First time at Snapdragon. Such a pretty salon! I've been going to a curly salon for my curly/wavy hair all the way down in Tempe and decided to make a big change and wear my hair straight. Plus, wanted something that's a closer drive to my home/work. My appointment on Tuesday was with Ashleigh, @locksandlore, and she was the absolute sweetest. Even though she's a curly specialist, I wanted someone who truly understands my hair as I make this big shift. I made an appointment for a consultation with Jenny, a "master" stylist. I had a photo of a prior cut I had received in NY and wanted that. She said no problem. I do have wavy curls that go in different directions, which is why I wanted someone with more experience. They made an appointment for a cut right after the consult. The four photos are 1) what I wanted, 2) the pre-cut side, 3) pre-cut front, and 4) the "master" cut. Complaints: She split her time between 4 clients at once, so was always leaving in the middle of cutting and seemingly forgetting what she had started, even WITH the photo I had. With the staccato stop and starts, it took longer than necessary. She charged me a whopping $125 for a cut that is not that difficult!!! It was a shock when I got to the register, but she was already gone to her multitude of simultaneous clients. I also bought a $16 travel size bottle of dryspun texture spray she recommended as I will be traveling for 3 weeks. The problem? The tip I added for the cut was also applied to the spray bottle, but I did not know until I got the emailed receipt as they would not give me a printed receipt!!! Frankly, I looked better going into the salon than leaving. The total damage was over $168!!!! There was no coloring, no extensions, and no great "master" cut! Although everyone was quite friendly, I will not be returning. It was robbery to charge that amount for the cut and service I got. I moved and tried the salon as a new highly recommended salon. It is the worst experience I've ever had at a hair salon mainly two out of my three appointments or last-minute cancellations because these stylists didn't feel well. One was the day before vacation. The second one I was leaving work and rushing to get there and they told me the appointment canceled because she's sick again can't depend on anyone here and they basically blew it off so they can maybe find somebody to help but nobody wanted to. Cait is my absolute favorite hairstylist ever! I first started going to Snapdragon 2 years ago and was Cait's model. She has grown to understand my hair and how to make it look the best it has ever looked. She puts in the work and the results are impeccable. She is knowledgeable of her skills but still looks to push herself to hone in on her craft. I love how attentive she is when doing my hair and really shows she cares. Its important to have a hairstylist who not only cares about your hair but also you as a person. I never really understood the importance of sticking with the same hairstylist until I met Cait. I love sitting in her chair because it just keep getting better and better!! Also, this salon is filled with the nicest people. Everyone is so friendly from the girls at the front desk to other stylists who stop by while I'm getting my hair done to chat or even compliment Cait on how good of a job she is doing. Overall the experience did not match the price and was unimpressive. From booking the appointment on, nothing really went smoothly. After booking online they asked me to text pictures of my hair + "inspo" and I sent them quickly, never hearing back. A couple weeks later, I logged in to view my appointment and noticed it wasn't confirmed. My mom thought we better call and make sure it was happening, so confirmed at that point. I had booked full highlights and upon discussion with the stylist determined a partial would suffice. I was then charged for half head babylights (not even sure what babylights are - priced between partial and full) and then a bunch of add-ons they are not upfront about them being add-ons, the cost, or what they are. The salon is hip and trendy rather than professional and luxurious. My stylist was running ~30 mins behind, and someone was supposed to text me and didn't, so I showed up a few minutes early and just sat and waited. No one took responsibility but they gave apologies. On that particular day, it wasn't a huge deal because I was already off work for the day after another appointment and had no plans after, but pretty much any other day, this would have been a pretty massive issue & inconvenience. I spent quite a long time with my head in the shampoo bowl with toner on, a position that does not agree with my neck (I would have spoken up but my stylist disappeared), not to mention there was a crying baby that whole time. At least one of the products used had a strong scent that made me feel ill the rest of the evening. I am very sensitive to fragrance. The second star here is really just because they did not totally mess up my hair or anything. It's looked better at other places for similar or less price, but it's... fine. read more

I've seen Christian about three sessions and every time I leave completely happy. Today, we've finally met our goal and I'm leaving completely ecstatic. She is incredibly intuitive and direct, I'm never left wondering. The salon has such a great vibe, filled with a variety of stylist who specialize in so many different things. She is very knowledgeable, personable and continues her education. It's clear she has a passion for hair and for her clients happiness. Her energy is so sweet! It was amazing the correction she was able to perform with my damaged hair. I look like me again! She was also helpful w/some free samples to help get my hair back on track. I also want to note that the receptionist Kaitlin was awesome, kind and helpful as well. She answered all the questions I had. From the minute you walk in to the minute you walk out the staff is there for you. The energy of the salon is also wonderful and peaceful. I originally came in 2014 and had a great experience. Soon after I moved out of state. It took me awhile to remember the name when I returned to AZ (I've had a T.IA. since) when I did quickly booked. What I'm trying to say is that after 11 years Snapdragon still stands and holds the same energy of integrity, continued education and customer satisfaction as it did in 2014, as well as quality stylists. Stars for service because everyone was really nice! I went in for my first appointment and waited about 20 mins after the start time. Then i got a hair mask and my hair sat in the sink for another 20 mins. I get appointments can fall behind but it wasn't the best first impression for me. I just wanted a haircut with bangs. i have long hair and have had the same hairstyle for years so i was nervous for a big change but excited. I knew exactly the look I wanted and showed photos to the stylist. I'm really disappointed to say that I absolutely hate my cut. I'm not the type to say it at the appointment but immediately after my bangs were cut I wanted to cry. I wasn't asked during the process what felt right. I trusted her after showing the photos and explaining I wanted "wispy bang with layers." Too much of my hair became bangs all at the same length. And it was wayyy too short. I know bangs will grow, but they aren't layered like I asked! I feel like an 8 year old cut my hair on accident. I hate it so much that I want to just wear hats for the next couple months. Once it grows out, I'm trimming them myself. I'm really sad I didn't like the cut. I was excited since a friend of mine recommended this place. $70 down the drain. read more

After searching around Instagram for salons and stylists near me, I happened across Snapdragon and liked the vibe on their IG page. I ended up booking with Hailey for a reverse balayage + cut + Brazilian blowout. I wanted to take my 5-month-post-partum blonde to a healthier, shinier, subtley darker look after being at naturale during my pregnancy. These services were done on Dec 13, 2021. After sitting several hours for the color to be completed, we started the Brazilian blowout. The stylist raked the brush through my damp hair, breaking the strands and abs pulled the brush down. I asked her to not do this since I am post partum and already having issues with my hair. She replied that she wasn't breaking my hair. Ok...as if I cannot see, hear and feel the hairs on my own scalp snapping as she drags the brush through...This was irritating but I just kept quiet. Once we were finally able to get blow drying and I could see the final color, I could tell it was entirely too dark. The stylist kept making comments to me about how pretty it was, knowing full well that the color was too dark and that this did not at all turn out like I requested. After being in a salon chair and away from my baby for 5 hours, I just wanted to leave, despite my great disappointment. I then paid $600 (you also have to pay for the salon's bleach, color products that they use for their services although they do not tell you this up front) for hair that looked worse after leaving than it did when I walked in. On February 3rd, I returned to touch up my base color since it was so dark, it was contrasting starkly with my regrowth at roughly 7 weeks after my initial appt in December. I let the stylist know that it was too dark last time. We decided to add some highlights to break up how dark it was (I paid for that despite the necessary color correction being due to the stylist's error) because I don't have the emotional energy to explain how unhappy I was first time around. The plan was to darken my base but not as harshly as last time. This time it ended up too light and I have a line of demarcation between the last color application and the new one at my roots. As this grows out, I will have a dark band that will be difficult to blend with. I then paid $238 plus a tip for this service. All in all, I have paid $938 to Snapdragon for 2 hair appointments between December and February and I am deeply unhappy with how my hair turned out. The color was way wrong, my Brazilian blowout only lasted roughly 6 weeks despite me only washing 2-3x a week with the Brazilian blowout products that they gave me. It makes me sick to my stomach to think how much money I've spent getting my hair ruined. I don't even like driving by the salon because it's so upsetting. I was going to attempt to have them fix the last work done on February 3rd but I have absolutely no faith in their ability to do so. What's worse is how invalidated I was made to feel when I made polite assertions about what what didn't look right back when I was in the chair. I kept going back and forth between leaving a review or not but I decided I would because maybe this could be helpful for another person like me. If you have thick, dark hair, please find a salon that solely specializes in that department, especially if you're looking for curtain bangs, or any type of bangs for that matter. I came in wanting wispy curtain bangs and a ton of layers for some spunk in my hair. This place had the exact vibe I was going for so i really thought I was leaving with nearly what I wanted. I left with the bulkiest bangs I've ever seen in my entire life. They go so far back, I can barely tuck them into a headband. My hair is just shorter and cleaner thankfully, but still absolutely no layers in sight. I value my hair and I regret not doing my research better and going with my gut. I cried the entire day. I had to cancel my plans for that evening because who did I think I was looking like lord farquad at a cute restaurant in downtown phx. I drove back to the salon two hours later because of how bad my bangs looked and although I appreciate her efforts to try and make them look better and show me how to properly style them, I honestly would've preferred she just told me they looked awful and gave me refund. I would've felt more validation knowing that they messed up rather than telling me "it's just hair it grows back, it's going to be okay". I understand that, but some people truly truly love their hair and it makes them who they are. I understand it's a tough industry to be in because people are peopling with their hair, but maybe some honesty about not being able to have the bangs that I wanted to achieve would've been nice. So I had a bit of an existential crisis after finding a gray hair the other day. After a couple of days of confronting my own mortality, I decided it was time to finally get my hair done and I made the emotional decision to go against all meme-culture advice and get me some COVID bangs.... And let me tell you I am SO glad I did and that I got Eevee as my stylist. She's super cool, easy to talk to, and sooo talented. I did major research looking through top rated salons in the greater Phoenix area and reading through the different stylists. I found Ashleigh at Snap Dragon Salon and looked through her work on Instagram. She clearly has mastered doing balayage. I got a "lob" type haircut with layers and balayage done on my lighter brown hair. She made sure to listen and address all my ideas, questions/concerns, look at my various example pictures, and walk me through the whole process. With COVID-19 I was in lockdown for 4 months in California with awful root grow out and she made my hair look and feel phenomenal again. Stef definitely knows her blondes!
