat ironing it the sides had long strands and it wasn't until my daughter told me the back was longer and not straight. I called 3x leaving voicemails and even emailed the email on website that ended up bouncing back. All I wanted was it fixed. This happened Saturday and today while walking into another salon and putting my cc I get a voicemail after attempts to reach the owner I decided he didn't care about what I have gone through or money I had to pay to fix my hair. I've been going to Abel for about three years and he's ah-mazing! He is so talented and the man knows how to cut Asian hair! He cut my hair in a way that it would last for months and I would get so many compliments months after he cut it. Yes, he's that good! The worst hair experience hands down. Sent me home with clown hair and charged me $425. Next day my hair started falling out. The next day I found a professional who managed to save what was left of my hair. Cost me $600 to fix the damage that this salon caused. All I ever got from shampoo ink was a defensive attitude with an offer to add more chemicals at $75/hr. The picture below is what I was sent home with. Sexist and antiquated pricing policies. Got my hair done by Abby in early June. Paid $240 (including a tip) to have my hair bleached and cut into a pixie. Pricey, but it took time since it was the initial cut and bleach and she did an excellent job. She was friendly and I really liked her! Since my hair is short, I need it trimmed more frequently. I messaged to ask about pricing before I booked because a women's cut and blow dry is listed as $60. A men's cut is $35. My hair is 3 inches in length at most, but I was told it would still be the women's cut and blow dry price because pixies can be "need to be shaped, texturized, etc". Do men's cuts not need to be shaped and texturized? I'm not paying $60 + tip for a trim every 5 weeks. My hair is not that complex. Abel, perhaps should take a step back. You are not that unique in what you do. If your pricing is based on "technical service specialty", your stylist wouldn't be asking for $60 to cut and blow-dry my less than 3 inch long hair. It's terrible that my husband would pay $35 when I would have to pay $60 for the same thing. read more

I've been getting my hair cut here by Sally for a year and a half. I have 3 a/b curls and they have never been better in my life (and I'm 30). My hair has been so healthy we've tried different looks, fearlessly. I've relaxed the curls in the front, it helped the frizz. I've even had her put in balayage highlights with magenta and violet. As a curly girl, you really can't do a straight cut without rocking triangle face. When I finally found Sally she gave me layers to balance my face and to give them more bounce and sass. I've gotten nothing but compliments, and my cut really does make all the difference for stylability. When I first came to Sally, I had my hair styled in the best that it could do with my old cut. We chatted and pointed and I told her about my struggles. She asked me 'Did you mean to have it with an extra long bit in the back?' No! You really have to have your cut match your curl pattern, and a straight cut didn't work for my curls, it looks so uneven. After she corrected with scissors, she washed and gave me a new cut and style. I'd recommend her to any curly girl, she too has curls and understands the struggle. Fix your hair before the first appointment, talk about what you do and don't like about your current cut. Bring pictures! I've had her cut, lighten, color, perm (in order to relax), and style my hair for a wedding. This woman is charming and worth trusting your precious locks too! read more

When I arrived, the stylist took one look at my long strawberry locks and said, "I'm not comfortable cutting this." So I'm here to review one of the stylists at Shampoo Ink, Brittany B. FULL DISCLOSURE: I haven't been to this salon (yet) because I live in Atlanta. I am also a friend of hers, because our friendship developed over the course of time she did my hair. This is important for me to share because I will visit her in Arizona. This is relevant because I will book an appointment with her at Shampoo Ink when I do. MY HAIR STORY: I have naturally dark brown hair, and I dyed it black. Four months later I decided to be a pain in the ass and go from black to blonde, so I let a stylist friend do it. He has been doing hair for 25 years, so I figured it was fine. Long story short, by the time I realized I needed to stop seeing him, my hair was dark red on the top, light brown on the ends, there were chunks of blondish color going from top to bottom, harsh lines at my roots, and completely uneven. Enter Brittany, suggested by a mutual friend and client. Brittany is a hair wizard. She was shocked by the state of my hair, but she was able to work with it. And not just work with it, but make it blonde. Make it even. Make it BEAUTIFUL. I'm posting pictures (before and afters) so you can see her incredible skills. My hair has been killer ever since I started seeing her. But then of course she had to go and move to Arizona! Before she left, we talked about how I have been very hesitant to trust another stylist to touch up my hair, so we agreed that my last appointment with her would be more of an ombre so as the roots grew out I wouldn't look insane. Well, it's been almost two months since she has moved (and about the same time I've been overdue for an appointment) and I still get compliments on my hair. The grow-out still looks nice, and quite frankly, there is no one else in Atlanta that I trust to work with my blonde hair. So either I will keep it like this until I see her again, or I'll have to go back to brown. That is how incredible of an artist she is. I've been getting my hair cut and colored by Alli for over a year now, so I figured it's time for an update. My haircuts and color have been consistently great! So beyond happy that I found Shampoo Ink! Abel is a hair magician, I am certain. I turned to Yelp when looking for a new salon as I've never had my hair colored in the Phoenix area before. Admittedly, I was super skeptical as I am in LOVE with my salon in Chicago - I thought nothing could compare. I stumbled upon a different salon in the area and waited 3 weeks for an appointment on my long, long overdue hair. I heard through the grape vine the week before that they do not do "unnatural" hair colors. I specifically told the salon I had, quote, "Little Mermaid Red" hair when I made the appointment. But I couldn't take the risk. (It has to be easier to find "different" hair salons). I had to leave for Utah for training for a new job and I couldn't roll up looking the way I did. So, I found Shampoo Ink and I'm so happy I did. I had an appointment with Abel and he is such a cool dude and seriously skilled. I knew I was in good hands when I showed him an old picture of myself as a color guide and he stated "I was hoping you wanted to go that bright." Yes! Every individual I met at Shampoo Ink was professional, courteous, and just nice! Overhearing the conversations the other stylists were having with their clients, you can just tell that everyone working there is genuine and loves where they are. My color looks awesome. Awesome. It is still bright, soft to the touch, and super red, almost a whole month after my appointment. My hair was long with an embarrassing amount of split ends and Abel was able to take care of all of that, and provided some great up-keep tips. Today was my first time to Shampoo Ink and I had a wonderful experience! Carley colored my hair a caramel ombré and I am obsessed with it! I've had a couple color treatments done to my hair, but I have never been as satisfied as I am right now. When I called to make an appointment the person on the phone was friendly and happy to help. Also, I the day of but they were able to squeeze me in. Carley was not only friendly and professional throughout our whole session but highly skilled. I told her I wanted ombré but for it to look a little more natural so she blended balayge and ombré together to give me a perfect look! My hair is black and she made sure it looked naturally blended and colored so it didn't look artificial or too done. I also asked her if she recommended cutting my hair and she told me it was perfectly okay to not do it because I recently had gotten one. Most hairstylists would say yes for the money and she was genuine and honest. She also did a blow out on my hair after the coloring session despite not cutting my hair and didn't charge me extra for it. Also, the pricing was reasonable for as much as she did and considering how pleased I am with the end result! I am so happy with my experience at Shampoo Ink, I will always come back! First off, I have to admit that I am not one of those people who gets my hair cut often, usually I have it done every year or two. Since finding this place however, I've been getting it done every few months (this is big for me). I have exceptionally straight and fine hair, but being an 80's baby born in the South I long for a huge wavy mane. Short of using half a bottle of hair spray and a lot of back combing, that esthetic is impossible for me, but this place, and Carley in particular, know some great tricks to give me more natural volume (so I look less like a cover of a White Snakes album and more like a 90's Jennifer Aniston from Friends). Not only do they rock at cutting my hair, they do a great job with my boyfriend's as well, even his beard looks great when he has them sculpt it! Their prices don't break the bank and they even offer an assortment of drinks while you wait (including a number of beers, wine, and juices!) One down side is that the Google appointment feature that comes up when you search for them doesnt actually work, they'll still work to accommodate you but they wont get any notification that you made an appointment. I can say this place is phenomenal, my boyfriend and I have both sat with many of the stylists and never have we walked away not loving our new Dos. read more

I was already nervous coming to this place, becuase it was not my typical Mexican $20 a hair cut place I'm used to stopping at. PLUS I'm horrible at getting regular cuttings. First, the parking SUCKS! I'm sure the hair stylists take up what little parking there is on the street. Than there's 4 spaces in the back of the building. I snagged a spot next door in the rocks. The inside was mordern and new looking. I recognized some of the paintings on the wall that I've seen at First Fridays downtown. It was a nice small shop, pretty landscaping out front. I walked in and there was no one at the front desk. I stood there for about 30 seconds, nothing. So I figured, I'm 20mins early, I'll just sit down. A male stylist walked right by me, looked at me, and dismissed me. LoL Yea, thanks. A couple more female stylists did the same thing. Wow! Did I make a turn into Snotsville, this is my hood, so WTH? Guess I my Ross outfit and heavier look was pretty evident - AWKWARD! Lmao. Finally a blonde smiled and asked if I had been helped. I shoke my head No and she quickly checked me in. SHE atleast was super nice. She walked over and told my stylist I was here, Leona. Leona finished helping the guy stylist braid his clients hair and she greeted me warmly and escorted me to her chair. At first I thought they were going to just treat me to the cheap special and dry cut to get me out of there place faster, seriously uncomfortable first impression. But no, she asked what I wanted (long layers), verified the length by showing where she was going to start and than walked me to the back to wash my hair. I have only got my hair washed once before and this was super nice. Leona shampooed and conditioned my hair with a little scalp massage thrown in. Very relaxing. Taking me back she did her thing and we chatted the entire time...I'm short, but she was shorter and we were laughing because she had to tip toe and reach high up to trim my long hair. When she was done, she blow dried my hair so she can check the lengths again. She told me some great tips on how I can do my hair at home and get the same look that she was doing. A couple more trimming with my hair dry and viola! I had silky soft STRAIGHT hair! She did a great job and she was super nice. $55.00 Women's Cut $40.00 Women's Style That was all I noticed on the huge chaulkboard menu next to the front desk. Would I go back? Definently. I had one of the best experiences here! I have been looking for a salon that would be able to work with my crazy schedule have great prices and be close to my house. Shampoo ink is open late and even open on the weekends! I had JULI who was amazing!!! Went in for a cut and full highlight and it only cost me 65 bucks! Other salons would've cost me over 100 dollars since my hair is so long. However you can't beat that price! The places decor is so cute with the brick walls and chalkboard prices. Abel just opened up his very own salon! I was so happy to discover that the beginning stages of his dream have started- a hip salon (up and running) and a tattoo parlor (in the works)! The cozy salon is located just off of 7th St & Colter in Central Phoenix. I'm so happy with my amazing hair maestro! To be fair, I was seeing Abel (owner of Shampoo Ink) at another salon before he opened up his own and I was always very happy with him there. For those of you with luscious curly locks- look no further than Shampoo Ink (for the men/women with straight hair- if a maestro is great with curly they'll be great with straight)! The salon is very welcoming. The decor is modern and clean. The chalk board with pricing info is nice to see when you go check in and the reception bar (a salon that POSTS their prices!!!!) and mini-fridge has some tasty beverages. Abel took me back to my chair and we discussed my hair and went to work. I honestly barely noticed he was cutting my hair because our conversation was very engaging. Then all of the sudden my hair was being blown straight (a luxury for me- I hate doing it myself) without loading my hair with tons of product. A few finishing touches and voila- I was ready to hit the town! And after a few glorious days with straight hair, the true cut was put to the test- I washed my hair! The curly-hair fear is after a cut and blowout, the cut doesn't fall correctly when the hair is in its natural state. It looks fantastic! Found this place on Yelp while searching desperately for a salon that could accommodate me for a hair cut on a Thursday night. Couldn't believe that a hair place in Phoenix would be open until 10 p.m.! If nothing else, Shampoo Ink is worth checking out just because of their late hours. Background: I have weird hair (wavy in parts, straight in parts) and have a ton of it, so incorrect layering causes me a lot of problems. What I need in a cut is pretty simple but for some reason a lot of haircutters just can't get it right. They either cut too much or too little. Sometimes, the haircutter can't deal with the waves and just gets creative, so when I straighten my hair one can see the obvious hack job that was done. I have suffered many bad haircuts (the worst is getting too much lopped off the top so I look like Krusty the Clown), and often have to get a second haircut to fix what yesterday's haircut got wrong. I hate having short hair and I especially hate it when it's forced on me by a stylist after I spend a great deal of time explaining what it is that I want and paying a good amount of money for it. Fortunately for me, Abel at Shampoo Ink got it just right and I won't need a second haircut. Abel was articulate, considerate and attentive. (He's also a tattoo artist.) Over the past 5 years that I've lived in Phoenix, I've been to several different over priced, loud salons with awkward stylists and never left any of them completely satisfied. After reading reviews on Yelp, I tried out Shampoo Ink. It's the only place that really made me happy and that I would recommend to other people. I've been to the salon three times now and had Celi (Sally) cut and color my hair. She is so pleasant, easy to work with and fun to talk to. She was able to match the exact color of the dye job that I had done before I started going to Shampoo Ink. Each time I had my hair cut, I left the salon with healthy, stylish and shiny hair. Celi also cut my 3 year old daughters hair and worked really well with her. No complaints at all, just complete satisfaction each time! Another review mentioned that parking is difficult but I've never had any problems parking in the lot behind the salon or on the street. The prices are extremely reasonable and the salon is cozy. I have an appointment with Abel to cut my 18 month old sons hair next week. This is the only salon I plan on going to for all of my cut and color jobs and my kids' haircuts. If you have curly hair go see Sally! Last person that was good at cutting my curls moved to a different state. It's been almost 7 years and I've been to 6 different hairdressers. Sally is "the one". Curly hair is different, the right haircut makes a world of difference. Sally cut my hair 1 week ago and I've had good hair days since. Sally understood when I said I need tons of layers, listened when I told her my curls were clumping and heavy at the bottom, most importantly she took her time to blend and texture my entire head of hair (I have tons of hair). I really wanted to like this salon. It has a cool concept with the art work and the tattoo artists that are there. It is in a cute spot! I just did not have the best experience. I went in to donate my hair for locks of love. I found this place by a google search for places who are familiar with the donation. Julie booked my appointment and even changed my time to later because of work! Excellent right? Yes, so far I was off to a good start. I had measured my hair length the night before and figured 10 inches would be right at my shoulder blades. When I sat down in the chair with Julie we discussed my hair style, I even showed her pictures of a couple styles I liked. She then informed me that she did not have a tape measure. Her co-worker offered her a comb that had a ruler. Great we measured what we not agreed on 10 inches. Her co-worker then says, well cut above the pony tail holder. I could not see where the pony tail holder was in relation to the measure line. Julie then started to cut...OMG it was three inches below my ears. Oh god! It was not like I could glue my hair back on. She then proceeded with the color. Meh. It was all over dark brown, I had some highlights in the front, she said they might show through but they showed through REALLY bad! The next day at work under the fluorescent lights it was really pronounced. So now onto the cut. I had told Julie that I had wanted to make sure my hair could go into a pony tai. She had mentioned an angled bob. I told her I had that style in the past and did not want it again because it was a pain to grow back out. Well, like the pony tail cutting process, she went ahead and cut it the way SHE wanted it. The hair on the very back of my head is about two inches long ;( I paid her the $70 for the cut and color and even tipped her $20 but I will not be back. I went home and measured my pony tail and it was 15 inches. How does 10 inches off turn into 15... that is such a huge difference. I really wish that I had been listened to when having such a personal thing as having that much hair cut off. Having recently over the past year become obessed with Shellac (My job is rough on my hands and I gave up getting a traditional manicure or painting my own nails because they would not withstand the abuse...and then I found Shellac and my love affair began) I am always looking for a good deal on it. I have gone to a couple of places (my usual discount place where normal manis are just fine..to find that their Shellac training isn't super...to other salons...to find that they mix Shellac with other off brands and then you have to go back twice to get them fixed in one week...don't get me started). And then I found Gaylee..... I don't know what she does different, maybe it is because she listens to me when I say my hands go through the ringer at work and puts two top coats on... I don't know... But I have never had better Shellac manicures than I have had with her! Now every time I see a deal of her's online (I am on a strict budget here people...sorry...I would rather spend more money on the tip than the product) I grab it... Centrally located at Shampoo Ink, she is easy to get to when I am out and about running errands... She is flexible in her scheduling and witty in her chatting (last time I was in we actually looked up a new eatery down the street on Yelp mid manicure). I would recommend her to anyone... *Side note...parking is a b*tch at Shampoo Ink, but it is worth the minor annoyance to get the best Shellac manicure in town.... I absolutely love this salon! Every time I come I feel welcomed and at home. The decor is very modern and there is lots of cool artwork to look at while you wait. Sonia colored and cut my hair. I'm not picky when it comes to color so I allowed her to do whatever she liked to it which turned out amazing! I also wanted to go from long hair to short hair and she knew exactly what I wanted. She did such an amazing job on my hair and I left so happy! No one else will touch my hair but her and I will definitely continue to go to shampoo ink. read more

I have been here three times and each time I wait 30 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. Nobody mans the front desk, even the people ringing up their clients look at you and carry on as if you're not there (even if it's your own colorist, no acknowledgement of whatsoever of I'll be with you shortly), if you go back to the salon area to see what the holdup is, nobody so much as looks up at you to see what you might need, or whether you've been helped. If you want people to disrespect you and waste your time, this is the place for you. read more

I'm sad to say that I won't be returning to Shampoo Ink. I had texted Juli to see how much a cut and color was. A little on the pricey side for me, so I was going to wait awhile until I went in. Then, I was in contact with Abel, the owner. I was going to be a part of a cutting class, which gave me a free cut. So, I texted Juli to ask if she could color my hair the day of the cutting class. Giving her my business for a color was better than nothing at all (I thought). Soon after I sent this text, Abel calls me and tells me that I cannot do the class because I am Juli's client and he "didn't want to step on any toes". I can only assume Juli had went to him and complained that she wasn't going to be cutting my hair. I don't recall ever signing a contract to only see one stylist here. Abel also had my name and either didn't look me up to see if I was already a customer, or he didn't think it was an issue that I was a customer but then Juli complained. There are plenty of other salons to go to, and many are cheaper and closer, but I liked Juli and how she did my hair so I WANTED to endure the 40 minute drive there. Abel's choice to call me and tell me I wasn't "allowed" to go to the class was a terrible business choice. Very petty for $40. Think of the customer as a person, not as an object that BELONGS to one stylist. read more

Mark and I both tried a few places before finding Shampoo Ink on Yelp. Can't say enough about how awesome this place is! Abel (the really hip owner) takes care of Mark's hair - he's got long hair and wants to keep growing. Mark has had some bad experiences in the past and now swears he will go to Abel forever. Abel's sister Celi is my go-to for color and cuts. She is an awesome stylist and real cool to 'hang' with while I'm there. My hair always turns out exactly the way I want it, to the point where I just let her choose the color because she now knows what I like - no problem with either of them remembering us from visit to visit, a problem we've both experienced in the past. The place is beautiful and inviting. The prices are so much better than any of the other high-end establishments we've tried. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! read more

TLDR; Victoria Lee is a brilliant hair dresser that will go above and beyond to, not only give you a gorgeous mane, but make sure it's both healthy and stylish right out of the gate! Long Version: I am an out of towner who was in the middle of a bleaching process and in desperate need of getting the nasty, brassy yellow taken out of my hair before a design conference (off color hair before a conference dedicated to design? Nope.com)! I called up Shampoo Ink in the hope that they would be able to do a last minute tone and trim for me (even though I really wanted to get to the next stage in my color) and they had a slot available! Horray! When I arrived I was greeted by Victoria Lee and her glorious green tresses. She sat me down and asked me what we were looking at. I told her, "I really wanted to go pastel purple, but it's already 8:30pm and I don't want to keep you, so just toning out the yellow will be okay." Instantly she assured me that time was not a problem, and she could give me what I wanted as she never wanted to leave her customers anything less than totally happy with their hair! Service 10/10: Seriously, Victoria was super attentive, very away of my hair needs, listened carefully and delivered! Of course, she offered the usual fare of drinks and candies, however she also threw in a deep conditioning for my very processed hair, which left it looking glossy and vibrant for the rest of my business trip :D Cut 10/10: Victoria used hair contouring and gave me adorably fluffy bangs (which I asked for) modeled off of Clara Oswald from Doctor Who! Exactly what I asked for and slimmed my baby-face considerably. Seriously, if you haven't heard of hair contouring yet, do it, it's awesome. Color 20/10: Weeks later (and I don't know how many washes) I am still getting compliments on the color. It is so well done and unique, it fits the name "designer" incredibly well! A deep plum that fades into a pastel silver/violet with a slightly conservative cut that screams "I am creative but get the job done". It toes the line between loud and chic very well. The color has held up well (even under hot water!) with the right shampoo, and I haven't had any bleed onto my clothes. Quality and style could not have been better Price 10/10: For the amount of time, care and quality Victoria Lee spent on my hair I got a straight up steal! I left Shampoo Ink looking 10x better than I ever have leaving a designer salon at a fraction of the cost. Funky or conservative, Victoria Lee is a wizard with color and a necromancer of hair repair, she'll bring your dead frock back to life! I can't recommend her enough! read more

I made an appointment for a haircut at Shampoo Ink after finding them on Yelp. Cassie cut my hair - she was very nice and went over everything she was going to do before she started. She even gave my super straight hair a cute little curl when she was done. I really like the framing around my face. The only downside to the experience were the two ladies getting their hair and makeup done in the room with me. They would not stop jabbering really mean things about people they knew. It was pretty exhausting to have to listen to for an hour. read more

I love Shampoo Ink! In particular, I love Heidi! I've been going to her for a while now and she always gives me the cut I want. And when I leave, everyone loves my hair. She's consistent with her results which is a HUGE plus for me. I've already referred several people to her who have also gone to her and RAVE about her and how kick ass awesome she is. I love her energy and the energy of the studio and the fact that everyone is just themselves there. I HIGHLY recommend Heidi however if you can't get in with her because she's so busy, everyone else does a great job too (you can tell when you like other peoples' haircut. ;) ) Go forth and look awesome! read more
