I walked in to place an order for the following day. When asked what I would like, I explained that I was ordering for a family event and wasn't sure what the best option was. One of the nice young ladies sat me down and explained their options to me, which really made the process easy. Evert staff member I encountered was friendly and professional. When I arrived the following day to pick up my order, they were busily building my order, on time. They even offered to help me take it to my car. This is NOT good BBQ! Friends took me to Smokies while I was visiting Tulsa this weekend., We shared a Fat Boy Platter andFire Crackers (fried jalapeño's) as an appetizer. The restaurant was filled with, but we were seated promptly. Our waitress Ray tried to be cleverly playful. However, just came across as insulting and obnoxious. Although, she did get our drink order quickly, kept us sufficiently hydrated and took our order quickly. We quickly got our Fatboy Platter and had to remind Ray about our Fire Cracker order, which she admittedly forgot to turn into the kitchen and said that they would be in the house. The Fatboy platter was a generous serving of BbQ. However, one could immediately realize that the food had been out of the smoker for some time. The Texas bread, was not toasted. Just soggy white bread. The potato salad was warm. The pulled pork was a ball of greased pork fat. Its appearance would lead one to believe it had been pulled from its container by the hand full, or weighed out into a bowl and just slapped onto the tray in one fatty glop. There were two kinds of sausages that were over smoked to crinkled point of dehydration. Sliced, the cross section of the sausages would further support their over cooking or suggest they had been sliced for some time. Being from Texas we had ask how the brisket was served or if we could get it thick cut. The waitress told us the brisket had already been "sliced" before it was ordered. To which it had been. It had been sliced paper thin, sometime before our arrival, allowing every bit of moisture to escape it. Served it was cold, dry and flavorless. The smoked ham was dry and flavorless. The smoked poultry was not off the bird, but more like lunch meat or roll. It too was dry. The smoked bologna, which should have been shaved (imo) was cut thick, with very little flavor other than warm bologna. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone. Did have a nice flavor, but also cut some time before our arrival, dry and overcooked. Smokies also has no signature sauce and offer Over the counter Head Country. Which is what I use at home, but would hope for more going out. We were compt our tardy Fire Crackers, which were good and possibly the only thing freshly prepared on our order. However, Smokies was a major disappointment, and a poor reflection of the BBQ in the Tulsa area. 4 of us, hungry men, shared the platter and over 1/3 was uneaten. Yuk! read more

Before walking through the door of this perfectly decorated BBQ shack, I was awakened to one of the most incredible hickory aromas I have ever experienced. To say the smell was delightful is a gross understatement... it is the best smelling barbecue joint I have entered. Those reading this are probably wondering if the food matched the smell, and my answer is sort of. I ordered the ribs and sliced beef, and the ribs were exceptional, maybe the second best in Tulsa. Those prefer tender ribs, might even rate them as the best, but I prefer a little tougher, naw on the bone, spicy chew, like BurnCo - my #1 for ribs. The sliced beef is a different story. It is very thinly sliced and more reminiscent of roast beef than sliced brisket. I didn't love it, but If this place had brisket that matched the deep hickory smoked deliciousness of the ribs, it would really be an incredible barbecue experience. We were looking for some great brisket and unfortunately this place fell short of that. The service was friendly, the food was tasty but the amount of oiliness was truly off putting for us. I am sure there are loads of people who can eat like that but we aren't those people. Also, we ordered sliced brisket and were so surprised when it came to the table sliced like deli meat. There was also a lot of fat in with the pulled pork. That said, the okra was delicious, but even that needed to be removed from the container it was served in because it was sitting in a lake of oil. There are so many BBQ places to choose from, so please do better. For now we will stick with Leon's BBQ in Tulsa. THAT is amazing BBQ. read more

Quite a busy place! The smoker gave a great aroma whilst walking in from the parking lot, and most every table was full when we got inside. Good crowd for a Thursday. Didn't want a huge amount of food, so hubby and I chose to share the Triple Combo, and got hot links for him, sliced brisket for me, and chicken that we both enjoy. For sides, we got potato salad and onion rings. The stars of the Plate were the potato salad, the hot BBQ sauce, and the chicken, when soaked in the juices in the cup. The sliced brisket was unfortunately dry, probably because it was sliced wayyyy too thin. It had a good taste, but...almost took on a Jerky quality the way it was sliced. The hot BBQ sauce sort of rescued it. I tasted a small piece of the hot links, which was pre-sliced as well, and it was spicy. The best meat on the plate was chicken, also sliced super thin, but, it was served in a cup, with some juice in the bottom. Yum! The potato salad was fantastic, and must be ordered with every plate, by every customer! Overall, I think I'd go with a sandwich if I ever ordered the brisket again, and ask for slaw on top and definitely add the Hot BBQ sauce! read more

Oklahoma... is it the South? Is it the Midwest? Nobody really knows... you get different answers from different people. Is Oklahoma a flyover state? Maybe... it's not an absolute "yes" like Kansas. The drivers are certainly worse in Oklahoma... But I digress.... There are definitely good people and hidden gems in Oklahoma and Smokies BBQ is one of these hidden gems. Pulled into the Smokies lot on a stormy April day after trekking through Sequoyah State Park down by Muskogee. As we were trying to find Smokies from the road, my navigator noticed sweet smoke drifting out of a vent attached to a smaller shack-like building with a parking lot full of cars... Eureka (we'd found it!) The patio was full of people avoiding the rain and waiting for a table to open up... we were already drenched to the bone and f*****g famished from a 2 hour trek, half of which was through heavy rain. When we were told it was a 45-minute wait to be seated in the dark sexy BBQ shack, our reaction was basically "Hell to the naw, to the naw naw naw, helll naw!" So we ordered to go. The ribs were highly recommended by staff and we got 'em, along with brisket for my dog (who despite hailing from Israel is incredibly discerning when it comes to American BBQ,) and links. We were also given an assortment of sauces. Despite warnings from the staff that fresh habaneros are used in the Atomic Slaw... I ordered it. Bring on the pain! The order took a while to come out. As soon as it did, we headed to the nearest local park that my navigator had found via Google Maps to have a covered area with tables. We then proceeded to eat the best damn ribs I've had in a loooong time in the midst of what felt like a hurricane. Napkins, straws, plastic lids, just about everything but the food and my dog who seemed to approve of his brisket meal blew away. Man.. Oklahoma weather is no-joke crazy. The Atomic Slaw was not too hot.. it was actually delicious.. I wish they provided saltines because I'd have loved to put that on a cracker. This is the best "BBQ" in Broken Arrow but not in the Tulsa area. We went on a Saturday night and had a 20 min wait. I never let the wait time factor into a review because yes, we all hate waiting, but if there is a wait, it's probably for a good reason. Let's get to it: The good: * the meat is good - isn't that what matters? I had a two meat sammie with chopped brisket and hot links. The links were spicy. * wide selection of sauces if you're into that. * the sandwiches come on ciabatta bread instead of traditional white Texas toast. * Was able to add one rib as a side to my sandwich. The not so good: * The most disappointing part of the meal was my basket of onion rings. Soggy. Bland. Sonic has better onion rings, and so does Rib Crib. Can you tell the sogginess from my photo? * As I mentioned above, there are several sauces to choose from but it doesn't appear they have their own signature sauce. They all appeared to be store bought like Head Country. * The waitress didn't get my "I'm gonna get you sucker" reference when I ordered one rib. What's wrong with her? * The interior was sticky. I get it, it's a BBQ joint outside of Tulsa Country so I'm not expecting fine dining, but I would like to use sauce bottles without wrapping them in paper towels first. Typically most places serve brisket sliced thicker and I can request a fatty piece but not here, they mix the fatty pieces with everything else and serve it in a pile. I am not comfortable going to Broken Arrow because there is no mask mandate and nobody there seems to give a flip about even trying. But this restaurant is different! They are down to only five tables so that people can socially distance. All the employees wear masks. (That I can see anyway.) And you can scan their menu so you don't have to touch one if you don't want to. my food was great. For a dollar upgrade I was able to order the kids meal which was totally worth it for me. I had smoked sliced chicken on a bun with their smoky sweet house barbecue sauce. My husband had the three meat combo and added a hot link. Their fried okra was crispy And good which is my barometer of any barbecue place. I will definitely go here again. Came here on the advice of a local and it did not disappoint. The ribs were by far some of, if not the best ribs I've ever had. They had some much flavor I didn't even need to put BBQ sauce on them. I got the fat boy platter which was enough for 2 people, so I couldn't even finish it myself. It was easily some of the best BBQ I've ever had. The reason for the four stars, the brisket was cut a little thin for my liking but still delicious. Really my only gripe was the fried okra, I must have gotten the bottom of the batch because it was fried to the point it was burned, so burned in fact I couldn't use my fork because it would just break apart. I came here as a visit during a work assignment and saw the reviews were pretty good. Inside the place looks like one of those places Guy Fieri would visit on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Whatever you call this place, this place is legit. I ordered the triple combo or whatever they call it. I call it party in my mouth. One of the biggest reasons why I gave this such a high rating is that they do something many other BBQ joints don't do - they offer sliced, diced, and meats that are already cut. I can't stand bones in meat. Nothing makes me want to spit out food quicker than finding out I've been chewing a bone the entire time. This is why I stay away from BBQ ribs. I don't find the attraction to ordering 1-2lbs of ribs only to find out that 75% of the weight is bone. The sides were great too and so was their Texas Toast. The service was quick also. What's hilarious is that I got my food quicker here than I do at some of the "fast food" locations in this same area. Overall, if you are in the area, stop by Smokies. It's all meat. No bones.
