The food was pretty good overall but I am not a fan of the Mac and cheese 3/10. It just taste like milk with a dash of cheese. The noodles were fine but it was very bland no salt or pepper . The brisket was juicy and tender with a good smoky flavor. I loved the tender ribs which were coated with bbq rub, no sauce needed. The cream corn and mac & cheese were excellent. The sandwiches were excellent. It's nice to have the condiment station with the pickles, carrots, jalapenos, salsa, lemons and limes. The sides were tasty; creamy macaroni and cheese, potato salad had mustard and mayonnaise, green beans had ham bits, creamed corn and cole slaw were all very good. The banana pudding was real good. Our family wanted to give Smokey Mo's a chance, yet we had a tough time finding any one meat or side we liked. While it did the job, it also left much to be desired. We tried the brisket, yet it was too soft and moist that it felt liked chopped meat. We thought we were accidentally given the jalapeno sausage, yet their regular is super peppery. Sausage is only meat my child will usually eat at a BBQ place, and it was "too hot." The staff was nice enough to let him try the turkey, yet the damage was done, and he only ate his Cheetos. I also can't handle super peppery food, so their sausage is off my list too. The pork belly is essentially burnt ends - super crispy while also super dry. As for sides, I'm good with the green beans. While not my favorite version of green beans, I finished the side. The cream corn has an odd flavor. I'm usually a fan, yet I only ate a few bites because the garnish and grated cheese was a strange combo in this side. The pinto beans and the potato salad were okay. If you're expecting bread, you'll need to head to the counter to grab a few pre-packed sandwich bags. Knowing if bread was available was confusing since the staff brought our food to the table. While the staff was nice and accommodating, we know Smokey Mo's won't become a regular spot for us and we don't plan to come back. I told a friend about my experience at the UTSA location, and they felt the same about the location near Alamo Ranch. read more

It was good, not great. I don't think they smoke their meat on premises, so that probably hurts the freshness and ambiance of it all. The meat was still very good - brisket not too fatty and the pork belly ends were well done. The sides were again, good not great, and the bacon cheddar potatoes were WAY too salty. visited 6010 Utsa Blvd... So glad this new location exists. Unfortunately there is NO drive thru at this location ! Very clean establishment with plenty of indoor dining space. Their staff is happy, attentive & knowledgeable very nice. Smokey Mo's pork ribs are to die for.. love em ! This was a very tasty order. We ended up getting a three meat plate with brisket, turkey, and sausage, with the bacon potatoes and mac and cheese, as well as a side of burnt ends. The burnt ends were our favorite, and the brisket was our fiancée's favorite. The mac & cheese was fine, a bit bland, and the bacon potatoes were not especially flavorful, although the topping on the potatoes was quite good. The meats were all very good, however. Next time, I frankly might just go with meat a la carte. They also unfortunately initially forgot the burnt ends; it's probably a good idea to check your order before you leave, just to be sure. I have never been to a BBQ place where I have been charged extra for ordering brisket. The meat didn't taste smoked. It was tender, but I was taught that you shouldn't have to put sauce on brisket. You have to here. It is a local chain, it was clean inside. read more

Another great place close to home. We've ordered the three meat platters and the Sloppy MO's chopped sandwich. All of the meats had the perfect smoke flavor. The chicken and jalapeño sausage were excellent. The brisket was dry and the slices were too thin. I noticed on the menu you can request thicker, fattier brisket. All of the sides tasted very good, but their real star is the cream corn--delicious! The service friendly and efficient and the restaurant is clean. I've eaten at few of the Smokey Mo's locations before and liked it so I was excited the one closer to my house opened up. I went in on Sunday morning and order $90 worth of BBQ to eat during the games. It was good but around 7pm I got real sick and then my wife at midnight. It gave us food poisoning! All I can say is think god none of my kids ate any. It really sucks because BBQ is favorite and now the thought makes me sick. I don't know if they just warmed up old brisket from the day before or what but I'm done with this place. read more
