I wanted to try out some Texas BBQ while I was visiting some family as a Californian. It's the one thing I wanted to try before heading back so I ordered quite a few things: the rib plate with mac and cheese and baked beans, a jalapeno pepper sausage, a "chosen" sandwich (which I believe was rib meat + sausage), and a side of potato salad. I really enjoyed the ribs and the sausage. Both were very smoky and fresh (despite coming in closer to closing time) and the ribs had a hint of sweetness. I think that's the Memphis style BBQ poking through. I thought the sides were just okay. The baked beans were a little too sweet for my taste, the mac and cheese wasn't cheesy enough, and the potato salad was fine. I'm giving this place four stars because what I came here, the meats, were really well seasoned and the staff was very friendly. They even gave my cousin an additional side for free. One final thing, it's a little unassuming as it lives right next to a gas station but the inside is still a decent size with seating. read more

This business just opened this week. My wife and I decided to try it for dinner. I had the chicken and sausage plate with macaroni and cheese and potato salad. She had a sliced brisket sandwich. The food was all very good. They use huge chicken pieces.The servings were very large for everything. The people running the restaurant were very friendly. They wore T-shirts with the logo on the front that said on the back that it was Memphis style. This location has been several different kinds of restaurant over the years. Porky J's has totally redone the interior. It is really nice and comfortable. I am happy that we now have a really close barbecue place next to us. I'll be back! read more

Food was great, but the Brisket had way too much fat and not enough flavor. Baked beans were bombb. Pulled pork was firee, mac n cheese was good maybe a little more seasoning would have made them better but still yummy. My friend got the catfish she was ok with it. Potato salad was good too. Atmosphere was great, very homey. Everyone was super nice and attentive, will definitely be coming back to try those ribs and oxtail :) read more

This is a slept on BBQ joint. From the amazing customer service, jazz music playing in the background to the amazing food. I had the oxtails and yes they were as advertised, the meat fell off the bone. The brisket was moist and flavorful with an amazing sauce, you could taste the flavors of Memphis. Wanted a lil BBQ and on Uber Eats they had a buy one get free on the Pulled Pork Sandwiches. First off the sandwiches were as big as my head... (in this case a good thing) LOL , secondly the amount of meat on these things was almost criminal, but we loved it ! for sides I got the mac and cheese and fries. The mac and cheese I knew automatically , THIS IS A BLACK OWNED BUSINESS .. Very good, although there was a slight grainy texture to it, it was still good, creamy and very tasty. I will definitely be back, and IF I had one criticism...... add a lil more coleslaw and just a lil less meat. TO ME and ME only ..lol a pulled pork sandwich is meant to show the beauty of the two married together on a bun.... which BTW the BUN IS AWESOME! We recently visited the new Helotes location and really wanted to love it. The service was great so that was definitely a positive start. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite hit the mark for us. The brisket and pulled pork sandwiches were overwhelmingly sweet! Between the Hawaiian bun and the BBQ sauce mixed into the meat, the sweetness was just too much and made them difficult to enjoy. The ribs were tender and cooked well, but they also leaned very heavily on the sweet side. The fries were also extremely over-seasoned. So much so that no one in our group could eat them. That said, the meat itself was nicely prepared and tender. There's definitely potential here, which is why I'm sharing this feedback. I'm hoping it may have just been a heavy hand with the sugar or molasses, and that the bbq sauce recipe might be adjusted. We work in the area and happy to have new restaurants pop up as we get tired of the same ol thing for lunch. We did not try any other sides or meals. read more

Not sure when y'all opened but a lot of kinks need to be worked out. Went to the window to order food brisket sandwich and mac n cheese( its my test) and no receipt, no number just stare at me so I go sit and wait....................................................................................45mins later the guy at the window ask me what I ordered and I let him know and they pack up a bag I grab the bag look and let the lady know im missing my Mac n cheese, took almost 10 mins to get it. and I go outside to eat and its cold, not hot, not warm, like cold its been sitting for 45 mins cold. TBH if the food was hot it probably would've tasted ok, if I didn't wait 45 mins it would've tasted better. especially when I see employees chopping it up on the phone and then their friends come in order food and get food in less than 5 mins read more

Me and my family had put an order to-go and we had expected a little more ribs for the food to eat and we were given three ribs for a pound. When called and asked about why we only had three they said if we wanted more ribs we should have asked for the shorter side of the ribs. Not satisfied that the service was like that. Wanted to try this place as I would love to help support a new business. However, went in the first time and stood there for at least 5 minutes trying to get attention of front counter person, who was chatting with kitchen staff. Finally touched him on the shoulder and asked for a menu. He handed me one and went right back o his chat. Never offered to help me. I got upset and left. Brisket was not tender at all and lukewarm at best. brisket was very thinly sliced and you could taste the heavily used chili powder in the sauce. beans too sugary. potato salad was good though. plate too expensive for the brisket. will not go back will go to HEB for their brisket which is always tender... read more
