Sweet potato casserole, cheesy potatoes (think loaded potatoes au gratin), mac & cheese, flavorful beans, potato salad... your biggest problem is choosing what to eat! The people here are incredibly kind and helpful. From suggestions and sage guidance, to throwing a joke here and there to make you feel like you're just here for food at a friend's place. We were lucky enough to meet the pit master on our first visit. The humility on this lady was the stuff that most people aspire to. Imagine being one of a handful of female pitmasters in Texas (a state known to excel in this cuisine) and not having an ego about you. The food is so good it brought me out of review hibernation. Literally everything was amazing! The service, the facility and obviously, the food! So much flavor .... So much love put into it. I love their smoked turkey and they definitely have the best sides, but my last visit was different. I am a huge fan of their fried catfish! It's made to order, so factor in a good 15 minute wait. I got the smaller portion which is one fillet with one side. My usual side choice is their sweet potato casserole, but I opted for the perfectly seasoned green beans this time. The 30 minute wait for the catfish was worth it. The fish was fresh and piping hot (they don't cook it until you order it. My boyfriend loved the sliced brisket plate. No surprise here, always fantastic. Be sure to arrive early if you have something specific in mind. Once they run out of something, that's it for the day! I appreciate that, as you know everything is always fresh. I also find it very mindful for cost, for themselves and the consumer. Had to visit Big Bib bbq once I found out they had 'Filthy fries' , I got the brisket for my protein. Starts off with a bed of crinkle fries, Mac n cheese then chopped brisket topped with regular and Carolina bbq sauces. It was so good and the price was around $11 & I couldn't stop eating them. Some of the BEST BBQ in San Antonio. The brisket, sausage, and turkey are mouth watering good. I love their stuffed baked potatoes. My husband loves their ribs. Those triTip was mouth watery tastety with pulled pork yummyness and fall off the bone short ribs definitely satisfied our hunger. Added with jalapeno sausage mmm mmm good. This is an underrated BBQ spot in San Antonio! They are pretty busy. During lunch or dinner rushes, there would be a line! The lines are not too bad, and they do moved fast. I've been here twice and the first time there was a line, but the 2nd -- it was more towards closing time so they didn't have as much and there wasn't a line. This place is a hole in the wall, and provides such a cozy and homey vibe. I would recommend dining in instead of picking it up, because they have multiple types of BBQ sauces that you can try out. We ordered brisket and sweet potato casserole. The food was ok, but the customer service was a hot mess. I asked them for marbled brisket and the lady told me that it however they cut it, is what I would get. They are so rude and not very welcoming. I was told they were out of ribs out of turkey out of chicken, but then when other people walked in shortly after me. They were told how long the wait would be for those items. The customer service is definitely not consistent. One of the ladies was even getting on to a co worker for saying they he had chicken in the case again. It's off putting. Located in a sort of seedy side of town behind a mechanic shop. Apparently used to be behind a car wash. Impression not that good initially but very friendly staff warmed me up. Also quite a steady stream of customers says a lot. Got brisket sandwhich and potatoe salad. Very good but about a quarter was inedible burnt ends and so I felt jipped! Post from my Dad: We went for an after church meal and it was fantastic! Such a warm welcome from eating at a typical chain restaurant. The staff was very professional in their greeting and helping us navigate the menu. They came to the table to check on us too. I could not eat all my plate. The ribs and rib tips fell off the bones. In fact, it seemed to melt in my mouth. The collard greens were just like grandma's. Sadly, my daughter only shared a finger tip of her catfish. Wow, this place is excellent!! We needed last-minute catering for a funeral and Big Bib came through! Shelby was helpful and friendly, and made our order come together perfectly. Normally I don't care for brisket because it's often dry/tough; Big Bib had the best brisket I've ever had! The pulled pork is also amazing. A+ for the sweet potato casserole. Went on a Friday evening with my 83 year old mother about 4:30. Parking lot was empty, but could see there were people inside. Was treated by friendly cashier when we walked in. They were patient and will to explain the menu. They were already out of bbq ribs mush to my Mom's disappointment, but she ordered the beef tips and I got the brisket. We both got the potato casserole and the sweet potato casserole as our sides. Mom didn't care for her beef tips so I traded her by brisket. She loved it and the sweet potato casserole (I ended up trading her my sweet potato casserole for her regular potato casserole,). When we got our plates I thought for sure we would have leftovers, but we all but licked our plates clean! The food was delicious. We tried the BBQ rib sauce and the sweet sauce and both were good. There is also a spicy sauce, but we are wimpy so no go on that, lol. By the time we were ready to leave the place was packed and people were coming in for to go orders (by that time they just had the pulled pork, brisket and I think chicken left). Big Bib had delicious rib tips and chicken! My husband had a chicken plate with green beans and pinto beans. I had the rib tips and potato salad, and green beans. Everyone's a winner when eating there! It was crowded. The restaurant is clean and neat. It's loud because there's a TV and music playing, but that adds to the down-home feeling you get when you walk through the door. The only bad news was that I couldn't call it in because the items I called for may not be there. It's on a first come, first serve basis, so they don't take call-in orders on certain days. read more
