This might be the first time I've been to this location. I wanted a lighter lunch so I went with the sweet potato with chopped brisket. (I ordered it without the brown sugar.) The potato was large and perfectly cooked with a good amount of brisket and a dollop of sour cream. I did have to douse it all with a lot of BBQ sauce. Might have needed a bit more seasoning. Servers were very helpful. They were doing a pretty brisk lunch business (despite the street issues out front). read more

When I walked into Albert Gs to grab a quick bite I stood at the counter looking at the menu. No one greeted me. No one said welcome to Albert Gs. There was no help. Just stares. Once I decided what I would order (the brisket sandwich) I told the worker and paid with cash. He dropped the return money in my hand allowing change to hit the counter. No apologies. He just stared. So I stared back wondering if he was special. I picked up my change and sat down waiting for my food. While I waited there were other people who came in after me and ordered who received their food before me. When I received my food I was glad to be leaving. Hungry, I got home and opened the bag finding a three day old looking dry as a desert brisket. It's was borderline beef jerky. This place isn't what it used to be. I won't be back. First, the pulled pork is very tender and good. Sadly, I got insanely sick with food poisoning from the potato salad. That product had to be kept cool appropriately or it develops bacteria. I was in gut wrenching pain in my stomach and could not sleep for hours along w vomiting. Thankfully after about 6 hours I felt human again. What struck me immediately was the friendly service--not always the case--duh--at places where you order at the counter and then everything is delivered to your table. But I will be a repeat visitor whenever I'm in Tulsa for the ribs alone--meaty, tender and great smoked taste. Albert G's first opened to the Tulsa public in 1992 at a refurbished gas station. Now it's available at the Harvard, Downtown, and Tulsa Hills location. Most people know Albert G's for their smoked meats, few know that it's anti-scurvy, especially the founder Chuck Gawey. The steamed broccoli at Albert G's is truly terrible. It tastes like the broccoli is steamed in lemon juice, extremely sour. I feel protected from scurvy for the next 3 years by eating half of the steamed broccoli. The good news is the fried okra is a lot better; thank goodness! Nothing beats the fried okra from Oklahoma Joe's though. The ribs are the restaurant's biggest highlight, very flavorful and savory, a little dry than one would desire, but delicious otherwise. read more

A Saturday lunch with my wife saw us at Albert G's barbecue. I have been here before but it has been years so a revisit was in order. The staff was as friendly as ever. The food soon arrived and I was reminded that Tulsa is indeed a good city for barbecue. The ribs are not the most tender but certainly didn't disappoint in flavor and was just tender enough to be enjoyed. The barbecue beans were very well done the right level of spice to make them interesting but not over power your taste buds. The chopped brisket was smoky and moist. First Street Store Service: Our group of about 20 came in for a late lunch after visiting the Greenwood Rising Center. The person at the counter greeted us with a smile and explained there would be a short wait while tables were arranged. We did not have to wait long at all. We had only one server, and she was super efficient. Food: We are accustomed to paying much more in the OKC metro area for the menu items at Albert G's. Many in our group ordered chopped brisket sandwiches (with one side), and some ordered the three-meat dinners (two sides). Good ribs, great chopped brisket, nice sweet potato fries, and potato salad so good it was worth taking home. Great lunch for the price. Cleanliness: This was post-lunch rush, and all tables were clean, floors swept, and the place had a nice quiet vibe. 10/10 would recommend. I plan on visiting again when I come to Philbrook. Everyone in the group agreed this was a very good choice, considering there are many dining choices downtown. Tried Albert Gs for the first time today. I love BBQ and am somewhat of a stickler. I know it's a Tulsa staple but the brisket was super dry. Ribs were solid. We got 5 in the combo platter. The sides were good and portions were solid as well. They were out of burnt ends so I didn't get to try them. Not sure I'll go back, was hoping to like it but the brisket killed it for me. They half a toast 1/2 chicken with sides on Sat (I think) and fried catfish on Friday's. The catfish is the best I have had since moving to Tulsa from DFW. Very friendly and help staff with good seating in booths and table with very nice bar area with bar setting and individual tables and booth. I do wish they gave us more of the bbq sauce with our takeout, since I do tend to use a lot more than probably the average person. I also wish I'd remembered to ask for some of the spicier kind, though the regular is still flavorful. The pulled pork dinner came with two sides so I got fries and tabouli. I liked the seasoning on the fries. I pretty much always get tabouli here (and other places if I can) and it tasted more flavorful than I remembered, though it's always been good. It made me smile that they also give you two pieces of white bread - not toasted or seasoned or anything - just plain white bread. I love going to the smaller restaurants. Mom's n Pops places are IT for me. So when I'm in the mood for BBQ which is 99% of the time I look around for the smaller more quant and cozy places to try and so I tried this one and I wasn't disappointed at all. Food came out fast and hot. I even enjoyed watching them slice the brisket right in front of me. Watching the juices flow and soak up the cutting board with every slice, I already knew it was going to slide down my throat just right. LOL! Chicken was cooked to perfection. So here I am eating chopped brisket with nothing but a "sorry" and an offhand comment about it being a holiday so she expects people to act like assholes anyway. I got Chopped Brisket: Moist and seasoned well. (Husband ordered sliced and said it was too dry). Hot link: doesn't have that supermarket packaged taste to it, so that's a plus. Little spice to it. I like it a lot. Tulsa Ribs: Tender, smoky, but a bit on the dry side. You get 2 sides with a slightly toasted bread. For sides I got Sweet Potato fries: Seasoned well and plenty to share between 2 people. Baked beans: sweet with some sort of cinnamon spice to it. It had meat in there too. This was an awesome spot to visit. The barbecue sauce was good. The sides were solid. I would recommend the tabouli which seemed an odd choice at the time. The meat was pretty tasty. Though the service was a stand out, especially considering the layout and flow of the restaurant. They were super nice and very helpful. I wish I would have bought more meats, but it just gives me an excuse to go back. We went around seven, and I bet everything would have been even better earlier in the day. Considering a lot of the other barbecue restaurants will close earlier I think this is a solid evening choice if you want to avoid a chain restaurant. read more

I received a container of beans and pork which filled 1/3 and rest was slaw. not at all as described. pretty disappointing. the pie was not good either. Got the 3 meat platter. Ribs. I'll order again they didn't need any sauce and were quite tender. Brisket.. I'll order again same with the ribs. They could've kept that shredded brisket. It taste like they pulled it from the bottom of the grill. Rubbery and taste like leftover scraps. So I won't get that anymore. Banana pudding was good but they are very stingy with it. There was like 2 1/2 table spoons of it in a pint container. The potato salad is good but it has ALOT of sugar in it. Not a fan of sugary potato salad. Okra was good yet soggy. My mother wanted to take my fiancée and I here to celebrate Fathers Day as I was visiting her in Tulsa. Upon entering the young teenage hostess alerted us that they were out of brisket, pork and ribs. Being that We liked chicken, Turkey and bbq baloney ( well I like baloney ) we said that would be fine. So we ordered and waited... And waited... 30 minutes With a restaurant only a third full Before our waiter came back and told us that they were actually out of everything except hot links.
